On the evidence of Rockin' the Suburbs, Ben Folds's decision to jettison the two-piece Five that had backed him on four largely excellent albums has not resulted in any significant shift in trajectory. The Ben Folds Five were only getting better, gradually discovering the confidence not to hide their musical uniqueness (there have been too few piano-led power trios) and lyrical intelligence behind undergrad Barenaked Ladies-style gags. Songs like "Mess" and "Brick" signaled an extraordinary new songwriting talent worthy of comparison to Folds's obvious idols, Elvis Costello and Paul Simon. Only this album's title track harkens back to Folds's fondness for comedy, and it is by far the weakest track here. The rest is mournful, reflective, and, at best, quite magnificent. Folds's hymns to his family, "Still Fighting It" and "The Luckiest" are shot through with an honesty that's rare in alternative rock. The acerbic essence of character sketches such as "Carrying Cathy," "Losing Lisa," and "Zak & Sara" are leavened with a generous compassion. Folds's second solo effort is his best album yet. The remainder of his career must be anticipated with equal parts expectation and impatience. --Andrew Mueller

One of the best abums that I own!.......2007-04-27
A friend of mine owns this cd and one day she was listening to it in the car while we were driving around. I was immediatly floored with this album. Mainly because I remember when "Brick" first came out and I absolutely hated the song and just could not get into Ben Folds Five. (Strangely enough, it has since launched to one of my favorites). As soon as I could I purchased "Rockin' the Suburbs" I did and I listened to it 24/7. Ben Folds' songwriting is amazing. He has this amazing sense of humor, but a great ability to write seriously. In my opinion, his piano playing is unmatched. The work that goes into "The Acent of Stan" is incredible. In fact, thats the song that really sealed my interest. There are no words to describe that song. I would encourage anyone to buy this album. It is one of my absolute favorites (which is amazing because I am a pretty critical person when it comes to movies and music). If you buy this album you will not be disappointed!
Moving to the 'burbs with Ben Folds.......2007-04-05
On "Rocking The Suburbs," Ben Folds joins the ranks of ultimate white guys. With shamelessly unironic glee, Folds takes digs at the kid he grew up as he proclaims "Mom and Dad, you made me so uptight, I'm gonna cuss on the mic tonight." There's even a greater irony to Folds' joke, as this is the same track that got cleaned up to appear in the Animated "Over the Hedge (Widescreen Edition)," minus those cuss words!
It makes "Rocking The Suburbs" something of a concept album, about what happens to the smart aleky kids who find themselves with a little growth and a touch of adulthood. Less smart-aleky than his work with Ben Folds Five (save for the title track), Folds solo doesn't veer too far in sound or general point of view from his previous work. This was easily his most mature album, dealing more with adult issues and adult love. The final song on "Suburbs," the beautiful "The Luckiest" is an unsentimental ode to life long relationships and is probably one of my favorite Ben Folds songs.
The rest of the CD covers a lot of ground. The Elton John/Billy Joel influence is still predominant ("Zak and Sara" opens with a direct lift from Elton's "Teacher I Need You"), but you will also hear traces of Todd Rundgren and The Beach Boys. Folds also is looking at the fear of maturity, and how getting older is not always getting ahead ("The Ascent of Stan," "Fred Jones Pt 2" and "Fired" being prominent examples). More to the point, there isn't a throwaway song on the entire CD, which makes "Rocking The Suburbs" consistently good all the way through. Along with "Whatever and Ever Amen," this is my favorite Ben Folds album.
You either like him or you don't..........2007-04-04
I really don't understand people. Ben Folds is Ben Folds. He's made amazing music with Five and without, and continues to do so. Period. I don't understand how people can say they love one album and then say that another is terrible. I won't be so pretentious as to say that I am a so-called "true fan" of Ben Folds, but what's the problem here? Ben Folds' music sounds like Ben Folds' music on every album! Sure there's variation, but what else would you expect? The guy is a human being. It's been over 10 years since his first release with Five. People grow and change, and the music reflects that. Would you really want something completely one-dimensional album after album? Even then, the kind of variation I'm talking about would be more aptly described as "range". Every song is instantly recognizable as Folds' work, no matter where it is on his spectrum. EVERY album (w/ Five and w/o) features beautiful piano playing, brilliant and sometimes very personal and haunting lyrics, energetic and vibrant songs that you'll find yourself humming all day long, as well as somber rainy-day tunes that cut through all the mindless drivel of normal "pop" music and speak to your soul. It's musical honesty, and it's refreshing. Make no mistake, this guy is a genius. Period. If you like anything else he's done, purchase another album, or just start downloading. Don't let advice from random strangers deny you the pleasure of experiencing what Folds has to offer.
Ben Fold is Songwriting genius.......2007-03-02
No argument that he isn't the worlds best singer, BUT Ben Folds tells great stories, injects a lot of humor into his writing and is an amazing musician. His songs are upbeat and keep me chuckling while i belt them out on my drive in to work.
Rockin My Suburb!.......2007-01-28
With the likes of Ben Folds Five from the early 90s, I decided to dab into the piano rockin scene once more for some refreshing tunes. Upon hearing a voice mail recording of the first track on this cd, I was ultimately hooked, not that Mr. Folds uses my name throughout the chorus of the song, but that this song truly whisked me away to a time less forgotten. Love and life's inevitable stories are humorously brought to the surface in each piano struck track. On that note, Ben Folds has proven to dramatically jam on the keys with lyrics that are percise and energetically remeniscent. If you want timeless rock to hit your suburb, Rockin' the Suburbs is a must have in any musically able playing machine.

Only "The Best" live album EVER!!.......2007-06-28
I'm 53. I love the "classics", and this group's live effort ranks as one of the best I have ever heard. And it places you right there in the audience as if you were on the first row. And by the end, with I Don't Need No Doctor, you've felt the weight of 4 master performers just smack you all over the stage, your're wet from sweat, tired from dancing, clapping, and screaming your lungs out. Gilded Splinter and Rolling Stone (which each took up one side of vinyl) are great. The first song, which challenges you to ask yourself...Are You Ready?, sets the stage for an excellent concert ride.
When given the chance to discuss classic rock with someone much younger than me, I always say....buy Performance, Rockin' the Filmore, and be a witness to what 4 guys on stage can do, and that is play some of the best live music you will ever hear on this planet....but, that's just my opinon, along with the other 50 plus reviewers on this site. BUY IT!!

Ahh,The lovely sound of CRANKED AMPS!!!.......2007-06-16
I bought this release as a 2 record set in the fall of '72 and it has remained a favorite ever since. The tones and performances are totally in a league of their own especially the late, great Steve Marriott. From the first notes of "Four Day Creep" to his singing, playing and arranging skills of "I Don't Need No Doctor" you know this was a man on a mission. And about those amps;no frazzy "Brown Sound" BS here.No complex signal chains of wah>od/dist>chorus>delay>reverb here.Just majestic non-master Marshalls running at near red-line with the eq's set for maximum impact, again especially Steve. His intro to "Roling Stone" gives a clinic on grind.Just unbelievable.Peter Frampton is also amazing throughout.Dig his early lead on "Rolling Stone".Man, the notes just explode from the speakers. The overall band sound is awesome as well with the drums and bass filling out the mix perfectly.Steve's vocals are to me unparalled though.I don't think I have any other cds or albums where I listen to the vocals with the same intensity as the playing. His banter with the audience on "Rolling Stone" is great as well.I love how he calls the audience out-"You want to sing it,come on and sing it!!!!YEAAAHHH!!!" What a showman!Jamming faves for me are "I'm Ready" and "Stone Cold Fever".I love Peter's melodic style on these tracks. From what I read years ago he made a concious effort not to sound like Clapton and I think it paid off as his leads are as unique as they are awesome.I love how the band wraps up "I Don't Need No Doctor" with Peter playing over the ascending chord figure.Man.I damn near tear-up just thinking about it.(what can I say,I GET IT!)If you haven't already you should get it ,too.A must have for any rock fan.
live rock at its best.......2007-05-16
After reading one extremely positive review for this album after another, I thought it would be a wise idea to buy the thing...
and I'm glad I did.
All the reviews are correct- simply put, this album cooks. This is actually my first exposure to Humble Pie, and I think owning this album was a good choice because it's about as consistently pleasing as live rock music can get in the early 70's. Lots of heavy guitar jams, solid bass work, and drumming that blows my mind. Oh, and the sound quality is about as good as it gets too.
The only minor complaints I might have are that "I'm Ready" is one or two minutes overlong, and "Rolling Stone" isn't a song I feel like giving a listen to everyday (because of the talk-singing that occurs during most of it) but other than that, yeah, all the reviews are exactly accurate. You must buy this album if you like your classic rock loud and heavy.
Oh, and I also want to point out, for those of you who might be familiar with the band Black Sabbath and the Sabotage album, that the song "Hole in the Sky" features drumming and cymbal-bashing *exactly* the same as the opening track on this Humble Pie album. Coincidence?
Get ready for over 70 minutes of classic rock jamming at its very finest. Rockin' the Fillmore is a must have for sure.
Lightning in a Bottle.......2007-04-05
I'm listening to this album (that's what we used to call 'em, albums)and reading these reviews warmed by memory. Back in the day, every time we listened to this mainstay of a record, my friend Joe would have to remind us that his buddy was at the Fillmore that night, one of those "people behind the glass plate at the back of the hall." If you asked 100 people on the street today if they ever heard of Humble Pie, 98 would be clueless and the 2 that had would be over 45 years old. Nevertheless kids, every review that calls this one of the "greatest live rock albums of all time" (which appears to be every review) is 110% on the money. It's right there with "Live at Leeds" or anything you else you care to drag up. I've never been a huge fan of Humble Pie's studio records, probably because I became most familiar with "Live" first. The studio stuff's OK, but if you're a rock fan this MUST be in your collection. You don't need to know the band or the songs, if you're 18 or 80 and you love 70's era rock music, you will love this record. It's loud, long, raw and absolutely relentless. Folks, spend your hard earned money wisely. Don't buy junk. Buy this.
THIS CONCERT IS ONE OF ROCK'S GREATEST MOMENTS DURING ONE OF ROCK'S FINEST HOURS........2007-03-26
I will be writing a review on the legendary historic live album entitled "PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE" by one of Rock's greatest legendary bands. I give you one of England's pride and joy's, HUMBLE PIE. This legendary historic live album was originally released in 1971 on Vinyl/LP and 8-Track on the A&M Records label. I purchased the first release of this album on Compact Disc in the late 80's. Recently, I purchased this live album on Compact Disc in a Japanese import by Universal Japan. I highly recommend purchasing the Japanese import since the sound quality is UNBELIEVABLE. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary live album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.
HUMBLE PIE will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history and be remembered for having two of the greatest charismatic showman ever. These two, of course, is the late great guitarist Steve Marriot and lead and rhythm guitarist Peter Frampton. When these two giants joined forces and recruited EX-SPOOKY TOOTH bassist Greg Ridley and drummer Jerry Shirley, the stage was set and Rock n' Roll was about to be knocked on it's big a*s. HUMBLE PIE has enjoyed many years of success with their previous album releases and playing live to sold out audiences the world over. However by 1971, musical differences between Marriot (Hard Rock and Blues) and Frampton (Pop Rock) were starting to surface and was starting to dictate which direction the band was heading in. When "PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE" was recorded and released, it was clearly evident on what direction the band was headed in. As a result, before "PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE" was even released, Peter Frampton quit the band. In my opinion, "PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE" is one of the greatest live albums ever recorded. This legendary live album is a true testament of four extremely talented individuals and a fine fitting tribute to a great band that was truly ahead of their time.
It is now time to let the Rock n' Roll music speak for itself and do all of the talking. PLEASE NOTE: THIS ALBUM SHOULD BE PLAYED EXTREMELY LOUD. This legendary historic live album begins with the merciless Hard Rocker "Four Day Creep," the nine minute Robert Plant sounding blistering Hard Rocker "I'm Ready," the breathtaking Hard Rocker "Stone Cold Fever," the twenty-four minute groundbreaking slow turned fast paced Hard Rocker "I Walked On Gilded Splinters," the sixteen minute Robert Plant sounding slow rugged Hard Rocker "Rolling Stone," the incredible killer Hard Rocker "Hallelujah (I Love Her So)" and the nine minute in your face Hard Rocker "I Don't Need No Doctor." May I also add that Marriot's blistering lead vocals almost has some incredible similarities to LED ZEPPELIN'S Robert Plant. Marriot's lead vocals sound so fantastic that he is daring to shatter your ear drums while in your face. Also, Marriot's and Frampton's merciless guitar licks and riffs are the stuff that is made of legend. YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS CONCERT TO BELIEVE IT.
Overall, this is one great live album worth seeking further into and checking out especially if you are a HUMBLE PIE diehard fan or a devout music collector. As for all of the newcomers or new beginners to the sound and music of HUMBLE PIE, BUY THIS ALBUM. I PROMISE YOU THAT YOU WON'T BE SORRY. You can also purchase the A&M 25th Anniversary Classics Volume 14 of HUMBLE PIE'S greatest hits on Compact Disc which is also available on amazon.
I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary historic live album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This legendary live album has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one great live album that no music fan or collector would want to be without.
In closing, following the release of "PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE" and Frampton's departure in 1971, HUMBLE PIE persevered and moved on with the leadership of guitarist Steve Marriot which lasted a few years longer until 1975 when HUMBLE PIE was finally laid to rest. But HUMBLE PIE would not rest for long. Marriot would resurrect HUMBLE PIE many times through the years with different band personnel but would never come close to the original line-up. HUMBLE PIE would also release many new albums through the years to highly critical acclaim. In the late 80's, there was a reunion between Marriot and Frampton that went so well that the two were contemplating bringing back the original members of HUMBLE PIE and recording a new album and go out on the road promoting it. Sadly, it would never happen due to the sudden and untimely death of HUMBLE PIE guitarist Steve Marriot on 20 April 1991. Following Marriot's death, Frampton and the remaining surviving members of HUMBLE PIE would perform a sold out tribute concert for their fallen friend with success. With this in mind, HUMBLE PIE has left their mark in Rock n' Roll history as a result of the many contributions and accomplishments that the band has made to Rock n' roll. HUMBLE PIE LIVES and will never be forgotten. So here's to you late great Steve, Peter, Greg and Jerry. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. HUMBLE PIE FOREVER. STEVE MARRIOT LIVES. R.I.P. STEVE MARRIOT, Born 30 January 1947, Died 20 April 1991 at age 44. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

Album Description
Want My Mommy (Time for Bed)" is the No.1 song XM Kids national satellite radio! In addition, The Movers' debut disc, "Good Ideas," has been named a 2003 Parents' Choice Recommended CD and was named Best Recording for Younger Children by Children's Music Web. Also, "Toothache," a tune about dental hygiene set to an old-school rap beat, garnered a 2003 Great American Song Honor Award and the Caribbean inspired "The Medicine Song" was recently named a finalist in the USA Songwriting Contest. Imagination Movers combine pop, hip-hop, rock and world music with educational themes for kids and their parents. The Movers sing about healthy eating, separation anxiety, sibling rivalry and other topics that relate to being a little kid, but the group's musical style has a decidedly grownup groove. Think Mr.. Rogers meets the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Regardless of how you describe it, Movers music is catchy stuff that parents and children will want to listen to over and over again!

We love it!.......2007-02-19
We love the Imagination Movers! After seeing them on the disney channel, we decided to purchase the cd for our car rides. We all love them, even my husband and I sing the songs! My personal favorite is the song about going to bed.
Great Music!
Great children's music.......2007-01-18
If you are only going to buy one children's music CD, buy this one. My three year old listens to it all the time. It is fun for adults and children alike. It still sounds good even after the 1000th time of hearing it (and you will hear it a 1000 times). The music is very hip, but the lyrics are written from a toddlers point of view. I especially like "The wah wah song", "one more book" and "Shakeable Fruit". Its obviously written by guys with a sense of humor and young children. Pity I can't give it more than five stars - highly recommended.
Great CD!.......2007-01-10
Imagination Movers are great performers and singers. My kids, 2 1/2 and 20 mos, just love their music. Highly recommend it.
One of my daughters favorite CDs.......2004-11-20
My daughter LOVES this album. Take your medicine and Good Ideas are her favorites. Calms her down in the car everytime. BUY this and every other album they make. They are all great!
Can't rave enough about the Imagination Movers!!!!!!.......2004-09-12
Five stars are not enough to express how much we love the Imagagination Movers (known in our home as the "IM's"). My five-year-old son listens to their music over and over and over, knows all the lyrics, and has memorized which song is which number on the CD. Meanwhile, my 2-year-old daughter is rapidly catching up and sings and dances around the house, in the car, and anytime in between ("Mommy, 'Magination Movahs" she announce when we heard "I Want my Mommy" playing in a children's store recently). As others may have mentioned, the real magic in this CD is ultimately that the musical style of the Imagination Movers appeals to the Mommy and Daddy generation as well, and not only will you be willing to listen again and again with your enthusiastic youngster, but you may find yourself listening on your own one day! Finally, I must also add that my son has decided that instead of being a doctor like Daddy, his life goal now is to become an Imagination Mover. Buy this CD for yourself and many for gifts -- the music is contagious and bound to be a big hit!!!

The rawest '50s rock retains an irresistible pop culture gravity: indeed, the farther one moves away from it in time, the more compelling--and often intoxicatingly alien--it can seem. Produced with fervent devotion by Rhino roots-rock veteran James Austin and featuring a detailed, track-by-track annotation by rockabilly guru Colin Escott, the 101 tracks on these four discs (fully a third of them making their American CD debut) reinforce that notion at every turn. The oft-dizzy, lust-crazed music here argues that the set's "punk" appellation is but marketing-driven redundancy, even as the range of its rockabilly riches gratifyingly defies the attempts of the set's contributing pundits and musicians (including James Burton, the legendary axeman on many of the tracks, as well as Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Rev. Horton Heat, and The Blasters' Dave Alvin) to define the genre.
The set shrewdly uses expected contributions from Elvis, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly, Link Wray, Jerry Lee, the Burnette brothers, and Gene Vincent as but familiar anchor points for a journey that bounces from coast to coast (and the UK, courtesy of Johnny Kidd's great "Shakin' All Over"), fueled by a high-octane brew of folk, country, and R&B on its ever-manic, guitar-driven thrill ride. Underappreciated pioneers like Bob Luman and Wanda Jackson are showcased along the way, as are early efforts by eventual stars in other genres (including Buck "Corky Jones" Owens, George "Thumper" Jones, and Canadian Ronnie Hawkins, later to become the Band). But it's the loopy, reverb and echo-drenched side of one-hit (and no-hit) wonders like Freddie and the Hitchikers' theremin-crazed "Sinners," sex romps like the Caraways' "Ballin' Keen," and John & Jackie's downright heated "Little Girl"--not to mention a virtual parking lot full of Cadillac tributes from Vince Taylor, Sonny Fisher, Larry Dowd, and Joyce Green--that are the true treasures of the set's pop archaeology. --Jerry McCulley

Its a Rockabilly Riot!.......2007-06-16
I just picked this box set up the other day; I'd just gotten paid and this will be the last 'big purchase' that I allow myself for quiet some time to come.
It was completly worth it! The piss and vinegar drips off these songs in buckets, leaving one to wonder at the lameness of much of modern day Rock. The only thing that was missing was a loud cadalliac to drive in while listening to the music; but thats completely my own problem and has nothing to do with the box.
Check out the Wanda Jackson song on disc 4, its great; you also have to love "Graveyard Rockin" on Disk 1. Those are just two gems in this amazing collection.
Rockabilly Heaven!.......2007-06-07
This boxed set is a must! And it's definitely worth the price. Every song is incredible. Much of the material is obscure to people who are not familiar with rockabilly music. This is why it would make a perfect gift for someone who likes this genre, but who doesn't have much of a collection. I will say that if one has a large rockabilly collection already, there might be some overlapping of songs between what's on this set and other CD's. I will also say that this is a wonderful introduction to this form of music. And also the booklet included inside gives very entertaining information.
Rockabilly At Its Best.......2007-05-29
Every song on this four CD set is excellent. I enjoy listening to all four CDs. The CD set comes with a book with information about every song and artist and lots of photos. This was a great suprise when I opened the package. Just great music for Rockabilly Fans!
Rebels from the Roots of Rock & Roll.......2007-03-29
Excelent smattering of roots rock & roll.
This is a Rock-A-Billy Must Have!.......2007-03-28
This collection and its companion book are beyond entertaining. Not only do you learn about the history of Rock-a-Billy, but you hear some of the most obscure and hard to find examples. If you know the basic performers of Rock-a-Billy, this will move up your listening several notches! An excellent value!

great artist mix.......2007-06-27
Crucial Rockin Blues has several of the current blues greats performing an assortment of straight rocking blues and rocking r&b. It is a great CD to broaden straight rock enthusiasts', or straight blues enthusiasts' tastes.
RICK SHAQ GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "A SMORGASBORD OF ELECTRIC BLUES!".......2007-06-23
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SELECTION OF MULTI-ARTIST ELECTRIC BLUES. SUPRISINGLY A NUMBER OF THE SONGS ARE VERY RECENT, SUCH AS COCO MONTOYA'S "LAST DIRTY DEAL" ONE OF THE BEST FROM HIS RECENT RELEASE. TINSLEY ELLIS' "THE NEXT MISS WRONG" IS TINSLEY AT HIS ABSOLUTE BEST. PERFORMING A FOOT STOMPING, ROADHOUSE COOKER! DAVE HOLE IS HIS USUAL MAGICAL, WHIMISICAL, AUSTRALIAN, SLIDE MASTER, WITH HIS GUITAR JUMPING AROUND, LIKE AN UNATTENDED WATER HOSE TURNED ON FULL THROTTLE! GUITAR SHORTY'S SONG "i'M GONNA LEAVE YOU" IS PROBABLY HIS BEST COMBINATION OF STRING BENDING AND VOICE YET RELEASED. THE ONLY NEGATIVE IS THE ATTEMPT OF ROY BUCHANAN, REDOING THE ALL-TIME ROCK CLASSIC BY EDWIN STARR, "25 MILES"! IF YOU'RE GOING TO REBUILD THE STATUE OF LIBERTY, DON'T USE POPSICLE STICKS, USE GOLD! (ANOTHER BAD EXAMPLE IS OCEANS ELEVEN) IN SUMMARY, THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE STEAL AT $8.00! SHAQ "THE KING OF THE WORLD BLUES REVIEWER'S" SAYS BUY IT! P.S. SONG #2 "ROUTE 90" BY JOHNNY WINTER IS ROLLICKING GOOD FUN, BUT IT SURE SOUNDS LIKE "SURFIN U.S.A. BY THE BEACH BOYS!

Album Description
Imagination Movers combine pop, hip-hop, rock and world music with educational themes for kids and their parents. The Movers sing about healthy eating, separation anxiety, sibling rivalry and other topics that relate to being a little kid, but the group's musical style has a decidedly grownup groove. Think Mr.. Rogers meets the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Regardless of how you describe it, Movers music is catchy stuff that parents and children will want to listen to over and over again!
The Movers' new disc, "Calling All Movers," features the band's trademark blend of kid-friendly themes and sophisticated rock and hip-hop music. "Please and Thank You" is a Caribbean-touched homage to every parent's three favorite words. The call-and-response jam "What's in the Fridge" is evidence of the Movers' continued obsession with snack food. And "First Day of School" is a sentimental look at a milestone from a child's point of view. These and 12 other new Movers tunes will be favorites in family CD players for years to come.

The Movers Rock!.......2007-03-13
My 2-year-old loves these guys! Ever since the first time she saw them on Playhouse Disney, they have been her favorite. And now they're mine! All of their songs are loaded with good messages and I love all the musical influences. Each song is different and great in its own way. I just cannot say enough good things about the Movers, and especially this album. Check out "Looking Out the Window" (one of my favorites) and "First Day of School" (my daughter's favorite, along with "I Want My Mommy" from "Good Ideas"). We also bought the Movers' "Good Ideas" album and love that as well (although personally, I prefer this one!). :-)
Fun for Parents, too!.......2007-02-18
This music is GREAT. We are from New Orleans, but unfortunately never attended an Imagination Movers performance! I am kicking myself now. My sons, ages 4 and 2, request this music every time we get in the car. And I enjoy listening and singing along, too. It's like good adult music with kid lyrics. Can't beat it! Thanks you guys.
Think outside the box!.......2005-11-16
This guys are great! Kids love them! Parents can tune out the lyrics and the music will take you back to your college days! I've dropped my kids off at school and continued to listen without them in the car! Baton Rouge, LA
I got it - You get it!.......2004-11-24
We've had Good Ideas for a while and just bought Calling All Movers. Wonderful! Simply wonderful! My kids love the Fridge song and the Recipe song and I like Please and Thank you. Do youself a favor and buy this for your kids because this is real kids music - you'll get hooked too:)
Wow, a pleasant surprize!.......2004-07-31
My son got this as a gift for his 5th birthday. I heard it in the background one afternoon and walked to his room to see what it was. I was shocked when I listened to to lyrics and realized it was music for him. I sat an listened and watched him dance around. Remarkable music. Two thumbs up. One kids size and one grown up. Now I need to get their other CD.

Most of the artists on this tribute to Sam Phillips's legendary Memphis label have chosen to cover the rockabilly hits. It isn't until a genuine Sun rockabilly artist--the late Carl Perkins--makes an appearance, joining Van Morrison for Howlin' Wolf's "Sittin' on Top of the World," that things briefly get bluesy. Instead, Paul McCartney, Jeff Beck, Chrissie Hynde, Tom Petty, and Bryan Ferry all offer up loving, note-for-note recreations of early Elvis tunes, even if it was Jerry Lee Lewis, not Elvis, who recorded a cover of "Don't Be Cruel" (Ferry's tune) for Sun.
But Elton John and Mandy Barnett both do The Killer (Lewis) proud here, as Sheryl Crow later does for Charlie Rich, and Led Zep's Page & Plant do for Sonny Burgess. Especially marvelous is Bob Dylan's subtle and, at times, hilarious take on Warren Smith's "Red Cadillac and a Black Moustache." It's a career highlight and every bit as enchanting as Robert Gordon's '70s cover version. Like the label itself, there are more hits than misses here. --Bill Holdship

rockabilly summit.......2007-04-22
This is a unique gathering of musical giants. Where else can you find a CD with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Scotty Moore, James Burton, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Robert Plant and Bob Dylan. This much starpower has never been put on one CD before. Every song sounds like a hit. Some like Plant, Dylan, Tom Petty and Bryan Ferry definitely try to be rockabilly while others like LIVE and Kid Rock do what they do best. Rap and grunge don't really fit in with the theme here but its just a brief departure from an otherwise retro disc of bliss.
It Rocks,however..........2002-08-13
A tribute to Sun Records and not a cut from the Killer?? Jerry Lee Lewis lives right down the road from Sun Studio,so why was he excluded from a "tribute" to his old stable? For all who may not know,he still ROCKS,and does so with alot of gusto!! I did enjoy the Dylan cut,as well as McCartney,ChrissieHynde,Van and Carl,Kid Rock,Cheryl, and the rest, many of these tunes have been covered before, and were hits, many by the guy who was snubbed,Mr. Lewis! So what gives?? If the listener isn"t aware of Sam Phillips, the big "E",Carl,Killer,Cash,Warren Smith,Howlin Wolk ,Rufus Thomas and all the rest, then this will help open a door to some reat roots music for them,I found it refreshing overall.
Not a legacy to stand on.......2002-06-09
If this were a tribute record, it would be but one of many that have littered the record and CD shelves for the past forty years or so. But this is not a tribute record. It is "the legacy of Sun Records" (see subtitle). What does that mean, exactly? I have no idea, but, apparently, the Sun legacy consists of clueless Sun "cover" versions offered up by clueless celebrity rockers. Somebody should contest the will, in my opinion. (Wait-isn't Sam Phillips still alive?)
Anyway, some of the tracks are harmless enough. McCartney does a very pleasant "That's All Right," with Scotty Moore as laid-back and lovable as ever. And Jeff Beck's guitar showing-off on "Mystery Train" is fun, even if it fails to drown out Chrissie Hynde's inexplicably orgiastic singing, to use the latter term as lightly as possible. And it's always nice to hear Carl Perkins. Perkins, Moore, and McCartney are as good as it gets, though a few of the other acts try to be creative--most notably, LIVE, who play "I Walk the Line" in minor mode to interesting effect. While LIVE's version doesn't displace the memory of Johnny Cash-or, for that matter, Jaye P. Morgan, who had a contemporary pop hit with the song-at least the group tries..
The same can't be said of the self-obsessed rockers Page and Plant, whose abominable version of "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It" is the CD's worst offering. This simple and infectious novelty number was done many years ago by Hank Williams in a style called "music." Tom Petty's "Blue Moon of Kentucky" is only slightly better. Petty, who sings with an indeterminate accent, seems to be trying for a pop-journalistic version of authenticity. Only he knows what he is doing. This tacky package is completed by faux-primitive cover and booklet art, along with the most hilariously illiterate liner notes ever written. Two stars for the handful of musicians mentioned above. You'd think they'd have better things to do with their time and talent.
Pulled Off A Very Difficult Project--Great Album!.......2002-06-08
Let me preface by saying I'm a big fan of American roots music. Growing up, I absolutely craved this type of stuff. I could find a few Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters records at the local library and I "borrowed" my grandfathers Hank Williams record, but Elvis Presley was about the only Sun music readily available. RCA's release of the Complete Sun Sessions in 87 lead me to a general interest in the sun music catalog. Many of the songs I owned as EPs that had been given to me by my grandmother. As a graduating senior from college 93, I took a road trip to Memphis and visited Sun Studio. In the store above the studio, I purchased 2 U.K. Import CDs from Charley Records Limited, The Sun Story Vol. 1 Sunrise & The Sun Story Vol. 2 Rockabilly Rhythm. You wouldn't think that the Europeans would have a better handle on our own music but that always seems to be the case.
By now I'm familiar with almost all of these songs. I can honestly say there aren't any "mailed in" performances to get on the album. Many of these songs are deceivingly simple, especially by today's standards, but to attack them with such sincerity is part of what makes this a great album.
Scotty Moore (Rock & Roll HOF inductee, Sun Records Elvis Presley guitarist) appears on "That's All Right" and "Don't Be Cruel" with D. J. Fontana (Elvis Presley drummer). In all honesty, Scotty deserves as much credit for the Rock and Roll stylings on those two songs as Elvis Presley. I'm glad he could be on the album with Paul McCartney no less.
Paul McCartney (no slouch in the legend department) does a bang up job on vocals with "That's all Right". He's very sincere. I don't see how you could sing this song without curling your lip. Perhaps he was.
I wish Scotty Moore could have played on "Mystery Train" (he took the Elvis version a much different direction from the Little Junior version), but Jeff Beck goes way beyond what Scotty did and rocks it out. Very Nice (show off)! Chrissie Hynde is her interesting self on vocals.
Jimmy Page & Robert Plant send up the sloppy "My Buckets Got A Hole In It" in true rock fashion.
Elton John pumps the piano in true Jerry Lee form on "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On". Who has done more for the piano in Rock and Roll than Jerry Lee Lewis and Elton John? It just has to be on here.
It's great to have Carl Perkins on "Sittin' On Top Of The World". His distinctive voice sets up the even more distinctive Van Morrison to cut right into the song. Van Morrison, the producer, does himself a favor here, but it works really well.
Bob Dylan's "Red Cadillac And A Black Moustache" is a pull back in energy from the original Warren Smith version. I guess if you're Bob Dylan you can do whatever you want. His thinner, nasalier voice drips with the emotion of his later works.
"Lonely Weekend" by Matchbox 20 and "I Walk the Line" by Live are the more experimental tracks.
Chrlie Rich's (yes, the Silver Fox) "Lonely Weekend" was a well written, over produced song that he chose to sing in Elvis Presley vocal style. Matchbox 20 showed more originality than Charlie Rich in this regard.
Live decided to play with dynamics to create a dark and brooding "I Walk The Line". How can someone complain about a dark and brooding version of a Johnny Cash song? (When I play it I use lots of distortion too.)
My biggest disappointment is the Chris Isaak "It wouldn't be the same without you". Chris does a good job here, but his vocal abilities to channel the spirit of Elvis are not put to use. What were you thinking?! He has previously recorded "Blue Moon" for an Elvis tribute album with Scotty Moore, and I swear it sounded better than Elvis.
Finally, what can I say about Kid Rock? He belongs on here. Rap was as cutting edge as this music in its time. Bawdy and brash. I know Elvis would have rapped had he lived into the Nineteen Eighties. Great Album!

Rockin Oldies.......2003-03-22
This cd differs from other sports cd's in a major way: it includes several rockin oldies hits. "Nowhere to Run" is one of my favorite fast paced oldies tunes, and "Wooly Bully" and "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" are good, classic, fun loving tunes. "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang is a song that should kick even the most depressed person out of the dol drums and into action. One song I can't understand the inclusion of is the Scorpion track though. It's not a classic, it's not particularly catchy (an absolute must for a rockin sports jam) and it has no place on this CD.
Awsome best sports CD ever!.......2001-09-30
If you love sports Cds you'll go nuts for this one its got most of the best sports songs ever by the original artist no cheesy remakes.
The sound is not coming good at all........1999-07-08
I have the worst sound transmission on every song i have heard through this program. How are we supposed to get a sample of what it sounds like when it's all broken up?

Vanill Fudge Rocks Like it was 67.......2007-05-24
they are everything you could want in 60's Heavy Psychedelic Rock the way it should be "Live and Wild" the only thing I did not like was that they changed the order of the songs and I only knew that because of a bad cut which did not effect any of the song preformances. Tim and Carmine Still blow you away. Turn it Up and trip to the 60's.

Drifters.......2007-01-21
I'm not a huge fan of this era as it was before my time but I wanted to get a Drifter's collection because I admire their talant and contribution to R&B. It is a great collection of tunes and is well worth the price, but not something I would listen to on a daily basis. I know that many of these tunes were recorded more than once and some appear on many albums. I love the recording of 'White Christmas' included on this CD and its one of the few that Clyde's vocal isn't the featured voice.
Twenty-Eight Tunes - Includes The Drifters' White Christmas Classic!.......2005-12-25
This collection includes the wonderful, classic, Doo-Wop recording of White Christmas by The Drifters! Twenty-eight tunes is quite a deal, but that one track is worth the price of the CD!!!
THIS IS THE DRIFTERS.......2002-11-15
If you really want to hear the Drifters at their best, then you want to listen to Clyde McPhatter & the Drifters. And this CD --"Rockin' & Driftin'~ The Drifters" will blow you away!
A great doo-wop CD featuring Clyde McPhatter........1999-09-03
I purchased this CD because I collect all of Clyde McPhatter's work. It is an excellent CD. I do not believe there has ever been a voice as emotional and passionate as Clyde McPhatter. His ability to go up and down the musical scale is awesome.
The Original Drifters.......1998-09-30
If you are a person that likes the "original" sounds of R&B and 50's Rock'n Roll, this CD is a real lesson in music. The best cut is the Leiber/Stoller classic "Fools Fall In Love" with the fabulous voice of Johnny Moore singing lead. "Seven Days" and "Money Honey" feature Clyde McPhatter up front. 1958's "Moonlight Bay" (only released on one other cd.) and "Drip Drop" feature the lead voice of Bobby Hendricks. All in all this is a small, but good compilation. It's worth the buy.
