"I WOULD SIGN YOU ON THE SPOT!!! I could hear [My Therapy] all over the radio. B E A utiful!"
Product Description
Lawrence Santiago's Axl Rose (Guns n' Roses) meets Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil) vocals is a match made in heaven for the hard driving rockin' sound of the band he fronts, American Popular. "Sold Out (The American Way") is a knock-yer-socks off kick ass album with no bullshit allowed. Besides, who has the time for that when you can play as good as these guys do? Nothing new going on here, it is just straight ahead hard rock music minus all the extra polish and glitter that often is added to some records to enhance their sound and cover up what a group really sounds like. Their approach is obviously to get in the studio, play their asses off, record the tracks, then let people listen. It works very well for them. The are like the spontaneous combustion that happens inside an engine, the only difference is there is not a muffler to silence the noise nor anything to keep the flames from coming out.
Santiago's voice is very flexible for a hard rock singer, he can scream, set a softer pace, or maintain an immense energy level with seemingly no effort. The music must carry him to that lofty level of vocal prowess. The variety of metal played is exciting
rock, hard rock, metal, and all of the above come into the equation offering a variety of listener's different decibel levels. For those that like their music hard, fast and loud or a mish mash of all levels of intensity, it is here on this CD. They never loose their hard-core edge and their sound is comparable to what a live in the studio recording would be.
"My Therapy" was my favorite, no surprise there, because I need therapy on a regular basis, musical that is. In truth, all the songs were great! If you need to blow the roof off your house or your noggin, this will do the trick. In a world full of sell outs that give up their beliefs and original sound just to make it in the music biz, American Popular do it their own way, the American independent music way." musicdish.com

A Kingston Trio Must Have.......2007-01-09
A perfect compilation of all the songs I remembered growing up. I bought this for my Dad because it had one song on it that he really wanted a digital copy of. His old 45's are worn and scratchy. Upon receiving the cd, he was like a kid at Christmas and giddy. He immediately turned it on and to my surprise, I still new the words to every song on this album because these are the songs we sang growing up. A must have for anyone who is a Kingston Trio fan or just wants to reconnect with the past. Every song will bring a smile to your face like just as it did for my Father and me.
Excellent.......2006-03-17
As an avid fan of the Trio, and owning all of their original LP's I was glad to see all of my original albums available on CD. Rather than purchase the required hardware and software to make my own CD's I ordered the three double album CD's from Amazon. They are crisp and clear...much better than I would have been able to produce from my old LP's.
Kingston Trio Fan.......2006-03-12
CDs sound better than my original record albums. Am glad to have the convenience of 1 CD for 2 albums which takes up much less space. It's great to be able to play my old favorites in the car, at home or on the go.
A pair of #1 Kingston Trio albums from 1960.......2005-08-02
The Kingston Trio are arguably the defining group of the American folk revival. Woody Guthrie was the grandfather and Pete Seeger and the Weavers would pass the tradition down to a new generation for which Bob Dylan would be the poet laureate. But when you talk about who made folk music popular you are talking about the Kingston Trio. From 1957 to 1963 (in other words in the period before the Beatles) they were the most popular music group around. This CD from 2000 pairs up a couple of classic albums from the Kingston Trio from the year 1960 and you should know going in that the album that makes up the second half of the CD is the better one.
You would think that "Sold Out" is a live Kingston Trio album, but it is not, and the album made it to #1 on the Billboard charts. The common denominator for the dozen songs is that they are mostly fast tempto songs, most notably "El Matador" and "Don't Cry Katie," one of the group's better songs featuring banjo playing. For those that like the Trio's humor "Sold Out" offers up "With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm." This is not to suggest that there are not some nice ballades included in the mix as well, namely "The Mountains O'Mourne" and an alternative version of "Raspberries, Strawberries." Otherwise what makes this album stand out is that you will not have run across most of these songs because they have not popped up on the sundry Kingston Trio hits collections.
Also making it to #1 on the album charts in 1960 was "String Along," which offers "Full Dimension Stereo." I am sure someone can give an appropriate technical explanation for why this album literally sounds a bit different than previous Kingston Trio albums, but I cannot do anything other than say it is noticeable to my ear (I can only hear out of one, which would be the right and not the wrong one, so it is not too bad). This album also offers the last pair of charting singles by the original Kingston Trio lineup, "Bad Man's Blues" and "Everglade." But the two songs that really stand out are "Leave My Woman Alone," a Ray Charles composition, and, of course, "The Tatooed Lady." Otherwise, attention should be paid to the group's original compositions "When I Was Young" and "Buddy Better Get On Down the Line," and a couple of tunes that have the distinction of having lyrics by Carl Sandburg, "This Mornin', This Evenin', So Soon" and "Colorado Trail." This is a great mix of tunes that showcase the group in the last stages of its first and arguably best incarnation.
great album, bad recording.......2002-12-23
i grew up listing to 'string along' and was excited to see it available on cd. while it has been enjoyable to hear some of my old favotites - which i highly recommend to anyone who loves a little tounge in cheak guitar/banjo/harmonizing goodness - this album was recorded way to high and has some serious distortions in it. painful to listen to.

Theyre better live.......2004-12-28
With the release of all the "radio friendly" "pop punk" crap, this band continues to stay underground. The best tracks by TB on this album to me is Russian Roulette, and Take the reins. And the best TB song ever I think is, Irish Boys. This cd is good, but its too bright, and peppy foy my grunge loving palate. I saw them live in September at Fitzgerald's and they were great. Their singer is so beautiful, she looks a tiny bit like Brody Dalle, and has a killer voice... But this album is alright.
Soild music, a little monotonous.......2004-11-12
Don't get me wrong, these guys are great musicians and their music is tight and solid, and somewhat original. I do listen to the album periodically, however, as an overall album I find that the collection can get a bit fatiguing. The band needs to mix up tempo, key and and sound density a little bit, IMO. "Drone" is an adjective that comes to mind although some people don't mind that. I prefer to put selected songs on mix CDs where they can really punch up the mix.
way better than i expected.......2004-10-08
I just happened to stumble across this band one day, and now i am completely in love with their music. I read about them in Alternative Press Magazine and heard they sounded similar to AFI, but with a more poppy sound. When i heard "Pop" that turned me off, but i decided to check it out anyway.
I was amazingly impressed by the outcome. I don't normally listen to punk music. I'm more of a fan of hardcore and metal, but this band is definitely worth listening to. Agent M's vocals were thorougly impressing and the guitar work was rather nice. The lyrics were fun and the music-extremely upbeat. They reminded of AFI's older stuff, and sounded somewhat like the Distillers, except more clean sounding vocals, and catchier sounding choruses. If you like fast, punky sounding music, you should buy this album. After all this is a REAL punk band, but they don't sound too much different from you average pop-punk band. However, they are way more original.
Holy Hell........2004-08-29
I love Tsunami Bomb.
I just saw them live recently. If you want to get the full bomb experience, catch them whenever they're in your town. But before you do that, buy the CD. They're an awesome, awesome band. Agent M's voice is great, and the music is awesome and...whoa. Amazing live show. Whoa. I mean, WHOA. Buy this CD. Buy Invasion from Within. Buy tickets to their next show. If you don't your life is meaningless.
Unique cd that you should buy.......2004-08-26
I lOVE this cd. Agent M's voice is incredible!! You're not going to find anything like this out there. This is a pretty unique band. The entire feeling of the cd is purely sonic. If your afraid of only one or two good songs that's not going to happen. The whole cd fits well together. The cover of the album and its name is also awesome. (thought I would add that) ... My favorite songs on the album - Roundabout, Swimming Through Molasses, and 20 Going on -
love the part in: Take the reins...
How long till I'm my own?
Independence doesn't start when you leave home
Can't wait till the new album next month!!!!!!

Hide The Reefer.......2005-10-11
Hey, Zipper heads - as noted below, "Sold Out" contains "Santa Claus Is Smoking Reefer" as a hidden track. The song was originally recorded as "Santa's Secret" by Johnny Guarnieri with Slam Stewart (Savoy, 1944). The Squirrel's version was originally released on "Kevin & Bean's Christmastime In The LBC" (1996), one of a series of annual releases by the popular KROQ morning team.
For the Die Hard Zipper Head.......2003-01-16
While I do enjoy the CD, it is more for dedicated fans of the SNZs than casual listeners or people just getting into them. The CD does adds another dimension to their existing albums, but the sound quality is not as good, nor is it as polished (much of it is live).
If you like the band and already have Hot and the Inevitable, than consider this one. Otherwise go with those two first (or perhaps the Best of, but I don't have that one).
A great CD.......2002-05-27
"Sold Out" is definatly my favorite out of all the Squirrel Nut Zippers collection. This cd greatly shows the bands excitment and passion for music. "If you were mine" is one of my all time favirte songs and shouldn't be missed. If you are a SNZ fan, this cd should definatly be in your collection.
An awesome EP for any Squirrel Nut Zipper fan!.......2001-07-30
Okay, you're probably wondering what "Sold Out" is considering there's no album art, no track list and it's not in stock.
"Sold Out" is an exclusive 6-track EP that you can only buy at a Squirrel Nut Zippers concert or direct from their online store (...).
Anyway, here's a rundown of what's on it:
1. St. Louis Cemetary Blues -- One of the tracks originally intended for "Perrenial Favorites" but pulled at the last minute. It's a really nice track with special guests Hawkeye on the mandolin and Andrew Bird on violin.
2. Bedlam Ballroom -- This, as most of you now, is the title track to the "Bedlam Ballroom" LP. Well, this exclusive live version recorded at Spaceland in Hollywood features the late Stacy Guess, who wrote the song, on trumpet.
3. Pallin' with Al -- This live version of the "Perrenial Favorites" track showcases the Zippers' talent of improvising and changing lyrics around at the spur-of-the-moment. Listen and you can hear Tom Maxwell sing some scat about halfway through.
4. La Grippe -- This is an awesome live version of "The Inevitable" track. In this 1997 recording, the Zippers' special guest, the salsa band Bio Ritmo, takes center stage with their vocalist, Rene Herrera, adding some Spanish lyrics of his own.
5. I Raise Hell -- Katherine Whalen takes the helm with this interesting track written by Boston songwriter Milo Jones.
6. Fell to Pieces -- Here is the real exclusive on this EP: "Fell to Pieces" was recorded at the Zippers' second practice session back in 1993! The recording quality is really poor, but the music is a wonder.
Oh, wait! There's more. If you wait a minute or two after "Fell to Pieces" there are three hidden tracks:
*1. Carousel -- I'm guessing on the title, but this instrumental sounds like it belongs right next to those horses attached to poles going 'round and 'round.
*2. Santa Claus is Smoking Reefer -- Cut from "Christmas Caravan" for obvious reasons, if you can get past the utterly silly lyrics, the melody is really fun to listen to.
*3. If You Were Mine -- Another live track featuring Katherine Whalen makes the perfect ending to a smashing EP.
(P.S. Listen after "Bedlam Ballroom" and "I Raise Hell" for jingles from the Squirrel Brand Company, the company that makes the Squirrel Nut Zipper candy!)

Product Description
Stand Up! Records is happy to announce the re-release of Air America luminary Marc Maron's first CD, the newly remastered "Not Sold Out." For those who have witnessed their own personal progression from righteous indignation, to flat-out rage, to defeatist internal fuming, to apathy and back again, sixty minutes with Marc Maron will feel not only familiar, but eerily like having a drink, a couple of Prozacs and a boisterous argument with yourself. Maron happily touches on everything from the fact that drug-pushers and porn-peddlers are not, I repeat, not here to look out for your well being, to his own divinely-inspired plan to rid the world of Al Quaeda using nothing but heroin addicts and a little ingenuity. The really tricky part is, he'll keep you laughing the whole way through. If you haven't yet begun to suspect that the most absurd things in life may be the closest to the truth, Maron will make a staunch believer out of you. At the very least, you're liable to find you've developed an uncontrollable urge to clap your hands and shout, "Again! Again!" when this CD finally winds down.

My First Melissa CD............2005-01-07
This was the first Melissa Ferrick CD I bought....several years back. I loved the second CD, and didn't know what I was missing on the first one. Someone else commented about how "Drive" makes them sweat. I say, if you can make it though the song with out totally giving in, then there is something wrong with you. This CD set is an accurate representation of her live show, with all the emotion and intensity. Nothing could beat seeing her in concert, but this is the next best thing. "The Stranger" enchanted me..and the rest is history! This is one of my favorite albums. I don't go too far without it.
Sweeeetness!!!.......2004-05-10
I have been a fan for a few years now, after I tripped across a burned cd of her music. I have since bought all but one of her cds, but this remains my favorite (although I'm sure the other new live one is great). If you haven't seen Melissa Ferrick live you MUST. I saw her at the University of Washington for my first time last year and have anxiously awaited seeing her again, which I will tonight. She has the intensity and talent of a true rockstar, in her own sense. Anyway, buy the album and you WILL NOT be disappointed.
Album - 5 stars, packaging 4 stars.......2003-05-06
I was disappointed when I first opened it -- 25 bucks for a cardboard flip case double-cd? That's the worst part of it, though.
THE REST ROCKS. The guitar is powerful and she's true to the fantastic songs she is known for while changing them just enough for the nice "you're-there-live" concert-feel of the set.
And regardless, "Drive" will still make you sweat, ahem.
Accoustic Guitar does not Equal DiFranco.......2001-12-08
I love Ani. And I love Melissa. But they're completely different. To say that Melissa is bad because she's just doing what Ani did years ago is the same as saying that Ani's bad because she's just doing what Joni did years ago, down to the tuning.
This CD represents a heartfelt concert, and Melissa has her own very distinct sound. Having an accoustic guitar does not make a person into Ani DiFranco. So they play the same instrument. Whoopdi-freakin-do. This CD is why Melissa is so great, sputtering out song after song, putting it ALL INTO EVERY SINGLE SONG. Not one song here is less than the best she could have played it.
Worth every penny.
MUST HAVE!.......2001-10-05
This cd ROCKS!!! It's Melissa Ferrick at her best. If you are a hardcore fan, or someone wanting to expand their music repretorie, this cd is for you. Melissa is best live and this cd gives you a chance to experience a live show over and over.

A Great Soundtrack For a Great Movie!.......2006-04-26
This is probably one of the most complete scores you will ever find for an item, and the songs are all well-written and unique from each other. I will review a few specific tracks:
1. Main Title-The Brave Little Toaster has one of the creepiest intros, panning through the dark woods to find an empty cabin full of seemingly lifeless appliences. This haunting track works very well with it.
3. Blanket's Dream-I'm not keen on them leaving in the dialogue here, as you don't get the whole fantasy scene unless you've seen it. Still, Lampy and Radio's amusing lines are here, which is good.
4. The Air Conditioner Blows-For anyone who was terrified of this scene as a kid, this frantic track does the whole thing justice, with a grim ending.
6. Again, the dialogue and sound effects are left in, but they actually help the humor in this track. Lampy's voice is awsome.
8. City of Light-This is my favorite of all the songs. It's a bright and optimistic ballad-ish song when the appliences set out. They're all good singers, even though Lampy speaks a few of his lines. Very catchy.
10. The Pond-This one has to be heard to be believed. It's sound effects of the pond create lovely music, and the highlight is the opera singing fish (don't ask).
11. Toaster's Dream-I just have to say, this is a really scary track to accompany the scene that probably scared me the most when I was younger. That clown...
19. It's a 'B' Movie-This is a spooky number, and will remind you of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Preformed by the junkshop appliences (and a bit by the core group), it's the first showstopper.
22. Into the City-A Beautiful instrumental version of City of Light.
23. Cutting Edge-A techno number sung by the mean appliences that replaced the old ones. It has great lyrics and sounds just like some commercials from that era.
25. Worthless-A disco style song belted out by the poor cars at the junkyard before they all meet their "deaths" at a trash compactor. Catchy and sad at the same time, and a favorite of many.
26. Finale-A seven minute long song. Ranges from hopeful to frantic to a happy ending.
27. End Title-A very happy song to end the soundtrack.
Buy it now. It's everything you've ever dreamed of on the edge...and more!

Musical humorist, serious vocalist, Kacey Jones, deftly mixes clever commentary with flat-out great sound on this, her first-ever, LIVE solo CD. Recorded before a sold-out crowd at the legendary Bluebird Cafe' in Nashville, here's what co-producer and engineer, Vaughn Skow, has to say: "I've recorded many LIVE albums, but never one like this. No words can adequately describe the manner in which Kacey dominated the room that night. It was truly electric and proves, once again, that a great entertainer needs no more than an acoustic guitar and a microphone to produce magic." Four bonus studio tracks round out this fabulous FUN-filled evening with Miss Jones.

This one will make a fan out of anybody!!!!.......1998-12-04
I've been a Statler Brothers fan for years and this is as good as it gets! Each song shows why they are called The Entertainers. Little Jimmy's vocals in "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" will send chills up your spine. This is a must, don't pass it up!!
