not going to give you a bunch of fluff....if you like rocking blues w/ good vocal, buy it....I look forward to purchasing his next CD
good, raw blues.......2007-01-07
This is a fun, raunchy, highly charged blues/rock cd. While there are a variety of sounds and textures, this is in a "Hound Dog Taylor"/Stevie Ray Vaughn vein.
What distinguishes Castiglia from other guitar slingers is that his singing is equal to his fret work. High energy guitar playing coupled with high energy vocals.
There is a lot of tasty accoustic/resonator playing on this but my favorite is the roaring, boogie-style, electric works. "Hurricane Blues" is a highlight.
This band is a staple on the South Florida music scene. He is a fine live act. Besides the guitar playing, the drum playing is quite tasty also. Go see him for free before he hits the big time.
Lastly, this is not a pure blues cd, it overflows into rock territory. That is a good thing!
Guitar Star Plays Great Blues.......2006-11-30
I can't quite decide if Albert Castiglia is your basic guitar hero or an outright guitar wizard. I do know he's something special. I've seen him play live in Miami, and it's a true musical experience. The man's hands fly over the instrument, blurring out -- but the music comes out clean and pure.
He plays a great slide, can get breathtaking sound in an acoustic set and can play rockin' electric blues too. He and collaborator Graham Wood Drout write some powerful songs. Drout's "Ghosts of Mississippi" is pretty close to awesome and Albert delivers this eerie song beautifully with his strong, bluesy voice).
This guy's the real deal. And this disc is terrific. It's a big-league effort. What I want to know is this: Why doesn't Amazon also sell his first album, "Burn"? That's a phenomenal debut album in its own right.
Listen to Albert and decide for yourself if he's really a guitar wizard. It sounds and feels like magic to me.
What a great discovery!.......2006-11-06
I recently stumbled across this recording and decided to take a chance on it based on the positive reviews. What a great discovery! Albert Castiglia not only plays great blues guitar, but also has a terrific blues voice.
For me, the highlights of this disc include a nice, hard-driving version of the Robert Johnson tune "Walking Blues" as well as an equally hard-rocking original tune called "Hurricane Blues." There are no weak cuts on this disc and fans of electric blues will not regret adding this CD to their collection.
I look forward to hearing more from Mr. Castiglia in the near future.
Make you wanna move.......2006-09-19
HIs guitar playing is incrediable, his other band memeber can carry their own!!! You don't know if you want to dance or sit and listen as not to misss a single note

Rolling Stones Virtuoso Shines on this Solo Disc.......2007-03-10
Mick Taylor gave so much to the Rolling Stones when he was with them. Some of their most beautiful, layered music happened when he was in the band, including perhaps their greatest guitar solo track, "Time Waits for No One" on 'It's Only Rock and Roll'. Though I love all the Stones' stuff, there is something extra in the Mick Taylor years. Whereas after he left, the Stones developed a lean sound, with Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood practicing the ancient art of weaving, Mick Taylor did his own bluesy riffs on top of Richards. At times, it borders on symphonic.
On this solo album, Taylor has put together a solid cadre of rock and blues musicians and produced a beautiful work that can be listened to over and over. I have only had it a few days and have already listened to it three times. There really is not a weak track on the album, which leans towards a rock/blues sound that highlights Mick's blues guitar skills. It proves to anyone who has listend to the Stones from the Taylor years that Taylor wrote a few songs that ended up being credited to the Glimmer Twins instead. Eight of the ten songs are written by Taylor himself, demonstrating his wide-ranging abilities in the songwriter department. Too bad he never got the credit (or royalties) he deserved from his contributions in the Stones.
It's the kind of album you can listen to any time. And I disagree with some reviewers about Taylor's voice. It's not great, but it's got that smoky, rough sound that works with the blues, comparable to Clapton's. It works with the material.
Recommended very highly. Kind of hard to find, but worth the search.
Five Stars.
Great guitarist.......2006-10-20
I love listening to Mick Taylor. I only wish he was more prolific. To hear how great he really is, listen to Blind Willie McTell. It may never leave your player.
a littlegem .......2005-08-04
this low key, relaxed album is a pleasant journey through a variety of guitar styles: from slide guitar to wah-wah to overdriven power blues. the songs are well crafted and noticeably different from each other. 8 of the 10 songs were written or co-written by Taylor, and I recommend the first 2 cuts, " Secret Affair" and "Twisted Sister" as well as the quirky "Lost in the Desert". his singing style is adequate, and reminded me of Clapton . but the guitar work is extraordinary. the net result is a little gem of a album that will please any blues fan
interesting problem:.......2004-10-19
When the singing and lead guitar are by two different people, sometime the guitar fills start to soon and end too late, interfering with the vocals. This never happens when the same guy is doing both; BB King, Albert King, and so on, never step on their own toes. With the advantage of being able to read their own minds, such bluesmen are always in perfect sync. Why then, does Taylor seem to be getting in his own way?
Mick's Best Years Ended in 1974...........2002-03-19
Musically, and inspirationally, this album is very, very weak. It has no drive or ambition at all. Even the guitar playing is marginal. And I like Mick Taylor. At least pre-1975 Mick. I had a lot of hope for this CD, but was very dissappointed upon first hearing it (and with subsequent listenings). The worst part are the vocals. Horrible. Why Mick insists on doing the vocals is beyond me. Friends should give him some honest feedback on that. On the larger side, maybe Mick really does need some help with production or some good old Keithian riffological guidance to bring out his best? Sorry Mick....

Product Description
Gripping vocals, pure poetic lyrics and hard hitting melody is the explosive core of Mike Youngers sophomore effort, Every Stone You Throw Every Stone You Throw is a Rock & Roll record that draws heavily from the Blues, Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Gospel and Country, but through arrangement and production is rendered undeniably contemporary. The songs speak to the issues of the day, ranging from the topical to the personal, taking the listener on a vivid journey through the writers struggle to remain steadfast in his devotion to his art despite the obstacles thrown in his path by life, the business and the social upheavals of the times. With rich instrumentation by an amazing band of seasoned players, this record combines the approach of the classic 60s folk singers with the punch of contemporary rockers like Springsteen and Mellencamp, crafting a tightly produced, hook-laden rock album appealing to indie, folk, rock and pop fans alike. The players that make up The Mike Younger Group are Louie Appel on drums (John Eddie, Debbie Gibson, Southside Johnny), Skip Ward on bass (Angela McCluskey, The Wild Colonials) and Bob Packwood on piano and keys (Oh Susanna, Tandy, The Yayhoos, Eric "Roscoe" Amble, Liz Tormes, The Damnwells, Rebecca Hall, The Dark Horses & Mary Lee Kortes.).

What Can I Say??.......2006-05-26
This is, without exception, the best record you can buy right now. Every track speaks to you, every track embodies your mind and soul. I love the delta blues-like rendition of "Devil's On The Rise" to the insightful inspirational "Together". This is songwriting at it's very best, with a great backing band. Mike Younger's vocals and songwriting, to me, are very reminiscent of John Mellencamp. How could you go wrong buying this record?
YOU MUST BUY THIS RECORD .......2006-02-18
I heard a song from Mike Younger on Napster.com and fell in love with the music. There is something about the voice, the lyrics, the passion that comes through in his songs that I have not heard in a long time. I have never bought an entire CD from an artist that I heard on iTunes or Napster but my friends, I bought this one. This artists is a sleeper, let's get him in the limelight and show the music industry what they are missing. Mike Younger is what we want to hear...honest, raw, sexy! Spinning our thoughts into his stories...I wonder if he is married or if he wants to get married :-)
Absolutely Brilliant.......2006-02-18
Run, don't walk, to get this one boys and girls. One of the most stunning and amazing albums i have ever heard......ever.... Every single track is worthy of a grammy nomination. It's just that good. In fact the only thing i can think of that might deter any one from absolutely loving this cd, is that the rest of your music collection just may not get listened to again. It's just that good. There are not enough superlatives to adequately do Mike Younger and his band justice, so get your hands on a copy and be prepared to get blown away. It's just that good.

Customer Reviews:
OK, but better was to come.......2007-03-16
It's a tough world for female vocalists in the rock/pop business, but Valerie Carter had the best possible start here. In addition to her superb vocals, she had the backing of a stellar line-up of backing vocalists and musicians who included, to name just some, Linda Ronstadt, Lowell George, Fred Tackett and Jackson Browne.
This 1977 album doesn't (quite) live up to these credentials, but Valerie Carter was to produce a far, far better album, 'Wild Child' (1978), in the following year. Her excellent 1996 CD, 'The Way It Is', is well worth buying, too.
little gem.......2006-07-16
The stark, fragile beauty of Carter's performance of the late Lowell George's little known song, "Heartache" (see album: "Thanks, I'll Eat it Here"; his band, Little Feat), alone, makes this album worth having. One has to have lived hard and lost sufficiently in order to interpret another's despair so well... Backing vocals are simply stunning on this cut, as well. Transcendent.
A Lost Treasure.......2006-01-30
I first heard of Valerie Cater with her version of Ooh Child. It was featured during the end credits of the 1979 film Over The Edge. I fell in love with it and for years wanted to find a recording of it. Having purchased the film on DVD and listening to the song again, on a whim I did the search here for Valerie's work.
To my delight, I found this CD. Upon purchasing and listening to it, I found out just how talented this lady is. Along with Ooh Child: Ringing Doorbells in the Rain and Face of Appalachia are my favorite tracks. Somehow, City Lights is sort of an odd song, not really fitting in with the feel of the rest of the tracks on the CD. But nevertheless an exceptional album.
I hope everyone will find that Lost Treasure CD they so want. With this, I know I have!
An old friend.......2006-01-29
This album was my favorite at least 30 years ago. I remember discovering Valerie Carter back then and feeling like she sang my life. Over the years I sold my turn table and lost touch with my albums. What a treasure to find this cd and relive the connection that rocked my soul so many years before. She sings with such power and grace that you don't just listen to this album you can live it. I constantly have Ooh Child running through my brain as I watch my daughter sleep. I run to So,so Happy and Ringing Doorbells in the Rain on my ipod. I even cry to Cowboy Angel occasionlly and this isn't the forum to even discuss why that is!
All in all, this album is as contemporary today as it was inovative then. She is a pure talent, and this is a timeless cd. If they would only release the Buckingham Nicks album on CD...my life would be complete. I don't want much!
Mediocre talent.......2005-07-31
Despite support from big-name cameos such as Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt, this falls flat. Clearly well-trained voice is better as back-up vocals than a soloist: nice enough voice (occasionally piercing) but lacks the oomph of a star.

THE FINAL DESTINATION FOR MIKE YOUNGERS JOURNEY IS JUST A STONES THROW AWAY
Mike Younger has lived his art, following the path it has forged for him his entire life. Upon leaving home at 17, he hitchhiked over 3,000 miles across Canada, taking with him little more than his guitar and harmonica. From his native Halifax to Vancouver, New York to New Orleans, Mike has steadfastly followed his intense drive to create music, navigating arduous pitfalls that would have dissuaded most others. Presently based in New York City, Mikes entire journey has been determined by inspiration, having surrendering his life to the calling of his music. He is now preparing to release his new album, Every Stone You Throw, arriving from Bare Bone Productions on March 7, 2006. A seamless combination of alt-country, singer-songwriter and pop-rock stylings, Every Stone You Throw is the result of a tightly-honed group of skilled musicians bringing a talented songwriters compositions colorfully to life. The album, paced by blues-tinted rootsy melodies and sparked by Mike's resonant vocals and incisive lyrics, guides the listener on a tour through the thoughts and experiences of a weathered soul. Steeped as much in the gritty textures of the Southern Delta as it is in the countrified folk-rock that proliferates car radios on darkened Canadian highways, Every Stone You Throw bears witness, through its musical influences, to Mike's nomadic journey. From the politically-savvy Everyday War a scathing indictment Mike hopes people all over the world will hear through the electrifying Soulsearchin an impassioned song about finding your way back into a loved ones heart, punctuated with hints of Southern gospel to the tenderly nostalgic acoustic closer, Something to Believe a very cathartic finale, saying goodbye to a major part of my life Every Stone You Throw is a ruggedly graceful memoir, deeply rooted in its creators experiences. With the help of old friends and collaborators Bob Packwood on piano, organ and Wurlitzer, Skip Ward on bass and Louis Appel on drums, Mike and esteemed producer/engineer Rob Clark (Neil Young, Emmylou Harris) laid down the basic tracks for Every Stone You Throw in just three days. Every Stone You Throw is, at its heart, the sound of a determined drifter integrating his diverse influences under one roof and finally finding a place to call home.
