About the Artist
Founding member Pat McManis first breathed life into the Rock Ness Monsters in 1997 when he started assembling an ensamble of unique musicians who wanted to create Celtic music for a new generation.

    Who's playing what on this record is hard to figure out. All instruments are buried in the red, often making Sighting's music more vicious white noise than anything else. They straddle the line between arbitrary noise and music, but they know what they're doing, and keep the results captivating. Theirs is the sound of instruments coming together and blurring the lines between each other to create something huge. Their jams sound less like a rock band and more like godzilla screaming on a tear through town.

    I just picked this up after hearing some Sightings tracks on a great radio show on KDVS from Univ. of California, Davis. I now plan on picking up the other two Sightings albums. Giant smears of screech blended with the highly amplified, distorted and echoplexed sounds of several drumkits being thrown down a long flight of basement stairs while a guy playing bass has a grand mal seizure. There's also the screaming. Impossible to tell what all's going on under the crush, but there is a method to the insanity... it has just been dismembered and set on fire. Good stuff and pretty freaking extreme. I mainly write this review because I was sad that nobody else had written up this impressive disc AND I want to point out that Lightning Bolt is not the only band on Load Records worthy of taking a brainsaw to yer noggin. Me approve!

    Man, this band keeps getting better and better with each release. How many bands can you think of to say that about? Criminally underrated / unknown and lost in the shuffle of toasts of the town like Lightning Bolt and Black Dice, Sightings birth an album here that trumps anything by any band I've heard that is mining anything like the same territory. They stand alone, larger than life and louder than shiva, here to shake your foundations. This album has more dynamics than previous Sightings releases but that don't mean they are going soft. Really, this is just an astounding, timeless and singular record. Check with me in three years and I'll likely give it 6 stars.

    wow, what a suprise to behold. sightings has changed from a grating and abrasive mix of noise and proto-industrial into something more tuneful and diverse. there are still many grating and faceless noises to be heard, but they are overtaken by more structured drumming, electronic manipulation, low base tones, and even some piano and violin. a lot of it sounds tribal with rythme and structure playing a bigger role then previous outings. you won't hear the guitarist screaming as much either. he tends to play a more ambiguous role with breathy vocals that are sometimes sung-spoken. sightings new change in sound is tighter and more moving then ever.

      Variety is the spice of life on this CD--the traditional stuff with a twist ("Amazing Grace" in doubletime!) If you haven't heard "The Magnificent Seven" on bagpipes, you'll need to give this a listen!!!

      Bobbo is a great artist and both of his CD's are awesome. He has a unique style that is very hip. It is nice to finally hear an artist that has his own sound...with Bobbo...it's a new sound...not a replay of the same old stuff. Good Luck Bobbo...keep the great music coming :)

      Bobbo Staron's "Mary Sightings" was a surprise to me, because I started listening to it, thinking that it might be something musically standard and typical. Was I wrong?!?! Bobbo takes the path of solid music thru his guitar and adds an eclectic element with his lyrics, music writing, and vocal stylizing. Jimmy Hunter's production makes it all that more outstanding. I had the privilege of sitting in the studio while a few of the tracks from this album (and his second CD, "My Name Is Robert") were in production. Bobbo's stylizing, writing and overall aura commands the attention of all because it has something to offer everyone. I recommend this CD to ALL music lovers.

      Where can one begin describing an artists music, when you're speaking about Bobbo? Bobbo, his heart set with music, seems to keep poping out with more and more wonderful songs. Bobbo's current radio hit "Mary Sightings"(current chart position #14 in New Music Weekly) speaks for itself. Radio Stations love him....listeners love him.....he's defintely got something going on here. Also, check out "Gloaming Drive", "Self Alchemy" and When The Girl Who Dances on Chairs Is There". You're sure to hear something special in all those. Good Luck Bobbo.
