About the Artist
Cloud Party's singer/songwriter Jim Speese and guitarist Mark Steffy have been a team (and best friends) going on a decade now.

Speese has hiked the Appalachian Trail, lived in Yellowstone Natioanl Park, played live music from NYC to San Francisco, written 2 novels and is currently working on a book about the lyrics of Roger Waters. He is also an English professor these days.

Steffy loves the subtle guitar of Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour and is a fan of Hendrix. He's played guitar since he was a wee lad, and found a home with Speese's songwriting. The two often play as an acoustic duo in additoin to the band gigs.

Exciting, mesmerizing, erotic, deeply emotional! A sound communication of an unlived true story. An experience of the unknown, yet so close to the soul of everyone. The combination of cosmopolitan jazz concepts, coupled with the intricacies of the Bulgarian folk, where only the jazz music allows and only Theodosii Spassov can execute. In Toronto's Downtown Jazz Festival we had a lifetime experience with Maestro Spassov and his trio. Something to take into and cherish forever in our hearts. It was a blessing from above. Thank you Theo.

We had an excellent jazz festival in Eilat - Israel this week (27th - 30th of August 2001). Spassov was one of the best performances we had there. Spassov is a fine musician who knows how to 'catch' the audience. His music is interesting and even more - exciting. If Spassov is in town - don't miss him.

5 out of 5 stars Bulgarian Kaval Jazz.......2000-07-11

The Kaval is a traditional wind instrument played in the Balkans and especially in Bulgaria. Theodosii Spassov is an incredible kaval player well versed in the folk music of his country as well as jazz. He makes the kaval sound like a flute, clarinet and trumpet. Beutiful music. I wish there were more cd like this.

Following the great album Real, Cloud Party manages to raise the bar just a bit higher with Praying for Rain. Songs like the sad Come Around Again, the Roger Waters-esque Entertain Me, the heart breaking Waiting To Be Beautiful, and the haunting Thirteen Days are the real gems in a very shiny assortment of stones. There's simply not a single bad track on the album.

You'll be sorry if you miss it.

Cloud Party has completely outdone themselves with their latest cd Praying For Rain. Jim Speese's heartfelt lyrics deeply touched my soul. This cd is a far departure from their previous albums. I find it very hard to describe just how magnificent and awe inspiring it is.

The first time I listened to it, when I got to track 6 'Waiting to Be Beautiful,' I had to pull over my car and just listen to the lyrics as they pulled at my heartstrings. The song made me cry. I cannot think of any other song that has touched me so deeply. The part of the song that stands out to be the most is:

" She's waiting to be beautiful.
She's waiting to be bold.
She's waiting to lie naked
Next to someone else's soul."

The other song that really stands out on this cd is 'To the Ends Of Earth'. Again another poignant song in which one cannot help relate to.

Every single song on this album is a work of art. Again, I am lost for words.
