Special 20
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Special 20 is Tim Easton's first solo album. It happened spontaneously as the result of Tim suddenly finding himself without a band. He'd been playing with a group called The Haynes Boys and when they parted ways, Tim was still rarin' to go and had a sack full of songs. He cut the record in Nashville at Alex The Great Studios. The feel is somewhere between folk and rock. "I remember thinking how cool it was that Neil Young could have heavy tunes with big guitars and quiet, acoustic numbers on the same record," Tim recalled. He used Matt Surgeson from The Haynes Boys on bass and a kid from Memphis by the name of Ross Rice on drums. The legendary Al Perkins sat in on Dobro and steel. Tim didn't have a label deal at the time but that wasn't going to stop him. He started his own, called it Heathen and put the album out himself in 1999. "Listening to it now," Tim chuckles, "I hear an almost angry writer but also the beginnings of a more contemplative, singer-songwriter. I certainly am proud it's getting a re-birthing of sorts!"

Customer Reviews:
Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04
This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!
Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12
This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!
Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20
Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!
Frank's view.......2006-08-19
This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.
Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08
I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.
The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!
I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.
The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Album Description
The sounds for this series were recorded in 3D by Chuck Plaisance. His recording system is designed to simulate human hearing, using a binaural head microphone to capture depth, height, width, as well as directional movement. No special equipment is needed to get 3D sound from traditional stereo speakers. In fact, these albums will make your system - speakers or headphones - sound like it never has before. You are the experience.
All pieces contain compositions of pure Nature Sounds produced, arranged, edited and mastered by Chuck Plaisance and Suzanne Doucet. (aka Virtual Audio Environment).
Customer Reviews:
Perfect To Fall Asleep To.......2006-07-20
I bought this CD because I didn't really know which type of sound I'd relax most too be it ocean, rain, forest, etc. Well I love all the sounds on this sampler, and I play it every night. My hubby says that 20 mins into the CD there's a rooster crowing, but I wouldn't know because by that time I'm already fast asleep. Great stuff!
3-Dimensional Pure Nature Sounds.......2005-11-21
This excellent compilation of 20 different Nature Sound albums was out of print, but is now finally available again through ONLY NEW AGE MUSIC(repackaged and remastered). This album creates a journey through different Nature scenes all recorded by Chuck Plaisance, with a special microphone that simulates human hearing. The sounds were then edited and composed, arranged and mixed like an orchestrated piece but still remain pure Sounds of Nature. Like Bernie Krause Doucet and Plaisance take essential Nature Sounds and recreate an ambience that takes you even deeper into the essence of Nature.

Customer Reviews:
Mostly nineties recordings.......2005-01-13
Ray has had a very long career, during which he has recorded some of the funniest songs in popular music. The first five tracks are taken from the sixties, seventies and eighties although Shriner's convention is presented here as a live recording. The other oldies (The streak, Gitarzan, Ahab the Arab, Bridget the midget) are the original recordings.
The remaining fifteen tracks were recorded for three albums - Lend me your ears (1990), #1 with a bullet (1991) and Classic Ray Stevens (1993). They are all original songs except Help me make it through the night, which Ray begins in conventional style but then decides to step up the tempo with all guns blazing - it certainly makes a change from the other versions of this classic and is mildly amusing.
The original songs may not quite match the brilliance of some of his earlier classics but they are still highly entertaining, particularly The all-American two week summer family vacation, Back in the doghouse again, Ballad of Jake McClusky, Tabloid news, A little blue-haired lady,, Super cop, Used cars and Where do my socks go?
This is not the best place to start a collection of Ray's music but if you enjoy his earlier stuff, you will surely love this too.
A Great Collection!.......2002-06-27
With the exception of #1-5 being Ray Stevens classics, this CD is a collection of his days at Curb Records. Curb chose some of the best cuts from his albums: "Classic Ray Stevens", "#1 With a Bullet", and "Lend Me Your Ears." They have done a super job of picking some great songs. This is the best CD I can find on covering Ray's work from 1990-1993. It's a must have from any comedy or Ray Stevens fan as the original three CDs are hard to come by. You'll love it!
An Awesome CD.......2000-10-25
If your a Ray Stevens fan then this cd is a must it has all his best songs on it. This Cd will leave you in stiches. Great for all ages.

Album Description
On Thursday, May 30, 2002, Barbara Morrison took to the stage at the 9:20 Special in San Francisco and delivered one of the truly memorable nights of live music for dancers in recent history. Backed by a band of some of the best musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area, Barbara energized, enchanted and amazed a sold out crowd of Lindy Hoppers and Jazz and Blues aficionados. Recorded by one of the top live recording engineers in Northern California, the magic of this evening is now finally available for everyone in Barbara's latest CD release: "Barbara Morrison Live at the 9:20 Special".
Customer Reviews:
very special!!.......2006-08-14
ms. morrison's talent and effort are on full display here. her selection of music is outstanding. the musicians working with her are excellent. the pacing of the show is exact. this cd is fun and jaw-dropping. it's live music at its best. i wish this cd went on and on.....
buyers beware: you can't go wrong with this cd!
This album has energy! Relive the excitement!.......2004-12-11
As with other reviewers, I was present at the time of this recording and this CD faithfully captures the excitement of the evening.
The energy of the performance and the crowd will flow from your speakers and into your soul. You'll find yourself chanting along with the audience on "Everyday (I Have the Blues)", and tapping your foot to every tune.
I challenge you to sit still during "Never Make Your Move Too Soon / Smack Dab In the Middle". It can't be done, the music is so infectious you'll be up and dancing before you know it.
I own other CDs by this wonderful performer but the quality of the recording, the energy of the performance, and the awesome selection of songs makes this my favorite.
If you happen to be one of the lucky few who were there that evening and had the privilege of dancing the night away to these songs, you simply MUST have this CD. Relive the event everyday by putting this CD in your player.
--Adam
You Won't Be Sorry.......2004-07-27
A friend of mine turned me on to the music of Barbara Morrison. She is awesome. Her voice has such a cool sound, perfect for blues and jazz delivery. Buy this CD. You won't be disappointed.
Barbara Morrison is ELECTRIC!.......2004-05-11
I attended this recording (a couple hundred of us danced while she sang... what a trip!), and the CD faithfully reproduces the wonderful joy and exuberance and depth and soul of Barbara Morrison and her fabulous band.
You can't help but smile when you listen to this album. Get it!
Do you like Jazz, Lindy Hop or great music? - BUY THIS CD!.......2003-11-15
Okay - I admit it - I think Paul and Sharon are really cool.
In case you are wondering - Paul Overton and Sharon Ashe are world class dance instructors who definitely know 3 things:
-They know how to dance and teach dance
-They know how to throw a great dance(the 9:20 Special)
-They have impeccable taste in music
This CD combines those three things - this 9:20 Special combined a great singer backed by a fantastic band with an energetic group of dancers and got one special evening. Unfortunately I can't say I was there, but I am happy to say they were nice enough to put it on CD
If you like jazz, blues or standards you will love Barbara Morrison and her band of accomplished musicians ripping thru this collection of great songs. Just look at the track list.
If you like to lindy - this is a must for your collection. Although some of the songs are little long, they are all perfect for dancing. They were even nice enough to put BPMS on the track list
Listen to it, love it, buy it.
