You have to appreciate the genius that is Richard O'Brien to truly enjoy this soundtrack (and the movie, for that matter), but it's great. Buy it if you care to. Not for the casual experimenter, though.

It's been 25 years since I have seen the movie... The music is as fresh as ever.
RICHARD O'BRIEN-CRACKPOT OR GENIUS?--YOU DECIDE.......2006-09-05
Is Richard O'Brien a crackpot or a genius is a loaded question since he is both. "Rocky Horror" was straight out genius but "Shock Treatment" nestles comfortably in-between. The music and lyrics when they are not weird, are strange and when not strange, bizarre but in such an oddly appealing way that praising or damning the music defies logical assessment.
Whether one tends to be pro or con vis a vis the music(I am definitely pro) it perfectly matches the movie which is most definitely weird, strange and bizarre but unlike "Rocky Horror"
both the CD and the movie lack the dazzingly lip-smacking performance of Tim Curry as Frank-n-Furter.
As is the soundtrack has many delightfully nutty ditties and this time instead of the vocally challenged Susan Sarandon as Janet her role is sung by Jessica Harper who not only sings much much better but she has an unusually erotic tone in her voice which is a glove perfect fit to the music.
Only gave 4 stars because as a sort of sequel to "Rocky Horror" I still miss Tim.

It's hard to believe that after writing possibly the greatest soundtrack in motion picture history, Richard O'Brien could have turned out something so stupendously, abysmally awful.

Worth watching or listening to for 'Little Black Dress' song alone

I think the music is good. Some are -for my taste, at least- very good like 'Access Granted' from Latex OS. Nevertheless, I was HORRIBLY disappointed when I found out that the soundtrack had been extracted DIRECTLY from the movie!!!!!!!! With voices (even only dialogue and no music!!!!!!), background sounds, everything... Hey, if I buy an OS, I expect only music. As far as I know, that way is how the rest of the OS in the market are done. To be sincere, I would return the album if I could. My only option is to try extracting the pure music from the tracks using some kind of software...

This is a memorable cd for a variety of reasons. It's limited edition, it's a double disc set, it's a digipak, and it has gorgeous packaging and photos. This soundtrack to two of the greatest adult films of the 1990's is also highly inspired. While some may consider the music here derivative of Enigma or Delerium, it nevertheless is a potent electronic brew combining techno and trance in a laid back, sensual mix. As the soundtracks to the video in question-- themselves groundbreaking-- it becomes one of the best scores to a pornographic film of all time. Michael Ninn, supposedly a former employee of CNN, wrote and directed the suitably mind blowing story and visuals, and joins with his brother Dino on creating this soundtrack. Antonio Passolini, a talented director in his own right who wrote the screenplay to _Shock_, is heard along with Hall of Famer Veronica Hart in the voice overs. Passolini's odd riffing on how to "regulate the forces of the field energies" on one of the tracks is quite interesting-- hearing the audio demonstrates how much you may have missed when watching the films. My lone initial complaint was the leaving in of the actresses' dialogue in the music; however I have since realized the nature of the composition entails such an inclusion. Besides, when you have Jeanna Fine, probably the most erotic and successful crooner of sweet nothings in adult film history, doing some of the talking, well, you can't pick a bone over that. Includes liner notes by David Flint and written comments by Ninn and Hart.
