As these two boys from Brisbane, Australia, know, it doesn't hurt to be endorsed by Rosie O'Donnell. When the Queen of Nice sang the words to "I Want You" and the praises of the duo behind it, the song catapulted up the charts. Largely ignored by the serious music press, Savage Garden have cultivated a vast fan base on the strength of their music--and airplay--alone. As formulaic as it may appear, the ballad "Truly Madly Deeply" was lodged at No. 1 for week after week for a reason--it's damn catchy and a welcome reprieve from overdone rock ballads. Lead singer Darren Hayes lends the same yearning vocal style to the third--and best--single from the album, "To the Moon & Back," a slice of synth-pop genius that culminates in a dramatic crescendo of strings, courtesy of coleader Daniel Jones. --Rebecca Wallwork

Music to love to.......2007-05-13
Nostalgia got me one afternoon and I had to listen to the songs I use to listen to when I was younger. I used to swoon at the sound of Darren Hayes' voice and suddenly craved that sound again. I'd given my CD to a friend as a gift though, so I had to buy it again. I'm so glad I did.
The debut album of Savage Garden is by far their best. From "I Want You", a great song to dance to, to "Tears of Pearls" a song that may pull on your heart strings. They cover every emotion and pull some new ones from you.
If you haven't heard this CD yet, you need to.
best band ever.......2006-10-03
I love both albums from Savage Garden. They are definitely my favourite group ever. Now I can only listen to their songs. I don't think I could go back to *NSYNC or Backstreet Boys. Savage Garden were always on the radio in Australia (I'm from Australia) and on TV. I think Daniel Jones is so talented (and HOT!!) and Darren Hayes' voice is just so amazing. I love how their songs have a deep meaning and are not just some jingle. My absolute favourite song from this album is "To The Moon And Back" because it's so catchy and my other favourites are "Break Me Shake Me" "I Want You" "Truly Madly Deeply" and "Santa Monica". Put all their albums in your shopping cart NOW!!!
awesome band.......2006-10-03
i think Savage Garden are the best band ever. I would rather listen to them than Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC anyday. Daniel Jones is so hot and can play every instrument imaginable... and Darren Hayes' voice is heaven.
Yes........2006-04-09
Savage Garden is just about the greatest pop band ever, and that's all you need to know. They are a masterpiece.
HIGH SCHOOL ALBUM.......2006-02-02
This band could have been so MEGABIG right now if they hadn't disbanded. The lead singer Darren has a voice that is hauntingly angelic and the songs they sang was a mix of alternative/r&b/pop/rock/dance...such a great group. I bought this CD because I had heard three of their singles and they all were phenomenal. Buy this CD if you must because it is definitely not a bore. It is great for those high school events like the Senior Prom (Truly Madly Deeply and Universe), the Halloween dance (To the Moon and Back, I Want You, Carry On Dancing), and your first date and kiss (Santa Monica), hee-hee.
I miss this group. I wish that they could have stayed together for long because their second album was also a total smash like this one. Something about Darren's vocals, the instruments, their look, the lyrics, and their aura is compelling. Even now that I am older and experienced, I would slip into nostalgia and think about the good ol' days when music wasn't so angry and competitive and recyclable. Buy this CD because it is the debut of the ones that may have influenced Hoobastank, Coldplay, and Maroon 5. Cheerios!

While most of their teen peers were embracing nascent '70s U.K. punk with all the snotty 'tude they could muster, Sheffield's Def Leppard instead infused then-moribund metal with bracing pop smarts. Having long since sold a gazillion or two records with that formula, the '80s superstars pay homage to the eclectic, chart-savvy tastes that spawned it on this collection of covers, recharging their contemporary fortunes a bit in the bargain. Their takes on Me Decade standards like The Faces' "Stay With Me," Badfinger's "No Matter What," and T Rex's "20th Century Boy" may be arguably too faithful, right down to Joe Elliot's often dead-on vocal chameleon routine. But elsewhere they perform some admirable pop archaeology, imparting a darker edge to David Essex's spooky "Rock On" and pumping Blondie's "Hanging on the Telephone," one-hit-wonder John Kongos's riff-fest "He's Gonna Step On You Again," and Sweet's "Hell Raiser" full of patent Lep energy. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
On their highly anticipated new album, Def Leppard have created a heartfelt and hard rocking tribute to their musical heroes of the late 60's and 70's - the Kinks, Badfinger, T. Rex, David Bowie, Sweet, Roxy Music, Mott the Hoople, Free, Faces, and Thin Lizzy. Recording essential versions of the music that influenced their youth, the band have brilliantly merged the 'Now with the 'Then' to create a buzz that can only be summed up in one word: YEAH!

Rock Gods did it once again!.......2007-07-08
Anything Def Leppard touches turns to gold.
Joe Elliot's vocals are over the top on this cd. The melodic guitars from Phil and Viv have a delightful cutting edge. Sav on Bass... What more could I say? He is a genius! Rick allen is a God himself.
Their vocal styles blend and carry each tune to higher lofts than ever before imagined. What I found most stunning.... Phil's voice on lead vocals for "Stay with me". Even my 14 year loves this CD! it rates up there with her fixation of My Chemical Romance.
I have yet to hear a bad Def Leppard song! Each cover tune they do, They leppardize it!
A loyal Leppard Fan from 1981!!!!
Another Turkey from Def Leppard.......2007-06-26
1.5 stars
In theory, a Def Leppard album covering classic songs from the 1970s should be great, in reality; however, it is not so great.
After a string a mediocre to horrible albums that went nowhere (with the exception of 1996's underrated "Slang") Def Leppard shows the world their roots--where they came from and what influenced them with their covers albums "Yeah!" (2006).
You can't argue with the band's choices--Blondie, Bowie, T-Rex, ELO, Roxy Music, etc. It's all good stuff. The problem with "Yeah!" isn't a lack of good songs; rather the problem lies with Def Leppard themselves and their execution of the songs.
Def Leppard used to be a great band, no denying that. Their first four albums, specifically "High N' Dry" (1982) and "Pyromania" (1983) are two of the greatest hard-rock albums of the 1980s. That said, Def Leppard have sucked for years. "Slang" and the "Retroactive" (1993) compilation album aside, everything the band has released since the death of Steve Clarke has ranged from mediocre (1992's Adrenalize, 1999's "Euphoria") to downright horrid (2002's atrocious "X"). In short, it's been a long time since Def Leppard knew how to rock and they have long since lost their balls. So even when Def Leppard tries to cover rocking songs, they can't, they just don't know how.
If Def Leppard had released the same collection of songs on a covers album twenty-five years ago, (when they had Pete Willis and Steve Clarke on guitar) it would have been great. Now, however, it just sounds weak. As previously noted, the band no longer has any balls; the performance of the songs on this album is too smooth, with no sense of urgency, no teeth, no rock n' roll spirit. Most of the time the songs sound either forced, i.e., Sweet's "Hell Raiser" or too sugary, i.e., The Kinks "Waterloo Sunset." This album sounds like a bunch of over-the-hill rockers trying to sound vigorous and it just doesn't work. "Yeah!" is an album for soccer moms and Bryan Adams fans, not for people who wanna rock.
There are some decent moments on "Yeah!" Blondie's "Hanging on the Telephone," ELO's "10538 Overture" and Badfinger's "No Matter What" aren't bad, although not as good as the originals. Everything else on this album is totally lame.
FINALLY, a complete review of .......2007-05-09
OK, first off, been a fan of the Leps since I was 15 and "Pyromania" was first released and "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" was all over MTV...twas 1983 and my impressionable mind was molded by the Leps music, just like what happened to the Leps themselves with the bands and who's songs the Leps cover all over "Yeah!!"
This record makes a whole lot of sense and squashes many things that people mistakenly think the Leps are, musically. NWOBHM or pop-metal??!!?? BAH!!
Try glam-influenced powerpop, or a British, glam-influenced Cheap Trick, and you're on target. And honestly, I think it's a mistake that the Leps are constantly on nostalgic summer package tours with horrible corporate rock bands like Journey...shoot me, Journey fans, I don't care, your band and taste is terrible!!! Same with KISS!!! If anything, the Leps should play with musically-compatible bands like Cheap Trick, or newer Britpop bands like the Arctic Monkeys or the Kaiser Chiefs or great new Scottish bands like the View or the Fratellis, to show these younger bands and fans they are still vital...not just for their parents' generation. Gosh, I feel old.
Anyhoo, about the Leps' recent covers album, "Yeah!!!", from 2006, it's possibly the best covers album in recent memory, if not EVER. It's totally fun, not obvious, has many of my fave bands and shows the band's impeccable taste and ability to rock out and have a good time...it probably made the band feel like kids again. The album artwork and nods to the classics is a nice fun touch...the liner notes are informative and infectiously written by Phil and Joe, both obviously music connosseurs and collectors. The intros by Sav and Viv are cool as well.
Now, there are 4 different versions of the album...the regular 14-tracker, the BestBuy version with 2 bonus tracks, the Target edition with 2 completely DIFFERENT bonus tracks, and the Japanese edition has 2 bonus tracks. PLUS Walmart had a separately-sold companion bonus DISC with 8 more tracks (5 additional covers and 3 interviews) which put the whole project into proper perspective. The Japanese disc has only 2 of these Walmart tracks as bonuses. Here's my take on the whole kitten caboodle:
REGULAR ALBUM:
1- "20th Century Boy"...the T-Rex song, an amazing song and great energetic cover...fits the Leps to a T.
2- "Rock On"...the David Essex song, also covered by Michael Damian (a #1 hit in the US but it was lame) and Toni Basil!?!?...her version was cool and on the US version of "Word Of Mouth" following "Mickey"...the Leps cover beats them all...love the way the song kicks in, AC/DC-style.
3- "Hanging On The Telephone"...the 1976 Nerves powerpop classic popularized by Blondie...surprisingly awesome.
4- "Waterloo Sunset"...the 1960s Kinks classic, originally placed on the Leps 2CD import "Best Of", in a better home here on "Yeah!!", great version that grows on you.
5- "Hell Raiser"...the Sweet classic...I know the Leps have cited Sweet as an influence, and they give a kicking rendition here...the funny, campy Steve Priest vocal lines are done here by, NOT Joe Elliot, but guest Justin Hawkins, former lead singer/songwriter of campy Brit hardrockers the Darkness, to fine fun effect...
6- "10538 Overture"...ELO's debut single, when Roy Wood was in the band, after the Move split up...GREAT and a surprisingly fitting choice for the Leps...great guitar work, and features guests on strings, the Stepaside Symphonia...
7- "Street Life"...the 1973 Roxy Music classic...shows the Leps are NOT a pop metal band, but a glam-influenced powerpop band, more taken by punk and new wave, as 1970s UK glam was the precursor to this inferior style of rock, and the Leps do some nice noise on their guitars...LOVE this song...
8- "Drive-In Saturday"...the obscure-in-the-US, HUGE-in-the-UK David Bowie classic from 1973's "Aladdin Sane"...see my take on previous song by Roxy Music.
9- "Little Bit Of Love"...the Free song, a big surprise for me, as I am NOT a Paul Rodgers/Bad Company fan at all...I think BC was probably the most overrated band of them all, really boring actually. Free, on the other hand, I have not heard much of, besides "All Right Now", which was decent but played out, yet still better than all of Bad Company combined. Perhaps, Paul Rodgers sounded great in this band, I don't know, but this song is actually a pretty good pop tune...I may have to investigate Free's catalogue now.
10- "The Golden Age Of Rock 'N' Roll"...the Mott The Hoople classic...probably my fave track on all of "Yeah!!"...just amazing, what rock & roll is all about...Ian Hunter is just swell, as a rock & roller, as a songwriter and as a person...I had the opportunity to see Ian live recently and he blew me away...pictures I took, I gave doubles to Joe himself when I met him at the aftershow party for the NYC "X" club gig at Irving Plaza, now the Fillmore, because I knew Ian was Joe's hero. Ian does the intro here...very cool...and features guests like Joe's wife on BV's, Viv's bro on honking sax and Canadian singer/songwriter Emm Gryner on BVs and piano...just awesome...and I can hear the Sex Pistols influence here too, as is mentioned in the liner notes.
11- "No Matter What"...the Badfinger powerpop classic...arguably the first ever true powerpop song, let alone hit, and yeah, the Leps' version is almost identical, which proves that the Leps are, at heart, a powerpop band, not a metal/pop metal band. Love this remix better than the version on the US 2CD "Rock Of Ages" collection...fits better here too, as this is, after all, an album of covers.
12- "He's Gonna Step On You Again"...the John Kongos classic...honestly, I thought I was the only one who knew who John Kongos was!!! I had the original album with this song, and "Tokoloshe Man", on it...both songs were covered by UK rave rockers Happy Mondays in the early 90s...the band recently reunited as well...turns out the Leps, espesh Joe, were big fans as well...possibly because of the "jungle drums"...great track.
13- "Don't Believe A Word"...the Thin Lizzy song...see my entry for the Sweet cover...I knew Phil Lynott was a big influence on the Leps as well, and this is a great song...I'm also happy they didn't do one of the obvious songs either...here or on the whole album really...
14- "Stay With Me"...the Faces song...featuring PHIL on lead vocals and Joe on Ian McLagen-ish keyboards...it kicks arse, nuff said...the Faces were the only time Rod Stewart was any good, and I do agree with Joe that "Pool Hall Richard" was their best song.
Now, the bonus tracks:
Target's CD:
15- "Action" (Live, 2005)...the Sweet song, and the studio version was a B-side and on 1993's "Retroactive" compilation...GREAT live version with lots of exuberant energy...being it's a live track, not studio, nothing has been recycled, and it's from the recent 2005 US Rock Of Ages tour.
16- "When I'm Dead And Gone"...an obscure 1970 UK hit by British duo McGUINNESS FLINT, written by Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle. Before getting this CD, I had never heard this song or of the act before, but this cover is totally charming, a memorable and melodic, scruffy, acoustic, singalong, off-the-cuff track...a true gem with no pretentions whatsoever.
BestBuy's CD:
17- "No Matter What" (Live, 2005)...a cool live take of the Badfinger classic, probably from the same show, definitely the same 2005 US tour as the Leps cover of "Action".
18- "Winter Song"...another 1970 obscurity by UK band LINDISFARNE...like the McGuinness Flint song, I had never heard of this either, but it's equally as good, and makes me want to investigate further. The song is more reflective and is a moving Christmas-y type of song, not unlike something Cat Stevens would do...done acoustic style by the Leps...
WalMart CD:
19- "American Girl"...the Tom Petty classic...proves again how the Leps are more powerpop than metal...Joe sounds a bit like Tom here as well, and his jangly Byrds-y style fits the Leps much better than you would think...one of 2 bonus tracks on the Japanese edition of "Yeah!!"...
20- Backstage Interview #1...the band talks about the 2005 tour and their fanbase evolving & getting older.
21- "Search & Destroy"...the Iggy & The Stooges dangerous punk prototype from 1973's Bowie-produced landmark "Raw Power" album...with PHIL singing lead and playing all instruments...just proves that Phil comes from the punk world, whilst the rest of the Leps were from the glam and powerpop world...this track sounds like the Stooges themselves and Phil like Iggy that it's uncanny...it sounds vital and dangerous...this track is the second of 2 bonus tracks on the Japanese "Yeah!!"...
22- Backstage Interview #2...sums up the purpose of "Yeah!!", their inspirations, the rules for picking the tracks, and it shows how the Leps are more glam/powerpop than pop-metal...
23- "Space Oddity"...the second Bowie cover, done completely by Joe...shows how talented he really is as a 1-man band...doesn't sound far from the original at all, from the playing and arrangement to the atmosphere...pretty remarkable actually...
24- Backstage Interview #3...a conclusion to a swell interview...
25- "Dear Friends"...an obscure Queen song written by Brian May (whom I met in JFK airport in 2003, BTW, totally nice gracious guy), from Queen's 1974 debut album...sung and played completely by bassist Rick Savage...shows how talented and overlooked he is in the Def Leppard canon...the guy's a great singer in his own right and a talented multi-instrumentalist as well...who knew???
26- "Heartbeat"...an obscure 1974 song by [...] UK glamster JOBRIATH BOONE, who was always referred to as a poor man's David Bowie. Apparently, Morrissey was a huge Joby fan, that he reissued an album (or a compilation, I'm not sure) called "Jobraith" on his reactivated Attack label through Sanctuary. The guy died of AIDS in 1993 in NYC, depressed and broke...maybe he will get his due, I'm not sure, but Joe was apparently a fan...enough that he covered "Heartbeat", playing fairground organ and backed by Dave Browne on piano and Ronan McHugh on cellos...this cover is quite moving, maybe moreso that Joby died of AIDS...
Anyhoo, overall, possibly the best covers album ever recorded...now that Def Leppard got this long-gestating album out of their system...they've been wanting to do a covers album or their take on Bowie's "Pin-Ups"...since they got a record deal back in 1979, or at least Joe did...now, they can do a kickbutt album of new Lep originals...I heard the next album will be sort-of like "Back In Black"...
I think the band is revitalized...just like the Smithereens are after doing their recent cover album of the Beatles debut, "Meet The Smithereens"...that's what covers albums actually do when done right...they refresh the band and remind them of why they became a band in the first place...that's what happened with Def Leppard and "Yeah!!", but what makes this covers album better than most is that it's not just a footnote curio...it's a fun, rocking record that will be listened to many times in the future, as it stands up against the rest of Def Leppard's catalogue...
It will also remind people of what rock & roll is all about, period.
'Nuff said, I'm done.
Not Rockin.......2007-03-10
Man, i was disappointed! Ive been a Lep fan for ages, i got all their cd's, and have to say this is their worst! This album should of been an addition to their new release! Then it would be okay, but for a new album? no way, this sucks, this aint def leppard.
proves that they still know how to rock.......2007-02-15
The Good
If you heard Def Leppard perform "20th Century Boy" (T.Rex) on VH1 Rock Honors then you were probably a little turned off by it. I'm happy to report that the studio version of the track is much better and have the group sounding like their days of old. With "Rock On," (David Essex) the band keeps the subtlety and trippy-ness of the original in tact. Toward the end of the track Leppard come with full guns blazing and a solo section that will have you reaching for your six-string air guitar. "Hanging on the Telephone" (Blondie) is a nice mix of melody, harmony, and just the right amount of guitar fuzz.
"Hell Raiser" (Sweet) has a guitar riff pattern that would make Angus Young proud. Joe Elliot managed to muster up the passion and energy that was missing from the group's last studio album. "10538 Overture" (Electric Light Orchestra) captures the sound of the 70s British rock scene perfectly, while adding just a bit of modern technology. "The Golden Age of Rock `N' Roll" (Mott the Hoople) uses a 50s style vocal intro that transforms into a rockabilly/70s fuzz hybrid. "No Matter What" (Badfinger) is one of those songs that have been remade quite a few times, but Leppard's version is just as melodic as and a little peppier than the original.
The Bad
It's not very difficult to mess up other artists songs (especially if they had some moderate success). Fans probably want more new material after getting a double disc hits package last year.
The Verdict
Def Leppard proves that they still know how to rock with Yeah! (I think we all forgot after Slang and X). It's better than your average covers album because the song selection is rather diverse.

not thrilled with the album.......2007-01-03
My husband and I are huge Savage Garden fans. We were both disappointed with this album. It seems like towards the end of the CD they were just trying to fill in space. It is ashame because there were so many other wonderful songs they created that did not appear on the album. I would reccomend buying the original CD's separately, get more for your money that way.
Pretty good, but not a Best of.......2006-12-06
I have to agree that this could have been better due to certain track choices. And instead of having the dvd they could have input another cd and had a complete library of Savage Garden songs including all the B-sides the two Darren Hayes songs on this cd and the never released in America song "Mine" which I have to say is one of their best.
All in all I don't regret getting it, but it could have better.

after 6 years apart, the best of savage garden cd has finally been released & i am happy to have a copy of my own. the album definetly does not disappoint except songs such as "gunning down romance", "two beds & a coffee machine", "i don't know you anymore", "carry on dancing", "universe" and "mine" which were great songs could have been on there. the two songs by darren hayes were awesome and better than ever. my fav. song would have to be "i knew i loved you". Fantastic album overall

This is a fantastic collection of SG's past albums. I highly recommend it for the fans and those who are simply curious. A must have!
If only it had Tears of Pearls!!!.......2006-03-16
Savage Garden is, without a doubt, a band that left behind music that has lived on though they split up. And this is one of the first times I find such a complete compilation for any artist... though that's easy to accomplish when you only have two discs under your sleeve.
Nevertheless, they were both two great discs and the best of them has been brought over to these new album, spotless... the only thing that holds me back from giving this a 5 rating, is the fact that it misses my favorite Savage Garden song: Tears of Pearls, from the first record...
Still, it's forgivable: even though the song was good, it wasn't that much of a hit as other that are included...
A must have if you don't have the originals and are interested in Savage Garden music.

Savage Garden's songs are of innocence and urgency. On the Australian pop duo's second album, Affirmation, love is either a broken thing or a newly exploding one, passion and obsession taking over after a spin on the dance floor. At the same time, when Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones proclaim that they want to "live like animals," they're not planning anything too raw, too Reznorish: they just want that childlike lack of guile. This approach, taken with a total lack of irony and with large doses of appealing melodicism, led to multiplatinum sales for the act's debut, and there's no reason to think that Affirmation won't be similarly accepted. Sometimes a bit too goodhearted for its own good--the title track's wide-eyed sentiments might make even Stuart Smalley smirk--the disc's best moments are hard to dislike when taken on their own terms. --Rickey Wright

Savage Garden Music.......2007-07-04
The CD Affirmation is as good as the reviews I read. I am very glad I purchased it. I really did not realize how many good songs were on it.
Savage Garden at their best....and their last.......2007-06-01
This is such a great album. There's not one dud song on it. The only one that doesn't stand up as strongly as the others is Gunning Down Romance, but all the other tracks could easily have been released as singles. Savage Garden were the best thing to come out of Australia in a while. It's so sad they broke up after only two albums. They could've gone on to do so much more. Unfortunately Darren Hayes's solo efforts never came up to par although I was hoping that he would be the 'continuance' of Savage Garden. The songs are just bland pop, even though he does have a great voice. It would seem he needs Daniel to write a good song. Plus I'm still peeved at Darren for being gay. How dare he mess with our psyches making us think he liked girls! But anyway, I digress...Affirmation is pop at its best.
the last album..........2006-10-03
This album is nearly as good as their first but nothing will beat their debut. My absolute favourites are "Affirmation" coz it's catchy and I LOVE Darren's voice in this; he sounds so good, "Crash and Burn" A slow, sad song but the lyrics are beautiful, "Hold Me" A pop song, catchy and upbeat. I like the others as well like "I Knew I Loved You" (like "Truly, Madly, Deeply") "Chained to You" catchy and upbeat and "The Best Thing", which is a lot like "Chained to You" Also, Daniel is really good in this album, he can play every instrument beautifully. Plus he's hot!
Nice But Sort of Dull..........2006-07-11
I fell in love with Savage Garden's debut a long time back, and still have the c.d. to this day. I really enjoyed their sound and the beautiful songs they made including To The Moon and Back and Carry on Dancing.
I heard a little while ago Crash and Burn and I Knew I Loved You off their sophmore album on the radio and always wanted to get around to buying it. I finally found it at a bargin store and decided it was none better time to finally get it. I bought the album just on the love I held for their debut album.
Well the album is a bit of a disappointment. It does not hold the same power as their debut, nor as many memorable songs. The whole album Affirmation gives off a very "meh" kind of feeling for me. A lot of the songs sound nice to listen to, but there's not a lot there to really be exicted about.
The strongest songs on here are I Knew I Loved You, Crash and Burn, The Lover After Me, The Best Thing, and You can Still be Free (which is probably the most amazing song on here). Affirmation can get kind of annoying but it sounds all right. Those are the songs I usually turn to when I put this album in. A lot of the other songs on this album I do not play nearly as much- although I don't hate any of the songs. They just are sort of boring compared to the ones I mentioned.
When I recommend Savage Garden to anyone though, I do recommend their debut instead.
3.5/ 5
Lovely........2006-04-09
Amazing stuff, right here. Affirmation is just as wonderful and catchy as their first album. Hooray for Savage Garden.

Buy this for one song.......2006-08-07
I don't get it! This guy's a guitar player but this is hardly a guitarnut work. Too much synthesizer and fake drums.
With the exception of the Kill Bill song (which is done 3 times here!) there is nothing worth repeated listening. The Immigrant Song cover is interesting but, in reality, it is a techno version of an otherwise classic song.
This scd is like movie soundtrack music. If you are a rock and roller or if you are looking for music similar to the Kill Bill song, you will be misled.
The artist is a guitar player using his musicianship to play very unguitar sounding music. This is for the dance music crowd!
Hotei Tomoyasu.......2006-03-03
Hotei Tomoyasu was a member of Boowy which was the most
famous japanese rock and roll band.
Himuro Kyousuke was the leader of Boowy.
Hotei mainly wrote musics of Boowy.
He is very tall man and good at electric guitar(Search at YouTube
if you have an interest).
He played his electric guitar music at Olympic opening before.
He wrote one of musics used in "Kill Bill".
Do you know that?
Electric Samurai.......2006-02-17
Very Good guitar with an Euro-Japanese ultra modern mix.
Way cool music. I actually use it to develop tempo for my golf swing...particularly the Kill Bill arrangement for "Without Honor or Humanity."
Holy crap this rocks!.......2005-12-20
This is one of the few albums where the term 'bad-ass' just isn't enough. This album is well worth it's cost for the title song along (Battle Without Honor Or Humanity (Kill-Bill theme)), except every song is nearly as good!
Imagine Rob Zombie doing the Immigrant Song. Yes. Seriously.
Great music - but watch out for the malware.......2005-11-18
Others have already commented on the music adequately, but there's something else on this album that you need to know about.
This is one of the now infamous Sony Rootkit albums. If you stick it in a PC it will attempt to autorun an installation which will hide many files from users and will add code that intercepts certain system calls and loads down the machine. Even worse the rootkit has been exploited by virus writers.
As of mid November 2005 (this week) Microsoft has declared this rootkit to be Malware and their anti spyware software will remove it whenever it encounters it.
There is a very small warning on the back of the box, a second warning says that on normal players, which can't install their malicious software, the disk may not play. Search for Sony, BMG and Malware to confirm the nature of this exploit.

This cd really disses Hulk Hogan, and makes him look like a fool. Gotta give props to Mach, he really came through on this album...LOL
hahahah are you kidding me?.......2007-03-13
hahahhaha. The Hogan diss track alone is worth 10 stars. Don't take the dude's lyrics and skills seriously. what where you expecting? imagine his voice ...now rapping.... exactly. this is entertainment. treat and review as it.
This guy is a white wrestler in his 50's This is not a bad album. If you say so, GIT OUTTA HERE! Oooh Yeah!!.......2007-03-05
Sorry, but say what you want, but you are just not objective if you think this album is terrible. Macho Man is an old white guy, and a great entertainer/personality-- SNAP INTO IT! He is in his fifties, for Chrissakes! How many white guys cut a debut rap album in their fifties? How people in general at that age? All the great rappers honed their skills on the streets over years. This guy honed his personlaity over time, obviously, but none of the big stars cut an album with no rap experience. I am sure somebody wrote or co-wrote all the lyrics and the production is obviously weak. If somebody wrote him better lyrics, it could be much better--His delivery is not awful. Not really all that different than DMX or House of Pain sometimes. Remember he is an old white guy---he played minor league baseball in the Cardinals system. He was teammates with Keith Hernandez in 1971, Heranadez retired years ago--all he's done is a few eps of Seinfeld and some announcing. Dig it!
greatest album ever.......2006-08-16
This album was not created by a mere mortal. This album was made by God himself, and handed down to the greatest rapper of our time, Randy Savage. Macho Man shows range that the written word just doesnt do justice. If this album doesnt go platinum 10 times over than the greatest tragedy of our generation has occured. Move over Sgt. Pepper, the greatest album ever is ready to take its throne.

A classic second-in-command rocker in the tradition of Keith Richards and Johnny Thunders, Little Steven has also made a mark apart from his erstwhile boss, the Boss. The man also known as Miami Steve Van Zandt had a major hand in Southside Johnny's bar-band masterwork Hearts of Stone, was the linchpin in 1985's Artists United Against Apartheid project, and lead his own group, the Disciples of Soul, for a time after his 1984 departure from the E Street Band. Largely out of the picture through the 1990s, Little Steven returns with a solo outing that rocks harder and is more inflamed lyrically than one might have expected from this long-AWOL warrior. Van Zandt's liner notes lay out his mission--to doff his bandana in the direction of the '60s rockers who helped shape his consciousness, from Cream to the Kinks to Jefferson Airplane. At the same time, he maintains the confrontational political stance that's been in evidence since the days of Sun City. Hence there's the title track ("Look around at the volunteered slavery") and "The Camouflage of Righteousness" ("We give you politicians and you call it a choice / We let you do the voting and you think you have a voice"). With this Savage attack, Little Steven fights the good fight and remains standing. --Steven Stolder

A Wake-Up Call For All Of Us.......2004-06-28
Little Steven's BORN AGAIN SAVAGE is a wake-up call for all of us. Like Jefferson Starship's WINDOWS OF HEAVEN, its lyrics remind us to take better care of each other and the planet, or else we all won't feel/look too good. The guitar work is a blend of Led Zeppelin, Ted Nugent, and AC/DC, the singing is passionate, and the rhythm section is propulsive. Get this CD along with MEN WITHOUT WOMEN, VOICE OF AMERICA, the late 70s/early 80s Springsteen catalog, Southside Johnny's BEST OF, SUPER HITS, I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME, THIS TIME IT'S FOR REAL, HEARTS OF STONE, and BETTER DAYS, and the 2002 Springsteen release THE RISING- preferably all at once.
Like the barrel of a gun!!!.......2001-07-16
After learning a lot about Bruce Springsteen for a "speech" at school I wanted to know who this "Miami Steven Van Zandt" was. So I asked my mother to get a few albums of him via the library. On of these albums was.."Born Again Savage". The first time I heard it I wasn't so enthousiastic, because I didn't like the noise of roaring electric guitars(LOL) yet but when I listened a little bit better, read the lyrics and heard some more CD's I fell in love with this guy...:) (Bad enough that he's 35 years older...*GRIN*). Anyway, I'm not so at home in the music of the 80's, so I can only say that this album is the same good as his other, older albums, but this one has this special guitar-bass-drums sound which makes it so rockin'. I like all his lyrics very much because they've more to tell then most of the music these days, and...they just speak a little more!!! My fav's of this album are 'Guns, drugs, and gasoline 'cause of the drums, "Flesheater" because of the lyrics('No more flesh, flesheater!") and.. actually all the other songs. Gr8 album Steven, waiting for an other one!!!!!!!!!!!
Little Steven Big Comeback!.......2000-05-06
A little bit of pop, a little bit of rock and roll, and a whole lot of electric guitars! That's all you need to make Little Steven's fifth solo album Born Again Savage! Born Again Savage was probobly "Little" Steve Van Zandt's biggest comeback! Born Again Savage is one of Steve's only album without "The Dicsiples of Soul," his early band from 1982. In stead of "The Dicsiples," Stevie has Adam Clayton, a band member from the famous pop band U2,and Jason Bonham. Born Again Savage comes in a jewel case with a book of lyricks on the inside. Just a warning, since there are only three people in the band, the music's loud!
A totally rocking album!.......2000-04-26
I first heard this album at a friend's party, and had to have it, immediately! Bought it the next morning. I've been a fan of his music for ages, and this album doesn't disappoint. I believe "Born Again Savage" - his fifth album - is the most aggressively rocking album Little Steven has made. The sounds of his youth - British rock, with some Dylan and punk mixed in, is obvious. "Born Again Savage" was the last in a series of sociopolitical projects he conceived in the '80's, with the themes being: the individual, the family, government, economics, and religion. It is perfect with Jason Bonham on drums, and with U2's Adam Clayton on bass. Just too bad he has no plans to tour and promote the album!
Nothing original here........2000-03-13
This is the last time I buy a album based on a ROLLING STONE magazine advertisement. The ad compared Little Steven to AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, if you want to hear good rock buy their albums instead. I found the lyrics sophomoric and childish at best. The only reason I gave it two stars is for Little Steven's guitar work and Jason Bonham's drumming. Don't even get me started on this guys voice. He is a good guitar player but he really needs to find a singer/songwriter to work with. Despite all this there are a few redeeming qualities to this album. My advise is try to find a used copy somewhere, as a matter of fact you can have mine.

Four years after turning the radio market upside-down with the double platinum success of Love at First Sting, the Scorpions had lost much of their sting. Maybe it was the success of the sentimental love ballad "Still Loving You" that convinced Klaus and the boys to slow their stride and soften their tune, but the release of Savage Amusement was nothing short of a disappointment to fans that craved the high-octane intensity of the group's earlier work. "Don't Stop at the Top" may have insinuated that Scorpions were still hungry and aggressive, but songs like the lackluster "Rhythm of Love" and the sappy "Passion Rules the Game" indicated that their bellies were full and they were tired. --Jon Wiederhorn
Customer Reviews:
Scorpions' last gem.......2006-09-27
I can't understand people saying this album doesn't rock. It certainly rocks and it's one of Scorpions' best!!
In my opinion, all of Scorpions albums from In trance to Savage Amusement deserve 5 stars and no less. I agree witht the other reviewer that says that it's a shame that Don't stop at the top didn't become a classic. Yeah, I'd surely love to hear it in every Scorpions' concert! When this album was released I was still in high school, and great memories come to my mind everytime I listen to it. Some people may say the lyrics are silly, I have to disagree, they rock! Don't stop at the top has certainly contributed to the philosophy of my life!
This is also one of the most solid Scorpions albums, no weak points in here, most songs are worth 5 stars (I would give 6 stars to Walking in the edge).
It's a shame that the band no longer considers this one as of their most important records, and often play in concerts only "Rhythm of love" (an excellent song, by the way). I can't believe how can they play more songs from Crazy World (a much more uneven record). Scorpions surely did experience a very serious decay during the 90's, but in this new decade they have kept on digging the hole. They have not only offered two horrible live albums (Acoustica and the Berliner Philamorniker), but the "Unbreakable" comeback (what a horrible title!! It reminds me of Michael Jackson, I don't know why), which many say it rocks and I only say it bores (Eye to eye is better than that).
Savage amusement is a lost gem that every true Scorpions fan must own!!This is an essential!!!! Scorpions at the top (before they dropped!)
Gahhhhkk!!!!!.......2006-03-26
The album isn't THAT horrible, but to me it is a shame that here is this great band that's been making all the deepest stuff over here and the rockinist stuff over there finally has everybody's attention and they turn out a platter that is such a blatent reflection of the commercial climate of the day. I like to watch the video for "When Passion Rules the Game" for yuks, but when it comes to the video "from Russia with Love and other Savage Amusements".... that's when I feel sad. Great band pushing these god awful hair metal ballads that have absolutely no artistic value. If you disagree with me consult exibit A. the videos.
Another fine album.......2005-03-16
The person below me speaks the truth about the Scorpions. This album kicked so much ass. Mainstream?? They have always been mainstream right from the start so I dunno what people are talking about when they say this album is mainstream.
The 1st 3 tracks are probably the best tracks on the album.
Don't Stop at the top is the best song and very inspiring song that motivates you for more success.
Rythm of love is another fantastic song so is passion rules the game.
There are 1 track I didn't really like which was Media Overkill
One of their last truly great albums.......2004-04-09
Savage Amusement (1988.) Scorpions' tenth album.
By the time the mid-late eighties rolled around, the Scorpions had proven themselves to be one of the finest metal bands on the face of the planet. Despite the changes of many band members early on and a number of changes to their overall sound, the band managed to survive - and remain excellent. Following the release of their 1984 album Love At First Sting, the band had a tough act to follow. It took them four years before they released their next full-length studio release, Savage Amusement. How does it measure up? Read on for my review.
Many Scorpions fans call this album lackluster. Many think it's the beginning of the end for the band. I think those fans need to have their heads examined, because this is one of the band's finest albums. Sure, the band had shifted in a much more mainstream direction, but so what? Many times, the principle of "selling out" destroys a band, but the Scorpions managed to remain excellent. Three fairly big hits emerged from this album. The first of which is Don't Stop At The Top, a classic hard power rocker. In my opinion, this is the best one of the big hits the band ever recorded. This song must be heard to be appreciated. It's a shame it doesn't make it on to more hits compilations. The slower tracks, Rhythm Of Love and Believe In Love also went on to become pretty big hits. Despite what people say, these are excellent tracks. Sure, they're not up to the quality of what the band did in the seventies and early eighties, but they get the job done. And before the album's over with, the band manages to shell out some more excellent rockers, including Passion Rules The Game, You Let It Rock... We Let It Roll, and Media Overkill. I really don't care what anyone else thinks about this album - I think it's one of their best.
So, what exactly is everyone's problem with this album? I think that some fans have a hard time accepting that the band they have known and loved for so long has "sold out" and gone mainstream, and accordingly they fail to realize that the band's sound is as fresh and fluent as it ever was. If you're a Scorpions fan, this is yet another album that will go great in your collection.
SCORPIONS WITH A LOTTA LUST!!!!!!.......2003-08-08
Let's start looking at the time this album was released...Hair Metal ruled the rock scene in the late 80's, with a lot of ridiculous hype bands raising the hit parades, and the "appice" of this "movement" was the Def Leppard's
album "Hysteria" (1987),where the band sold millions of copies of this underrated album...Scorpions' last hit was "Still Loving You"(one of the best rock ballads ever), and I think that the pression was very strong to the band repeat the success on "Savage Amusement",so...That album has the shape of Hair Metal(take a look on the back cover - they're looking like Def Leppard or Bon Jovi - ARGHHH!!!),the production points this way all the time and this album, at first, has everything to be the worst Scorpions' album...but it is NOT!!! Incredibly, they recorded the best Hair Metal album I've ever hearded!!! It's serious...Def Leppard,Bon Jovi and Poison don't have Klaus Meine
on vocals neither Rudolf Schencker on compositions and Mathias Jabs kickin' ass on solo guitars!!! Try listen without prejudice to this album (don't look at the back cover and don't watch the video clips, please), and what you'll hear is the great melody and sensibility of this GREAT rock band...An exemple: the solo in the introduction of "Believe In Love"...the shape used on the recording was pure Hair Metal, but take a "look" deeper in the melody...it's beautiful!!!Listen carefully to Klaus' vocals in "Walking On The Edge" and "Believe In Love"...it's beatiful!!!Listen to the song "Rhythm of Love"...it's a rock masterpiece!!! "Don't Stop At The Top" is a strong rock song; "Passion Rules The Game" and "Every Minute Every Day" are slow rock songs like only Scorpions know how to do; "Love On The Run" is more fast and aggressive than the other songs, with an almost-punk beat; "We Let It Rock...You Let It Roll" and "Media Overkill" are genuine Hair Metal, but yet with the talent of the band making difference(listen to Mathias Jabs' solos!!!)...That's it, guys...In my opinion, "Savage Amusement" is an underestimated classic of rock, but undoubtly a CLASSIC!!!

The best of Eurythmics.......2007-06-30
Some might like best the "Sweet Dreams" Eurythmics, featuring the frigidly-cool, androgymous detachment of a carrot-topped Annie Lennox. Some may prefer the hard rock of "Be Yourself Tonight," with its funky riffs and a more human Annie Lennox holding her own vocally against Aretha Franklin. But whichever Eurythmics CD you prefer the most, all suffer from the same problems. The hits are consistently awesome -- well-crafted songs filled to capacity with pop hooks, professional musicianship, and sung by one of the great voices of the last few decades. BUT ... the filler is wretched. Flat, lifeless (but well-played and well-sung) boring no-idea songs that go nowhere.
"Savage" is where all of the best features of the Eurythmics come together. It's basic electronic disco, but the songwriting and arrangements have never been more consistent. In other words, there is so much less filler. "You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart" may feature Annie Lennox's best vocal performance, striking the appropriate balance of the emotions of resignation, understated anger, and want. "Beethoven (I Love to Listen to)" and "Heaven" are pure fun electro-disco. The amusing "I Need a Man" adds some "rawwwwwwwk" to the disco sound. (Yes, rock and disco are not incompatible. Just listen to KiSS do their classic disco burner "I Was Made for Loving You.")
The bonus tracks are notquite as essential as they are on many of the others Eurythmics' "Remastered" releases. The one bonus track of note is a surprisingly good reading of the Beatles' over-played "Come Together." Annie's vocals turn this into a demand, rather than John Lennon's simple request.
CLASSIC EURYTHMICS CD WITH A VARIETY OF TREATS!.......2007-05-15
Remastered and sounding sensational- Eurythmics' "Savage" is one of their best accomplishments! The original songs from the 1987 lp are given a nice remastering and the bonus songs are a great treat! Best of the bunch is the remix "I Need A Man" (Macho Mix) which is a total blast in it's re-mixing arrangement! The great rendition of the Beatle's "Come Together" is completely awesome! Annie's vocals with Dave's back-up on this is great! These two songs alone make the purchase of the "Savage" (Remastered) cd worth every penny!
Premonition & Prophecy & Prescience.......2007-01-19
I found myself with the melody of "Beethoven (I Love to Listen to)" going thru my head today and so I thought I'd write about this album. I love this album. In this world of "Desperate Housewives", this album is even MORE relevant today then when it was released. At the time of its release, I think many thought the themes were harsh, dark and edgy...and they are. But I also think this album was a bit ahead of its time. We were in the feel-good-80's, musically. George Michael had "Faith", Whitney Houston was dancing with somebody who loved her (or was looking for that somebody at least), Robbie Nevil's mantra was "C'est la Vie", Belinda Carlisle was telling us "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" and we were all dancing to "La Bamba". Plus, Enya was coming up just around the corner in 1988. So I think the mood this album conveyed was not received well in 1987.
Today, in a world grown just a bit more weary (or "desperate", if you will), the themes of this album hold up and resonate even more so. A bit of prescience on Annie & Dave's part. This album expresses quite eloquently all the darker forces, feelings & emotions we all grapple with...frustration, anger, shame, alienation...all within ambitious musical surroundings both aggresively up-tempo ("I Need A Man" & Beethoven [I Love to Listen to])and brutally downtempo ("Savage"). My favorite cut is "Shame"...never has a song been better constructed....mid-tempo with a built-in component of poignancy you'd never think could be captured so well (just listen to the sample). Another great moment on this album is the break/bridge in "I Need A Man"...a symphony of lashing words just roll from Annie Lennox at a remarkable pace of what she's NOT looking for in a man. Just try to sing along at home! It's one of the best cathartic moments on any album.
This really is a centerpiece in the Eurthymic's catalog of work. It is one I believe has been highly underrated. Progressive in only the way a Eurthymics album uniquely could be. If you can, also try to find the accompanying video album!
My favorite Eurythmics release!.......2006-05-13
Described as the album that saw Annie and Dave take a sharp left in their sound, their sixth album entitled "Savage" is a major departure from previous outings. Coming off from a grueling tour of their "Revenge" album from a year before, it became apparent that the two were becoming increasingly distant and for the first time in their career, wrote and composed the tracks to this album separately. As the booklet to the remastered edition says, "Savage" has a dark, and unmainstream tone.
One of the Eurythmics best albums.......2006-02-16
"You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart", "Shame" and "Beethoven (I Love To Listen To)" rank up with the best tracks on the album. But every track is well thought out and highly crafted. This is easily my favorite album of theirs and I think I have them all.

Hot damn they've done it again.......2007-03-09
The Paybacks new album rocks from beginning to end but also shows a greater musical sophistication than their brilliant second album Harder And Harder. There are a couple of softer songs and longer guitar solos than on previous albums but with no letdown on the heartfelt emotion. Wendy Case's songwriting and whiskey soaked voice just keep getting better. If you like emotional, raw guitar driven rock and bloody roll then you'll love this album. Wendy and her men have done it again.
Rock & fornicating roll! .......2006-11-22
Best pure rock & roll records in years. Simply put, Wendy Case writes great, catchy songs and the band rocks them into the ground. This is a massively great album that would induce the Pope to jump around like a fool playing air guitar. If you like three chords, attitude, hooks and guitar solos, get this - you won't be disappointed. Amazing!
