Album Description

The Eagles reunited in the studio for 1994's Hell Freezes Over, and they continue to tour to great acclaim, but their reputation was made on the stellar repertoire they recorded from '72-'80, presented here in one collection for the first time. It all began in the early '70s when the band soared above their origins as harmony-heavy roots-rockers to emerge as the defining artists of the influential Southern California scene. They delivered four consecutive #1 albums that decade; three are contained herein (the fourth was their 1976 Greatest Hits). Ultimately they became one of the all-time biggest acts in contemporary music. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, they made the R.I.A.A.'s elite Artists of the Century list in 1999.

excellent set of cds.......all they made and then some other versions. very enjoyable. if you like the eagles you will love this

4 out of 5 stars For collectors and those that don't have Eagles on CD only.......2005-04-19

The people who should pick this up are the ones who want to get the Eagles catalog remastered in one shot and want the original style packaging. The songs are classics and there's a lot of stuff that you won't get on the greatest hits package (although "Very Best of" manages to cover a lot).

But for a very limited edition that has a higher pricetag, Don, Glenn, Joe and Tim should have autographed each set (because it is their devoted fans likely buying the set), even if it meant raising the price on the set even higher.

I also think that the entire set should've been a CD/DVD collection, as a lot of rare footage exists from this era as well, some of which has been shown on VH1 Classic. I just think it's far more fun to just watch the archive footage with its flaws than the flawless "Hell Freezes Over" concert.

The "bonus" CD should've had the "Get You In The Mood" B-side from "Take It Easy" that they have never put out on CD.

The only other thing I can think of is that "Eagles Live" should include more songs as the original 2 LP release had time constraints. Hopefully one day they can do a proper "Eagles Live" box set to cover the original Eagles with Leadon/Meisner as well as the Felder/Walsh/Schmidt lineup, because a lot of great songs they'd done live were left off.

I think that because they have been putting out more repackages than new material (they really don't need to put anything out to justify touring), I don't see it appealing to anyone who already has all their CDs to begin with.

Bottom line: The Eagles have repackaged themselves one too many times (the DVD-Audio version of "Hotel California" probably the only repackage worth its weight) , yet they have a lot of live material in the vaults that are far worth exploring than yet another repackage of what we've all heard many times over as well as concerts they've recorded for TV and have on film.

But DO watch out for the Eagles "Farewell I" DVD to be released sometime in June 2005 and shown on network TV.

2 out of 5 stars This Must Be The Third or Fourth compiliation in a Row - WHY.......2005-04-17

By now most of us have the all of the albums, even the remastered ones on this box set. Many of us (not me) bought the Very Best of the Eagles collection last year, not to mention the last box set, or "Hell Freezes Over", or Eagles Live...

Or the previous two greatest hits cds. It goes on and on, and so far no sight of their long awaited "new" studio album.

So why are Glenn, Don, Joe and Timmy hitting us with still another remastered, repackaged set of the same old songs? And why are people still willing to pay the big bucks their albums always run???

"How Long", a marvellous, country-rocking Frey-Souther composition, was an early Eagles live staple. How come it has never seen the light of day on a recording? There's no reason why they couldn't include it on this set, except maybe that Henley and Frey would still prefer to besmirch the contributions of Leadon and Meisner (and Felder too).

Don't you think it is high time to release that (not-so) new studio album, and give us new music, Henley??? You talk about CORPORATE GREED, DON, so what do you call this over [...] dollar turkey?

Glenn, are you listening too?

Either get those creative juices flowing again, boys, or cut the prices or the [...] You are millionaires so many times over it isn't funny.

Unless Bernie and Randy are benefiting from this, don't bother. Or get yourself a Chris Hillman,(who has a wonderful new album coming out very soon) Herb Pedersen, Bernie Leadon, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, or even a Burrito Deluxe cd. At least these musicians are keeping the honored tradition of California Country Rock alive. Glenn Frey and Don Henley sure ain't.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Box.......2005-04-14

This limited edition box set is a must have for any Eagles fanatic. There's nothing new here musically in the way of outtakes or remastering, but the presentation is amazing. Rhino has recreated the artwork for all the band's original 70's albums (and 1980's Live release) down to the smallest detail. From poster inserts to dust sleeves, each cd is meticulously crafted to mirror its record counterpart. Even the feel of the cd case are authentic from the unusual texture of On The Border to the raised artwork or One Of These Nights. This set is pricey, so casual fans will not be interested. As is the norm, Rhino Records has risen to the occasion with another superb reissue that is well worth the price tag.

5 out of 5 stars If you want all the classic albums, you can't go wrong here.......2005-03-30

Eagles (2005.) A collection of the Eagles' Asylum Records releases. Their second box set.

Many a classic rock band has been all but forgotten in the modern age - but not the Eagles. The band is one of the top-selling musical acts of all time, and unlike many of the bands from their same era, their music remains popular with rock and roll fans young and old alike. A good deal of collections of the band's work have been released over the years - there is really no shortage of them. Does the group's second box set do Don Felder, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Glenn Frey, and Timothy Schmidt justice? Read on and find out.

To put it simply, this box set is nothing short of excellent. You get everything the band released on Asylum Records. This consists of the band's self-titled debut, Desperado, On The Border, One Of These Nights, Hotel California, the Christmas single, The Long Run, and Eagles Live. That's seven discs total (Eagles Live is two discs.) The sound quality on the albums is great. But what's even better is that the record company underwent the task of creating exact reproductions of the albums' original vinyl packaging - something the CD reissues sold separately sure as hell didn't! The reproductions even feature little sleeves in the slipcases, just like the vinyls did. That's reason alone to buy the set if you're a fan of the band from back in the day. If you don't own anything by the band, and you want to just get most of it in one place, this set will do great. I, for one, have ALWAYS loved the band's music but never had gotten around to buying anything by them before, so for me, this worked out great.

Admittingly though, this set isn't perfect, but most of the flaws are due to who owns the rights to what recordings, so I can't really blame them for these. The 1994 album Hell Freezes Over and the 2003 Hole In The World single aren't here because they were done on record labels other than Asylum. Another problem I have with this set is the price. Don't get me wrong, I know it's a limited edition set, and I know that in many cases buying this set is better than buying the albums separately (since stores normally inflate), but the asking price is still a bit much. Likewise, the discs don't have any bonus material despite the fact that most of them only clock in around forty minutes. I also wish the set wasn't a limited edition, since it kills the old box set dead. Still, these flaws are ultimately negligible, and I still recommend buying this if you're a fan of the band.

In the end, this is an awesome set. If you're a fan of the band who doesn't have any of the group's albums yet, and money is no problem, this will get you almost everything, all in one place. Just be sure to pick up Hell Freezes Over, too. No classic rock collection is complete without the Eagles' albums, and this is the fastest, easiest way to get them.

Lacks a lot of the filler that plagued the earlier volumes, and does include some actual hits ("Bette Davis Eyes," "Just the Two of Us," "Living Inside Myself," and "Sweetheart"), but more could have been done to tighten up this CD. All original versions.

While this is NOT the Randy Meisner album we've all been waiting on for more than twenty years, it's certainly GREAT to have it!
Consisting of "long-lost" tracks and a couple of tunes from the scant recording contibutions he's made with others over the years, this album is still a pure joy to listen to if you're a 'Randy fan'. Several FANTASTIC tracks interspersed with quite-enjoyable songs (especially when compared with the pablum the music industry serves up these days). My only quibble is that the liner-notes aren't extensive enough. I would love to know the scoop on ALL these songs. When and with whom they were recorded, what album (if any) they were intended for, etc. Regardless, I smiled the whole way through listening to this album for the first time. GREAT to have another Randy album, no matter the format.

Randy Meisner was one of the original members of The Eagles. Originally released in 1982 (not to be confused with his 1978 self-titled release) on Epic Records, Randy Meisner is making its worldwide CD debut. It features guest appearances by Nicky Hopkins on piano, Tower Of Power Horns plus Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart. Song lyrics included. 9 tracks. Wounded Bird. 2003.

      Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Beware the Wounded Bird Records issue of this disc..........2006-04-09

I specifically bought this disc for the Ann Wilson duet, already having the album on vinyl. Much to my horror--this is the absolute worst sounding quality CD I've ever heard! There is constant upfront hiss throughout the entire disc, and the music sounds far back--with a horrible thin tin quality. Do NOT buy the wounded bird records re-issue.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing third solo album doesn't take flight.......2004-01-06

Yikes! How did I get a Journey CD? As a long time fan of The Eagles and Poco, I was startled when I first put this CD in the player. I hadn't owned it (much less knew of its existence in 1982)and thought it might be as good as his albums Hearts on Fire (his best solo album although I'd have to disagree about it being the best Eagles solo album)and Randy Meisner (1978 self titled album not to be confused with this one).

The first track is second class MOR which could have been cut by any faceless rock band. The arrangement sounds like prime Journey. Never Been In Love is probably my least fav track on the CD. Luckily, it improves. Darkness of the Heart isn't bad nor is the by-the-numbers Bryan Adams song Tonight. The song between these two Jealousy is a Meisner original co-written with two other writers and is pretty good. The production doesn't compliment the song the best.

Playin' in The Deep End is another Meisner original (again, co-written)that's pretty good. Strangers is a by-the-numbers Elton John song written with one of his lesser collaborators (hint, it's not Bernie Taupin and, unfortunately, doesn't sound like it either). Still Runnin' isn't bad but lyrically cliched. Nothin is Said ('Til The Artist Is Dead)rocks. It's suffused with wit. Doin' It For Delilah is by Meisner's friend from The Poor John Corey and closes out the album strongly.

Randy Meisner isn't the worst album by an ex-Eagle but it's certainly disappointing.

      3 out of 5 stars Randy Meisner ex-Eagle/Poco his 3rd album.......2003-08-06

This self titled album of 1982 not to be confused with the self titled album of 1978 shows Randy moving well away from his Country Rock origins into a more bombastic sound reminiscent of Styx or REO Speedwagon. His collaborators included Craig Bickhardt an Alt Country musician who later worked with Poco on the 2002 Running Horse. Mike Flicker who sometimes produced Poco, Mitchell Froom an Australian musician/producer who worked with Icehouse and Crowded House from Down Under, Ann & Nancy Wilson from Heart and a raft of LA session musicians, Phil Kenzie, John Corey who will or had worked with the Eagles. Randy was obviously trying to recapture the sound of Poco/Eagles and sometimes went close on some of the tracks here. The better tracks include Never Been in Love, Jealousy and Still Runnin. The album features an Elton John cover and a Bryan Adams tune, but fades towards the end with two tracks of debatable worth. I would certainly look at his two previous albums before this one especially One More Song which is a little beauty.

          Product Description

60s/70s rock, one of the great unheard gems of the era. Help the Poor Well this is when I came in... It was the summer of 67 and I was in Chicago at my girlfriends house, who was a flight attendant for United Air. Her roommate had a boyfriend musician who was on his way to NYC to perform at some club where Jimi Hendrix was playing. The Band was the POOR and they had a recent single release that was getting some play in LA and they were starting to happen "My Mind Goes High" Any way this guy Patrick Shanahan was the drummer for a group out of Denver and we sat and strummed and talk. He was a cool guy and started to play me several songs that wowed me... a tune by a songwriter in LA. Lee Mallory, "Some sunny Day", The Stoning of the quite man, by Crowley and Crough, along with a tune or two by Brewer and Shipley, I went wow... songwriting... as I had been playing in a Chicago cover band with a recently released regional single. I was so turned on about the creativity as opposed to just covers. Patrick then invited me to come visit them in LA. I packed up and within a few weeks I was in Hollywood more or less living with the POOR and meeting people that would soon be the band "THE MILLENNIUM". I met Lee Mallory, Curt Boettcher, first Curt had put me together with Michael Fennely later of Crabby Appleton, and Michael Fennely solo album. I got a lot of session work from Gary Usher and played and played and played. Back to the story of the POOR well I was there for all of it, The down days the raise the evolution, it was so amazing the talent in the Poor was Big... Sonic Past Music has brought you the Poor from the bits and pieces that were recorded here and there which we compiled and sorted through to create some what of an album which I am sure would have been better had they ever really gotten a major deal. From Randy Meisner to Randy Naylor of "Twin Engine" (a sonicpastmusic.com release), we have licensed these songs throughout the world, we bring you the bes

5 out of 5 stars Love it but not enough to pay $32 for it.......2006-05-07

This is a wonderful CD and I came to the site prepared to buy it. But there is no CD I will pay $32 for. Can't find on Itunes or Napster either. What is the deal here?

5 out of 5 stars The "forgotten" Eagle realy shines !.......2005-12-15

Randy Meisner, let us call him the "forgotten" Eagle, brings us here on this CD, a lovable breeze, and a hybrid musical joy somewhere inbetween Poco (another group wich he had played for) and Eagles soft core quality country music which realy has the right sting to it. He puts you into a good mood with Track 1 which i will call the "hit song that should have been" Hearts on Fire, and ended with Track 9 Anyway Bye Bye. But the best thing on this CD is the quality which shines all trough. Eagles members Don Henley and Glen Frey, and Jack Tempchin as one of the songwriters on One More Song, i wonder how you can possibly go wrong. But the best thing about the CD is the "mood" all trough. So relaxable to listen to. It`s the simplenes and the smooth soundpicture that realy lifts this one. Track 5 I Need you Bad put`s you into a Desperado mood, can you realy ask for more ? Track 6 One More Song, is high standard, and when you hear Frey and Henley in the background. Woooah.
This one realy does it. Highly recomended.
