While never quite as popular as their contemporaries, Expose, Sweet Sensation did have a minor string of hits with their freestyle dance songs back in the late 80's. "Never Let You Go", "Hooked On You" and "Sincerely Yours" were their biggest dance floor hits. For me, Sweet Sensation falls into that category of interchangeable freestyle girl groups - Cover Girls, Pajama Party, Giggles, etc. Nothing very special to differentiate them from the pack of other freestyle girl groups, but they did have some catchy songs and were fun to dance to.

While this CD brings most of their strongest songs together in one disc (although their cover of "Love Child" from 1990 is blatently missing) "Never Let You Go" is the only cut that could be considered an extended dance mix. The other tracks seem to be album or single versions. The CD is amazingly short, only running about 40 minutes so there was more than enough space to feature some of the longer versions or some of the nice accapellas normally featured on their 12" vinyl singles.

My peeve: if you're going to basically release a dance CD, why not feature the full length remixes - how most people remember them?

5 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL 80'S MUST HAVE MUSIC.......2005-08-17

This album is a must have for the 80's child. Every song on this album is pure magic. Granted there are only 8 tracks on this album, the quality makes up for it.

Listening to this album brings me back to my early years. It's still relevant with todays dance music.

I'd have to say my favorite song is Hooked On You. I just loved the synthasized beat to it. When I listen to this album, I can not sit still!

It may be from the 80's, but it's deffinately worth having it in your music collection.

I was hooked the first time i saw the video to 'Hooked on you' and then i got this cd and it just takes me back when good dance music ruled!! I miss good fun dance music like this, Sweet Sansation had good voices and they were given good dance material.

Sweet Sensation was clearly an attempt to make a teen, second-rate Expose down to the keyboard synthesizers, backbeat, and even the lead vocals in "Never Let You Go" mimic those heard in "Point Of No Return" or "Come Go With Me." Oh yes, and there is even a song here called "Let Me Be The One," which was a song on Expose's debut album. Then there's the cover, which clearly shows two whites and a Latina, close to the ethnic lineup of Expose.

"Never Let You Go", clocking in at a little over six minutes, is two minutes overlong, using that excess time for filler noises.

In contrast, "Sincerely Yours" which was the single from the album to make the Billboard charts and it isn't that bad, as it starts with a Spanish guitar before yielding to the Expose-type keyboards. Upon hearing the melody of the opening line, "Dear I write you this letter. to show you how our love means to me," I instantly thought, "AHA! The Supreme's 'You Keep Me Hangin' On." They crib that melody all right. Still, there's a slight Latin flavour in the song that pardons its obvious derivative roots.

"Love Games" incorporates a few video game sounds, a few old school rap scratches, and is about a louse who plays around. The snide spoken line "If you wanna go play games. Why don't you go and ask your daddy for a quarter" seems well deserved. Game over, bucko!

"Let Me Be The One" is a filler ballad that mimics the Expose song plus tries to mirror another one--"Seasons Change". "Heartbreak" contains the usual flurry of synth effects, like glass smashing and staccato vocal dubbing.

The title track begins with "It's time to jam." followed by shrill tinny horns. This is kind of an upbeat mimic of Expose's mid-paced "Let Me Be The One" and has echoes of Miami Sound Machine's early material. This song actually isn't that bad. However, I also detect them cribbing some of the Jets' sound as well.

"Victim Of Love" boasts a squishy rhythm synthesizer that sounds like a rubber ball bouncing, and does have some catchy hooks.

"Hooked On Love" is the third single-worthy song here. Another song that could've been done by either the Jets or Expose, this features gaggle of random noise. I see here the kind of new breed R&B-pop that would explode in 1990 and 1991. The girls' singing in unison isn't bad here.

This was a Platinum Vibe Production, and I don't know about yielding platinum. Copper maybe, and my rating is generous a a result. Well, the hot-looking cover also swayed me, I'll be honest. Although derivative, somewhat of a guilty pleasure, considering that the girls here were in their mid-teens. Sure, they did better in covering "Love Child" in their subsequent album, but that was a lineup change. But after that...

Another fine compilation from Trojan Records.This disc is a companion to the cd entitled "Rivers of Babylon",the name of their most popular song.Anyone who loves vocal group Reggae will love this disc and it's companion.Both discs are chock full of fine songs sung in the reggae style popularized in the late 60's and early 70's.That means they are great,in my opinion.Anyone familiar with the soundtrack to the movie "The Harder They Come" knows what I mean("Rivers Of Babylon" also appears on that disc).The sound of this disc is fine,considering the age of the songs.The liner notes are also decent.In my view,Trojan Records has been doing a great job with it's compilations in recent years and I hope they keep up the good work.I would recommend this disc and it's companion to anyone interested in Reggae from this period.Enjoy this disc.I did.

This is one of my favourite 90's cds if not a favourite out of all my cds in general. Sure, if you rate them now based on the music that's out there today, then you're gonna find fault. This music does have that 90's feel. But that's the best era in music (late late 80's - early 90's).
These guys were so cool back then. I remember them in Teen Beat and Bop etc, and their music was/is fantastic. If Wishes Came True, Love Child and He'll Never Know are the best known songs and are great, but Destiny and I Surrender are also hit worthy. Take a listen to this fantastic girl group. I sure wish they'd reform and make music and see what they can do in todays style.

l hope this is the right song but ever since my friend and l heard 'if wishes came true' one day on the radio we thought it was fabulous. We never ever heard it again and when we met we have always chat about ' that great song ' and wondered how we would ever find out the artist's name and the album title. Today l went on to google and spent a bit of time and have now placed an order for the album. l can't wait until it arrives so we can hear that song once again. Thank you amazon

On this album, the trio opted for a more sophisticated type of sound. Gone are the sythazied dance sounds, and a more softer sound emmerged.

This album is still great to listen to, and still fits in with todays music. That is hard to find in older music, but this album does just that.

You can hear their sound evolve on this album with many different flavors and sounds to feed your ears

If you have their first album, this is deffinately another album you need add to your collection!

For the NY dance craze of the late 80's this trio was par excellente! The first album, "Take It While Its Hot" spawned two hot tracks, 'Sincerely Yours' and 'Hooked On You' but had a raw edge throughout that was ill fitting for the techno perfect beats of dance music. Was a fab album but it is on 'Love child" that the edge is gone and the beats are bumpin' fo ra much better showing all around.

The fiery "One Good Man" and "Destiny" lay down a beat that Betty and the girls bring home with there fittingly, Boopesque coos. Not to be missed, 'Love Child' the title track does the Supremes one better and funks up their biggest classic.

Don't worry though, the biggest hit of their career, "If Wishes Came" true proves the girls emotional vocalist as does the syrupy-sweet "He'll Never Know"...

This album unfortuantely was the swan song to a fabulous trio, (cancer hit Betty) and forced the group to retire...but it is a wonderful pop confection...bumpin' in the car or in the gym..this set is worth the purchase.

I'm normally not into a lot of remixes on one CD, but this is quite the exception! I stumbled upon this CD by sheer accident and haven't been able to put it down. These talented young ladies were the wave of the 80's and then...zap! As with many artists, you have to ask yourself, what happened? Take a test drive above and then go ahead and treat yourself; filled to the brim with infectious Latin~N~R&B-influenced dance music (but not over the top), you can't go wrong!

Remixes are a must for any fan of a dance act, and this album gives a satisfying dose of Late 80's club attitude. The remixes, for the most part, are nice progressions of the originals. However, "Each and Every Time" gets butchered and looses its fresh sound. Thumbs down to the CD's art director...put a 4-color photo of the girls on the cover for crying out loud!

If you like olds school dance beats, This girl group had the right stuff. This remix album of greatest hits showcases all good club mixes and extended versions without over doing it. The hits "Take it while it's hot" and The Supremes remake of "Love child" make it a must have for any club kid's collection.

Little more than a week ago, there was nothing on digital cable, so I turned it on one of the music stations to relax and write a review. I heard a song that used to be my favorite that I hadn't heard in so many years that I had all but forgotten it. It was Lou Gramm's "Just Between You and Me". Almost instantaneously, I ventured to Amazon.com to look up all the albums that had that song.

I wanted to find one that had that song along with at least one or two other songs that I liked a lot. The search showed me many decent ones, but one in particular stood out: Pop in the 90's Vol. 3. It has "Just Between You and Me" along with another great hard to find song that I've been wanting: Fleetwood Mac's "Save Me". I also saw that it had some other good hits, such as "Roam" and INXS's "Disappear".

Upon receiving the CD in the mail and listening to it from start to finish, there were a few other great surprises. I had forgotten how much I used to like Atlantic Starr's "Masterpiece", and I recognized most of the others, which I also hadn't heard in several years, such as "I'll Be There" and "Hold You Tight". I also like how the back cover of the CD tells the chart positions of each song and what year they came out. Each song was a top ten hit except three of them ("Save Me" is the best #33 song I've ever heard).

I really do believe that Pop in the 90's Vol. 3 is up there with the most underrated albums of all time. It should be a CD that has sold so well that it'll never go out of print. I have a feeling that it won't be up for sale much longer. I found the masterpiece in Pop in the 90's Vol. 3. I hope you do the same before it's too late.

This is the CD single of Sweet Sensation's cover version of the old Supremes hit. It is a very good version of the song, with two mixes of it here. The "b-side" is "Child of Love", a somewhat odd dance track that incorporates some of the lyrics of "Love Child". Here is the track listing:

I've been a fan of Betty Dee & Sweet Sensation since their debut with Hooked On You. This new single "My Body Tu Cuerpo" shows that this diva is far from gone. You can still hear the magic in her voice. And the mixes... WOAH! They are hot. Ready for the dance floor? I am, so, gots to go. get this CD. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!

The pictured disc is not the same as the one I have, which features the gorgeous torso of a barely dressed man, but the mixes are the same.

Naturally, the Dynamix NYC club mix is major peak hour diva anthem, and the "your body, my body" melody borrowed from the classics disco track "Let's All Chant" takes on a whole new feel.

Johan Brunkvist's freestyle house vocal mix is a happy upbeat house mix with a freestyle flair, including some Spanish sounding guitars.

Nocturnal Agent Dub is hard and has a good number of build ups, with a fair amount of vocal, but there really isn't any hook to keep it interesting or moving forward, so it gets old fast.

Giofriddo Brothers dark dub is perfect and nasty for a more seedy club feel, with a dark vibe and more of a moan and groan vocal feel.

The Underground Dub is a whole lot of pulsing bassline-and not much else.

Gionfriddo Brothers light dub mix is opposite of their dark mix-it's still hard, but has more of a big club feel, with stinging female vocal hits, and a driving rhythm track, but once again, it's very repetitive.

The Under Dog Break Beat mix is just what it says, a freestyle break beat mix with a funk groove.

Along with that, you get a handful of instrumental companions to the vocal mixes. Personally, I would stick with the Dynamix peak hour mix, but there's something here to please everyone.

This is a beautiful collection of tunes where the emphasis is on vocal harmonies that grace the mellow beat. Smooth and soulful, the music has a definite gospel feel on songs like Sweet Sensation and Let's Give Praise and Thanks, as well as on their deeply spiritual and moving version of Rivers of Babylon. This is an enjoyable and uplifting listening experience and reveals another, less familiar side of reggae, confirming the rich variety of Jamaican music.
