About the Artist
Nic's Story...kind of...

Back in NYC, Nicole honed her songwriting and live performance skills as a regular headliner at The Living Room, the legendary CBGB's and The Bitter End. Critics raved, calling her one of the city's "best kept secrets."

The secret is out. Nicole single handedly cultivated a flowering underground scene of her own. Through ingenious networking and word of mouth, Nicole's sexy, breathy vocal mystique and natural gift for melody got heads turning fast. In 2001, she released her debut eponymous CD, produced by Saul Zonana (Blue Oyster Cult, Luv Junkies, Ace Frehely). Performing Songwriter magazine chose Nicole's song "You Can't" as one of the top 12 independent releases to appear on their Editor's Choice Compilation CD, Volume 8 in 2001, alongside artists such as Alice Peacock (Aware/Columbia) and Will Hoge (Atlantic).

With her second album "Stay Awhile" (20/20 Music), Nicole's song craft has reached new levels of maturity -- a fresh, honest, diverse set of songs packed with emotional realism and an irrepressible optimism that shuns the dark and trendy cynicism found in many singer/songwriters of her generation. Produced by Saul Zonana and recorded at 20/20 Music and Acme Studios, "Stay Awhile" showcases Nicole's stunning voice in the context of finely-polished, compact guitar driven pop. Initial response to "Stay Awhile" has been fantastic, judging by the enthusiasm of those who packed the many NYC shows to hear Nicole debut the songs live. Pre-publicity ad-publicity advance online sales of "Stay Awhile" have been unusually brisk. Beyond the Big Apple, the accolades for Nicole's artistry continue to pile up. In October 2002 Nicole was selected to play the Nashville New Music Conference and in November 2002, she was selected to participate in the Independent Music World Series. Nicole was one of only 6 artists chosen from the thousands considered.

Product Description
Nicole says of creating the new album, "It was amazing to work with all of the people who became involved in this project. To have so much talent contributing to this record, they all brought the music somewhere I had never envisioned." Produced by Saul Zonana, "Stay Awhile" lives up to the incredible cast of industry players who played on the album. Saul Zonana - production, bass, keyboards, programming, Andrew Carillo-guitars (Joan Osborne), Jack Petruzzelli-guitars (Rufus Wainwright, Joan Osborne), Kevin Hupp - drums, percussion (Patty Griffin, Rufus Wainwright), Tom Hammer-piano, keyboards (Family Stand), Kevin Jenkins-bass (Cyndi Lauper), Julia Kent-cello (Sheryl Crow, Matthew Sweet), Barry Hartglass-upright bass, Doug Beck-programming. The CD was recorded at 20/20 Music in NY, and Acme Studios in Mamaroneck, NY and mixed at A-Pawling Studios in Pawling,NY.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10

Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.

The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).

This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.

I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.

5 out of 5 stars a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15

I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.

Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Jazz at its finest.......2005-07-28

I heard some of Steve Coles music one day while listening to a satellite radio station. The music I heard was unbelieveable. Smooth Jazz sax full of soul. I ordered the CD thru Amazon and have been playing it ever since. A great part of any smooth jazz collection.

5 out of 5 stars Mo' Smooth.......2004-04-18

This is one of the sweetest sounding CDs that I've ever owned...Steve Cole has soul...yummm

5 out of 5 stars Music which makes your sould dance.......2003-11-19

Steve Cole strikes a chord with people with passion for life. "When I Think Of You" moved me so much that I actually used it to propose to my wife (she said "YES") - what more do you need to hear? Listen to Steve's sax and feel the rhythm of life.

5 out of 5 stars stay awhile -- you'll love what you hear.......2003-04-26

If you've been listening to "smooth jazz" radio over the past half-decade or so, you've likely heard of the true saxophone talent that is Steve Cole. This Chicago native has been a staple on the airwaves since 1998, when his excellent debut CD "Stay Awhile" was released. Tracks like "Say it Again" and "Think About it" became instant listener favorites. Cole doesn't break any new stylistic ground on this album, but the supple surroundings and silky improvosations make up for him maintaining the status quo.

Produced by Brian Culbertson and co-written by Culbertson and Steve Cole, "Stay Awhile" is an excellent intrduction to Cole's soulful, if not fully-developed, style. The slower-paced tracks show off this talent the best, especially the title track, "Our Love" and the final track, "Devotion." While the mid-tempo tracks tend to blend together, the total experience is positive. This album has a few years behind it, but still sounds as fresh as his current work. If you're a fan of Cole's other albums, Boney James, or Nelson Rangell, you'll love this album.

5 out of 5 stars Wondeerful!!!.......2002-02-26

This is a wonderful mix of sensual, and laidbad tunes made in a long time. You will want to "STAY" and listen to it forever. My personal favorite is "Think About It" I can listen to it ten times over, the I like "Stay Awhile". This is some of the best smooth jazz to be dropped in years. Have a listen and see why you will want to "Stay Awhile".

An excellent sampler of Dowland's repertoire. The Rose Consort of Viols plays wonderfully and are well supported by a warm and immediate recording. I have spent many hours enjoying this album. Naxos strikes gold once again. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars A great introduction to Dowlandýs and renaissance music.......2000-09-18

If you are a classic or pop fan (or both), and you are not familiar with early music, buy this CD. After you will become addicted to it (as I had) you will rush to buy other CDs of this composer and period (as I did). It contains a balanced repertoire of galliards and other viols' music, songs and lute pieces, and all possible combinations of them. While not making any allowance for popularity, it does contain several timeless pieces that will nail you from first listening (try "lasso vita mia", for example), and the other pieces will get under your skin after several more. The sound of the Rose Consort of Viols is amazingly warm, makes you wonder why classical composers ever stopped writing for these instruments. Dowland's music is beautifully polyphonic, yet it never quits being melodious and lyrical. In fact, for pop fans it might be very enjoyable to discover Bach in a natural way by starting with Dowland, and not the other way around. This CD is not perfect: I would like my galliards with a bit more swing to them, and perhaps this is why this CD seems to over-emphasize the melancholic side of Dowland. Overall, however, this one is still closer to five stars than four, in the disc library of any music fan.

5 out of 5 stars Disregard the Bad Packaging . . ........2007-02-02

...because this is an incredible remastering job. I have a lot of Dusty Springfield sets, including the 1999 US CD releases and the original UK 1997 ones as well, and I can say without a doubt that this is the cleanest, most sonically-brilliant of them all. Granted, it's not for everyone, and mono purists might get bent out of shape at the idea. But the Taragon engineers went back and remixed real stereo versions (not those horrible fake stereo splits common on "oldies" sets) from the original Philips master tapes, and the results are nothing short of perfection. It's shame that it's marketed as a "budget" item because many will pass right over it, unless you're already familiar with the Taragon label's work (they did a great Peggy March disc as well in the same way). Grab this one however you can.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!!!! Dusty never sounded better.......2005-07-26

If you like Dusty (like I do) get a copy of this Taragon release. This is one of the best sounding remasters I've heard in a long time. Dusty's voice is so clear in the mix you will get chills. I had Polygram's version of the Dusty CD and it just doesn't compare. I don't know what the folks over at Taragon did, but it sounds like Dusty is right in the room with you!!! Search out a copy of this cd (on Taragon....not sure if this is still available) for the sound alone you will be glad you did! I don't even need to talk about the actual albums....its Dusty!

5 out of 5 stars DUSTY HITS THE CHARTS!.......2002-10-04

A 2 for 1 compilation of Dusty Springfield's first 2 albums ever released in the U.S. Together with The Beatles, Dusty Springfield helped usher in the British invasion of the mid-60s.

What is stunning to notice in these albums, is the first steps of what would become a brilliant solo career. Dusty may have started solo with Rock/Pop..but she quickly showed throughout the 60s and beyond, that she had a voice capable of singing anything in any style.

There isn't a bad track on this 2-for-1, but the careful listener would be wise to go beyond the big hits ("I Only Want To Be With You", "Stay Awhile", "Wishin' & Hopin'", "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself") and focus instead on some wonderful, yet often overlooked tracks like her glorious cover of the Velvelettes' "Needle In A Haystack", the maturity beyond her years of "I Wish I'd Never Loved You" and the jumpy/contagious teenage bop of "Everyday I Have To Cry".

Sometimes it's hard to believe the same person who sings with the naivete required for "Wishin' & Hopin'" can turn around and deliver something as steamingly adult as the bluesy "Don't You Know".

Only Dusty had that emotional range at such a young age. And she also had the pipes to back it up.

If you like your pop music with emotional variety, vocal prowess, and an astute sense of rhythm & blues, it doesn't get much better than Dusty Springfield.

5 out of 5 stars It Is REAL STEREO!.......2001-05-01

If You didn't know when these songs were recorded, You would swear that this new CD was the NEXT PHASE of music! What is astounding, is that this CD was recorded in the early 1960's, and wasn't available in REAL STEREO, as it is now on this CD!

The quality is SUPURB! The songs are GREAT! This is Dusty Springfield's answer to the new BEATLES 1 album, which is creating new fans too!

This album is VERY SEXY, VERY COOL! A MUST HAVE!

5 out of 5 stars You'll feel why the "British Invasion" rocked the world!.......1999-03-20

It's London, 1964, and a girl called Dusty has just debuted with these 24 roof-raising cuts. You are there with this deluxe, full-stereo, astoundingly remastered CD. A remarkable package documenting the explosive start of a remarkable career. Cheers!

5 out of 5 stars Echoed Gold.......2005-03-11

I'm a younger fan, but I love the Kingston Trio like I love my modern music. My father played their records often (not often enough) and took me to several of their concerts. I am proud to have attended the last concert in Denver with Nick, before he stepped down and the horrible Bobby Hayworth replaced him. No offense, but he's no Kingston. Even my parents hated the last concert (I didn't go).

This being a review of Stay Awhile, not the history of the Trio, I should add that Stay Awhile is the only album I own. The rest I purchase collectively with my father and leave with him, since he has the nicer stereo.

Of all the albums I decided to choose for myself, I chose Stay simply because Early Morning Rain was on it. When I heard this live, I was moved to tears, it was performed so beautifully. The album version is far different, of course, but still retains that hollow feeling of loneliness.

Naturally, as one grows older with an album, the rest of the songs become a part of him. So too did Hanna Lee, an amazing song to sing along with -- the transition into falsettos during the chorus puts shivers in my spine -- and Stay Awhile, an upbeat, fun drinking song. Three Song, Rusting in the Rain, Where I'm Bound, and They Are Gone are beautiful songs to listen to. But none are so moving as:

If I Had A Ship, a simple tale that ends in a massive build-up of guitars with the Trio singing at the top of their voices. I sang this to my girlfriend while driving down a lone winding road at night. It was wonderful!

Yes I Can Feel It...about love like the wind. The guitar here is touching and has inspired my own playing; and Last Thing On My Mind...are you goin' away with no word of farewell... somewhat a sequel (albeit a sad one) to Yes I Can Feel It, and one that evokes the emotions of past loves. The two songs are some of the Trio's best.

The whole album is submerged in a funky resonance, a sort of reverberation and echo throughout. This makes the album individually stand out from the rest of KT's entire collection. While it may not be their best or most personal album as a compilation of folk songs, it is truly one of their most reflective ones.

5 out of 5 stars The Kingston Trio sing songs by Paxton, McKuen, et al........2003-02-23

"Stay Awhile" was the second Kingston Trio album released under the Folk Era lable in 1965. While not quite as good as the "Nick-Bob-John" release this is still a solid offering with songs written by Tom Paxton ("Where I'm Bound" and "Bottle of Wine") and Rod McKuen ("Rusting in the Rain"), as well as one of the group's better original compositions with the title track. There are also some songs that move in the direction of country music and bluegrass which are interesting but lesser efforts. However, you have to add another star to the rating for the four bonus tracks, all of which are taken from the Kingston Trio's "Something Else" album. Included are "Dancing Distance" written by the under appreciated Mason Williams along with Paxton's "Last Thing on My Mind" and Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Morning Rain." This reissue also replaces the original album cut of "Yes I Can Feel It" with the single version. "Stay Awhile" was released after the glory days during which the Kingston Trio were the most popular folk ensemble on the planet, but this album compares well with their best earlier work, especially with these bonus tracks.

5 out of 5 stars The best Kingston Trio LP of the Decca Years.......2003-02-11

Recorded in 1965 in the same studio that produced the We Five, this LP comes closest to the old Capitol-Voyle Gilmore sound. It is also some of the kickingest folk recorded after the Beatles Invasion. Some of my all-time favorite trio songs are here, with very little filler. The trio is at the top of their craft with "Gonna Go Down the River" and "Hanna Lee" on the loud side and "Yes I can Feel it" and "Rusting in the Rain" on the soft side. "Dooley" is a Dillards cover that foreshadows their foray into electrified folk. Four of the best cuts from the folk-rock "Something Else" LP round out this essential CD.

3 out of 5 stars Stay Awhile.......2000-03-03

I have been a trio fan for over 35 years, collected all their Lp's, including all the Decca issues. I always enjoyed Stay Awhile because of the song selection. My favorites are Rusting In The Rain, Three Song and Stories Of Old. Here you have a few songs written by Rod McKuen and Mason Williams, where the vocals and guitar work are excellent. I will agree that Decca's recording quality doesn't come close to Voyle Gilmore's well produced sessions at Capitol, but they're still a pleasure to listen to. I say to all Kingston Trio fans new and old, do not nix or reject the Decca years of the Trio, as there are some recordings that should be reviewed and appreciated.

3 out of 5 stars Patchy, with some fine moments.......2003-06-14

The lively tracks fare best here. There is a lot to like about those particular tracks and the period tongue (loov instead of love, coom instead of come, etc) is not nearly as cumbersome as it might have been, due to the convincing performances of the singers.
However, the slower numbers are often, in my opinion, rather sour.
Having heard this disc several times, it strikes me that it becomes less attractive over time, with the novelty of the approach soon wearing thin.
Still, some tracks are very lively and the artists are obviously having fun bringing a rather unique angle to these pieces, so it might well appeal to those who like something unusual.
Recording quality is fine, though the final fade-out is clumsily managed.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant and alive!.......2002-10-07

This is a fresh, vibrant recording of a cross-section of Dowland's music, and will quickly dispel any myth of Dowland always being a composer of melancholy!
The singers use Elizabethan pronunciation, which can be quite revelatory.

This 1964 set, Dusty Springfield's first U.S. album after her split from the folk-lite Springfields, found her moving adeptly into the pop and soul that she came to fully inhabit in the subsequent decades. The best was yet to come, though, as much of the disc is good, not great, readings of recent hits. Aside from three hit singles--in addition to the title songs, there's "Wishin' and Hopin'"--a highlight is a cute Dusty original, "Something Special." --Rickey Wright

4 out of 5 stars A girl called Dusty creates a fine debut even in the context of the times.......2006-02-22

When one looks back on Dusty Springfield's momentous career, it still remains odd that she originally started out as simply Mary O'Brien in a group called the Springfields singing wholesome folk music. Indeed, their version of "Silver Threads & Golden Needles" was a huge hit, and certainly enough to build a career on. But supposedly when the group toured America, Mary was fascinated by the sounds of Motown & soul music, so much that she decided to change her singing style & go solo, keeping her Springfields stage name for the ride.

Of course, even in the middle of a very liberal decade like the 1960s, the idea of a White singer singing soul music was an oddity & likely not very commercial. So instead Dusty simply decided to use her new style on the latest pop music of the time, giving them a lot more life & spice than they otherwise would have had from other singers. The 1960s was also the decade in which the album went from expensive novelty to the primary form of creative expression for artists, but in 1964, that transition was still in its early stages. Most often, albums were showcases for singles & some similarly-recorded filler. Dusty's early albums followed this format, and just from its title STAY AWHILE/I ONLY WANT TO BE WITH YOU, it was clear which songs were intended to push the album's sales. However, even with the latest pop material being given the Dusty treatment, it is nevertheless interesting to see just how well she succeeds at inhabiting songs made famous by others while at the same time turning two originals into her own.

Yes, "I Only Want To Be With You" was the song that shot Dusty into the world pop stratosphere (reaching #4 in England, #12 in America), and it had all the hallmarks of a surefire hit, circa 1964: a good danceable beat, an enthusiastic vocal delivery & a chorus that would not leave your head even if you tried. However, while the song could have been recorded by any female singer & turned into just another run-of-the-mill girl-group hit, Dusty's fuller-bodied vocal leant it the right amount of soul one can expect from a White female. It has been covered countless times in the decades since, but it is safe to say the song remains Dusty's to the end.

If you thought "I Only Want To Be With You" was a perfect pop song, "Stay Awhile" at least showed how to continue the formula successfully. Coming from the same writers of the former, "Stay Awhile" leans a little more towards the Wall Of Sound side of things with enough of a pounding backbeat & sweeping orchestra to make Phil Spector wonder if he had not recorded this song himself with the Ronettes or the Crystals. While not quite the opening salvo that was its predecessor (#13 U.K., #38 U.S.), it still packs quite a punch for a song just under 2 minutes.

Naturally, those were the two songs the album set out to promote first & foremost (at least in America, while the British had an album called A GIRL CALLED DUSTY with which to first acquaint themselves with Dusty), but that did not mean the contemporary pop standards was one throwaway after another, since an artist like Dusty, who relied on material to be written for her, naturally had to turn to what was on the radio for songs to record. I am not sure if Dusty found Burt Bacharach, or vice versa, but just as he & Hal David were making Dionne Warwick into the living embodiment of their musical vision in America, Dusty began doing the same for her British audiences. "Wishin' & Hopin'" showed that Dusty could do more than just uptempo pop confections by slowing the beat down without sacrificing it altogether. Even with women's lib on the rise in the mid-1960s, such musical advice to women on how to snare a man was still commonplace, but where time has rendered most of these songs utterly sexist, Dusty's in-control delivery on this song hints at a more female-empowerment message. In other words, use your intuition to get your man, do not play hard to get. Only released as a single in America, it became Dusty's first top 10 hit (#6), and indicated just how far her creative range could extend.

Dusty takes on two other Bacharach songs with "Anyone Who Had A Heart" (a not half-bad try at a Dionne impression) & "24 Hours From Tulsa" (which lends a unique female perspective on a song that Gene Pitney had made a hit). From there, the pop covers are just a matter of which one you listen to. The Shirelles' "Mama Said" is a good example of keeping the original beat & rhythm of a proven song, but just falling short of outright plagiarism. All there is to distinguish it is the fact that Dusty is the one singing. Charlie & Inez Foxx's "Mockingbird" may have sounded like a cute idea at the time, but it shows that even Dusty is not immune to artistic stumbling with a song that sounds good while playing, but leaves little impression after it is over.

"When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes" is primarily known as The Supremes' first top 40 hit in America, but Dusty manages to create a winner for herself even while maintaining the note-for-note reproduction of most of the album's covers. It is Dusty's soulfulness & enthusiasm that wins the day. The same works for "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" (a better attempt at a Shirelles cover), Arthur Alexander's "Every Day I Have To Cry" & most especially Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me" (finally a White woman who can give this proto-feminist standard the kind of fire & brimstone it needed).

For someone who had to keep her ear to the ground for the hottest pop songs on the scene, Dusty still proved she was game at trying to write herself. "Something Special" is actually surprisingly well done for a first original song, and it makes one wonder why Dusty did not explore songwriting that much afterwards. But I suppose that can be chalked up to the interview in the liner notes where Dusty said she can "only write occasionally & very slowly."

The CD version of STAY AWHILE comes with three bonus tracks that did not make it onto the album for whatever reason. "Baby Don't You Know" & "If It Hadn't Been For You" are rather similar in sound & content, but they again show that Dusty was about more than uptempo dance-pop. Give her a chance, and she can make you feel loved. The former was released as a B-side, while the latter was canned until decades later. "Standing In The Need Of Love" is a traditional number that continues the "I Only Want To Be With You" formula, and maybe the reason it did not see the light of day at the time was because of that similarity. After two uptempo hits in a row, Dusty may have felt it was time to move on; hence, the slower, more romantic "Wishin' & Hopin'."

While singles still had plenty of clout in the pop music of the mid-1960s, the commercial viability of albums was also being discovered, even if the idea of a fully-cohesive work was still in its infancy (we were still a year or two from RUBBER SOUL, REVOLVER & PET SOUNDS, and 5 from Dusty's first truly-cohesive album DUSTY IN MEMPHIS). Even after that, the old singles-and-filler format never really went away, and would be a Dusty album staple well into later part of the decade. But while finding what contemporary pop song suited her best would be a target-shooting proposition for her for the first few years of her career, STAY AWHILE even at its bum moments proves that Dusty can be more than just as good as her last single.

5 out of 5 stars One For The Time Capsule.......2005-10-27

You will hear something on this album that you will never, ever hear on any other Dusty Springfield solo album. Dusty goes off-key at about 1:15 into "Anyone Who Had A Heart". It's amazing that this was released with that flaw considering Dust was an obsessive perfectionist when it came to her music. Albeit, she was very young and this was her first U.S. album, Dusty always had a gift for singing the nearly-impossible to sing Burt Bacharach song. In fact, from this writer's point of view, only Dusty & Dionne could do justice to those musically complex songs .

The other songs on the album are Dusty's Top 40 hits from the mid-60's when she reigned as the one and only true Queen Of Pop! While her voice matured with her later, more sophisticated musical endeavors such as "Dusty In Memphis"(the Masterpiece) and "Brand New Me", the raw innocence and notable promise of the great things that were to come a little later make this album a "must have" for any Dusty Springfield fan of any age. She was simply the best pop singer of that era when pop singers were coming out of the woodwork.

We lost Dusty way too soon. Thankfully, she left us with her gift of music.

5 out of 5 stars Dusty sings classic hits you will never tire of........1999-11-01

After hearing Dusty sing "Every Day I Have To Cry" on England's TV show "Ready, Steady,Go" I knew I had to have this on CD. Steve Alaimo's original sounds so much better when Dusty sings it. The track is full stereo and wonderful. Most CD's have cuts that you file under delete but not this one. There are no clunkers on this CD. Let's face it. No one can do "Mama Said" like the Shirelles" but Dusty did a credible job. Her performance of "Anyone Who Had A Heart" was excellent. If you like Dusty Springfield you will treasure this CD.

4 out of 5 stars What a great 60's pop star Dusty proved to be........1999-05-03

Dusty Springfield is often thought of at her best in the soulful ballad genre and whilst I do not disagree with that point it is often forgotten what a great sixties pop star she was in the fast beat style. This album is a great reminder of her early days. As well as her famous early hits there is the classic recording of 24 Hours from Tulsa where she really sings not just the words but the emotion as well and is a real treasure. The other great track is Anyone Who Had a Heart where this song really comes to life compared to the version by Cilla Black which made number 1 in the UK. For anyone who wants to understand why Dusty was such a great star should listen to these tracks. Even the most banal numbers are sung with conviction and the unique Dusty sound is ever present.

    5 out of 5 stars Dusty Springfield's first U.S. album is fab!.......1999-03-26

This is a reissue of Dusty's fab first U.S. album from 1964. This album has her hits "I Only Want to Be with You", "Stay Awhile" and "Wishin' and Hopin", but also has two more classics: Dusty's versions of "24 Hours from Tulsa" and "Anyone Who Had a Heart"-this last song here is as powerful as any she sang. Listen and see why.Dusty rules! A great voice and a great album!
