This double record from 1972 remains the definitive collection of Rundgren's long career. With Rundren acting as a one-man-band for three-quarters of the session, it was also his bid for a Ph.D. from the college of musical knowledge. He deserved the degree for simply writing the lead-off track, "I Saw the Light," a melodic pop-rock gem that remains Rundgren's greatest hit. Rundgren excels at Beatles-esque pop-rock ("Couldn't I Just Tell You," "Wolfman Jack") and Philadelphia-styled soul ballads ("It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference," "Hello, It's Me"). He also sticks his toe into heavy metal ("Black Maria"), jazz-rock fusion ("Breathless"), and cerebral pop ("The Night the Carousel Burnt Down"). Like most double albums, there's fat on the play-list, but the best of Something/Anything gave credence to Rundgren's boast of being a wizard and a true star. --John Milward

something/anything What a talent!!!!!!!!!.......2007-05-08
I recently bought a Bonnie Tyler CD(super hits) because I loved a couple of her songs(Bright eyes,I'm holding out for a heroe)which by the way is terrific.Every song was great but I loved her duet with Todd Rundgren. I searched the internet for Todd Rundgren and fell in love with him. He is probably the most talented man in the music business. He does it all. I am buying everything he has ever done. The man is amazing.!!!! I went to the Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida recently and I can understand why they have a wall dedicated to him. My dream would be to meet him to tell him how wonderful he is. DEBBIE
Masterpiece.......2006-08-06
An amazing double album by , at the time, a very young Todd. An interesting variety of songs. Todd can rock, he can croon, he can play bubble gum, he can jam, he can harmonize, he's got soul. "Hello it me" was a fav when I was young and it is still way up there today.
It so wrong that this ultra talented musician, song writer, performer, producer, and chance taker is not in the rock and roll hall of fame.
excellent double album.......2006-05-23
todd rundgren really proves to be great in many different areas on this double album. he dabbles in a bunch of musical styles, writes some great songs with great melodies, produces everything, he's a one man band, he's a band leader, he's a one man carole king album, he gets heavy, and does some pretty weird experiments. one man... doing all of that! wow! listen and enjoy.
LOVE THAT TODD.......2006-03-23
Todd Rundgren is definitely one of the best songwriter's ever. Pop, rock, jazz...the man can write anything. This double album is awesome and one of his best. Besides the obvious hits, Wolfman Jack is rockin' as is Black Maria. I recommend it.
Todd Rundgren: Always A Wizard, A True Star.......2006-02-08
This is in my top 10 all time favorite albums. It has everything from pop to hard rock and some hints of everything else...well, okay, no country(Thank you, Todd). There is some viking music, though.
The Runt's sound is always very uncharacteristic for his time. He was way ahead of the music crowd and not influenced by what was popular at the moment. On at least one cd in this album, Todd plays all of the instruments, recording in his living room, and I heard that the backup singers were neighbors on his street. Both cd's are perfect. After this album, Todd was off to Utopia.
Top forty songs from this album: I Saw the Light, Hello It's Me, It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference. Todd's other top forty hits: "We've Got to Get You a Woman," is on Runt. He also did an amazingly faithful version of Beach Boys "Good Vibrations" where he was probably playing all instruments and doing all vocals.
An earlier album, that has a simlar energy to this one, is titled "A Wizard A True Star:" many varied musical sounds and there is also a great version of 'Cool Jerk."
Todd was punk before punk. But he was much more than that. He was a musical genius who missed or avoided the big spotlight.

Nice and Cool.......2007-07-08
This fine example of popular cool singing is very fine and agreable, although I'm not quite certain that the jazz criteria are met to the foolest extent (there are equally cool but more jazzy artists - for instance Mel Torme)... This is very good singing and quite competent orchestral playing, but on the level of lesser performances by Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald.
Great thing is that this CD brings both versions of the album; I recommend the later stereo recording; Christy seems to develop a bit between two versions.
Rugolo's arrangements are OK, but not quite to my taste.
It must be June..........2007-03-08
Of all the great jazz ladies, June Christy is still very much a particular favourite of mine. Her singing is totally organic, straight to the point. Nothing sounds artificial or forced. Here, Blue Note Records has reissued both stereo and mono versions of her 1953 album 'Something Cool' on one great-value disc. While Christy found initial fame under the musical direction of Stan Kenton, her series of albums on the Capitol label (through to the early 1960s) acutely displayed her sublime talents as a jazz diva, and never more so than on her debut platter.
Under the guidance of Pete Rugolo and his orchestra, Christy glides through "It Could Happen to You" (in one of the greatest arrangements EVER), "Midnight Sun", "I Should Care", and "I'll Take Romance" (also memorably covered by Eydie Gorme that same year). The title track, "Something Cool" (B. Barnes), became Christy's signature song.
The original 1953 album of 'Something Cool' was a big success for June Christy and established her as a formidable talent. During the first innovations of stereo LPs, Christy went back into the Capitol studios with Rugolo to re-record the album for the stereophonic format in 1960.
Technically, there isn't much to distinguish the stereo and mono cuts of 'Something Cool'. June Christy delivers fabulous vocals on both of them, but brings a refined showmanship to the stereo version. Her rendition of "Something Cool" is a bit more calculated and smokey on the 1960 set, too.
It's so wonderful to be able to relish June Christy on both versions of her landmark debut album.

Two Albums over the time STEREO came into power.......2006-09-06
You HAVE to get this album not only for June Christy's great skill as a band vocalist, and for the stellar playing of the many fine jazz and studio cats who laid down these tracks (many come from Kenton. . .but don't think that this is just another Kenton album. . Christy definitely had her own album here!).
You HAVE to get this to hear what the exact same arrangements played by mostly the same performers sound like in beautiful HiFi MONO and then again in beautiful STEREO. It is a treat to your hearing faculties to compare the two. Like DAY and NIGHT. . .Night and Day. . .Hey! There's a song in that line. . .
The album is great with or without the Mono / Stereo thing. . .but I sure wish this kind of thing was done more often (compare one version of a particular recording, to a Re-recording of the same thing. It's great. By the way. . .
June Christy was an excellent singer, who became famous with Stan Kenton in the early 1950's. This album is a Concept Album, in the sense that it projects a sort of bluesy. . .boosey. . .saloon singer ethos. Christy is one who definitely lived this and sent out heartfelt sound in this arena. It is too bad that she did not avoid the ethos. But we can be happy that we have the wonderful sound of June really singing her heart out. The backing arrangements and band are second to none.

The Best.......2006-02-21
I missed her when I was a little kid in the 50s. It wasn't until I lived with a woman older than me in the 1970s who was a big fan from her own high school days that I heard June Christy. My father had been a big band fan and I was pretty familiar with Ella and Sara and Billie Holiday. I thought white girl singers at the time were all Rosemary Clooney and Doris Day. Then I heard June and she took my heart away. Now, at 55, I have all her capitol records, an autographed picture from the forties, a copy of her obituary that was published in the Chicago Tribune in 1990, and I still play her records (now CDs), and they still give me that exquisite joy you get from something that is emotionally perfect. This CD is particularly good, having first the mono recordings of these songs, and then the stereo recordings, in the right order. I believe this to be one of the first real concept type albums, in the sense that it fits together remarkably well, in the order that it is in. I know there was an initial shorter release on the older vinyl. And I know there are some ep versions of this set, but I am convinced that the order of the songs as it appears twice on this CD is the order that June and Pete Rugolo put it in and meant it to be heard in. This album/CD is a story, a narrative. And you can find in it a real person. June's singing, while not technically as good as some of her contemporaries, is stunning because of the intimacy she brings to the lyrics. She is right there, actually living the song. And the arrangements are just perfect. This is one of the greatest records anybody in any genre ever made.
Cause the weathers so hot..........2005-09-04
Recorded in the fifties under the direction of Pete Rugalo, one of the great albums of the era, "Something Cool", is not to be missed. If you are not familiar with," The Misty Miss Christy", you are in for a treat. A unique song stylist, who's voice will delight and spellbind you. This recording is the combined monoral and stereo sessions, for the album was so popular that they went back into the studio and re recorded tunes in the new process-stereo. The title tune is a story song about a woman in a bar who regales her gentleman caller with snapshots from her life-real or imagined. A great song on a disc that is loaded with memorable tunes. This is one of those "desert island" recordings. I'm listening to it at this very moment-it's the most!

From the first cut to the last, this rollicking CD is proof of Pryor's immense talent and influence. His impression of a windy preacher ("Eulogy") is the routine that launched a thousand black comics that came after. "Life is not the ultimate test. The ultimate test is whether your ass will survive Death. Nobody we know has passed this test, least of all this sorry mother." Neither imitated nor equaled is Pryor's signature character "Mudbone," who dominates the middle of the CD. Those hysterical long-form routines would be enough to make this an essential pick, but jolts of painful laughter like "Cocaine" and "Just Us" make Is It Something I Said? the favorite of any Pryor-phile. A great recording of a great standup at the height of his powers. --Michael Gerber

Mudbone - The storyteller.......2007-02-25
Wow!!!
The first time I heard this I was in school and a buddy of mine let me borrow his "album" to take home and play. I was just a youngster so I had to sneak it the house and play it on my "phonograph" at a very low volume.
I was in tears!
To quote a line from the 'Mudbone' skit, "I had to bite a hole in my damn lip to keep from laughing".
This CD is a classic and a true testament to the genius that Richard Pryor was. All of U diehard Pryor fans know what I mean.
All of the tracks are raw, gritty, and to the point with comparisons to different races of people and their flaws that will make U smile if not split your side. (Caution: U may not want to consume foods or beverage while listening)
:-)
I personally love the 'Mudbone' character because he told different stories while doing this skit. For example, "Little Feets".
How can U not laugh about a voodoo woman named Ms. Rudolph whose pee turned blue after peeing on a guys feet who was hexed.
Or the story of Mudbone sawing the bottom out of an outhouse and waiting for a 400 pound woman to fall through it for revenge. LOL!
Oh my god, Richard Pryor was the king of absurd craziness and reality comedy! R.I.P.
U will not be disappointed with this CD.
Rest in peace, Richard.......2005-12-28
The year was 1976, and I was 17 going on 18. All of my friends knew a Richard Pryor routine. I had only heard a few jokes repeated while hanging out before and after school, but I had never heard Rich's entire stand up routine until my father made a tactical error--he bought the album and tried to hide it from us kids in the hall closet. Please. If you want to hide something from teenagers, don't use the hall closet. That's the first place we (myself, my sister and my brother) looked. It was on after that. Our friends gathered at our house after school for leftover meatloaf (or hot link) sandwiches, potato chips, Hostess Ding Dongs and "Is It Something I Said". We often choked on our food because we couldn't stop laughing. "New Niggers" was one of our favorites: "Okay troops, try it again!" "Niccuh, niccuh, niccuh!" "Well, that's close...if you get your a*s kicked you know you made it!" But my all time favorite was "Mudbone". I know some people on this page thought it was too long, but maybe it's one of those cultural things--I have relatives down South that talk and act like Mudbone. "Swear to God!" That's what the routine is so hysterically funny. I recognize the characters, and believe me, they aren't as far fetched as you might think. My aunt in Jacksonville, Florida is the physical manifestation of Miz Rudolph. All of my friends knew people like Mudbone and Miz Rudolph. And Rich had us falling off the couches in my parents' den, tears rolling down our faces as we laughed uncontrollably. Yes, this is an all time classic album. Thanks for the memories, Richard.
Moderately funny.......2005-12-12
The album could have been a lotter better without the 11 minute Mudbone skit. But, the personal stuff makes it all worthwhile. R.I.P Legend
one of his best .......2004-11-03
i have this on tape and find myself listening to it all of the time.eulogy is funny as hell and what better way to start off the tape.his work here is funny from the start, all the way to the end.now don't get me wrong, his other work is great as well but this one really stands out.it's hard to believe that next year this tape will be 30 years old.this just shows you that he was way ahead of his time and after 30 years this tape is still funny as hell and everyone can still relate to it even after all of this time.
Body-Breakingly Hilarious and Insightful.......2004-09-22
For the longest time, I have thought that observational truths were highly prone to being the most piercing of things: I have believed that the truth could either hurt (or disturb) you terribly, or make you laugh so hard, to the point of hysteria--or a combination of both extremes. There are many things to put this theory to the test, but to cut it all short, all one would need to do (if by chance it hasn't been done already) is experience the observational humor of Richard Pryor to possibly get a better understanding of what I am talking about. This classic comedy album from 1975 is a prime example.
Richard Pryor has been hailed as a genius by many, and I would have to agree: it takes plenty of intelligence and natural talent to be a comedian for starters, but to also turn many disturbing observational truths of everyday life into something painfully, body-breakingly hilarious takes a whole lot of something as well. From the very beginning, to the tail-end of this CD, 1975's _Is It Something I Said?_ is a non-stop laugh fest, that personally gets *me* laughing so loud and hard, I end up pretty much abusing almost every part of my body in the process: my throat, my lungs, my sides, my stomach--they all end up feeling beaten and worn-out. Richard's takes on drugs, sex, race & racism, relationships, and politics in general are every bit as painfully observational as they are profane--and did I mention HILARIOUS? The racy quality of the material found here makes so much of what's referred to as "cutting-edge" these days, seem so contrived and unaffecting; Richard's observations seem just as relevant now--if not more so--as they were 30 years ago. I couldn't be graphic in pointing out some of the sickeningly funny moments on this disc -- and there are MANY -- but I should say that the opening one-two punch of "Eulogy," and "Shortage of White People," and Richard's take on his own battle with cocaine addiction in the "Cocaine" bit get me cracking up SO hysterically, I sometimes need to be careful not to make myself sick. And again, those are just a few of the MANY hysterical blasts found here.
Richard Pryor is considered a comedic legend for a reason. This album here is a good example as to why he is considered as such. Just don't play it for the kids, and for the love of god *don't* play it during the middle of the night; you most certainly will disturb the beauty rest of your family, and your neighbors. And you know what could happen if you disturb one person's beauty rest: just imagine what would happen if you disturbed the beauty rest of many...

Doin' Something, Soulive's Blue Note debut and second album overall, sees the organ-based groove-jazz trio creatively stretching beyond their heralded debut, Turn It Out. Where that session was a lean, live cooker that cemented the trio's appeal to the acid-jazz and jam-band crowd, Doin' Something reaps the rewards of time spent in the studio--there are overdubs and, more importantly, an ambitious, varied overall vision. Rather than just rattling off a dozen jams based on a single line, the tunes here are actual songs with memorable melodies that draw upon hip-hop, soul, funk, and pop to go along with the rump-shaking jazz grooves. Furthering the funk foundation, the trio--guitarist Eric Krasno and brothers Neal and Alan Evans on organ and drums, respectively, also brought in James Brown-veteran trombonist Fred Wesley to lead a four-piece brass section (and contribute horn arrangements) on a few tracks. This is the sound of a hot young band putting its best foot forward, and the great thing is, you won't be able to keep your foot from bouncing along. --Tad Hendrickson

The Blue Note Debut, Soulive!!!.......2005-06-22
This is a great follow up to Soulive's first album. Now they're signed to probaly the greatest record company in the country; Blue Note, which also hosts Medeski Martin Wood, Terence Blanchard, Joe Lavano, Charlie Hunter, Cassandra Wilson, and many more.
I am a huge fan of organ trios. Sometimes I wish they just recorded with the three of them, but the horns do sound nice. This is tight grooves. Soulive are the kings of modern soul funk jazz.
Soulive hasn't released a studio album in a while. And it's really bugging me. I want to hear how these guys are progressing. With their last studio release, Next, Soulive proved to have some soul left in them, but we haven't gotten anything in a while.
I happened to catch a Soulive preformance on BET jazz the other night, and these guys were smoking. Smoking soul, Soulive knows how to bring down the house.
I think one of the reasons Soulive is so successful is that they appeal to everyone. They have the style, the looks, that appeal to the younger generation, yet they can still get down and groove and play some real jazz.
I think we're only in the early stages of Soulive, but my guess is that they grow into a very decent band. They are one of my favorites, and probaly will be for years to come.
In the mean time, keep listening to this funky album! It's got some killer grooves that can put you right in the mood. Soulive, the great soul jazz ensemble!
fresh sound.......2004-04-02
Great sound a -little smooth at times though. This is a great trio of young players but the guitarist's "hep-jazz-cat" look is pretty funny.
Amazing Soul-Funk-Jazz.......2002-10-15
Before I delve into my review, I must say that this will be rather biased, as I know the drummer somewhat well and have other connections to the band (namely, their manager, jeff Krasno, Eric's brother). But I digress. This was my first Soulive album I bought, after seeing them 3 times live. I wasn't sure if I'd like the studio efforts for I know that they work extremely well live. However, after the first listen though, I was hooked. Yes, it doesn't have that same raw energy that they posess live or on Turn It Out; yes the sonic qualities and mastering of the recording may not be top top notch; but it just gives it its own flavor, which I think should therefore be viewed in a slightly different light from how you'd view them live to truly appreciate the efforts on here, which are plentiful. Onto the music.
The album opens with one of their better known tunes, Hurry Up...And Wait. If this doesn't get your foot tapping, then I don't know what will. I do not tire of this song ever. Definitely an album highlight. These guys posess that organic funk groove that makes the Meters or James Brown so much funkier than all the newer stuff held down by click tracks or (ugh) drum machines. However, as another reviewer noted, it's not AS organic as MMW gets. Next is one of three tracks to have a 4 piece horn section. Now I share the same sentiments with most other reviewers on here that Soulive loses some of it's essence having these guys play along. The tracks (Doin' Something, Cannonball and Roll The Tape) just don't seem to be as spontaneous as the others as just a trio or plus one horn feel, which of course would make sense since it is trio plus horn arrangement. But still, I prefer it to be just as a trio or trio plus horn. Track 3 is Evidence, and this is the debut of Neal playing piano, which some may not like, but I absolutely love. This is another one of my favorite tracks off this album by far. Next is another well known tune, One in Seven, and is one of the more distinctive cuts. Bridge to 'Bama is next and is quite good. Check out how the tenor sax man (not detrimental to the song in any way) always comes back into the same melody during his solo, giving the song a strong sense of unity for which to expand off of. Cannonball is next, one of the horn section pieces, and is fine in its own right, but questionable as to it belonging on here.
Shaheed is track 7, possessing a rather memorable melody played down low on Neal's B3, and serves as a great transition from Cannonball into Romantic, the album's one vocal piece. Stephanie McKay provides those, and one can tell she has as much soul as the three backing her in easily the most emotionally moving piece on Doin' Something. Afterwards is another one of my favorite tracks, Solid. It just has that quirkiness to it which I've grown to love from these guys. Next is Roll The Tape, which I like best of the three horn section pieces. Some of the solos on here seem rather haunting for the key/mode they're chosing, very modern and cool. Last is another on of my favorite cuts, Joe Sample. Two simple melodies start it off and they end it all with one statement of the Steppin' riff off of Turn It Out. But wait! Probably the most surprising thing of this album exists after the song supposedly ends. It is Neal playing solo piano in more of a true jazz-classical style, and it is astounding; first because one most likely wouldn't expect it from him, and second, one wouldn't expect to hear it on a Soulive album! Assuming you can appreciate the piano greats like Bill Evans, McCoy, Chick and Herbie, you should love this. This album I hope I should not tire of for a long time to come.
Horn Controversy.......2002-03-30
As there seems to be a bit of controversy over the horn section I thought I'd break the tie. First of I play trumpet so there's nothing I like more than some fat brass licks and solos, however, most of the tracks with horn arangements seem a little out of place and choppy if you will. Also in comparison with their first album this one does have a smooth and slightly overproduced sound which seems to be taking them farther and father from their original vibe of "live preformance as the escence of music" (or somthin like that). Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad albumto put on and groove to, it just doesn't have that same raw, in-the-club, jam feel that turn it out did.
Soulive is amazing.......2002-02-07
I love this CD, and would definately recommend it to anyone.

Great compilation.......2002-05-10
I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings.
A disappointment.......2001-12-15
There's a reason you've probably never heard of most of the songs and shows on this album, not to mention most of the artists. This is a second-rate collection of second-rate numbers performed by mostly second-rate artists. In the case of the shows that were revivals, the performances on the original cast recordings were better. Don't waste your money.

More good Flanagan.......2006-02-11
This is a very enjoyable trio session from 1978. Flanagan displays his mastry as always, and the tune selections includes compositions by Monk, Horace Silver, and Wes Montgomery. One interesting inclusion is the use of electric piano, which I hadn't heard him do before.

Tell Van the (old) Man Something - stop singing!!!!.......2004-06-17
In a perfect world, this would be a great mini CD and a masterly tribute to Mose Allison. Georgie Fame and Ben Sidran excel both as singers and keyboard players - excellent phrasing and keyboard technique - who do full justice to Mose Allison's wonderful songs. Fame I am familiar with, but Sidran is new to me. His playing on this album is what the jazz piano should be, dazzling but un-fussy. Fame and Sidran complement each other perfectly. It would be interesting to see them do more albums together. Mose Allison must have been tickled pink at this paring.
Sadly, this is not a perfect world and this is not a mini CD. Van Morrison sings on half the songs and he is uniformly dreadful. He sounds like he is singing through a mouthful of mushy peas. The gentle humour and subtle craft of Allison's song writing is butchered by his self-important, pompous and soulless delivery. It is sad to think that in the 60s and 70s, he was one of rock music's best singers. Recordings such as Listen to the Lion or Madame George or his haunting version of Richard Cory are a testimony to this. These days are long gone. He has let himself go physically and artistically and he should call it a day and retire. Listening to him is now an annoying embarrassment.
Don't let Morrison put you off buying this recording. You can set your CD player to skip the Morrison tracks and just listen to Georgie Fame and Ben Sidran who are worth the price of this CD alone. It might also be an idea to type Ben Sidran's name into the Amazon Quicksearch and find out what else he has done.
DISCOVERING !.......2003-01-15
I usually bought everything by Van Morrison, so I did with this one. And what a great surprise !!! I discovered one of the best composers of the 20th Century !
I had the chance to talk with Mr Allison last November in the Jazz Showcase in Chicago and I told him I knew him by chance, because this album. He replies: "Yeah! I know ... this is a good album!". I asked him to play Benediction (one of my big temptations here!) but he told me he didn't have anybody to sing the harmonics ...
So, I stayed for the second set, we were just 12 of us, and he was performing songs from this album and he was looking at me. What else can I say ... ? A great pleasure and a luxury.
I got a picture by him with his signature, and believe me, the bass player told me he never does that, but that night in Chicago ... I touched the moon !
Try to get some by himself, like Allison in Wonderland, or the two discs he recorded in London last year.
great album.......2001-09-14
When I first played this it struck me how much Van Morrison sounded like Robert Johnson. Unbeliveablly great record. Get and you'll hear some great music.
I'd give six stars if I could........2000-02-18
This album finally arrived today after my long and eager wait. I think I've played it at least six times already! "Songs of Mose Allison" oozes charm and it will put a smile on your face and a skip in your step. I have been a fan of Van Morrison's music for some time and now thanks to him I've realized the amazing talent of Mose's songwriting. Who knows, maybe some day soon my collection of Mose Allison's albums might rival my collection of Van's...
What a Find!.......1999-11-06
Great cd, shows the tremendous versatillity of Mose, and Van Morrison. Great songs, if you like this c.d., you obviosly have great taste and would love Van Morrison w/ John Lee Hooker as well as pure Mose.

Raoul in Colorado.......2004-12-31
Paul Horn takes 1960s contempory west-coast jazz to the edge with this incredible blow-out album. All musicians offer peak performances-Paul Moer on piano, Emil Richards, vibes; Jimmy Bonds is superb on bass as is Paul Horn on alto sax, flute and clarinet. The unique progressive melodies and arrangements are as exilerating now as when they were first introduced. No other album better exemplifies the creative genius of Paul Horn when he was at the top of his game. You have to hear it to believe it and once you hear it you will never forget it. Buy this CD now while its still available.

Brilliant Band.......2007-04-27
I forst saw DBS at EdgeFest in 1995, Along with Adam Ant, Letters to Cleo, Veruca Salt, POL, and someother bands. I believe that the Toadies and Nixons were there, I may be getting them mixed with other bands. Anyways, They were clearly the best band on state that day. I also have seen in concert 3 other times and their performance can compete with any other concert that I have gone to. I can honestly say that I can listen to all of their albums without skipping over any songs. Being from Dallas and also working with Clay Bergus's Mother-In-Law, I may be Biased since they are from Denton.
They are a great band and I will be one of the first in line if they ever do some type of Reunion concert
P.S. There was a Special Release of "Home" that had extra songs. They did a version of "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles. The other one I cannot remember, but it was a great song
Always did like this group and album, One hit wonders of the 90's.......2006-12-09
Many people are mad because Breakfast at Tiffany's is different sounding than many of the other songs on this album, but I enjoy the whole thing, always have from the day I bought it back in 1995. It is unfortunate that the record company didn't push other songs as much as this breakfast at tiffany's, like Halo, or I can wait, but some bands historically have to become one hit wonders. Like Dexy's midnight runners from the eighties with Come' on Eileen, or Gloria Gainer with "I will survive" in the 70's, and even "the byrds" in the 60's with "turn turn". Yes one song is great, but be objective, as a music fan, this album is good, just give it a chance.
One fantastic song, but that's all.......2005-12-03
Three stars for the album, but it's really 5+ stars for "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and 1 star for the rest. To my ears, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" is a terrific song from start to finish (great writing, great singing/playing, great recording quality), while the rest of the album is complete "throwaway" or empty filler. The other songs aren't offensive, they are just boring (incredibly light & pointless acoustic stuff). The "other" songs on the CD don't even sound like they were recorded by the same band that did "Breakfast at Tiffany's". What a shame that the band couldn't give us something else at least remotely resembling that one song (on this album, I haven't heard their others), oh well. So if you buy this, don't have high expectations for the other songs, just figure you are getting it as an expensive single. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised by some of the other songs, but unfortunately I wasn't.
if you liked the B @ T's song..........2004-12-28
I noticed a lot of folks liked "Breakfast at Tiffany's", then some either liked the rest of it and some didn't. If you like that song (and it is kinda catchy), you are highly likely to like Pop Art, a band I really enjoyed in the mid-late eighties. There is a retrospective CD available, so it's not like you have to go a-hunting for old vinyl. When B@T came out, it was killing me how much it sounded like a Pop Art song. Thought I'd share that obscure gem with anyone who might be reading these reviews!
Read "Mobile Estates" review, change a few song titles........2004-12-10
Seriously...I never saw this coming, and I certainly don't know what to make of it, but I feel EXACTLY the same way about Home (especially Re. DBS) as Mobile Estates (especially Re. Citizen King). Compare and contrast:
* The breakthrough hit that's really easy to identify because it's completely unlike everything else they ever did.
* The general "life isn't the greatest, but we're making the most of it" mentality (a dependable alt-rock staple).
* Lots of seemingly thrown together lyrics that kinda make more sense after repeated listenings.
* A consistently vibrant but still fairly mellow beat; the tracks almost blend into each other.
Add it all up and...well, if you're a fan of alt-rock, you'll like it. Plain and simple.
(P.S. I was going to add You Can't Stop The Bum Rush, but even I think that's a little too much of a stretch. :-D)
