About the Artist
A native of Oakland, at a young age LZ Love saw gospel legend Mahalia Jackson perform, and decided to pursue a singing career. Her first gig as a professional was as a backup singer for San Francisco disco icon Sylvester from 1975 to 1976. "I learned so much from him about performing," LZ said. "How to put a show together, how to keep an audience with you by keeping them involved with everything you do and making them part of it — and being wild and theatrical on stage." Taking her career to the London, LZ recorded a single "See The Light," which received rave reviews and charted Number 6 in Echoes magazine in 1996. LZ has also worked with a long list of artists, including Mary Wells, Walter and Eddie Hawkins, Joan Armatrading and Gene Simmons.
Phoenix learned to play drums and guitar at age ten, and was performing for large crowds by the time he reached high school. He then toured the college circuit and clubs until he was hired to be the house drummer for the House of Blues in Cambridge, MA. Phoenix moved to San Francisco in 1994, and while being mentored by Bill Spooner of The Tubes, worked with Pattie Austin, Martine Fiero, Jules Broussard and Tommy Castro, among others.
