Staarfinger Presents…SAYJING RAND. A compelling new artist with a refreshingly distinctive voice. Although here you will find many of the electronic beats often associated with clubbing (particularly in the chill-out rooms), in SAYJING RAND's world they play second fiddle to the meat and potatoes of the CD, namely RAND'S confessional poetry set against his multilayered, seductive vocals. Sometimes reminiscent of Moby, Seal or Depeche Mode (that blast from the past), RAND has found a rather unique vehicle for his introspective, tantalizing (and sometimes humorous) lyrics in the hook-laden neo-electronica and edgy guitars that punctuate his first effort like distant drums. Often deeply spiritual - sometimes mysterious - the lyrics cover a wide range of topics from disenchantment to soulful yearning to thoughts on a distant father figure. The CD begins and ends with "Confess, Confess," which is no less than an exhortation to strip away much of the ordinary and mundane from our lives, much as this CD strips away much of the commonplace that we have come to take for granted from pop radio and even so called alternative musical venues. What you will hear on this CD is truly original and, though RAND'S quiet, hypnotic voice may require a little getting used to, it will win you over with its soulfulness and honesty. Indeed, it is the honesty of the lyrics and the vocals that really make this CD stand apart from the crowd. Whether the message is brooding or uplifting, it is always deeply personal. A beautiful background, smooth beats, lovely lyrics; A real soul-searching cd that everyone can enjoy and relate to! I put it in my cd player and it was over before I knew it! Not that the album is short but time just seems to pass when you get into this music! I would reccomend it to everyone, no matter what type of music you like. There is no real genra to categorize this one! *APPLAUSE*

I love listening to this cd after a long day of school or work. Its an album that you can totally get into, lay down and just zone and meditate on the music. The instrumentals are smooth but spacey...sort of. The sound is hard to describe: Trans but not. A spiritual journey through beautiful lyrics and music. Techno-ish but instumental...Does that make sense? Just take my word for it. Definately worth having in anyone's collection. AND HE'S REALLY CUTE TOO! ;-)

My new favourite song is "Confess Confess."

There's something about the dreamy background and the super-earthy backbeat that suddenly knocks on the door: Confess, Confess -- and it suddenly *really does* make me want to confess. Just do it.

Sayjing does really unusual combinations of instruments well: flutes [of Pan?] draw you in, quickly progressing to an electric-guitar-romp-of-freedom hook - really making you feel the vibrant, very alive landscape of Confession - this cool instrument combination. He layers in an almost rap-like mantra about the ease of being human. I feel like this artist really experientially feels out his music and sincerely fuses it with his lyrics.

In case you think his vision only encompasses how to feel the best out of life, "Fake" has rock-group vocals and a killer beat to edge you out. Ever feel like someone wishes you were...something else? Ever play that for a while?

What really strikes me that's so unusual and fresh about this artist is how good he is at genres of music. If I never read his lyrics or really "heard" the words, I'd simply groove with his beats. "Summer is Here" has got a great bass. "I believe" transports you to a cocktail lounge with streams of electronica to percolate it up a level. "Love is Right Now (Evolution)" has a contemporary world-band beat. The fact that all of these songs have contemplative lyrics about being real and valuable in life is, well, icing on the cake.

Doctor Hook.......2002-11-28

As with all of Dr Hook's early output, this album of magical content from one of Rock's all time zainy bands is priceless and timeless. The other reviewers seem to have covered it, so I'll just encorage you to buy it, then come visit the other Hook fans and original members of the band, in the Official Dr Hook online Fanclub and community. We'll be glad to HOOK up!!

One of their best but not THE best.......2002-07-17

I really love this album, it's not their best but it's pretty darn good. I personally prefer it on vinyl but that's just me. If you can get it on vinyl then go for it you WON'T be disappointed it's the BEST album cover I've EVER seen. I'd get for that alone.
It pretty much includes a mix of alot of their pop stuff and nothing risky but hey that's record co.'s for ya. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 the half point diff is just cause Greatest Hits has more hits on it.
