If you liked the movie, you will LOVE the sound track. I listen to it at work all day and the music takes you back to the wonderful sites in the movie.

Very inspiring and relaxing at the same time. I have ALL the sound tracks to ALL the movies, this one has the longest of the Harry Potter Themes ... "Harry's Wonderous World" Takes you right back into the movie.

Highly suggested for ANY Harry Potter fan, young or old.

Even though I found the score for "Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone" a bit disappointing, John Williams manages to outdo himself with the second Harry Potter installmemt. It's funny that William Ross is credited as arranger and conductor, but that doesn't matter: this one has made an improvement over the score of the first movie.
The prologue presents an interesting arrangement of two important Harry Potter themes (Hedwig's theme and the wondrous world music). There are two themes that are a real knockout: one is 'Fawkes The Phoenix', which is extremely magical and wonderful; and the other one is 'The Chamber Of Secrets', with its malevolent flair and mysterious mood. The theme for Gilderoy Lockhart is very entertaining, and the one for Dobby is kind of childlike at best, very nice. The action music is also a nice treat, as shown in tracks like 'The Flying Car', 'The Spiders', 'Cornish Pixies', and 'Dueling The Basilisk'.
In general, this is a fine album, with a great performance by the London Symphony Orchestra. John Williams is definitely a master of the fantastic genre, and his music for this sequel fares better than the original.

The much-anticipated film sequel to the 2001 "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" was a delight. The 2002 film version of J.K. Rowling's second book, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", began with Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) actually having a real bedroom and no longer living beneath the stairs of the home belong to his Aunt Petunia (Fiona Shaw), Uncle Vernon (Richard Griffiths) and his cousin Dudley (Harry Melling). Uncle Vernon warned Harry to not make any noise or be seen while he, Petunia and Dudley entertained some very important people; but a mysterious house elf named Dobby (voice of Toby Jones) unexpectedly appeared in Harry's bedroom. Dobby warned Harry to not return to Hogwarts that year because something horrible was going to happen, but wouldn't tell Harry what it would be. He did tell Harry, however, that he was responble for taking the letters that Harry's friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) had sent to him during their summer break from their first year at Hogwarts. To punish himself for revealing too much information to Harry, Dobby began to hit his head against various objects, then ran from Harry's bedroom to create havoc if Harry didn't agree to not return to Hogwarts. Harry, of course, refuses, and gets into trouble for Dobby's actions; but is rescued from the Dursley's home by Ron and two of his brothers in their father's flying car. Thus began Harry's first experience at the Weasley's home before returning to Hogwarts for his second year: a year in which many terrible things began to happen.

As John William's wonderfully enchanting and memorable music helped to set the mood for the 2001 film "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", his modified music for the 2002 film "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" was equally wonderful in setting its even darker mood. This was exemplified with musical arrangements such as "Knockturn Alley", "Meeting Aragog" and "Dueling The Basilisk". There were also some fun musical arrangements used such as "Gilderoy Lockhart ", "The Flying Car", "Cornish Pixies", "Reunion Of Friends" and the closing credits with the score entitled "Harry's Wondrous World". Though veteran composer John Williams did not receive an Oscar nomination for his work in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" as he had a year earlier for "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", he did win the BMI Film Music Award from the BMI Film & TV Awards for this film's soundtrack.

Overall, I rate the wonderful soundtrack for the 2002 film of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" with a resounding 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it. I also highly recommend the soundtracks for the 2001 "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and the 2004 "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". I can't wait to hear what composer John Williams has written for the upcoming release of the 2005 film "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire".

This soundtrack is beautiful and wonderful to listen to whether you've watched the movie or not. Every song has a mood of its own and will absolutely sweep you off your feet!

This cd is a great addition to any soundtrack collection not only becuase of the brilliant John Williams but becuase of the essence of the pieces. Most songs can stand alone especially Fawkes the Phoenix. It's also fascinating to listen for the themes from the first movie that are sometimes not so subtlely incorporated into the music. The character themes are also very believable and worth listening to especially if you didn't pay too close attention to the movie.

Another thing I've noticed about this soundtrack is that, unlike many others I own, this one is very easy to listen to all the way through without being bombarded with random battle themes and overdone effect songs. Really a great cd for anyone!

John Williams couldn't have done a better job of building off the Scorcerer's Stone to create one of my favorite soundtracks. The melodies he creates for certain characters in the story are not only perfect, but beautiful. Fawkes the Phoenix is, perhaps, one of the most captivating and glorious pieces...while Gilderoy Lockhart sincerely seems to sound like Lockhart would if he were a song! The soundtrack is packed with beautiful, memorable melodies and will leave you completely satisfied. Purchase this soundtrack with confidence...it's magnificent!

I was drawn to buy this CD because of hearing Michael's arrangement and Gary Jules rendition of "Mad World" which was originally recorded by Tears for Fears way back when. I glad I did. The music was written as the underscore for a Science Fiction movie by the same name and now I really want to see this film. The music is other worldly, ethereal and strange in a good way!

Gary Jules' remake of this great past favorite (Mad World) is superb! The accompanying tracks on this album are not my style, but I didn't buy this for the other tracks. For that I feel this score is quite impressive.

Michael Andrews is one of today's best composers. His score for the little-known sci-fi flick "Cypher" was brilliant, and although his music in Donnie Darko is never quite as good (after all, DD was one of his first real scoring jobs), it is a somber, weird, sometimes beautiful album.
Andrews uses many bizarre non-musical instruments and female vocals to great effect, and creates an ambient, sad world that works regardless of your having seen the film.
His song "Mad World" is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
The disk isn't very long--just a little over thirty-seven minutes as I recall. But definitely recommended.

This soundtrack offers a pretty standard mix of new songs, old chestnuts, and excerpts from the score (here by John Debney). On the new tip, Joss Stone and Patti LaBelle engage in an overheated battle of the divas on CD opener "Stir It Up," a bouncy piece of fluff that sounds more like Aretha Franklin circa "Freeway of Love" than classic soul. Other originals include Barenaked Ladies' "One Little Slip" (this movie's answer to Counting Crows' "Accidentally in Love" from Shrek 2) and the Cheetah Girls' peppy-but-bland cover of "Shake Your Tail Feather." But the real highlights are the songs performed by the movie's vocal cast, which includes Joan Cusack, Garry Marshall, Zach Braff, Steve Zahn, and Amy Sedaris. Their group cover of Elton John and Kiki Dee's "Don¹t Go Breaking My Heart," for instance, sounds as if half of them were drunk in the recording studio (and this is meant as a compliment.) Braff's a cappella version of "We Are the Champions" is smashing and Cusack and Zahn's take on the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" is completely demented. My husband bought the Chicken Little movie for our 3 year old (mostly to get us OFF the Cars movie that we all have memorized) and he fell in love with it! He likes to act out the scenes and loves the music. He loves this CD at night when he's going to bed. We all have to dance to One Little Slip (he knows all the words) and then we have to "shake our tail feathers" before he jumps in bed every night! I enjoy the cd too, so it's good for everyone!

My son loved the movie Chicken Little, so we decided to purchase this for him to listen to on his discman. He loves the soundtrack as much as the movie, which made it an awesome investment(especially since the soundtrack has many good singers that aren't too hard on the ears for the adult crowdes either). My son was very happy with this item, and so was I.

I bought the CD to accompany the movie. My four year old watches the movie everyday. When I gave her the CD, after listening to it nightly, she takes it to bed with her everynight where I have to pry it out of her hands after she falls off to sleep. I don't get it, but she does...so it's worth what I paid for it.

I first got this on cassette in the summer of '94 and listened to it every day, drawn by its thematic range and compositional depth. And that was just side-one.

Elfman pioneered the sound that drives today's movie adaptations of comic-books and darker-themed children's stories. Side-One kicks things off with a rollicking, hyper-cartoonish theme from the first Pee-Wee movie - the one where Pee-Wee searches for his beloved bike. Elfman's theme contains layers of different rides - on tightropes, highways, in the middle of a NASCAR rally - which rudely yet melodically crash into each other.

The Batman entry actually contains several pieces - the opening credits, the extended sequence in the cathedral and the climax - which show Batman's darkened extreme at its "Frank Miller" best. (Dir. Tim Burton couldn't sustain the mood in the next sequel, and the franchise took a turn towards the camp of the TV series with the next 2 movies.)

The theme for "Dick Tracy" is perhaps the most romantic on this disc, a quality that surpasses the theme's comic-book origins, but ends on an ironic note that's pure Elfman.

"Beetlejuice" (opening & closing credits) gives Elfman's childish ID a chance to stretch its legs, or in this case, slam-dance.

"Nightbreed" is an enigma wrapped in a dark mystery, and that's just Elfman's score. Elfman's work on this movie is as good as the movie wasn't, having a more powerful narrative than the script - easily the best track on the entire disc, one likely to exceed the movie in its dose of chills.

"Darkman" doesn't quite rise to the occasion, though the score may be hobbled by the movie itself, which seldom surpassed one of the many "Batman" clones of the early 1990's. "Darkman" (the movie, I mean) excelled as a parody of many comicbook staples (the wronged hero, the relentless villain, the scientific breakthrough with just one flaw), but not enough to escape being largely anonymous. Within those constraints, it's still a moving if scary piece.

When is Elfman not like Elfman? When he was in the mid-late `80's and scored "Back to School" (A Rodney Dangerfield vehicle) and "Midnight Run". Horns in "School" bring it closer to Elfman's over-the-top style, while "Run" sounds like a love-theme for the run-down, out-of-the-way parts of America that seldom appear in Elfman-movies. "Run" is a fun score for a fun movie - it's nothing like Elfman's previous work but it perfectly captures the on-the-road-without-a-map craziness of the movie.

To this day, I don't know why I never ventured to Side-two, but it's irrelevant. Even half this disc is worth it

I was obsessed about getting this CD right from when I heard about it. I found it at the library and was so excited about it, and it didn't let me down. In fact, it was a lot better than I expected. It's a fun and creepy (strange mix, but it really works!) collection of Danny Elfman's film and television soundtracks. The first track, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, is probably my favorite. Also, I really like Batman and Wisdom. Batman is creepy and dark, and Wisdom is just weird, in the best possible way.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes film music, or everyone who is even the tiniest bit an Elfman fan. It's amazing!

4 out of 5 stars Great Collection, A LIttle Too Eclectic.......2003-08-19

You should be able to tell from the movies and TV shows listed here whether or not you'd be interested in this collection. It's a little too eclectic for my tastes (hence only 4 stars) but better than volume 2. I think thatthe miscellaneous collected ites here along with the previously unreleased stuff should make this worth buying. Especially if you're a fan of Elfman's movie soundtrack work.

I fell in love with the music of Danny Elfman when Beetlejuice came out. There was something different about the music that he made. When Edward Scissorhands, and then Nightmare Before Christmas - I knew this man was a musical master. Its the verbal form of surrealism.

What a great CD. Danny's music is so original and inventive. this CD contains his pre 90's quirky, gothic music. it's all very well written and beautifully orchestrated. batman and darkman contain some really excellent long, dark, gothic cues that really take u away from reality. in my opinion no one, apart from howard shore, is as inventive and original as danny in the world of filmmusic. he far surpasses the repetitive works of williams or horner. buy this, and volume two, and keep supporting one of the greatest film composers of all time.ohh...and buy fellowship of the ring and two towers by howard shore....amazing work!

I really loved the movie and especially little Frankie. There where three songs that just stuck in my head for weeks, so I bought the CD... unfortunatly out of the three songs, only one was on the CD... I was alittle dissapointed but overall it is a good CD. I really like Jesse Harris. He is the best on the whole CD.

After watching "Dear Frankie" on cable several times, I decided to buy it and the soundtrack album. I did not read the detailed list of songs before buying. Although the soundtrack is good for what it is, I was disappointed that the song "Delicate" by Damien Rice was not included. Nor was the song about the "white horse" that was sung twice during the movie, once by Lizzie and once by the club singer. It would have been nice also to have the "Macarena" song which was in the movie.

This album is nice because it has all the score music along with all the other music played in the movie on one CD. The "Dear Frankie Main Title" is especially nice to have. I bought this CD for my sister for Christmas, but now the whole family wants to listen to it. I would recommend it for anyone that liked the movie!

I stumbled upon this quiet little movie and feel like I've discovered a wonderful jewel. I was immediately enamored by the soundtrack and worked hard to purchase it right away. The music along with a few dialogue excerpts communicate much of the emotion and power of the movie. There's one song that was, regrettably, not on the soundtrack but I recommend be added to the CD or your collection: Damien Rice, "Delicate" from the "O" album. The music communicates such a sense of loss and longing while maintaining just enough of a glimmer of hope that you end up feeling alright.

It's a wonderful soundtrack and definitely worth the purchase.

Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, who were protegés of Frank Loesser, composed and wrote lyrics for only two hit shows of their own--The Pajama Game was the other. (Ross died in 1955, shortly after the opening of Damn Yankees.) But what great shows they were, in sensibility and subject matter entrenched in their Eisenhower era, yet eminently revivable today--and as much more than period pieces. Damn Yankees, which was based on Douglas Wallop's novel The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant, neatly combined the national obsession with baseball and its dominant team with the Faust legend. The Devil himself (Ray Walston) offers a middle-aged fan of the Washington Senators the chance to turn into a Mickey Mantle-esque ballplayer (Stephen Douglass) to help his hapless team against those Bronx Bombers. The fan accepts, but with an escape clause in the interest of story-line complications. What makes the plot problematic is not its proven fantasy level; it's that the leading lady, Lola, the Devil's temptress assistant, doesn't appear until way into the first act, and then she is required to dominate the show with just two solos and a couple of duets. Only a star with the guts and stage-holding ability of Gwen Verdon could have managed this in the first place, even though her solos are the estimable "A Little Brains--A Little Talent" and the near-standard "Whatever Lola Wants." Bebe Neuwirth, as Lola, was never able to seize the stage--or the recording--of the 1994 revival, and ultimately that show became about Jerry Lewis as the Devil, for God's sake. Verdon's and Walston's amazing original performances are preserved in the movie version (Tab Hunter took over the ballplayer's role), but this recording is the one to have. The show's breakout hit song, sung by ballplayers and fans, was and is "(You Gotta Have) Heart." Damn Yankees and all its songs have just that. --Robert Windeler

So, I just bought this version, after owning the revival cast, and being in it recently. There are definitly good things about this recording. The music is beautiful and Old Joe has a beautiful voice. Also, Joe Hardy is better on this recording than the revival. Unfortunately Lola is not the greatest in this cast, I much perfered the revival's Lola. SO which version should you get? Collectors, should get both, people who perfer a more classical musical theater should get this version. Other than that, the new version, is better, and a better value. Favorite Song: "Goodbye, Old Girl"

You may have seen the movie like I did, you may have seen Damn Yankees performed in summer stock theater like I did, but the original Broadway cast recording is outstanding. I used to listen to it a lot since my father had the album and introduced me and my siblings to musicals in the 50's. The songs and artists were better than I remembered from the LP. If you like the old classic musicals, you'll love this CD. I don't mind at all that it isn't in stereo-it's just wonderful the way it is. I have since ordered the movie from Amazon!!! Just the title alone will entice any Red Sox fan like me--too bad the Washington Senators were the subject team and not the Sox.

I ordered the DVD of Damn Yankees to watch on TV for my daughter because she is doing a play and needed it for the day I ordered it. I paid for fast delivery because she had a deadline and we were thrilled to receive it on time but was very disappointed to see that it was the CD of only music! I don't think I will order from Amazon again, it was my first time and probably my last.

DAMN YANKEES! is a fun show. Not one of the very best ever written - the plot s full of holes - but still a great deal of fun on stage.

The Adler-Ross score holds up well, though the ballads get a bit dreary. "Heart" and "Whatever Lola Wants" were the big hits but Ray Walston's "Good Old days" and the duet "Two Lost Souls" are enjoyable.

RCA Victor did the cast album, taping the whole score (except the song "Not Meg" which was cut after opening night never to be heard again) and including some dialogue. The album is slightly marred by the flat boxy sound that pervades most of the label's early cast albums. Still it preserves the performances of Gwen Verdon and Ray Walston.

They also appeared in the 1958 film version with Tab Hunter replacing Stephen Douglas as the star ball-player. The soundtrack album (also on RCA) makes changes to the lyrics and drops three songs, adding a new ballad "There's Something about an empty Chair" that is even more dreary than the song it replaces.

The 1994 Broadway revival (on Mercury) offers a more thorough recording, but the performances on this original cast disc can't be beat.

So begins one of Broadway's most delightful (and successful) musical offerings of the early 50's, DAMN YANKEES, based on the popular novel 'The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant' by Douglass Wallop.

With its immortal, zippy score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, the musical starred the legendary triple-threat Gwen Verdon (in her first leading role following her debut in CAN-CAN) and also featured Ray Walston as the snide 'Devil in Disguise' Mr Applegate.

The cast includes Stephen Douglass (THE GOLDEN APPLE) as well as Rae Allen, who sings the show-stopping "Shoeless Joe From Hannibal, Mo.". Gwen Verdon, in the role of scene-stealing seductress Lola, gets several choice numbers including her now-legendary "Whatever Lola Wants", as well as "A Little Brains, A Little Talent", "Who's Got the Pain?" and "Two Lost Souls". Shannon Bolin (PROMENADE) sings the plaintive cry for attention, "Six Months Out of Every Year".

Although immortalised on screen as well as being revived for Broadway in the 90's, nothing can ever top the original 1955 cast album of DAMN YANKEES in terms of perfection and excitement. Highly-recommended.

...but a lot of the game's music didn't make the jump to the CD. Missing are
the songs that play in the Bullworth cliques' hideouts, the tunes from the
stores and arcade games, and the more ambient themes, like the locker-picking
song. I'm especially disappointed the tunes from "The Final Cut" and the
Preppies' and Townies' hideouts weren't included.

Still, the tracks that are here are improved, somewhat extended versions of
what you'll hear on your PS2. Overall, it's a worthwhile purchase.

I think that this story is nice because is about two adolescents that get in love. But their love can't last forever because they are different. They are different because Winnie doesn't have everlasting and Jesse does. I think that this author had a lot of imagination to create this fantasy story. I think Winnie did the right thing by not drinking the water from the tree because if she did she would never die. And everybody is gonna die one day. Poor Jesse because he loved her so much and he would miss her a lot.

My dad bought me this soundtrack, as he knows I am big fan of the book and the movie. I'd have to say that the music upholds the spirit of the book very well (especially track #2) and lends a great deal of emotion to the movie.

DAMN YANKEES! is a fun show. Not one of the very best ever written - the plot s full of holes - but still a great deal of fun on stage and on screen.

Gwen Verdon and Ray Walston re-create their Broadway performances here with zest and polish. Less effective is Tab Hunter replacing Stephen Douglas as the star ball-player. He simply can't sing teh score well enough and two of his solo songs are dropped. This shifts teh musical burden to the supporting cast, but robs the central love-story of much of its development. The movie makes changes to the lyrics and adds a new ballad "There's Something about an empty Chair" that is even more dreary than the song it replaces.

Sound quality is not great. The album was orinally announced for release in both stero and mono formats but only the mono Lp was ever actually issued. This Cd marks the first release of the stereo tapes and although an improvement, it still suffers from that flat boxed-in sound of Warner Bros.

Best to stick with the original Broadway cast disc.

The film soundtrack to DAMN YANKEES is similar but certainly quite inferior to the peerless 1955 original Broadway cast album. The Warner Bros. film brought the entire original cast to reprise their roles (with the exception of Stephen Douglass who was replaced by Tab Hunter, who provided the marquee-value for the box office). Gwen Verdon's performance of Lola is perhaps even better here than on the 1955 OBC; she belts the role a little better and on the whole her singing is stronger here. Shannon Bolin gets a new song "There's Something About an Empty Chair" which isn't really memorable. Rae Allen once again knocks `em dead with "Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO", and Ray Walston's performance of Mr Applegate is priceless. Tab Hunter is only average in his singing as the younger Joe Hardy. The remastering of this album is quite fine; there is some scratch and surface-hiss, but nothing too-obtrusive.

This is absolutely one of my favorite CD's in the entire world. First, let's talk about the differences between it and the Broadway CD. The Broadway recording contains two absolutely lovely songs, "A Man Doesn't Know" and "Near To You", and also the hilarious "The Game." These three were cut from the movie and replaced by "There's Something About An Empty Chair" (The only Damn Yankees song I cannot stand... it's just not fun nor pretty...). Otherwise, with a few changes in the length and phrasing of "A Little Brains, A Little Talent", "Whatever Lola Wants", and "Who's Got The Pain"... it's no different than the Broadway CD. However, I LIKE this CD more than the Broadway CD. I don't know why... the background music just sounds better to me over all, and Gwen Verdon actually SOUNDS like herself. Don't get me wrong, I own the Broadway CD also and I LOVE IT, but if you're debating, this is definitely the way to go (unless one of the cut songs is your favorite). After all, there's nothing like hearing the phrases "Hallo Joe!" and "ERP!" now is there? :o)

This CD is an exact replica of the 1958 LP. My only regret is the fact that they should have re-issued the original tracks with the underscoring and full dance orchestrations. As it stands, this is a very enjoyable listening experience with "A Little Brains, A Little Talent" (Verdon) being the show's standout number.

This soundtrack of the 1958 film version of the Adler-Ross Broadway hit "Damn Yankees" really makes me wish I could get my hands on a copy of the film itself. This great score is very well-represented by the entire cast, almost all of it directly from the original Broadway company. Dynamic readings from the baseball players and Rae Allen as the reporter in "Heart" and "Shoeless Joe," Ray Walston recreating his Tony-winning role as Mr. Applegate in "Those Were the Good Old Days," and especially the great Gwen Verdon, also recreating her Tony-winning, starmaking role of Lola. Though she was probably a better dancer than a singer, Verdon makes up for it with her incredible energy and zest. (And I bet nobody noticed her singing skills in the film, as I expect she was dancing too well for them to even care) From "A Little Brains, A Little Talent" to her famous "Whatever Lola Wants" seduction to "Who's Got the Pain," which also features her choreographer and later husband, Bob Fosse, Verdon is wonderful. And the shows two ballads, "Goodbye, Old Girl" and "There's Something About An Empty Chair" (The last written especially for the film) are pretty good, too. Definitly worth a look.

William Ross provided the score for the 1996 movie THE EVENING STAR, which was a sequel to the 1983 movie TERMS OF ENDEARMENT. The movie is both funny and sad, a beautiful movie all around, so its no surprise there is also a truly beautiful soundtrack. Unfortunately, the soundtrack is out of print, but well worth it for those who enjoy soundtracks and or this movie. The music is stirring, it can elevate your spirits or touch your soul. Its an excellent companion to the movie, the instrumentals are breathtaking and beautiful. It might cost a bit to find this one but its worth the effort required.
