5 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2007-01-23

Here is a great collection of songs from a excellent hard rocking band.
This is a collection of their hits and alot more.
Starts off with Pictures of Matchstick men right up to the more modern version of Status Quo.
Those earlier tunes here were excellent, and they realy had a style and sound of their own.
You can hear the changes musicly they went through with this compillation of songs.

5 out of 5 stars The ghost from the coast says.......2006-03-07

It's called the ultimate collection for a reason. The song selection is near perfect. The 32 bit mastering is simply amazing and has to be heard and the bonus disc is a true bonus.

5 out of 5 stars The Quo Should Have Made It Here.......2006-03-09

With ON THE LEVEL, Status Quo's fourth great CD in a row, it becomes even more shocking that these guys couldn't crack the U.S. market. It's hard to see why, especially since songs such as "Down, Down" and "Nightride" have a sound that would have been huge in this country if there hadn't been a glut of such bands here. The band members' belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since last spring on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

5 out of 5 stars The Quo--Great 70's CD.......2005-05-15

Why these guys never made it big in the U.S., I'll never know...This album is proof positive that the Quo can rock as hard as anybody you care to name. Down Down, Little Lady, and their blistering cover of Chuck Berry's Bye Bye Johnny will melt your speakers!! Nice sonic upgrade from what I am sure were not the greatest tapes to begin with...This is the last of the "raw power" Quo discs; after a muddy live album they brought in outside producers and tried to smooth off the edges in a bid to be accepted into (U.S.?) more mainstream markets...I highly recommend this CD as well as Blue For You, Hello, Quo, and Piledriver if you want more of this...For a more detailed account of this group, see my blog at ulice.blogspot.com.....

5 out of 5 stars Better than it used to be.......2006-11-17

I am a huge Status Quo fan, I barely remember purchasing the "LP" back in the 70's. The remastering of this album is great & I love this cd! If you are a Quo fan or just enjoy wall good rock-n-roll, this is a must buy - Claudie, Caroline, Reason for Living, Forty-Five Hundred Times never sounded so good. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Status Quo Keeps Delivering.......2006-03-09

With HELLO, Status Quo delivers another great album of hard-driving blues-boogie that's equally good for dancing to or exercising to. Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt are great on guitars and vocals, singing rather than screaming, and while Rossi can't match Paul Rodgers, Derek St. Holmes, early Sammy Hagar, or Dave Peverett for soul, at least he's more pleasant to listen to than a guy like say, Kevin Dubrow, and has a wonderful sense of how to properly phrase a lyric. The band continues on the strong path begun with PILEDRIVER, proving that it's doubly unfair that the Quo never made it big over here. The band members' belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since last spring on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

3 out of 5 stars A Definite Upgrade On Previous Releases.......2005-02-13

Can not fault the music, definite 5 stars. But, the overall sound of this "remaster"? The sound is very "treble heavy" & "harsh" sounding. I actually had to turn the treble EQ on my car stereo into the "negative" range. However, it may be the master tapes who are at fault here, so I'm not really laying blame. The remainder of the remastering is flawless. The guitars & vocals ring true with Lancaster's bass thumping away clearer than ever. If you are reading this, you are no doubt a Status Quo fan debating on whether to drop some extra cash on this "remaster". My advice? You gotta have it, so get it; there is a big here improvement over the original import cd release. If you can wait awhile, I'm sure zShops will even see some at a much lower cost in a few months.
New update...turns out the master tapes left much to be desired on the high end. Still a huge improvement and upgrade over the older releases. (I would actually upgrade my review to 4 stars, but the system won't allow it.) Plus you can find this on zShops now for a real good price. So what are you waiting for!

5 out of 5 stars Yet Another Great CD from Status Quo.......2007-04-28

ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD is yet another great CD by Status Quo. Some people say that their titanic period ended with the 1976 live album, but that's not true. This album includes many great rockers, including an incredible cover of the John Fogerty-penned title track. The fact that bandleaders Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt believe that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 for drug-smuggling was falsely convicted makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

5 out of 5 stars Bravo Mr. Turan !!!!.......2005-04-01

While the music contained on this album might not be some of Quo's best, my review is mainly for the remastering and sonic quality. The only people on the planet who will ever read this, are you, the Status Quo fan. You already know all about the music. This review goes out to "you all", the Status Quo "fanatics", who are contemplating dropping some cash on this purchase. Do it!! Tim Turan has done a fabulous job with all these remasters and "RAOTW" might be the crowning jewel of the lot. Like I mentioned earlier, musically "RAOTW" may be one of the "frantic fours" lesser moments; and the sound quality on past releases (even the vinyl) did drag the album down a bit. The remastering job here does just the opposite, it actually makes the album better. I can write about brightness, sonic nuances, warmth & tone until I'm blue in the face and still just be scratching the surface.
So enough already, just add this to cart now. You might as well buy all the Status Quo remasters now and save on shipping. You're eventually going to buy them all anyway, so now's as good as time as any!

5 out of 5 stars Status Quo's First Great Album.......2006-03-09

PILEDRIVER was Status Quo's first great album. Freed from a creatively stifling recording contract with Pye, the Quo gave up pop for a hard-driving blues-boogie sound that really rocked as few others could. This album proved that the band could have hit singles without really trying to, as "Paper Plane" went Top 5 in the UK. The band members' belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since last spring on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

5 out of 5 stars Eminem's twins return.......2006-08-13

Dead Celebrity Status is the new band of Yaz and Bobbie, a canadian duo who did time in a rap-metal band called Project Wyze a few years back. Sort of picking up where their old band left off, "blood Music" is more hip hop flavored then their previous efforts, although i guess yo could call it "heavy hip hop"
Lyrically, the band presents songs about the state of the world, music scene, government and relationship problems. check em out, ya wont be dissapointed.

Great music, flows and everything. So yesterday I went to the Vans Warped Tour with a friend of mine I wanted to see a few bands, but in general most of the bands at the Warped Tour are not that good. I found some good music even though I was not really looking, for an example Dead Celebrity Status. I came across them without knowing who they were and what they were all about. My friend wanted to go see Rise Against who was performing like 15 or so feet away with a huge group of people and I went to see Dead Celebrity Status and let me tell you F**** Rise Against and all those pu*y sh** this music right here has an amazing vibe and it was a great performance with Yassen and Bobby the two of them had some of the greatest flows and some sick rhymes that I have heard in quite awhile. To think I have never heard of them, but they did appear on XXX: State of the Union soundtrack, which people say is a great soundtrack.

Now for the album I just got it yesterday after there set at the Vans Warped Tour and on this record they shine and if I had to choose a favorite song well that is impossible because this is too hard to choose one, and if all read this much love keep it all and stay true. I guarantee sometime soon we will all be hearing of Dead Celebrity Status just like all those other names like 50 Cent (who by the way compared to Dead Celebrity Status has nothing.) Oh yeah Yassen and Bobby the two of you are so kind, thank you for the autographs and I respect you two dearly and when you come back to LA I will be there in the front listening and everything.

NOW WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR GO AND BUY THIS CD, TRUST ME YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

5 out of 5 stars Best Quo Album By Far.......2007-07-02

Never has Quo rocked as hard or as good as on Quo...to me this is the ultimate Status Quo ablum...it even features a killer acoustic build up number called "Lonely Man" which I think is one of their best and most melodic sounding songs they've ever written...it's nothing like their usual boogie style...wish they did more tunes of this calibre...that tune added to the classic one two punch of Backwater & Just Take Me that get's the album of to a high octain start and the hard rockin' Drifting Away and the heavy boogie that is Don't Think It Matters make this a classic album IMO...if I were to recommend any Quo album to a friend I'd tell them to start with this one.

5 out of 5 stars possumsmcbikeritems.......2007-01-10

5 Stars, Quo is the best, Great Cd hard to find in Australia.

5 out of 5 stars A Darker, Heavier Status Quo.......2006-03-12

QUO is unique among albums by Status Quo in that it's much darker and heavier than their other 70s albums. This album, like the others features plenty of rockin' good times, but there's a sense of foreboding in nearly every track. The album's overall tone seems to carry a message that even if you're self-indulgent, you might still make it alright, but don't bet on it. It's this cautionary feel that inspires me to look at pictures of TV and movie hotties as a deterrent to self-indulgent behavior. The band members' belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since last spring on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

5 out of 5 stars Buy This NOW!! & Stay Away From The 2 On 1 Release..........2005-03-12

Yes, there is a God! After buying the dreadfully sounding "Quo/Blue For You" 2 on 1 import release, my prayers have been answered for the definitive version of this album!
I can finally crank "Slow Train" and "Back Water" in my car without worrying about blowing my tweeters due the the distortion. The high end frequencies on these classic Quo albums can run on the "bright" or even "harsh" side, but the person remastering these album did an awesome job of smoothing off the high end frequencies. This album is one of those no doubt, no brainer, add to cart ASAP purchases. Not only one of Status Quo's best albums, but one of the best rock albums ever.

5 out of 5 stars In reply to "Take his Guitar Away".......2004-03-17

I believe that Junior is one of the greatest living blues guitar players, and we are all very fortunate to have someone like this still living so that we can go and see him play and learn from a true master. He is a truly authentic player and draws from broader influences than many so called blues players on the scene. He is a master of West Coast blues in the vein of Pee Wee Crayton and T-Bone. This album is a wonderful documentation of a remarkable musician, do not hesitate to purchase this or any other Junior Watson album.

2 out of 5 stars Dear God, take away his guitar.......2003-10-28

I loved his music, and I loved his singing. Lots of soul. But Dear God... Take away his Guitar. Case in point, On calls everybody sweetheart but me, it's is the worst Guitar work I have ever heard, If it was live I would go up to the stage and grab his guitar and say "Give me that, You are going to hurt yourself." Buy it if for nothing else to laugh and show your friends what Bad Blues is all about.

3 out of 5 stars Mainly For Watson Fans!.......2003-04-02

Junior Watson generally performs jump style blues and is a rather exceptional guitarist. That being said, this CD is more for Junior's die hard fans. Only two Watson originals as Junior chooses to cover some rather obscure blues pieces from the likes of Johnny Otis, Bumlebee Slim, Woo Woo More, Amos Milburn and Pee Wee Crayton as well as the out of place, Latin flavored, "Two Tacos" written by Felix and His Hot Peppers. Barron Shul deserves recognition for his standout sax playing throughout the CD. A bright spot in an otherwise unexceptional recording. Not one of the years top contenders but sure to satisfy his fans nonetheless.

5 out of 5 stars Junior Solo Again-Really Long Overdue.......2003-03-12

Long known among the blues guitar community as one of the most unique and gifted talents of his generation, Junior Watson has made his fans' long wait for his second solo release well worth it with the release of "If I Had a Genie." While not entirely the traditional and jump blues his fans have come to expect, this release is Junior's deepest expression of the diverse influences he absorbed growing up in '60s southern California. Along with the expected tips of his hat to the likes of Lazy Lester, Johnny Otis (the rhumba inspired title cut), Mercury records artist Woo Woo Moore and the inimitable Pee Wee Crayton, Junior serves up tex-mex (Two Tacos), second line New Orleans gumbo ala Snooks Eaglin and a couple of truly memorable swing hooks cooked up with sax man Barron Shul that you'll be humming for days. Sadly, Junior remains one of the larger blue's community's most underappreciated talents, but one hopes his recent signing with the people behind Susan Tedeschi and Johnny Lang will finally bring him the wider recognition he so richly deserves. He's been criss-crossing the country for nearly 3 years now; find out when he'll be in your town.

4 out of 5 stars A solid effort for Junior is better than most........2003-01-17

Any new Junior Watson disc is a treat. It has been a long time since "Long Overdue", and I was excited to hear this one.

This album is not as swing oriented as his first disc. It has some swing elements, but it has more of a traditional blues feel than outright west coast swing.

His guitar playing is always quirky and inspired- this disc is no exception. All of the tracks were cut live with no overdubs, so it has a real live feel to it. His guitar sound is not as big as it used to be, I think due mostly to the fact that he has been using the Les Paul more than the Harmony hollowbody.

Junior's singing on this disc is a real treat. He is normally the guitar player for someone else, but with the emotion and vibe that he puts into this, I don't think he should stay on the sidelines anymore.

If you already are here, you probably like Junior and will buy this disc anyway. If you are not familiar with him, but you enjoy real blues (no rock n' roll added), do yourself a favor and buy this. He is one of the most important blues guitar stylists of the past 20 years.

5 out of 5 stars reviewing an album, renewing a spirit.......2006-07-18

my problem is that i often set my expectations so high (for a purchase, an event, a meal) that, while the actual experience may be very good, it will seldom be as good as the expectation i have set for it. aware of this dynamic, i realized that i may have been setting myself up for another reality that fell short of the anticipation. but that didn't happen with Maynard's "Live at the Great American Music Hall Part II". it just didn't happen. hearing "hey jude" after not hearing it for 20 years (on MF Horn II) was so very sweet. a fresh version of "macarthur park" is always welcome. and "country road" was just as sweet -- even better -- than i recall it from his concerts in the 70s. true, i'm hard core on maynard. but this is 5-star.

4 out of 5 stars An Interesting Live CD.......2002-08-24

I was first introduced to the music of Maynard Ferguson about the time this concert was recorded. I was able to attend concerts of his thoughout the 70's and got to witness the evolution of his music. This CD is a must have for MF fans for a couple of reasons. It is the first live CD I have ever heard from anyone that actually captures the true essense of the concert. Not only are we treated to the music but it includes Maynard's intro of each song. This is great because you learn who the soloists are in each piece. It also provides a look into MF just before his popularity exploded in 1975 with the release of Chameleon. If there is a downside to this it's the sound quality. The brass really overcomes the saxes on a couple of numbers. In other words the balance isn't quite right but other than that this is a great addition to your collection. Recorded in 1973, and between the releases of MF Horns 2 & 3, this concert shows touches of older and newer MF. Since Amazon doesn't list the songs here I will with brief comments.

1)MacArthur Park starts off the CD as the end of his first set of the night. As always, MacArthur Park is great, and we get to experience a great solo from drummer Randy Jones. In comparing this to the Live at Jimmy's version (recorded about a year later) I would say Jimmy's is a wee bit better, but not by much.

2 & 3)Blue Birdland. If you ever attended a MF concert you've heard this. It's the intro and ending piece of his sets. Why they included them here is beyond me but each is barely a minute long so no sweat.

4)Take the A train. A piece made famous by Duke Ellington. A solid but short number (listed at 3:37 the music is actually less that 3:00 and includeds MF's intro)

5)All Right, AllRight. Written by keyboardist Pete Jackson it features Jackson, Tony Bucanan on tenor sax, Eddie Byrne on trombone, and Joel DiBartolo on bass. A typical 20 minute MF selection, the solos are expanded and Maynard just screams. Very enjoyable.

6)County Road. The famous James Taylor song. MF originally recorded this about 1971 and was straight forward with it then. This version lasts about 9 minutes and features a beautiful into by Jackson on electric piano. It then moves slowly into the main theme and continues to build until the whole band is involved.

7)Hey Jude. The last piece included here. Although I didn't particularily care for the studio version of this track this live version is wonderful. Only eight minutes long yet features some classic Maynard screaming that must have made the whole hall shake.

There you have it. About 60 minutes of great MF music. Do not hesitate to grab this, it may not be around for long.

4 out of 5 stars As close as we current have to MF 4 & 5 on CD.......2002-03-31

Alright, Columbia, why not release the better version of this: MF Horn 4 & 5; Live At Jimmy's on CD???

    Huh?

    Huh?

Until then, if you're a 70's Maynard Fan, get this!

    4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2000-08-22

I bought this cd because I am a big Maynard fan, and I was amazed at the songs he can still dish out at his age. He is a great player and I recomend buying this, the solos are absolutely amazing.
