Siempre Selena

Slain Tejano star Selena's second posthumous album surveys a hodgepodge of the singer's early material, which comes gorgeously packaged in a sleek snap case. It's a nice addition for the collections of loyal fans, but new listeners should stick with one of Selena's better-assembled retrospectives. Most of the songs here just don't measure up to Selena's stellar work on later recordings, such as Ven Comigo and Amor Prohibido. Remixed versions of pop ditties "Only Love," "A Million to One," and "No Queiro Saber" are expectedly slight. The exception is "Siempre Hace Frio," an exquisite mariachi ballad originally recorded for use in the movie Don Juan de Marco. Selena, who appeared in the film, was nursing a sore throat the day of recording, which adds a painful layer of emotion to her delivery. --Joey Guerra

Old songs with new twist.......2005-07-07
I love this cd because they put a spin on old songs. My favorites are ya no and a million to one I love the way Selena sings it. I can't believe have pretty she sounds on these songs. When I first heard ya no I was like what did they do but after a few hits I like the new verison. If you really want a new way to listen to selena this has to be it.
simpre selena.......2002-03-12
one of the most passionate albums in our times
Beautiful songs with a beautiful voice!.......2001-09-19
This CD is really awesome! I was surprised at how great the remixed songs sounded. My 3 favorite have to be Ya No, Costumbres & Cien Anos. Costumbres & Cien Anos were beautifully remixed!! The new Ya No version rocks! (It's probably my most favorite on this album!) ALL the songs on this album are great! No question about it... this Album deserves it's 5 stars! Selena sings with all her heart and soul!
Ahhh, Siempre Selena...........2001-07-14
Really good CD, better than the one before it (Dreaming Of You...but anyone who's been to my site knows how I feel about that CD). There are some really, really good songs on this CD, like Cien Anos, Como Quisiera, No Quiero Saber, (the chopped-up-radio-ready version) and Costumbres (the cumbia version, better than the original, which was accordion/synthesizer-based). WARNING: there are two really really really bad remixes on this CD: Ya No (originally from Amor Prohibido) and Tu Robaste Mi Corazon (originally from Live). Because of the yukky remixes (you just don't know how bad they really are unless you've heard the originals and then you hear these--what was her father thinking?????????), I'm giving it 4 stars. However, Selena always shines, and this CD is no exception to that rule.
Thank you for this album, Abraham Quintanilla!.......2000-02-10
"Siempre Selena"is my favorite album after "Amor Prohibido".Selena`s father has chosen her most beautiful songs to put in it. The best song is "Soy amiga", I still can`t believe our queen is not here to sing other hits like that. "Cien años"is also very good,it is one of her best Mariachi style music. One of the reasons everybody should listen to this album is because of "Tu robaste mi corazon", a duet with Pete Astudillo.I think it is her most beautiful ballad, and this version is much better than the original. If you want to buy a treasure, you must buy "Siempre Selena".
