Customer Reviews:
They were the Greatest!.......2007-05-22
Loved this Album! The first disc has on it some of the best songs they ever recorded! Songs like "Temptation" and "Crying in the Rain" highlight how great Don's voice was at this time! He could sing anything and make it his! Not to discount Phil's "greatest-of-all-time" Harmonizing!! No one has ever been able to duplicate these wonderful guys! It was a pity when they split up, they just didn't sound as good apart. I think they needed each other to bolster one anothers talent. i will probably play this first side until it wears out! Can't get enough of it!! I'm a True Fan Forever! Since I was about 12 yrs old. Jeanie
Walk Right Back-The Everly Brothers.......2007-05-12
This CD is great. It has some songs on it that are hard to find.
Compared to nothing...this is just great music.......2006-06-08
No doubt, the material the Everlys cut for Cadence is classic stuff...it defined the era in which it was released, and remains eminently listenable today; great songs, great voices, great arrangements, all state of the art in the late 50s.
Everyone is always quick to compare the Warner Brothers material to the Cadence material...and find the WB stuff lacking. That is a gross injustice. Simply stated, the Every Brothers were considered passe' in the wake of the British Invasion, just like Roy Orbison, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and a host of other 50s artists. Even King Elvis did not fare that well then. Many of the songs, performances and arrangements contained in this collection WERE hits, many more of them would have been hits had they been released by a "hot commodity".
Most of this material is just very, very good. To compare it to the Cadence material is silly and unfair; the times they were a'changin'. Honestly, this holds up very well when compared to the Candence sides. For the most part, they are great songs, well-arranged and (of course) well-sung. Overall, I think the Rhino 4-CD box covers this period a bit better; better song selection and better sound, but this is still a great collection and a great buy. Long live the Everly Brothers!
There's Better Than This.......2006-05-02
The Everly Brothers are an institution and are deservedly one of the greatest talents, duo or otherwise, of the last century. It would be such a travesty if the uninitiated judged these wonderful singers based upon this album alone. While there may a few keepers on this album, it's mostly stuff that I wouldn't want to hear more than once. To appreciate the wonderful music of the Everlys, buy the Cadence album.
Lots of Great Music.......2005-03-05
This Cd is a must for anyone who loves the Evwerly Brothers. All their hits are here, including Gone Gone Gone which I loved when I was a teenager. I would put it on my dad's old RCA floor model Hi-Fi which had a massive bass speaker. I would turn up the volume and the windows would rattle in the house.
This album also contains some filler which get a little irritating unless you are a dedicated Everly Brother fan.
The sound quality is excellent and the packaging is good.
I think this is a pretty good buy.

Album Description
Full title, 'Anthology 1969-91 Come On Down To Texas For A While'. Texan troubadour Steven Fromholz has carved out a highly regarded career of 35 years standing, from the 'pure western folk music' of his groundbreaking & enduring 1969 debut with Frummox, From Here to There, to country-folk albums on his own Felicity label. In between he's played with Willie Nelson, Stephen Stills, Doug Dillard, Buddy Emmons, Reggie Young etc. Raven's comprehensive 22-track, 75-minute Anthology 1969-1991 draws together for the first time his best known songs, from the famed 'Texas Trilogy' to 'Come On Down To Texas' & the Willie Nelson-sung US country hit single 'I'd Have to be Crazy' (added as a bonus track). Replete with 16-page color booklet boasting detailed liner notes.

Customer Reviews:
If Your Main Interest is Texas Trilogy..........2004-05-22
This is a nice collection of Fromholz's work, but the sound quality is barely ok. If you are primarily interested in "Texas Trilogy," which has become something of a legend, I would recommend going for the book "Texas Trilogy : Life in a Small Texas Town" by Craig Hillis and photographer Bruce Jordan, which is a fine book in its own right and includes a CD of the song digitally re-mastered from the original tapes. And yup, I own both, and the version that comes with the book sounds much better.
Disappointment.......2003-09-24
I don't know enough about this album's genre to be as insightful as some of the other reviews, so I will just lay it on the line: I was really disappointed by these songs. I thought they sounded quite dated, almost cheesey and kitschy. I bought the album because it was compared to that of Willis Alan Ramsey whose cd I have darn near worn out from overplay. It was also compared to Guy Clark who I really enjoy. But I find their songs' lyrics have made the journey over the past 30 years intact. Fromholz's by comparison seem gimmicky. Songs such as "Everybody's Goin' on the Road" and "Sweet Janey" are more silly than insightful.
One positive thing I can say about the album is that you get to trace some of the influences of modern acts such as Lyle Lovett through the song "Bears."
A Damn Shame..........2001-11-20
...that I had to order a CD all the way from Australia in order to get a great collection of Steve Fromholz music. The man was born and raised not 20 minutes from the house I grew up in and now I live in Austin TX. There are CDs available a little closer to home, but this is a great collection of one of the best singer/songwriters ever to come from TX, and definitely the best to ever reside in Bosque County. Texas Trilogy is the best song ever written about TX.
Long Overdue.......2001-08-31
This album contains the best of Steve's work from the first album until today. It includes rare cuts like 'Texas Trilogy' from the Frummox album. For those of us who grew up on Steve's albums, this is a homecoming. For those that missed the Texas music scene in the 70's, this will be a treat. The only thing that's missing is 'Dear Darcy', written for his daughter.

Album Description
Rare recordings buttressed by unreleased jams from Willie Feaster's own tape stash! Includes previously unpublished photos from Feaster's collection and comprehensive liner notes by Dan Nishimoto that include Feaster's most in-depth interview. Willie Feaster and the Mighty Magnificents were one of metropolitan New York's premier working bands during the funky seventies. The pride of Jamaica, Queens, they crossed the same paths as Newark's Kool & The Gang and Harlem's Flame n' King. While the Magnificents had a hit with "Funky 8 Corners" on All Platinum (the label that preceded Sugar Hill), Feaster recorded a fair amount of material for Al Brown and his own Smog City Records. Includes the best cuts from Smog City Records, including the hip Latin rhythms of "Willie's Boogaloo" and the Kool & The Gang-inspired horn charts of "Voices (Calling So Loud)". Also features underground funk gem "Whacha Want Us to Do," a Soul Train-inspired collaboration with the Dynamic Concepts.
