These 53 songs have been collected by Naxos from their extensive acquisitions from Collins Classics, and perhaps other British sources now out of business. There's a steady cottage industry, year after year, producing the typical English art song, which is usually based on folk songs, but even in more modern idioms is profuondly conservative and nostaligic. Half these songs, not to mention half the composers, are totally unknown to American audiences, but the familiar names of Vaughan Williams and Britten represent high quality, and the lesser lights, such as Warlock and Quilter, are mainstays in this repertoire.

I'd challenge all but the most addicted listener to make it through more than ten songs at a sitting, and many of these pieces are tepid, offering comfort rather than inspiration. The singers are among the best, but Graham Johnson and Steuart Beford, who do most of the accompaniments, are lackluster. I know that won't be a popular comment, yet if you compare any of these songs with rendiitons done by Janet Baker, John Shirley-quirk, and most recently Bryn Terfel and Ian Bostridge, you immediately notice how much more intensity and drama is pesent than htis colleciton reveals.

      I've read several reviews of the band and the reviewers draw comparisons to the Church and the Cure and even Radiohead but I think a more accurate comparison would be James. I immediately think of the James song "Out To Get You" every time I listen to Sea Ray -- not that that's a bad thing!

      An excellent album overall I look forward to hearing more from Sea Ray.

      Sea Ray is one of those rare opening bands you see and immediately have to get their album because their sound and performance is just so amazing.

      Stars at Noon, their debut album, is a great mix of indie rock, a little bit of electronica, classical and alternative rock, that combines to create that type of sound that you can rock to, chill to or just contemplate life. The cello adds a soothing, classical sound to Sea Ray's rock that punches their songs up to another level.

      "Revelry" is probably the highlight track that distinguishes this band as a rising star. The lyrics are poignant and their sound is soothing yet lively. The rest of the album follows this example and hits the mark on every one. Check out "Forge Utopia", "Quiver" and "Lalaland".

      Great alt-rock chill out music. Don't miss it.

      This band is great. I saw them perform live in Philadelphia opening for The Church and just had to buy their CD after the show. They had a great sound, and the cello really added a unique, passionate, and poignant element to their music. If you like brit rock/pop type music that evokes deep emotions, you will enjoy this group.

      I saw this band live, and had to buy the CD. I'm glad I did. Not only are they an impressive live act, their melodious music is brilliant to listen to. Look for these guys to make it into more mainstream indie in the not-too-distant future

      Sea Ray haven't yet come to the shores of the UK but i've no doubt they will very very soon. The tracks i've heard are melodic and make you wanna listen again and again. Ok, i'm slightly biased as i kinda know one of the band, but trust me, i wouldn't be bothered to write a review on here if i didn't think it was worth it - when you really like something (check out Revelry!) then it's natural to want to make people listen to this great band. If you like Coldplay, Keane and Snow Patrol then this is totally your bag.
