Product Description
Hasil Adkins begat The Legendary Stardust Cowboy who begat Paul McCartney who begat Emmit Rhodes who in turn begat Todd Rundgren Who eventually begat The Bevis Frond who had nothing to do with Prince or Bob Log.

What does this have to do with the CD in your hands? Well, not a lot except that all those mentioned were or are essentially one man bands. Add to that list, Dave Swanson, who, under the name Rainy Day Saints, has issued his first album. Dave is no stranger to rock & roll having done time in many bands over the years-some you may have heard of (Guided By Voices, Cobra Verde, Death of Samantha, The Reactions) some you may not have (New Salem Witch Hunters, Dementia 13, HNG NXN, Speaker/Cranker). In these bands he has been a drummer or a guitarist or a bassist. On "Saturday's Haze", he is all those things as well as vocalist and the occasional keyboard. Why a one man band and not the real thing? Dave replies, "I don't understand the question, but a wise man once said keep a good head and always carry a light bulb." Puzzled, I move on. It is a record full of melodic minuets surrounded by crashing guitars, bass and drums. Songs, (all written by Dave Swanson), that stick to your mind then to your heart but not on your hands. Dave has been buying records since age 4 and has been playing an instrument since age 5. Blame Micky Dolenz if you must. Get Hip Records has now seen fit give Rainy Day Saints a home.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Melody and Crunch!.......2003-12-29

I first heard about this disc through a friend who, like myself, is a big power pop fan. He was raving about it and I figured I would check it out. I must say, I'm glad I did! Crunchy guitars, powerful drumming and great melodies all rolled into one. Just my style! The amazing thing here is, that it's just one guy playing all the instruments and vocals. It sure sounds like a band. I also like the way he throws in some other elements of things like pop/psych into the mix keeping it from being a paint by numbers "power pop" sound. The "he" is Dave Swanson, who, if you are into any indi rock history, you will know as a former member of Guided By Voices (Mag Earwhig era) as well as the mighty Cobra Verde. Lots of really good songs and tight loud production. Thumbs up.
