Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars excellent cd.......2007-02-27

I got this cd primarily for two songs, All Star and Walking on the Sun. I tend to keep listening to my favorites, but the other songs are good too. Overall, a good CD that I will enjoy more with time.

4 out of 5 stars Quite good :-).......2006-11-10

These guys have an old sounding but at the same time new twist on music that is quite refreshing after hearing all the hip hop, rap and grunge music out there.

5 out of 5 stars Better then ever!.......2006-01-29

I've always loved Smash mouth, and this CD is the way to go for all fans. Or even if you're starting out, this is the one to get as it has several tracks on it you can't find on their other cds. such as Mystery Man and Pacific coast party. This is a good cd to get to sample all their works.

Beside's it has several of my favorite songs on it, such as Walking on the sun, When the morning comes, better do it right ( a song you can't find anywhere else except for the Grinch cd) and Waste. I'm just disappointed they didn't come out with this cd sooner before I spent money on buying soundtracks just for one single smash mouth song.

5 out of 5 stars This is a good cd .......2005-11-27

I love this cd it's pretty good my fav song is allstar

4 out of 5 stars They Are All Stars.......2005-10-01

The 1990's really brought out the waves of pure feel-good party bands. For acts like The Offspring with Pretty Fly For A White Guy, and of course Sugar Ray featuring Mark McGrath and their upbeat track Fly, they have really been the staples of the feel good pop side of music. Smash Mouth is also no acception. During their glory days, mid-90's, and the early 2000's, the group has been really the leaders with making great party songs for everybody. They started right at the top, and still haven't lost their way. Yet, while there are some who have forgotten them, the songs definitely live on.

Smash Mouth's 2005 All Star Smash Hits, is a packaged collection of their biggest tracks from their era in the top 40. The collection actually delivers very well with remastering and compiling some of their best tracks including songs for movies like Clockstoppers, Mystery Men and Shrek. While some of those films died in vein, the music for those ill-fated flicks actually outlasted as great guilty pleasures 2 to 1. The collection includes great party songs like their first big hit, Walkin' On The Sun, their biggest hit All Star, the Neil Diamond cover of I'm A Believer, the quirky Then The Morning Comes, and Pacific Coast Party. While the album delivers well, it does overlook only one song, the tropical-styled You Are My Number One which was used in ads for Chrysler a couple of years ago.

Although it is just a shame many people don't seem to remember Smash Mouth as much anymore. Nevertheless, All Star Smash Hits is absolutely a must have for anybody who loves great guilty pleasure songs. They are still walkin' on the sun.

5 out of 5 stars Rally Round The Steel Pulse Band With Irie Reggae Music.......2006-03-02

This cd is great!

Even thou it is missing songs like Hansworth Revolution, Wild Goose Chase, Prediction, Prodigal Son, and Klu Klux Klan, the cd makes it worth having with songs like the awesome: Rally Round, Rally Round Instrumental, the funky, Blues Dance Raid, the mellow, Your House, and the classic, Roller Skates, will make you want to keep playing this cd over and over!

This English Band can throw down when it comes to playing Reggae. Talent just lives in this band. From Rootsy music to Rub-A-Dub Music, this band can jam. Steel Pulse can delivery a message through their music that will leave you spellbound and wanting more.

Yeah Mon! I Love this Cd. A "Make You Wanna Dance" cd that also gives you a long lasting irie vibe! Ya kno'

Add this one to your reggae collection! You won't regret it.

Steel Pulse is currently on tour and I suggest that anyone that has not seen them in concert, go and check these brothers out. They ALWAYS put on a great show!!!

One Love

5 out of 5 stars A Great Compilation from an Underrated Band.......2005-11-29

I don't think any reggae act ever got closer to sounding as Wailer as Steel Pulse did. Many songs sound so Bob that it is not even funny. This complilation tends to focus on more of the dance-hall stuff they did. Quite often these "Best Of" albums are poorly put together with questionable choices and painful omissions, but this one is solid. Good stuff if you want to get a good overview of what Steel Pulse is about.

It's not encouraging that only one of the four new songs on this 1999 greatest-hits package, arriving after a layoff of more than a year, was cowritten by Raul Malo. But we come not to bury the Mavericks' future, but to praise their past. They're the strongest argument that the change in Nashville in the '90s hasn't all been for the worst. Whether the songs lean toward country or early-'60s pop-rock, they invariably have a good feel, good melody, good hooks. They ring simple and from the heart, without guile or pretense. The musicians are invariably smart, stylish, and sympathetic. Their chops are undeniable, but the ensemble playing makes it all work, and the soloists never upstage the songs or Malo's unforgettable voice. Finally, for all the talk about the Mavericks' Latino-country fusion, it's really more pan-Caribbean than strictly Latino. This is the most festive-sounding country music ever. --John Morthland

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars All In One.......2006-01-29

If you are unfamiliar with the music of The Mavericks, this is the ideal cd to check out. The Mavericks have released numerous cds but this particular arrangement gives you a feel of their variety. Eight of the songs on this cd are compiled from other cds. The four additional ones fit right in. Terrific remake of the Tremoloes "Here Comes My Baby". My favorite Mavericks song, "Pizziricco", is available only on this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Great band..great alternative country.......2004-01-03

Love the Mavericks...this is a great CD. Though I must admit that I don't like all the songs by them, but their 'mixed-genre' and their alternative styles of country music are as attractive as it gets, not to mention ..HIS voice! My personal favourite is "Things I Cannot Change", which is not included in all their other greatest hits CDs, such as the '20th Century Masters' version...which is disappointing. This album also includes other catchy hits such as "Here Comes the Rain" and "I Should Have Been True". I may have not learned to adore most of their songs yet, but those 'few' favourites that I like, have already earned them as one of my top 5 favourite country artists/groups. And those 'few' songs are not only good, they are just plainly some of the best!

5 out of 5 stars Let The Good Times Roll.......2001-12-24

While I'm writting this, I'm listening to Things I Cannot Change.I just can't stop listening to it. It gets you, like all (I mean all) Mavericks songs. Ironically, it wasn't written by Raul Malo (actually, only one out of the 4 new songs in this compilation was). But it could've been. It has his signature, and only the Mavericks could have done it. What about the other songs? Yes, cause, after all it's a compilation! That reminds me a review I read long ago about Great Days, John Prine's Rhyno compilation. At one point, the reviwer said that the customer would regret buying it, cause it'd make him wanting to buy all the albuns. The same thing would apply to Mavericks if it wasn't for those new songs. Don't try to label the Mavericks. They make great songs, for all occasions I must say, and you have that sort of feeling of being brought back to the 50's in a time capsule. Those good days. Unfortunatelly, these are strange days, where Garth Brooks (just to mention the most pathetic) sells millions of something I can only describe as....well, never mind. You can fill in the blanck. Cheers, and let the good times roll. Mavericks still doing SWELL.

5 out of 5 stars Buck Owens meets Jimmy Buffett.......2001-06-22

After hearing "Dance the Night Away" at a baseball game, I set out on my quest to find this band. I snapped up this CD as soon as I found out it was the Mavericks and was amazed at the depth and breadth of the music on the CD. Mostly upbeat with a 60's retro-country style but somehow feeling new with strong latin beats and horns. Bottom line is an amazing mix of songs that are hard to categorize but easy to enjoy. This has quickly become one of my all-time favorite CD's, often listened to from grilling in the back yard to keeping me company on road trips. You won't be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars Great Music......Great Songs.......2001-06-13

If you like the Mavericks, or just love music with a beat, you will love this album! It's one of those rare albums were I like or love EVERY song. I usually have to burn my own CDs because most commercial CDs only have 1 to 3 songs I like.....but this Marvericks album is the exception.

2 out of 5 stars Smash Hits?.......2006-10-07

God...if you're going to make a compilation album, you should do it right. Because tweleve songs just is not going to cut it. Sure, the material that's here is great: all instant classics. But what about what isn't there? I don't understand what prompted the makers of this album to exclude "Voodoo Child", "Little Wing", or "Are You Experienced?". Sure, it's still a nice listen, but it was nonetheless thrown together in a very haphazard way.

If you want a great Hendrix compilation, purchase the Experience Hendrix album. Sure, there are even omissions there, but it's the best one will get. But if I were you, I'd buy the albums. Each one is a classic, and even the less famous cuts will make you begging for more.

4 out of 5 stars Great Cd but..........2006-07-20

There are plenty of things about this cd that are good. The songs, and the sound quality come to mind. This cd contains classic songs by Jimi Hendricks such as "Hey Joe" "Foxy Lady" and "All Along the Watch Tower." The sound quality of this cd is great, and it's obvious that the people who remastered it did a good job. Despite all of this, I do have some cons dealing with this cd.
To start off, this cd was released in 1969. During that time, Jimi Hendricks was still recording, and that was the year he went to Woodstock and gave one of his best-known performances. Secondly, most of the songs on this cd are on the remastered version of "Are You Experienced?" or were on the original lp. The ones that are on the original lp are: "Manic Depression," "Purple Haze," "Hey Joe," "The Wind Cries Mary," "Fire," and "Foxy Lady." Others such as "Stone Free," "Remember," "Can You See Me," and "Red House" aare bonus tracks that weren't on the original lp, but are on the remastered version. That covers ten out of twelve songs on this cd. The other two are "All Along the Watch tower" and "Crosstown Traffic" are on his album Electric Ladyland. There are no songs on this cd from Axes Bold As Love such as "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)." Because of all of this, the cd doesn't provide a thorough overview of his career. That's because it was recorded while he was still alive, and it doesn't contain any songs from his Axes: Bold As Love album. Instead of buying this, buy Experience Hendricks instead. It contains some of the same songs as this cd does.

5 out of 5 stars Superb Remaster of Classic Original LP Compilation.......2006-07-08

Please ignore the rantings of so many like "why another compilation" and "it's too short" -
This is simply a straight reissue of the great 12-song LP that was in every record store in America for 20 years after it's 1969 release, introducing millions to Jimi's music.
This was THE Hendrix collection while he was still alive.
If you didn't hold the records in your hands back then, and cherish the 30-40 minute LP format, you can't understand.
You're too young, you don't get it, and you shouldn't be reviewing music that was made before you were born.
**Only 2 Hendrix albums have gone Double-Platinum in sales :
Are You Experienced? and SMASH HITS.

5 out of 5 stars Smash Hits - Remember - a concise collection.......2006-06-01

There has been the Ultimate Experience, Experience Hendrix, Voodoo Child - The Jimi Hendrix Collection. Now Smash Hits.

Why a fourth GH package (if one doesn't count the 4-Cd box set)? EH has been faithfully releasing the catalog with restored artwork. Are You Experienced?, Axis Bold as Love, Electric Ladyland, and Band of Gypsys were released. All but one (AYE) had no bonus tracks. None! This was the only GH to be released during Jimi's lifetime. It deserves to be released.

Experience Hendrix features a better overview and deeper selection, but it covers merely what is found on the three albums and the fourth recreated album First Rays... plus Star Spangled Banner from Woodstock, so if one has all those albums Experience Hendrix would be superfluous. Experience Hendrix gives far more, yet one can still find several key cuts missing.

This is a worthy addition to the remastered catalog. It's conciseness works in its favor. Original tapes for the most part are used (Eddie Kramer said they found 85% of them). My only complaint is that like all the EH releases, they are mastered hot!

3 out of 5 stars The only reason this gets three stars is for the presence of Purple Haze and All Along the Watchtower.......2006-02-26

I have said that any Hendrix disc with Purple Haze and Watchtower gets at least three stars. And I stand by that claim. Sadly, the rest of the collection is in sorry shape. For one, NOTHING is contained from Axis: Bold As Love, too bad because If 6 Was 9 and Castles Made of Sand are two fine cuts. For another, Voodoo Child (Slight Return) was skipped. Why? I'm sorry, but that's inexcusable. And why are Can You See Me and Remember, average Hendrix cuts in my mind, included when you can do so much better with Jimi? Smash Hits simply doesn't make the cut.

5 out of 5 stars The ultimate in self-worship.......2005-01-19

How many groups could rise to notoriety on a string of 12" singles featuring trashy techno tracks with lyrics all about living life going the wrong way in the fast lane, release an album which is a collection of most of those 12" singles plus some additional material packed with sleaze and sneer, cheekily entitle the CD GREATEST HITS...and not only get away with it, but be absolutely right about the title?

Sheep On Drugs can do all this...and so much more.

"King" Duncan and "Dead" Lee have cut a serious swath through the techno and alt-rock scenes with their unmistakable in your face style of digital punk. And they did four more albums after this one. Can you handle it?

If you think you can...step up.

5 out of 5 stars This albim is fantanstic.......2003-11-11

I don;t know what the hell these other people are talking about. This album i would put in the top ten of all time record that i love. I listened to this album in my car when it came out for 5 months straight. Anyone looking to buy sheep on drugs should get this album. Forget what all these other loser say, and get this.

4 out of 5 stars A good sample.........2001-07-02

In my opinion, this is the only "Sheep On Drugs CD" that anyone will need. Their best stuff is on this CD, but their music is pretty uninteresting in general.

3 out of 5 stars Not a cut above, but certainly a cut........2000-04-14

Not swayed by Britty nostalgia, I'd say this is somewhat dated but still listenable. Its status well below the cutting edge is a deserving one, simply for the reason that there is better stuff out there in each of the sub-genres they supposedly span & blur. I question this album's ability to make one a believer if not already a blinded fan.

5 out of 5 stars Not Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!!!.......1998-10-24

Sorry, I just had to do that. I am going to cut all the pretention, going on about the reasons of this albums greatness. It is just great. Really really good. And they are English, too. Whoever said you can't have too much of a good thing? Not goth, not techno, not industrial, not....anything really, but at the same time so very much. VERY, VERY good live, as well.

3 out of 5 stars There are Better Tubes Compilation Albums Than This One.......2001-01-08

Do yourself a favor. If you want a compilation of early Tubes classics from the 70's, pass on this CD and buy "The Best of the Tubes-Millenium Collection". The version of "White Punks on Dope" which appears on T.R.A.S.H. is a godawful edit that loses the sonic mayhem which makes the original a punk classic. This same criticism goes for the live version of "Mondo Bondage" which appears on this CD. The original studio version from the first Tubes LP (available on CD) is much better. The studio version of "Bondage" is also included in the Millenium Collection.

My other criticism of this collection is the somewhat questionable decision to include "I'm Just A Mess", in my opinion the weakest track on the "Now" album. The Millenium Collection includes "Pound of Flesh", a much better track from the same album (which by the way should be released on CD if anyone from A & M Records is reading this review).

    3 out of 5 stars Completists only.......2000-06-30

A middling collection of, as the title calls them, "Tubes Rareties and Smash Hits", this album wraps up the band's A&M tenure (before they got pop-friendly on Capitol).

The best moments are the highlights from the first two albums -- and if you want "White Punks on Dope", "What Do You Want From Life", and "Don't Touch Me There", (and you know you do!) spend the extra $ and buy both "The Tubes" and "Young And Rich".

The rareties here are of mixed appeal. The "Part A" intro to "White Punks on Dope" is a late 70's Eagles / John Denver take on the notorious anthem's first verse. More amusing is the thrashingly stupid cover of the Captain and Tenille's "Love Will Keep Us Together". A live take of "Mondo Bondage" is borrowed from the band's live album and after that it's all downhill -- bits of "Remote Control" removed from their concept-album context, a tedious song from "Now", and a generic unreleased rocker "Drivin' All Night".

Three great songs and a bunch of filler... eh. The near hits on the first two records, plus the thematic cleverness of "Remote Control", are much more worthy of your Tube-time.

    4 out of 5 stars Great compilation.......1999-08-13

This album is a fine mixture of existing tubes tracks from the first couple of albums and also a great live version of white punks. Also included, i havent seen this on any other tubes albums, is a track from the unreleased Black project, not bad either, all in all a good CD if like me youre a big fan, then its a must..rock on
