Best Off Broadway Show.......2001-03-14
This show is a blast! It's a very funny story about some comics trying to make it in the big leagues. The music is so entertaining and the guys are hilarious. If you like comedy, you'll love Three Guys.

Customer Reviews:
BEWARE!!! Unauthorized recording! Poorly mastered!.......2003-02-26
I will get straight to the point: The CD is a poorly mastered, unauthorized recording of the original Carmen Jones cast recording using ancient recordings of the original 78 records. Pearl Records did not, repeat DID NOT receive Decca Broadway's permission to make this recording. However, Decca Broadway DID remaster FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTERS OF "CARMEN JONES" which sounds 100 times better than this thing and includes liner notes and pictures! Purchase the Decca Broadway recording instead. Frankly, this recording should rot!
A Unique Blend!.......2001-07-03
This soundtrack is a unique blend of vocals and brilliant instrumentals. While the songs aren't great, the performance is really wonderful!

Customer Reviews:
JULIE BUDD SHINES IN A HACKNEYED, PEDESTRIAN MUSICAL . . . . . .......2007-04-17
LATE NITE COMIC, Brian Gari's studio recording of his failed Broadway show, was Original Cast Records' first CD release. Fortunately, their reputation doesn't ride on this recording alone. Among the company's gems (I'm not being sarcastic) are A . . . MY NAME WILL ALWAYS BE ALICE; THE BAKER'S WIFE; CARMELINA; IN TROUSERS; ONWARD, VICTORIA; to name a few. Composer/lyricist Gari based the musical on his relationship with a ballet dancer - sung on this recording by the marvelous Julie Budd - a tedious and predictable story line if there ever was one. It comes to life only when Ms. Budd (and, briefly, during Robin Kaiser's number) is involved, but unfortunately, she is given very little to do: "Clara's Dancing School," a lovely ballad; "It Had To Happen Sometime," a duet with Brian Gari; "When I'm Moving," an up-tempo number; and a reprise of "It Had To Happen Sometime." However, except for the first song, the rest are encumbered by trite melodies and hackneyed lyrics. In fact, the only lyrics Mr. Gari seems capable of writing are ones that rhyme "last" with "past" and "dance" with "chance," "tights" with "nights," etc. You can see the rhyme coming a mile away.
To make matters worse, he assigns most of the 21 numbers to himself, singing in an anemic, nasal tenor usually reserved for whiners. Perhaps Robert LuPone (Patti's brother & "Zach" in the orginal production of A CHORUS LINE) made the songs sound better than they actually are. Perhaps not. When LATE NITE COMIC opened at the Ritz Theatre on October 15, 1987, it was roasted by the critics and closed after 4 performances. It's one of the few show recordings about which I kept thinking, "When will this ever end?"
Better to buy one of Julie Budd's solo albums instead.
Julie Budd is sensational........2001-12-28
As much as I have loved this album for its more than valid attempt to capture the trials and tribulations of an aspiring stand up comic who is totally into himself, the best and most collectible songs are the DUETS WITH JULIE BUDD, and the SOLOS BY JULIE BUDD. The quality and style of her singing is almost incongrous to the rest of it, she is brilliant in the duet Had To Happen Sometime.
