5 out of 5 stars Amazing and Soulful.......2007-07-03

I first heard this recording at a session at the 2007 conference of the Association for African American Historical Research and Preservation and I have been listening to it ever since. This CD really is a celebration of music.

I have put in this CD without telling people what it was and have enjoyed the totally positive response.

2 out of 5 stars Was disappointed.......2007-05-22

I bought this CD because of the great reviews and didn't like it at all. Too loud and abrasive for my ears... I gave it away to someone who might better like it.

I expected it to be mellifluous and soulful but found it rather annoying... especially at the holidays.

5 out of 5 stars excellent, excellent cd.......2007-04-26

there is nothing more i could say about this cd that the other reviewers haven't already mentioned - it is a must have for anyone, even if you are not a fan of christian music. i had never even heard of this project - i bought it soon after it came out, simply because i liked the cover art and thought it would be a good cd to have around christmas. it's better than that - i listen to it year round. every song, no matter what style, is delivered with all heart and soul possible. excellent lift-you-up music, and great to listen to in the mornings to get you pumped up for the day. "and he shall purify" is simply electrifying. i am also a big fan of the final song, "halleluja!" and "but who may abide the day of his coming" will just set you free! year round, this is an outstanding example of gospel, jazz, hip-hop and absolute zeal for any music lover.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Recording.......2007-04-11

Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration is a masterful interpretation of an age old classic. The arrangements are sheer brilliance. My hats off to Mervyn Warren and all those involved in this project.

5 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!.......2007-03-16

This album won a Grammy many years ago. I saw a Gospel Choir perform the Halleluah Chorus live at the award show. Since then I have not only enjoyed the recording tremendously myself I have given it to several people at Christmas time and they have been equally enthralled. I loaned it to my son's High School Choir teacher and finaaly made it a gift when he refused to give it back!

Amazon.com

Adagio follows in the rosin-dusted footsteps of The Impressionists, A Different Mozart, and A Different Prelude. As with those releases, it was produced by Dawn Atkinson and features many of the same artists. The results are as varied as the musicians. Violinist Tracy Silverman cuts one of his patented echo-delayed pizzicato violin arrangements of a Bach arioso, while Patrick O'Hearn drapes a somber keyboard shroud around the Adagio from Rodrigo's Fantasy for a Gentleman. Jeff Johnson and Brian Dunning find the Celtic air in the Adagio from Handel's Sonata in G, while Philip Aaberg discovers infinity between the notes of Barber's ubiquitous Adagio for Strings. He stretches the melody across his piano in finely drawn lines, subtlety filled out with synthesizer undertones. Subtlety is a casualty on Philipe Saisse's bongos, bells, and synth arrangement of Bach's Air on a G String. It's also sacrificed in a corny confection of Handel's Sarabande by Paul Schwartz. His ham-fisted electronic keyboards would've sounded dated even before Switched-On Bach. But Adagio features plenty of musicians who are willing to surrender themselves to their elegiac themes, including guitarist Steve Erquiaga, Mike Marshall, and Edgar Meyers. --John Diliberto

5 out of 5 stars Simply Gorgeous !.......2003-10-05

This is the first Windham Hill compilation I've purchased in a long, long time, and I am thrilled with the music.
The artistry is stunning, the artists bring themselves to the music while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the original piece.
My favorite is Grieg's Nocturne, arranged and performed by Steve Erquiaga. I have been in love with his music from the moment
I heard his CD "Cafe Paradiso" (Imaginary road Records). It is absolutely stunning!
When I saw that he was on "Adagio" I went for it. I'm so happy that I did ...
Other hightlights for me are Philip Aaberg's "Adagio for Strings", Tracy Silverman's "Arioso" ..... they're all beautiful.
Thank You for this wonderful music.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing CDs!.......2006-09-20

I love these two CDs included in this set. I was introduced to this by my father, who loves to listen to this music, too. He let me borrow the first CD for a day, and I kaifed(spelling is wrong, I know.....) it away from him the next week, and it has a permanent home in my room. It is one(Oh, all right, two,) of the best CDs I have ever listened to, making it in my top three with a Manhattan Transfer CD and a Maynard Ferguson CD.
Amazing songs, great for gift giving.

5 out of 5 stars One album I'll probably listen to forever.......2003-02-09

I believe I've played this CD, on average, once each week since I first came upon it in Spring, 1999. Atypically, each piece on the album is thoroughly enjoyable, and every one seems better than the one before it. Well represented are works by David Lantz and Paul Speer, and by David Arkenstone. Usually I skip around when playing a CD; this is my one and only exception. And everyone asks for repeats of "Behind the Waterfall".

5 out of 5 stars One of my most-played cd's.......2002-09-17

CD #1 in this double album has three or four pieces that I really enjoy--Tingstad & Rumbel's due, Friedmann's mysterious mermaid composition and of course the wonderful "Cristofori's Dream", which was a big hit CD on its own. I ended up getting the individual albums for Tingstad & Rumbel, because I enjoyed their particular sound so much.

At first, I didn't like CD #2 as well as CD #1, but now I listen to this almost as frequently. There are some Celtic-inspired pieces in particular that are very pleasant.

The great thing about these samplers for me is that I can find artists I am not familiar with, and also there is so much variety that I can play it over and over without getting bored.

4 out of 5 stars Good intro to Narada.......2000-11-29

I do not personally own this CD but I did check it out a couple of times from the Houston Public Library (Central Library) which does own a copy. Generally very good, relaxing music. Narada's Celtic music selections in particular I have found to be NOT as good as Celtic collections by other labels...can't say why, exactly, though. Still, one thing that Narada artists excell at is acoustic guitar pieces (especially ¡Nuevo Flaminco! stuff). Unlike the other reviewer, I am generally fond of New Age electronic pieces, it's just that I've heard better elsewhere, particularly, as I said, in regards to New Age Celtic tunes.

5 out of 5 stars Best Buy and Superb.......2000-09-16

Two discs, chock full of the best stuff. These are long-running discs, no short-changing here. There are only two pieces I sometimes want to skip over, and they suffer only by comparison with the best collection I have seen.

3 out of 5 stars Quirky Mozart album winds up charming me.........2006-12-24

This is definately not your grandfather's versions of Mozart. The artists change up the instrumentation and creatively put new life in such classics of "Elvira Madigan", "Ruhe Sanft" and "Eine Kleine Nachmusik". Good enough for a listen if you want to hear someting new.

4 out of 5 stars Original Mozart Style.......2003-04-05

i receive this cd form amazon.com, i love the first clip, the arranged for the music of Mozart are beautyful, very inspirational, nice version of very artist like Bela Fleck, his version of this sonata are magnificent, very original, and other way to hear mozart music, maintenance the essential of the music author, buy this Cd if you love the classic music, and the jazz music same, the fussion are excellent and for sleep moment is nice hear this album

5 out of 5 stars Mozart as you never heard it before........2002-06-14

Just when you think there is nothing more that can be done with Mozart, along comes this album. The interpretations are so fresh and different that I felt I was relearning Mozart. I think he would be very proud.

5 out of 5 stars A Different Mozart -- The right title for a delightful CD........1999-12-16

If you love Mozart, try this album. Interpreters such as Bela Fleck give us a chance to appreciate the enduring beauty of the music, and all of the selections are beautiful in their own way. Each of the pieces is too short for my taste, but that does allow for many different interpreters on the CD. I'll definitely buy the follow up to this album.

5 out of 5 stars This More-zart CD should be 10 stars out of five........1999-08-07

I have been listening to this CD for quite a while and I still like it. It never bores me. First, the transcriptions are done ingeniusly. Second, all the works are done by different musicians and thus the the play styles are all different. This is really QUITE A DIFFERENT More-zart. For example, Ruhe Sanft is an aria in 3/4, but it is beautifully transcribed in 4/4. At first listening, I didn't know what it was, but it sounded like I heard it before, and I couldn't figure it out. Only after I checked the song list and tried second careful listening, I was able to be aware that it was indeed "Ruhe Sanft mein holdes Leben". Every piece in this CD is beatiful. I am sorry that I can give only five stars. I will definitely give it 10 starts out of five. I wish there would be "A Different Mozart II".

5 out of 5 stars I Keep Returning.......2006-05-12

I have had this recording for years and I keep returning to it and never tire. About 2 years ago, I played this CD every night while getting my baby (now a toddler) ready for bed. I have hundreds of CDs and like most all kinds of music, but if I could only have one... it would Bach Variations. It is not too sleepy, not too technic, varied, perfect.

5 out of 5 stars Well Done.......2002-04-12

Thoughtful and well done variations of Bach standards. Artists are excellent, and recording quality is top shelf. Good stuff to relax with.

5 out of 5 stars Soul Soothing!.......2000-01-24

I have long been a fan of Windham Hill, but this is truly special. I also love mellow jazz and classical and this is a brilliant blending plus a couple of suprises into the mix. I really reccomend this work!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Crisp, fresh, and unique!.......2003-01-09

I can understand why some Windham Hill purists would feel as if this compilation is not as good as the "Windham Hill: The First Ten Years." But then again, I don't think the producers were looking to duplicate what was already done ten years ago.

Sanctuary is crisp, clean, fresh and unique. It is divided into a CD for "acoustic" and a CD for "electric." I personally prefer the simplicity of the acousting sound, although I found the electric sound very intriguing. I expected some "techno-bop, space age [junk]" but the tunes were far from falling into this category.

Don't let the fact that Sanctuary is as far removed from the origin of the Windham Hill experience scare you away. This compilation is as every bit as good as "The First Ten Years."

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as "The First Ten Years".......2001-10-15

Sanctuary is a good CD, but the guitar and piano selections on "Windham Hill: The First Ten Years" are superior, whereas "Sanctuary" is really no better than an average Windham Hill Sampler album (and there are good and bad sampler albums from Windham Hill). Sanctuary has some rythmic and percussion pieces that are actually gnarly and you want to hit the skip key on your CD player if you are looking for relaxing and meditative music.

I recommend that you buy "The First Ten Years" before purchasing this album.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful selection of Windham Hill artists and their music........1998-07-15

I haven't known Windham Hill for more than a few years, however my interest in its post-ambient music is now very high. Sanctuary contains an excellent variety of acoustic and electric music, sounds that both calm me in relaxation and make my heart rumble. I play oboe and I especially enjoy Ira Stein and Russel Walder's "Transit" and "Underground" (the bonus track). I also like the selections by Scott Cossu, Jim Brickman, and Øystein Seväg.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Classic Dusty Springfield.......2007-06-08

This is a great 2-CD set of Dusty Springfield, from when she first began recording through her tragically short career. For Dusty Springfield fans, the sound is crisp and clean and the songs bring back many fond memories...what's not to enjoy??

4 out of 5 stars Who Puts These Things Together?.......2005-10-20

While one can't argue with the price of this 2-CD set, one wonders why all these redundant compilations of Dusty's music are necessary? And, since most of them were released after her untimely death in 1999, there's a certain aroma of crass cashing in by serving what this writer calls the Necrophiliac Music Market. It seems every time a musician dies, their record sales skyrocket. It happened with Elvis, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, et al. In other words, who's raking in this dough? Certainly not the late great artist. And, therein lies the tragic irony of Dusty Springfield. It would appear Dusty has had more albums released after her way too early demise than she ever did in life. This is but one of many postmortem compilations floating around.

While the song choices cover just about every phase of Dusty's 40-year career, including her early days with The Springfields, their chronology has been totally ignored. Why this album doesn't begin with the Springfields' tracks followed by Dusty's first solo hit "I Only Want To Be With You" defies logic. Why the first disc ends with the Kurt Weill-esque "Soft Core" and the second disc begins with the insipid, non-Dusty hit "Close To You" is but one example of the disjointed, herky-jerky musical progression of this album. With no prevailing theme and no natural segues, this album leaves the listener confused and unsatisfied.

This writer gave it 4 stars only because it's Dusty. However, if you're truly a Springfield aficionado, might I suggest you pay the extra money and purchase the brilliant 4-disc compilation, "Simply Dusty" - the nearly 100 track, well-thought-out, chronological remastered compilation of Dusty's finest work.

Dust was one of the 20th Century's most gifted vocalists/musicians. While this album will give the listener more than a glimpse of her incredible talent, the way this set is organized will not accord the new Dusty Springfield fan the opportunity to hear how Dusty grew and changed as an artist. "Simply Dusty" tells the whole story - this set is merely disjointed fragments of a fantastic talent's life's work.

5 out of 5 stars Great 2CD set for Dusty fans and afficionados.......2005-03-06

"Classics and Collectibles" isn't simply yet another Dusty compilation cos it offers the original now-rarely-heard mono mixes of all except three of her British 60s singles and some genuine rarities that should appeal to fans and afficionados. Her biggest hits - inevitably the big ballads - are collected on the "Classics" CD. Her less well remembered hits - mostly uptempo numbers - are culled to accompany the rarities on the "Collectibles" CD.

If I had to pick one song from the "Classics" CD that truly stands out, it's the mono mix of "Goin' Back" - it's a thrilling experience listening to it because this long forgotten singles mix is aurally so different from the conventional stereo mix we have come to know and love.

The "Collectibles" CD is for afficionados where the goodies are at. Rarities to set the hearts of fans aflutter include "They Long To Be Close To You" with its Bacharach-styled musical intro restored, "The Corrupt Ones" preceded by a sequence of atmospheric studio chatter, an unedited "Heartbeat", alternative vocal takes of "Nothing" and "If Wishes Could Be Kisses", "Standing In The Need Of Love" (possibly the first song Dusty ever recorded as a solo artiste in late 1963), the original soundtrack version of "Sweet Ride" in terrific stereo, the rare singles mix of "Little By Little" (with distinctive backing vocals that go "ooh ooh" mysteriously excised from the stereo mix) and a much stronger stereo mix of "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" featuring alternative vocals from Dusty and audible background singers to close the CD. For completists, there's also the rare but much maligned "Sometimes Like Butterflies".

To cap it all, Universal used a rare but beautiful shot of Dusty (circa 64/65) indulging her musical tastes in her Baker Street flat. For once, the record company is making an effort with the packaging.

A great product. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Gems!.......2004-12-14

What a fabulous collection this is! Now, though I am not happy that they released some of her rare classics in mono mixes, I am still - however - glad that they put some huge rarities on here.

Awhile back, I ran across her 'Stay Awhile/I Only Want to...," CD, and found the unreleased song 'Standing in the Need of Love' just wonderful. Too bad it wasn't released years back when it was recorded. The other thing I like are the never-before-released stuff: The full-edit of '(They Long To Be) Close To You,' the stereo soundtrack version of 'Sweet Ride,' a previously unreleased song, 'I Have Found My Way Through the Darkness,' an alternate vocal take of 'I Am Your Child,' the single mix of Dusty's 1978 comeback song, 'I'm Coming Home Again,' another unreleased song, 'Sweet Inspiration,' an unreleased edit of 'The Corrupt Ones,' and, uh, at long last... the unreleased stereo version of Dusty's timeless hit, 'I Just Don't Know What To Do with Myself.' I am so glad that this is finally being issued; at last!

Get this CD, folks! I promise you... you won't be disappointed.

Product Description

Like great new music? Well, here it is! Ken Oak is a talented new pop-rock artist who blends elements of rock, pop, folk, and classical into his own unique sound and style. Half Step Down is his first full-length album! It contains 14 original compositions and 6 singles (Maybe, Wonder, End Credits, These Things, Half Step Down, and Analog Girl). Ken is classically trained at the guitar and the cello. He layers his mellow baritone voice, catchy guitar riffs, and soulful cello lines into subtle and complex chords and harmonies. His expertly crafted lyrics feature a dry wit, intelligence, and sense of poetry that he uses to paint personal stories about relationships and experiences that are meaningful and accessible. Although there are bound to be comparisons to artists such as John Mayer, Matchbox 20, and Jack Johnson, Ken's music also contains appreciative nods to other influences such as The Smiths, Oasis, and Sarah McLachlan. Maybe maintained the #1 position (out of 6,517 songs) at soundclick.com and End Credits maintained the #3 position (out of 5,883 songs). Wonder has also been featured on MTV's Surf Girls, NBC Sports' The Road to Ironman, and the WB’s High School Reunion. Half Step Down was mastered at Capitol Records in Hollywood, CA. The producers and engineers that worked on Half Step Down have worked with artists such as Sting, R.E.M., Lifehouse, Lisa Loeb, Audioslave, and Smashing Pumpkins. Also, be sure to check out Ken's online journal at www.kenoak.net or at www.xanga.com/kenoak! With 14 songs and 6 singles, Half Step Down represents great value for great new music.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars My favorite CD..........2005-04-25

What an amazing album. Ken's first full-length album is simply awesome. His lyrics are fresh and funky, with great work from his whole band. His voice is mellow and unique, and I find myself enjoying every single song. It's been a long time since I've heard something this cool. I highly recommend this album, so much, in fact, that I'm buying copies for all my friends. I haven't stopped listening to it yet. This is an awesome CD!

5 out of 5 stars Good stuff.......2005-04-12

"Is the cello absolutely vital for the show?"
"Uh... yeah, it actually kinda is."

I had no idea why it was so bloody important to him, but I had my staff shell out the extra $25 for the cello rental. When Ken hit the stage at KASCON XIX performing "Soma," I was floored.

Ken's music has its share of nice rhythms, smooth vocals, and well-written lyrics suitable for any fan of acoustic jingles.

He's a splendid chap, too. Along with Ed Gorski and Chris Ramos, he'll pose in any "plutonic picture" you request to be taken with him.

5 out of 5 stars Awww ... Ken's not like that ..........2005-04-05

I just wanted to say that I love this album! I listen to it over and over again. In fact, it's the only CD I play in my car. The range of the music and the depth of Ken's lyrics make every track a winner.

And with respect to Not a Poet's review ... well, Ken's not like that ... I happen to know him and I know that he wrote that song in response to some people who were slandering him online. So the song's not directed at everybody, it's just directed at those folks who were spreading lies about him.

5 out of 5 stars Fresh, eclectic, and great from start to finish.......2005-04-01

This album rocks! The music is fresh, the lyrics are real, and the mix of styles and sounds is amazing. Every song is accessible and easy to relate to. Ken's songs avoid cliches while staying musical. "End Credits" and "Half Step Down" have a great groove, and the cello and instrumental work on "Soma" is transcendent. This is a fantastically well balanced album from a genuinely gifted new artist. PICK THIS UP!!

5 out of 5 stars Nouveau Tunes.......2005-04-01

I've listened to many artists' music and not one artist caught my attention as much as Ken Oak did. His music is classic and it definitely shatters the current monotonous mainstream music windows. I'm Asian so I can say this: It's a relief to hear tunes from an Asian artist that isn't ear wrenching, eye wincing music. Oak is actually completely the opposite. His soothing, soft, and might I add, sexy voice is something you can relax to in your car, at your home, or even at a party.

Having earned his composing stripes after the 1960s, John Adams had the pioneering work of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and Terry Riley close at hand as he ventured into his trade. And, while minimalism's historical continuum helps place Adams, he used Reich, Glass, and Riley (among others) only as a starting point. And here's proof: a 10-CD retrospective of nearly all Adams's recorded compositions on Nonesuch Records, the label that also issued Steve Reich 1965-1995 and Kronos Quartet: 25 Years. Adams's Harmonium, a choral work of startling energy and effervescence, appears here in a new recording, as do distillations of both The Death of Klinghoffer and Nixon in China, two path-clearing operas. Over the span of a career covered by Earbox, Adams has returned minimalism to traditional instrumental ensembles as well as to projects that at once advanced a political commentary and took that commentary back to orchestral audiences. And so, in far less time than his predecessors, Adams created works that now play like standard repertoire pieces: The Wound Dresser and Shaker Loops and the Violin Concerto--all of them are here. What these works demonstrate is a fierce creativity on the one hand and perhaps a hunger for commercial advances on the other. Adams may at times be a bustling free thinker, but he sounds ever conscious of what audiences are listening to. As for the works themselves, they remain every bit as daunting as when written.

Some may object to particular selections. I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky, for example, hardly ranks with Adams's best work. But this box isn't a mere best-of; it's an almost-all-of. At times terrifically American--especially in the news-aware operas and their narrative pragmatism--Adams well deserves a major box set, and its coverage is appropriate to his varied, stylistically diverse output. As with any large-scale retrospective, Earbox--which fairly bristles with Adams's new composition, Slonimsky's Earbox--has spots where fans might balk at the quality of the composer's writing. But it's got a fantastic accompanying booklet along with its many hours of inarguably modern and thoroughly listener-friendly music. --Andrew Bartlett

Never before in my life was i moved so intensely and directly by classical music. I put the first cd in my player and a few minutes later tears are flowing. I find myself dancing and moving to a rythm i already seem to know. Wow, i just have to share that.

5 out of 5 stars Nonesuch delivers.Again.......2002-11-27

John adams is one of the most popular living composers of"modern" classical music[I believe the cutoff point, though arbitrary is usually WWII}.I came to him late, through my husband. Modersn classical music , I said? What the hell is that?My husband kept playing bits and pieces of adams for me, and more and more i found myself amazed. and swayed. His operas have been groundbreaking{Nixon in China} controversial{Death Of klinghoffer},his compostions sublimely beautiful{shaker Loops or harmonium].HIS STATURE IS WORTHY THEN OF SUCH A MONUMENTAL CAREER SPANNING BOX SET.This 10 disc set[great value, again from NONESUCH}encompasses Adams' entire career, and though there are some misses here{I was looking at the ceiling and then i saw the sky doesnt quite fit},it is still magnificent. the Highlights are ,{for me} the Wound Dresser, Chamber symphony,Violin Concerto, of course, Shaker Loops and Harmonuim are wonderful. The true jewels here are Nixon in China, the Chairman dances and the Death of Klinghoffer, which is simply a masterpiece. The set comes with a wonderful book, which contains essay's by Robert Hurwitz {An Uncommon Man}renaud Machart[John adams as seen from europe} and Essays before an earbox by Adams himself.A Chronology and dicography are included. A wonderful study of an American original, worth the investment, Highly highly recommended

4 out of 5 stars harmonia in excelsis.......2001-11-12

I must agree with Mr. Bartlett, particularly with regard to "Ceiling." It may well be because his Violin Concerto and Harmonielehre are so powerful. 4.5 stars.
Interesting, and likely intentional, is that two names in the extensive liner book fail to mention two great and glaringly obvious precursors: Carl Orff and Raymond Scott. Without "Carmina Burana," there would be no "Harmonium." Orff has his mark all over Adams's gifted and epic compositions. Similarly, though there are glib references to "cartoon music," the polymath engineer/musician Scott is a seminal figure in American music, and casts a large shadow over the witty juxtapositions and sense of play one loves in Adams's work. In all, an excellent career overview.

5 out of 5 stars Our greatest living composer.......2001-07-22

As a composer, I'm staggered that anyone could fail to be gripped by this music.

That anyone can use the words "spoiled, overrated" amazes me. I emphatically disagree with "A music fan"'s review.

I don't think it's "mind-numbing"; I think it's spiritual and exciting. To me it's the most substantial music being created in our times.

I'm really sorry that anyone could fail to enjoy it, and really recommend others to listen for themselves.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD.......2000-04-02

This compilation should turn even the most curmudgeonly listerner into a fan. Beautifully recorded, great notes -- and it's a heck of a bargain!

5 out of 5 stars Buy Soul of the Machine .......2004-08-19

This is the best Windham Hill sampler and nothing like the "heralded" but really laid back "Winter's/Summer's Solstice" releases by Paul Winter, one of Windham Hill's premier artists of the 80s. While SOTM is classified as "electronic" music, it has oriental and jazz inspirations throughout.

I have loved this release since the 80s. When my tape started to wear out, I copied it and bought the CD. But every Soul of the Machine CD that I buy seems to disappear into thin air, just like that other reviewer has experienced. Hmmm, my friends DO love this release ... .

Listen to this by the pool or while sitting on the patio in the evening. It is relaxing and, even after nearly 15 years, it is still one of my favorite CDs. If you like Arkenstone, Aura and Grusin (Dave or Don), you won't be disappointed. It will grow on you, too, and become your favorite CD in no time flat.

5 out of 5 stars Simply the best.......2004-04-30

I used to own two copies of this CD and they both have disappeared because once people hear it, they steal it. This is simply one of the best CDs available in the new age/electronic genre. One of the top CDs in my 'desert island' collection.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful-Calming.......2003-08-01

This sampler of Windham Hill artists is beautiful and very calming. It is fine as background music, but really it deserves to be listened to over headphones in an enviornment where you can give the music your attention. I usually listen to hardcore punk or metal. This is an album I listen to when I want to slowly relax all of the muscles in my body. This music verges on the spiritual, and I recommend it for anyone who is getting fed up with all of the stress our lives generates.
