A great evening of worship. Delirious? are an amazingly talented Christian band who are totally authentic in their worship of God.The evening rocked.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing offering.......2007-02-04

"Now is the time", the 2006 delirious? live concert at Willow Creek is a phenomenal value full CD and DVD pack - for the price of a budget CD. But there is nothing budget about this production - from the artwork, packaging, to the filming and most important the performance, delirious? creativity and excellence is stamped all over it. Congratulations to the band and production team!

What an amazing offering - and this band knows the spiritual understanding of 'offering'. This is contemporary stadium pop-rock at its best - irrespective of labels - Christian or secular market. Oftened likened to U2, delirious? are an experienced, edgy, professional outfit who play with exuberance and joy. They are the British Christian rock supergroup of the last 15 years although it would be a label they'd distance themselves from.

Having seen them twice at the New Zealand Parachute festival, I believe this captures them at the peak of their powers. They don't hold back as they journey through 15 classic tracks that encourage as much crowd participation as possible.

I loved the different filming angles that captures the light show and faces of performers and audience. With this DVD, the concert experience is more important than focusing on whether the drummer is using a flams or rim shots, or what foot pedal the guitarist is using. That's not to say that the camera doesn't focus on the appropriate musician - it just that overall the filming has creative feel.

Martin Smith still has as youthful, and infectious stage presence as what he did ten years ago. He connects with the audience with friendly eye contact, impish smile and gestures. He amazes me each time I see him again. He can be sincere and gentle and the next minute cajoling the crowd to sing out an anthem roar. He's particularly strong in the title track, 'Now is the time' and 'Every little thing' as is Stu G, who seems to grow and display stronger guitar sounds with each new album. Stu G has a wonderful array of tones and solos that are more of the Edge guitar school rather than Satriani shred. I've never heard him play with such abandon as what he plays on this album.

Yes, this is a fun concert to watch but its more than this as I kept being drawn into their hopeful, uncompromising message. 'Our God reigns' displays this - challenging, uplifting rock.

Certainly this is the time that they shine for their King.

"David Lee who?" is the question posed by this 2 Disc compendium of six years of Sammy Hagar-era performances. "Won't Get Fooled Again" is too obvious and tired a tune to be more than a novelty; better bets are firey renditions of "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" and "Jump" (highlighted by Hagar's Michael Jackson impersonation). --Jeff Bateman

5 out of 5 stars Van Halen Live, Gotta Love it.......2007-06-05

Van Halen's Live: Right Here Right Now's Album has 24 whole tracks for your listening pleasure. The roaring fans boosts up your momentum making you fell as if you are actually there (if you play it loud enough) These guys were great live! All of their all time favorites and then some are on this CD. The songs you know and love are all in this great album. If your're into rock and roll and don't have this, you need it!

5 out of 5 stars Good But still.......2006-04-29

I really like this album, But maybe it was a little bit ofensive including almost the whole F.U.C.K album. I am not saying that I don?t like it, because I think it is the best Van Hagar album. However, Van Halen has more to perform alive. I think that more songs from the Roth's period would have been cool! Rock N Roll Forevaa!

4 out of 5 stars Albums (not boots, videos) from 86 and 98 tours would be better.......2006-04-06

This is the only one VH live album. It is mostly set list from F.U.C.K. album. It is overall very good but...
1 Mike bass solo is proof of his poor skills
2 Alex drum solo is way too long - who likes drum solos(not talking about drummers:))
3 Cover of the Who is maybe good idea, but why "Won't get fooled...", "can't explain" would be better choice.
Highlights: Poundcake, Judgement day(you can see Eddie soloing:)), Spanked, Man on Mission, Right Now, 316(of course) - it's in fact Eddie's long solo with cathedral, eruption and other licks. But I think guitar solofrom "Live without a net" was even better.
So, it's very good recording, but after watching some videos from diferent VH gigs I think that band was in better shape in 1986 when recording "Live without a net" video. Not to mention VH3 tour.

3 out of 5 stars Recommended for Van Hagar fans.......2006-01-25

In 1993, at the height of grunge and alternative rock, Van Halen released yet another multi-platinum CD with their first ever live album "Live: Right Here, Right Now." Compiled from various shows between 1988 and 1993, "Live: Right Here, Right Now," focuses mainly on the Sammy Hagar era of the band and Van Hagar's first three albums "5150," (1986) "OU812," (1988) and most notably "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" (1991). Hagar's renditions of a couple Roth-era songs, a WHO cover, a few Sammy Hagar songs, and a few instrumentals round-out the album.

"Live: Right Here, Right Now" has a lot going for it. Many of these live renditions sound fuller than the studio versions, especially songs from "5150" and "OU812." Hagar's monologues, although at times long-winded, are generally interesting, especially his speech about living in the moment in the middle of "Panama." The instrumentals are more hit-or-miss. And there are A LOT of instrumentals; a drum solo, a guitar solo, and a bass solo. If you're into that sort of thing you will be well pleased with this release. But if you don't care for long instrumentals and solos, you may find them tedious. A cover of the WHO's "Won't get fooled again," sounds good, an obvious choice it may be.

The biggest drawback of this release is that it focuses exclusively on the Sammy Hagar-era of the band. It would have been far more desirable to have two CDs, the first covering '78-84 shows, (with Roth) and the second covering the Hagar era. But because the Van Halen brothers have always tried to downplay the Roth years and make Van Hagar out to be the definitive Van Halen (see "The Best of Both Worlds") we get a double-album of the Red Rocker without any Diamond Dave. When the band plays Roth-era material, it sounds good, until the vocals come in. As much as I like Sammy, he never could pull-off singing the Dave songs. While Hagar doesn't butcher the Roth songs, they just sound goofy, i.e. "got my ass against the record machine"(Hagar's replacement, Gary Cherone, did a terrific job singing all three eras on Van Halen's 1998 World Tour). Another problem with "Live: Right Here, Right Now" is that there are too many songs from "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge." Even if this had to be a Hagar-only live album, more songs from "5150" and "OU812" should have been included.

While "Live: Right Here, Right Now" isn't exactly KISS "ALIVE," (1975) it's still a pretty good album. While casual fans are advised to stay away, VH fans, especially fans of Van Hagar will enjoy this release. Hopefully someday an official Roth-era live VH album will see the light of day.

3 out of 5 stars Well(3.25 stars)...............2005-11-20

Van Halen's one and only live album,"Live:Right Here,Right Now" is pretty good, but it is what some people will often refer to as "a mixed bag".

As mentioned above, this is one of the best sounding live albums out there, and even though the tracklisting could have been better, this is still decent. It is a collection of Van Halen songs recorded live in about a four or five year time span from when Sammy Hagar was the lead singer of VH,and here, you hear Van Halen perfroming nine out of the eleven songs from Knowledge,as well as four songs from the Roth era of Van Halen("Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love","Panama",and half of both "You Really Got Me" and "Eruption"),two of Sammy Hagar's solo songs("There's Only One Way to Rock" and "Give to Live"),four songs from their "5150" album("Dreams","Love Walks In","Why Can't This Be Love?",and "Best of Both Worlds"),three songs from the Van Halen(Hagar era)album "OU812"("When It's Love","Finish What Ya Started",and half of "Cabo Wabo"),along with a pretty good cover version of The Who classic "Won't Get Fooled Again". Like another reviewer already mentioned, the sound and quality of this live album is so good that it is like a party on a CD,and Michael Anthony's bass solo,Alex Van Halen's drum solo, and Eddie Van Halen's guitar solo(which starts off as the instrumental "316" leading into "Eruption")are all really good and solid, but the problem is the tracklisting. It isn't incredibly bad,but it is missing songs like "I Can't Drive 55"(I know that that is one of Sammy Hagar's solo songs, but if Sammy and everyone else in VH were going to play some of Sammy's solo material live, what was wrong with the idea of including a live performance of Sammy's most popular and most famous solo song on here????!!!!),there should have been a couple of more songs from the Roth era here(probably both "Dance The Night Away" and "Unchained"),and I think including live performances of "Black and Blue" and "Mine All Mine" from "0U812" would have been really cool also and would have helped this live album be better than it turned out(I don't mind the large amount of songs from For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge being here, with the exception of "Man On A Mission"). But everything else here is really good, while this is a fun live album to listen to--Sammy,Eddie,Alex,and Mike all do a great job at contributing to that. The booklet accompanying this live album, which has pictures of Van Halen from their tour on which this live record was recorded,is really cool and is a good supplement to this CD.

Bottom Line:buy this live album ONLY if you are a die hard Van Halen fan, like both the Roth and Hagar eras of Van Halen, and don't mind the tracklisting here.

5 out of 5 stars An uplifting experience.......2006-12-05

If one takes into account the time at which this recording was made, and the surrounding events affecting his life, one can truly appreciate the significance of this album. Experiencing oppression not only from the U.S. but later the Canadian government to travel abroad, Robeson was impeded, but not prevented from singing in the name of peace, human rights, and the rights of the common worker. Victory was at hand when on May, 9 1958, the date of this recording, Paul Robeson announced that his passport battle had been won. This is the recording of a triumphant gentleman, a loving, ecstatic audience, and very importantly, a talented and very attuned pianist (Alan Booth). With this in mind one can more greatly appreciate how special this concert was. The magic of this recording trancends Robeson's impeccable singing. It is the concert as a whole that makes it so spectacular. Listen to 'Joe Hill', think of Robeson's battle, and hear why it is so powerful. Or listen to 'O No John', Alan Booth pounding the keys on the last notes, and the audience's response. Every person in Carnegie Hall was riveted. Well worth the price, and an uplifting experience.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best, and latest, of the Robeson recordings..........2006-10-17

This concert came along in 1958, when Paul's passport was restored and he was allowed to travel and make a living again, after several years of being on the Communist blacklist. His joy at performing once more for his traditional audience comes through in every track. That same year, he did a concert at his brother's church in Harlem, and when Columbia Records issued that one, it had another winner. Not long after those shows, Paul went overseas for five years, suffering a health crisis that brought him back to America in 1963, broken down and unable to perform consistently. He spent his last decade or so of life on the sidelines, living quietly with his sister in Philadelphia. This concert, then, along with the one at Mother Zion Church, is one of the final triumphs of one of the most interesting American lives. We know now that Paul's stubborn support of the Soviet Union in the Stalin era was a tragic flaw in his character, but he had magnificent gifts of voice and of acting presence, and had he come to the attention of audiences in 1957 instead of 1927, he would likely have earned millions as a singer and actor, and his political and social radical activism would have been a much smaller impediment to his career. If you already own some Robeson recordings, add this one because it represents him at the beginning of what was then "old age." If you own none, this concluding album is actually a fine starting point, because his earlier work suffers a bit from the primitive recording technology of the '30's and '40's.

4 out of 5 stars Paul Robeson Live.......2006-07-11

Of course his baritone is fabulous. His rendition of Joe Hill is unforgettable - this was a song he sang for the builders' labourers on the site of the Sydney Opera House in around 1969 -also Old Man River, which he made his own. He should have sung this in the film of the musical Showboat but he was passed over for an inferior voice by the producers because he was a member of the Communist Party. A pity. He also sings some gospel on this CD, I'm not mad about religious songs but if you like them then you'll love this.

2 out of 5 stars New version available in UK.......2006-02-18

This version is now redundant as Vanguard has released a version in 2005 with the original album cover for the first time and with new sleeve notes. The sound is also better. I purchased it from amazon.co.uk.

It was alright. The mixing is a little off.The sound quality isn't what it could've been,. I wish they would've miked the audience better. I missed songs like "Here I Am" and "Even the Nights Are Better". It just seems kind of "low budget". But Russell Hitchcock is still my hero. He can do no wrong.Keep stirring the heart guys. God Bless Y'all

5 out of 5 stars Great Cross between Old and New Air Supply - Live!.......2004-06-16

The best way to sum up Air Supply's "Greatest Hits Live: Now and Forever" is that this is not your regular live album. This album brings 10 of the best Air Supply songs performed live with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. There are two studio songs: There is a new song called "The Way I Feel" and a remake of an earlier Air Supply classic "Now and Forever". The live songs are really the pieces that are going to fuel this album's strength. The live pieces were recorded in Taipei, Taiwan in 1995. Air Supply's days as a hit-making machine had long passed for about 12 years now. By 1995, the band still had a solid following (especially outside the U.S.), so by finally releasing a live album almost 20 years into their careers they had nothing to lose. This effort would help continue to keep the existing fan base happy, help some of the old fan base rediscover Air Supply, and harvest some new Air Supply fans.

Air Supply's performance on this collection is augmented a couple of ways. They are accompanied by some outstanding studio musicians - most noteably a pianist named Guy Allison who is going to help compliment the outstanding keyboards already in place by Graham Russell. Allison has played a role in 90s Air Supply as a songwriter too - co-writing the songs "Always" and "Someone". You'll hear the power of the piano and keyboards many of the big name classics that are included on the album. The interesting thing is that the Orchestra doesn't have as prominent role as on other albums by artists who have done live albums with one. The Orchestra's role is perfect making this very much an Air Supply album with a key focus on the talents of the stars - Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock. It will be the combination of Graham Russell and Guy Allison's keyboard and pianos that really are going to steal the show when it comes to the instrumentation - especially on tracks like "Making Love Out of Nothing at All", "All Out of Love", "Lost in Love", "Sweet Dreams"

The trademark Air Supply vocals are on this album. Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock have some tremendous dual harmonies on the songs "Lost in Love", "Sweet Dreams", and on the classic remake of "Unchained Melody". What I like about their version of "Unchained Melody" is how they use the classic Air Supply crescendo to build up the song at the end, nobody does this better than Air Supply. There is a lot of true emotion on this CD, but none comes to life better than in "The One That You Love", when Russell Hitchock shows an elated emotion with a slight chuckle of joy when he sings "we have the right you know". As usual Graham Russell is perfect in complimenting Hitchcock's lead vocals. This is also heard on "The One That You Love". You will hear some classic trade off on the lead vocals between Graham and Russell; noteably on the song "Goodbye" (which is a David Foster penned song, you can hear his trademark keyboard influence).

The two most powerful numbers are the first live song, "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" and the last live song (actually the 10th track since the remaining 2 are the studio cuts included), "All Out of Love". The live version of "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" even blows away the great studio version. Hitchcock again shows how in touch he is with the crowd and music when he sings "I can make all of the stadiums - ROCK!" (emphasis on the Rock). To me the "Rock" blows me away each time I hear it and it helps set the table for the remaining live cuts to have the high energy and emotion you would expect from an Air Supply live performance. On "All Out of Love", when Russell sings and holds the 'of' on "what are you thinking of" - instead of the classic slight pause you hear on the studio track, you'll hear a spectacular drum pattern followed by the significant pause. It's almost like a mini encore during the pause. The drum pattern lasts about 20 seconds and the pause goes about another 30 seconds. It is the perfect ending to what is a most powerful performance by the band. It's also worth noting that "Sweet Dreams" is very powerful number as well - the keyboard intro will just blow you away.

The liner notes are pretty good. All of the lyrics to all of the songs were included. It would have been nice to see on which songs the Symphony Orchestra played a more prominent role. It also would have been nice to put the album references on each song, but the song copyright date is included. I would have also liked to have seen some more photos (there are six - plus the cover photo).

As for drawbacks, the only real gripe I have is that only six of the classic songs are included from the album. Perhaps if they could have made this a longer album, they could have included tracks like "Just as I Am", "Two Less Lonely People in the World", and "Even the Nights are Better". Don't let this drawback deter you, because the later years stuff included is very good. This is a solid Live Album and one highly recommended for your collection. Judging this as a live album, it really does everything a live album should do - I give it the 5 star rating.

5 out of 5 stars The best Live album I've ever heard.......2004-03-21

About 5 years ago I went to an Air Supply concert. It was really good I have to say, and I even got to go up and meet one of the performers during the concert. So after the concert I went out to buy this CD and grew attatched to the music very easily.

The CD starts out with "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All", which is a good beginning to this LIVE album. It is one of my favorite songs, along with the 7 minute, 14 second "Sweet Dreams". That song is really amazing in lengths that it has a huge piano solo in it in which when I heard it in the concert I was completely blown away. Guy Allison, the pianist, has a great talent that really shines in this album, and in particular this song.

Another song on this album that is remarkable is the ever so popular "Unchained Melody". Air Supply did a very good rendition of this song. One of their big hits, Lost in Love is also really good.

I liked the songs so much that I picked up "The Best Of Air Supply" song booklet for Piano/Guitar/Vocal. It shows you all of the chords and recreates the magic of their sound. A great momento if you are a music tracker type of person.

All in all I really enjoyed listening to this album for the past several years and am going to continue to listen to it a lot in the future. If you want yourself some good soft rock/classic rock sound to listen to, this is a great album to pick up. 5/5 Stars for sure.

5 out of 5 stars #1, The Greatest!.......2002-12-21

Air Supply has always and will always be the best. All of their albums are gold. Russell has such a strong and beautiful voice that will just take your breath away. I have seen them in concert every year, and I can't wait until they come back. I know their next album will be as great as every other. I'm looking forward to their new album, which I understand will be coming out sometime in 2003. Keep on rock'n air Supply! You guys are great! Susanne Curro at eiscu2000@att.net.

1 out of 5 stars Highly critical review.......2001-12-26

This is a terrible CD. I like their music, but this particular CD is absolutely awful...
Fro some reason, these guys are out of tune, their voices are shot (another review describes them as being "mature"), they cannot hit the hight notes, and sound like they both have a bad cold or the flu when they recorded this. I think this was a final effort to squeeze money out of a credulous public that did not expect these "artists" or their music to simply be so bad in person. I am embarrassed to own this album, and I advise you to save your money and spend it on something else.

While the sales of Sarah Brightman's ambitious, Middle Eastern-themed 2003 album Harem may have fallen short of its predecessor, the veteran UK chanteuse's popularity as a live performer has only mushroomed. This live recording of her ambitious, sold-out Harem World Tour engagement at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Arena is testament to that appeal, begging the question: Will Brightman become the Grateful Dead of classical crossover? Indeed, abetted by the rich sonic textures of longtime producer/collaborator Frank Peterson, the worldbeat conceits of her recent studio recordings are folded into a larger, even more expansive live vision here. Brightman's overt dramatic instincts and oft-chaemeleonic vocal abilities drive a slate of material that stretches from the Arabian Nights/Madame Butterflypastiche of Harem's seductive "It's A Beautiful Day" through surprisingly effective classical/rock reinventions of Kansas' "Dust in the Wind" and The Moody Blues' chestnut "Nights in White Satin" to expected classical bowings "Nessun Dorma" and the obligatory nod to "Phantom of the Opera" Amazon.com

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING! She is so much better live!.......2006-12-02

This CD rocks! This is Sarah Brightman on her Harem World Tour, and this performance was recorded at her stop in Las Vegas. The first two tracks, "Kama Surta" and "Harem Overture" debut from her newest album, entitled HAREM. The two tracks are connected, but in the actual Harem Tour, the full piece "Harem" is sung. If you go to www.youtube.com and type in "Harem Tour" in the Search Bar, you can see live videos. I would prefer that the album has placed "Harem" instead of these other two tracks. The third track, "It's A Beautiful Day", is from Madame Butterfly, written by Puccini. This version is Brightman's twist, which some more pop and some English. It's pretty cool. The fourth track on the album, "Dust in the Wind" is from EDEN, an amazing album. Track 5 is, "Who Wants to Live Forever", and it seems as though Brightman never creates a tour without putting this piece in it. It's a beautiful tribute to Queen's rendition. Track Six is "Anytime, Anywhere", also from EDEN. I'm not really into the Foreign Language - English songs, but this works very well, especially because she ends the song with the classical foreign language. The seventh track is Brightman's rendition of Dvorak's "Song to the Moon", or "La Luna". The track is beautiful! The eighth track is Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", and Sarah masters this beautifully! There is no other soprano I know that can sing this piece one octave up and can hold the ending note for ever!!! Track 9 is "The War is Over", which is followed by "Free", both from HAREM. Track 11 is "A Whiter Shade of Pale", from LA LUNA. It's beautiful to listen to. Sarah's version is very gentle, but has a lot of energy in the chorus. The twelfth track on this album is "Twisted Every Way", followed by an instrumental version of "The Phantom of the Opera" Theme. The next track is "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", which is extended at the end, in which you hear some men cry out "WE LOVE YOU SARAH!", and she responds cutely with an, "I love you, too." The audience laughs! Track 14 is "Time to Say Goodbye", the duet that made Andrea Bocelli famous, and skyrocketed as the number one single sold in German history! The last live track on the album is "A Question of Honour", from "Fly", which is awesome! The last track on the album is a bonus track, which I don't really prefer. However, the whole album is simply amazing. I much prefer Sarah when she is live. She has a more magical quality! If you love Sarah Brightman, then you will love this album.

ALSO RECOMMENDED : Since there is so much Sarah Brightman to choose from, I also recommend EDEN, TIME TO SAY GOODBYE, LA LUNA, CLASSICS, and DIVA.

What an album, absolutly beautiful!
We, the fans of this great artist finelly have in our hands a live album, and it's amazing:
-The voice is totaly live, she sang about 24 complete songs in the show, but the album only contains 15.
-Snow In The Sahara is a lovely song.

If you have the chase of get this alubum, don't doubt and get it; It wond disapoint you!

5 out of 5 stars astounding performance.......2005-06-07

an impeccable concert experience that successfully elevates the album to majestic heights. I had long been a fan of Dead Can Dance and the unparalleled work of Lisa Gerrard. When Sarah Brightman ventured into these Middle Eastern sounds on the Harem disc, I thought it was too derivative of the Dead Can Dance sounds (there is even a sample used on one of SB's songs that had previously been used within DCD).

However, experiencing this epic and intensely mystical concert compelled me to realize the individual and unique glory of Sarah Brightman. Also, this concert is so phenomenally entertaining at many levels that I couldn't help but fall absolutely in love with the special magic of Sarah Brightman. Obviously, the expansive Middle Eastern milieu can accommodate more than one angelic vocalist!

I now consider Lisa Gerrard and Sarah Brightman to be geniuses who both warrant goddess status in the pantheon of lyrical greats. To see either one of them perform live is surely one of the most powerful and memorable sensory experiences one could ever have!

4 out of 5 stars Great, of course.......2005-03-18

Sarah's voice and style are terrific, as usual. However, I have to say that her version of Anggun's "Snow on the Sahara" is fairly bland, especially compared to the original Anggun version. Sarah has the chops but lacks soul on this great song. Everything els here is very nice.

Product Description

Bethany World Prayer Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is a multi-cultural, evangelical, mission and worship minded church. The heartbeat of the church is passion for God, and compassion for people. Worship leader Jonathan Stockstill's vision is to write and sing songs that will promote God's Kingdom. "Let The Church Rise" was written right before Hurricane Katrina and became an anthem for what God did during that time. The church sponsored over 1000 evacuees from the New Orleans area. During those months, over 800 of these precious people gave their hearts to the Lord.

5 out of 5 stars Dave Samuels has found the key!.......2005-03-21

Dave Samuels (co)founded the Caribbean Jazz Project years ago and is the only one remaining at present. After years of different lineups and various co-frontmen he finally found the (in my opinion) ideal combination of instruments on their former release "Birds of a Feather", by choosing a trumpet player next to his vibes/marimba. Following the magnificent "Birds of a Feather" is this wonderful 2 cd live set, recorded over a series of three nights at the Manchester Crafts Guild in Pittsburg. The group this time consists of: Diego Urcola - trumpet, Dario Eskenazi - piano, Oscar Stagnaro - bass, Mark Walker - drums and Roberto Quintero - percussion. Diego Urcola does a good job in replacing Ray Vega and Randy Brecker on the last album and Mark Walker is just one of the finest latin jazz drummers around and shows here what an incredibly swinging force he is. There are many good things to be said about this album. Whereas I found their studio albums sounding somewhat sterile, this live set really smokes and gives a much more spontaneous feel. A good example is my favorite track of the album, "One Step Ahëad", which makes for an enthralling 11 minutes listen and making this cd worth buying on its own merit! But there is so much more to enjoy here: The choice of material is really good (although I could have done without "On The Road"), with some standards done in mostly refreshing ways along strong originals by mainly leader Dave Samuels. All in all, this disc comes highly recommended for both first-time and long-time latin jazz listeners!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous.......2005-03-10

This is the type of music that appeals to almost anyone who enjoys jazz, latin jazz or just beautiful music that can take you anywhere. The rhythms are diverse from mellow to intense and the musicians are a real joy to listen to. Highly recommmend this 2 cd set.

5 out of 5 stars Best Latin Jazz.......2005-02-20

This is a terrific CD. Very driving, fine playing. Also enjoyed the use of marimba on many of the tunes. The drummer flat out smokes, and the rest of the band is right there with him. I heard this at Tower and bought it on the spot... and I don't really like latin jazz, go figure

Its companion CD release variously showcases the young voices of Nathan Granner, Daniel Montenegro, and Mauricio O'Reilly (and has there ever been a more quintessentially American name than Mauricio O'Reilly?) in solo turns and bracing harmony, meets the challenge of its more renowned Neopolitan elder statesman with aplomb and offers up a concise argument for the nation's own neo-operatic vocal traditions. While many of the Broadway standards and hoary traditionals break little ground, the trio's energized "West Side Story" medley argues that Broadway can offer up music as bracing as La Scala. Their takes on "Torna a Surriento," "Granada," the medley "O Sole Mio"/"It's Now or Never," and "Funiculi, Funicula" range from savory to playful, offering both a tip of the hat to that other trio and a welcome reminder of how these Italian and Latin rooted songs have become an essential ingredient of America's musical melting pot. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Nathan Granner Fan.......2006-08-04

No offense to the other two great singers on this album, but I'd like to talk about my best friend Nathan who is one of "The American Tenors" and continues to tour and promote this show.

I remember the buzz in the air when they filmed this at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles and the place was standing room only. Critics who were there loved it. Just a few weeks after recording the dvd SONY CLASSICAL (their label) was getting huge marketing projects under way to make "The American Tenors" popular in the States. Unfortunately, all the gigs that were lined up-Jay Leno, The Today Show, and many others got scrapped because the US went to war with Iraq - literally THAT week. Ouch.

That was really too bad because there were some great songs here. The show was buried before it even got a chance because of the war. You might argue that it was buried because the singers were "no names", but let me tell you something, that's crap. There are some songs here that are REALLY GREAT, and the musical arrangments are extraordinary. Nathan's version of "If I Loved YOU" is the best recording of that song you will ever find. I challenge you to find one better.

Whether it be singing on stage at Carnegie Hall, performing on an aircraft carrier in New York Harbor, opening NASDAQ, or a Kareoke Bar in Kansas City, Nathan is a star. He may not be the guy in the headlines today in America, but he has fans in the thousands, and has enormous talent and he can sing any song...ANY SONG and make it sound amazing.

Do yourself a favor and spend the [..] to get this DVD. Or better yet, the [..] for a new copy. Then go visit Nathan Granner's website and find out what he's up to next. If you are lucky someday you may get to hear him sing in person, and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

1 out of 5 stars Chubby tenors.......2006-02-23

Chubby American Tenors. Nothing exceptional in the album, but a certain standart does exist -as is the case with most American products.
The album is little above mediocre when compared to its counterparts (IL DIVO, Mario Frangoulis, Celtic Tenors, etc.)

2 out of 5 stars Worth listening to, but look for it in the library or used.......2005-07-07

OK, I know, these are young, up and coming singers. It's probably not fair to compare them to the likes of Domingo, Pavarotti, etc. yet. But, If you are a fan of "The Three Tenors", and you get this CD expecting a similar listening experience, you will probably be disappointed. The American Tenors are all talented, Nathan Granner particularly so, but they are not yet on the same level as *The* Three Tenors. Of course, they are also probably a few of decades younger; it will be interesting to hear them after they have gained some experience.

Still, even allowing for the singers' relative inexperience, the main reason I didn't rate the CD higher is that it suffers seriously from over-orchestration. Often the instruments were way too loud - sometimes overpowering all but the most powerful of the three voices and forcing me lower the overall volume. At first I thought I was just being picky until I listened to some tracks from "The Three Tenors" again. The difference is obvious; understated, balanced orchestration supports the performers and lets the voices shine through.

3 out of 5 stars Good Overall.......2005-06-21

I enjoyed the presentation, and I enjoyed Natan Granner the most. He has a strong clear voice that deals with this material well. Daniel Montenegro is also strong, but Mauricio O'Reilly's voice comes across as thin and not very powerful. He would do better with softer, more intimate songs, with fewer instruments as accompanyment.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this DVD and would recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars money better spent.......2004-05-12

I really applaud Frank McNamara for attempting this, since I think he is one of our best composers/conductors. However, if you want to spend your hard earned cash, I would use it on the Frank's former colleagues, the Irish Tenors. In particular, I think Anthony Kearns has emerged as possibly the finest tenor voice in the world today. As a big fan of American Musical theater as well as a regular at the opera, I think he could emerge as a superstar.
Time (and his interests) will tell.

5 out of 5 stars Arguably "The Best" English "Merry Widow ".......2006-09-12

This is the "Merry Widow" with English translation by Christopher Hassel sung by June Bronhill. I loved this rendition ever since I first heard it in about 1960. What's to love? First the translation is the best I've heard. The language doesn't sound "stilted" as some others. And, you can understand almost every word sung. Plus, the famous song, "Vilja" has some wording that moves me every time I hear it: The soprano sings, "Love me and I'll DIE for you!" with the word "die" somewhat emphasized. I don't know, there's just something "powerful" about someone saying they'd "die" for love! AND, at the end of "Vilja" the chorus and soprano raise to a crescendo hitting a high note together. In many renditions the chorus is heard but not the soprano on the final high note. In THIS version, the soprano, June Bronhill, can be heard rising to the final high note with an incressing crescendo and fortissimo louder than the chorus and holding the final high note---which gives a very thrilling effect as she holds that final note, I assure you!

The "problem" is that this June Bronhill, Reid, and Hassel version is hard to find on CD. For example, this CD is made in Holland and "there is one left" so it says on Amazon. But, if you can find it, I think it would be very much worth a listen. Then, after hearing it, if you think there's a "better" Merry Widow, please let ME know! Thanks. Email:boland7214@aol.
