what more can i say " awesome ".......2007-07-10
let me start by saying i love live music and covers . it's a no lose situation unless they murder the songs . which are not done here .i have every tesla cd , and "into the now" was just as great as "mechanical resonance" . so to come out with a cover album , was a great idea . it's not an album thrown together with filler songs . they had to learn the music , and then to replicate it with minor tweaks .awesome job . the musicianship here is incredible ,and jk could always sing .yea, it's a bummer about cd2 ,but hey ,spend the money and go see em .you'll love it .i've seen em 3 times ,and they rock . "ball of confusion" is my choice for best song here. but it's hard to argue against any of em , the guitar work is downrite NASTY ,"day of the eagle ", "rock bottom" , "walk away " , "stealin'". two thumbs up , a must have . now after this great return of tesla , i hope for a new one to come .
another cover.......2007-07-08
another great cover cd IT is SLICK of them to only make the second half of this set available from the concert (should be made available other ways) what if they do not come near me how am I suposed to get the 2nd half but I must say a brilliant marketing idea
Powerhouse for Day on the Green Lovers!.......2007-07-07
I love this CD! Yeah, you gotta go to the concert to get the second CD, SO WHAT! So you got to go to a rock concert and that pisses you off? Go listen to pop then! I love the concept, because I loved the Tesla sound originally, and have wanted to hear more. I would love to see them in concert and am hoping that they will add the tour dates for Nor Cal. Who is the faithful fan? I'm one I admit. Even though a cover cd, it does remind me of the day long concerts with 5-6 bands playing, the mandatory t-shirt, and the riffs that last for 10 minutes -- how I miss those days!!! Contrary to other reviews I like the vocals and simply love the guitar work on this album, incredible!!! Hope you like it too!
This ain't no cover re-hash!.......2007-07-06
First let me say this. Tesla is a "peoples band". They have always been a band of the people. No compromise, no frills, just musicians that know what blues based rock and roll is all about. Even with their side projects such as Moondog Mane and Bar 7, the band went around the loop of rock, then reformed on the Hear and Now disc, which by the way is a CLASSIC disc.
This disc, made me smile, especially with versions of Bad Reputation by Thin Lizzy and Rock Bottom by UFO. Christ all mighty, if this doesn't make you want to get in your car, and go blow a hole in the wind, while cranked to 10, then you are dead from the neck up.
Can't wait for the tour to venture down San Antonio way, because this cowboy his a ticket buyer! Thanks Guys, for first, recording the disc in my home state. That is right, down El Paso way is where this little gem was brewed up! And for keeping your music and your hearts real. God Bless you and and keep on rockin!
Still remember when you rocked Ector County with Def Leppard and when you headlined with Great White. Memories forever!
Cowboy Craig of the Coastal Bend.
Great CD.......2007-07-06
From start to finish, this CD in my opinion is very enjoyable. I think the band does a great job on most songs and on some like "Thank You" and Bell Bottom Blues, they are outstanding. I've been listening to Tesla since the GRC and I have no problem with another cover album. I would love to hear many of these tunes played live along with all the old favs. Enjoy the Cd for what it is, a great rockin' CD that doesn't quit. See ya the shows.....

Kinda fun in a weird way.......2003-04-15
I call this "Robot Rock". Ghostly, distant vocals, opaque lyrics, jerky beats and clammering guitars occasionally give way to eerie instrumentals that bring to mind music from "The Twilight Zone". There are real songs, though, and some of them are actually good-favorites are the pulsing "Premonition", the instrumental "Film Theme" and the pretty closer "Scar".
The monster has two faces.......2002-12-23
This is a very paranoid album . The first time I listened to it it freaked me out but gradually within time I began to like it .
The thing is though when you buy this album don't expect it to be some bombastic pop/rock record . This is dark, eerie and to some extent a very scary record to listen to . As one of the listeners said Veldt kinda sounds like some aquatic jungle .
Now I still find new elements to the songs even though I've owned the album for close to a year and a half now .Well this is it's second stint because the last one got so badly scratched that I could only replace it when I went on holidays in Holland( it is a rare thing for me to rebuy an album after it has been scratched but this makes it all the more worth it ) . If you listen to it on your headphones there's things that make some of the songs even more menacing than what you thought once before . All in all making it a more and more appealing album .
Listen to this if you want experimental music taken to it's most darkest of elements . If you're looking for looking for something a bit more warm however you could always try the fantastic New Gold Dream which has all of what Simple Minds would later become to be known better for ( without the bombast )
Definitely before its time.......2002-09-08
This album deserves 4 stars from me, but I'm a fan who really, really digs it. The average listener (who is objective and receptive to this kind of music - i.e. not a die-hard Def Leppard fan) would probably assign it 3 stars. This is ground-breaking music, heavy with electronic experimentation.
The first side (or first 7 tracks) is highly experimental and therefore more challenging. Some tracks are a rather difficult listen such as the unweildy "Naked Eye." However, the opener "Real to Real" is a good song with a haunting quality and "Veldt" sounds like a stroll through a surrealistic jungle (or "field" as the title would indicate). Most of my favorite music has a "trippy" quality, and this stuff definitely qualifies.
The second side still contains plenty of electronics, but it is more easily digestable, either for it's more familiar song structures or because some of the songs rock out quite a bit more. "Premonition" steers straight ahead into strange territory, guided by a solid bass line. "Changeling" is perhaps the best song on the album. It certainly rocks the most and has positively corrosive synth and guitar figures along with a confident, loping drum beat. "Film Theme" is an evocative, lazy, hypnotic instrumental - beautiful. "Calling Your Name" is another unique sounding rocker and "Scar" is an epic sounding song that would sound great in a futuristic film. It half-way reminds me of old U2 (but I bet they would dislike the comparison).
Kerr's vocals are great as always, although they are often affected to sound wierd or cool. He's got a phenomenal voice, but it's less evident on these earlier records. If you're interested in early rock/electronic music, you can do far worse than this intriguing album.
Takes more than a simple mind to enjoy..........2002-07-07
Let's face it: Fans of mid-80's Simple Minds stuff will more than likely NOT enjoy this album. However, fans of experimental new wave and post-punk music should give it a listen. It takes some time to grow on you but it's fairly rewarding, although most of it tends to lack the emotion of post-punk music. Indeed, a few songs fall flat, but a few are just fantastic. Uneven, but a good effort.
The album sort of comes off as a mix of Kraftwerk, Tuxedomoon, Legendary Pink Dots, Bauhaus, Devo, and Magazine, with some touches of Roxy Music, late-70's Bowie, and early XTC...but not too much like any of them individually.
first sign of what was to come.......2002-05-03
I have been a fan of Simple Minds since the very beginning--the late great CFNY in Toronto (the best radio station ever) played "Life in a Day" and I was hooked. This album is not so great but it does signal a huge change from the uneven pop of their debut. The sound here is much more electronic, but it is also very muddy--this is not a fault of the cd but of the original masters, which were overproduced. I think the band recognized this because I seem to recall they issued live versions of a few of these tracks as b-sides a few years later. Now there are still some great songs on this album (Changeling for one) and if you like Sons and Fascination you need to check it out...but be prepared. Empires and Dance is much more fully realized--that is their first truly great record. (And Sparkle in the Rain is maybe their last)

Marillion in its beginnings.......2003-05-17
This is a combo of two live EPs from the early 80's (not really a box set).
It's interesting to listen to it to get a feeling of what the band was like back when it was starting to gain a bit of fame. It's the only place to listen to some of the early songs in concert, as sang by Fish...a real nice complement to 'The thieving magpie'...it's also one of the few places to find the studio version of 'Freaks'
A great CD, buy it before it go out of stock.......1999-05-20
Some songs makes the CD really worth: the live version of "Cindarella Search", expecially the lead guitar, is wonderful. Some other songs, like "Lady Nina", are nice, but have to be labeleled definitively as "B" sides. These are the minority on the CD, and after all I think this is a very good one. I liked the first edition which missed "Keyleight", "Fugazi" and "Script for a Jester Tears" and I think these three songs add a great value to a CD which was already good.

Customer Reviews:
Go along for the ride.......2001-08-17
Reel Tight hails from Chattanooga, Tenn. The album blends funk, R&B, hip-hop and soul.
The first single, "(Do You) Wanna Ride," is a mid-tempo track, but one of the best songs on the album is "I Want U," a funky dance track with a strong bass line.
The song is easy to grove to, just like the majority of the album. Reel Tight remakes the classic Earth, Wind and Fire hit "Reasons" and gives it an updated but true-to-the-original twist.
Other tracks include "Sittin In The Club," which features New Edition and BBD member Ronnie DeVoe, "Don't Wake Me" with a rap by Warren G, and the gospel-inspired tune "Thank You Lord."
A fan for over 15 years.......2000-09-29
I hated to give Reel Tight a less that perfect score. But, I had to. Unfortunately, the best album, in my opinion, was the one they recorded in Reggie's basement back in 1992. It was a culmination of rearrangements of BoysIIMen singles. This was a replication of four-part stacking done impecablly. Too bad they never released it. I am just glad the world has awakened and resurrected to such a harmonic overture entitled,"Back to the Reel" Who was the canadian dunce that said Next, or 112, or whoever could hold a candle to these distinguished palates? If you see this, sir, I hope you realize you stand alone in this sight.
Not as good as Jodeci, Dru Hill etc.......1999-12-23
For tru heads, this Group seems unimaginative and a rip off of the original bad boys of R&B, Jodeci. While smooth and taletned, this group poses no threat to take the throne from, groups like Next and Dru Hill. Not a must have but a good spin.
A great C.D!!!!!!!!!.......1999-09-20
This is absolutely my favorite C.D.!! These guys harmonize perfectly!! My favorite songs are Lady and Reasons. I have practically worn this C.D. out!!! I also love the fact that they're fellow Tennesseeans!!
(Do You) Wanna Ride, No More Pain. . . the two sides of Love.......1999-06-10
I first heard Reel Tight on their single (Do You) Wanna Ride, and it blew me away! These boys can sing about anything from making love to broken hearts, and they CAN sing! This CD is a requirement for anyone who likes Boyz II Men, Men of Vizion, BLACKStreet and especially Dru Hill; any of the soft swooners that make r&b music kick ass and take numbers. It's got alot of slow songs, but it's fast songs, like (Do You) Wanna Ride with Cam'ron (remix) makes you bounce. Chalk this one up on your 'must have' list.

Roger Clyne- Folk Hero.......2002-01-12
Roger Clyne is our Bob Dylan.
Big bold statement, you say? Insupportable, you mutter? I, however, contend that if Roger Clyne had the inclination to live in NYC and the advantage of Dylan's booming scene, we'd be hearing much more from this supremely talented singer/songwriter. Instead, CLyne prefers to stick close to his native Arizona. While that's bad news for his fans in the northeast, one can't complain too much when the man writes such bewilderingly great songs. Nearly every song on the live "Real to Reel" is a polished pop/country gem (With one regrettable selection- "Beautiful Disaster", a supposed homage to Springsteen's "Born to Run", just sounds as though Clyne ripped off The Boss to lesser effect)
Reading the lyrics to the disc's best track ("Green and Dumb") reveals Clyne's gift for phrasing and imagery: "I haunt her house from the outside; watch her bake cornbread and talk on the phone. THe wireless on the inside sings a sad, sweet song. A mute, moonlit statue am I..She waltzes alone."
Veering from the melancholy to the funny and almost gleefully bizarre, Clyne's newest material builds on everything he learned from his time with The Refreshments, and then adds a healthy layer of dirt and grit to the proceedings. A great album.
donde esta los refrescos?.......2001-07-17
Roger Clyne still knows how to give up the goods, even with the demise of the late, great Refreshments and all the goodness they provided. Gone are so-great-it'll-make-you-cry guitarist Brian Blush and Buddy the bassist, but the new guys certainly hold their own on a great mix of country-mex, heartfelt and pretty damn funny tunes.
The live format is great, with just enough between song banter and crowd noise (especially during "tell yer momma") to make it more interesting than a studio version. Great version of "Mekong" off the original, limited run Wheelie disc [note to Refreshments fans: give Fizzy Fuzzy away and track down a copy of the real McCoy]and a livlier version of "Horses", off the underappreciated Bottle & Fresh Horses album.
If you still wish the Refreshments hadn't headed south of the border, get this one. It won't light quite the same fire under your enchilada, but some spicy sauce is always better than none.
Gracias.

the raw powerful vocals are acompanied by one of the best alt-country bands that has ever been assembled. the songwriting is original and extremely creative. while a few songs on the album are a bit eccentric and comical, it is in a good way. i cant believe a major record label hasnt signed this band!! they are one of the best i have heard in a long time, and i hope the world gets a chance to hear their music. they will probably be as blown away as i am :)
