4 out of 5 stars New to Australian Idol.......2005-10-12

I am a fan of American Idol, of course. It just so happened when I was doing an on-line search that I came across Guy Sebastian and Shannon Noll. I was curious so I ordered this CD and Beautiful Life by Guy. I really really like this CD a lot. More than Guy's CD actually. Shannon has that little scratch to his voice that I love! He looks hot and sounds great. Learn to Fly is just a fab song. I can't stop listening to it. His rendition of What about Me is super as well! The whole Idol series is about finding undiscovered talent. Too many of the American contestants are R&B singers. About time there was an Idol - somewhere - that does some pop. As a previous review stated - Shannon does pop/country-esque songs. Great Great Great! I will definitely buy his next CD! Shannon has a new fan in the States!

5 out of 5 stars Fresh and convincing.......2005-07-30

While I don't usually delve into male singers that often, this Australian Idol runner-up has all the elements that I like in a performer. The songs are fresh, he sings them convincingly and there's enough melding of pop, rock, and country to keep my interest months after I first heard him (then, purchased this disc). It doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes either...

4 out of 5 stars Talent from Australian Idol.......2004-07-22

I was in New Zealand for a semester studying abroad and I didn't even know this guy was from Australian Idol. I listened to it at the CD store and I was impressed. I especially like Learn to Fly and New Beginning. I really enjoy this CD! If you like Sister Hazel-type groups you will like this album!

4 out of 5 stars GOOD BUT NOT GREAT.......2004-07-17

Basically this album is still acceptable. He got a really different voice compare to other singers. And i think this voice would suits Country Rock music style more. An ok album to be own. Frankly speaking, I think the other Australian Idol Season 1's finalist whose named Rob Mills(a.k.a known as Millsy or Millswah) has a better album "Up All Night" produced compare to this one. Also keep an eye out for Paulini Curuenavuli's album "One Determind Heart" and Cosima De Vito's forthcoming album(currently the album is on working in US with music producer Diane Warren), they will be an even better albums for sure. Check them out guys ;>

3 out of 5 stars Very, very cool!!.......2004-05-22

My best friend in OZ sent this CD to me for a birthday present and I really am enjoying it very much. I like his voice and I like the music. I can't stop listening to it.

This says a lot coming from me, considering I can't stand "AMERICAN IDOL!"

5 out of 5 stars THATS WHAT Im TALKING ABOUT.......2006-05-23

boyoboy, this is close to being one of my favourite albums of all time.

There is not a track in it that does not make me weak at the knees.
Or just plain weep.

This is one to listen to on your own, with the lights dim and the candles soft.

There is the big beautiful ballad WHAT ABOUT ME that has just gone 4 x platinum and is one of the biggest selling singles in Australian music history. Shannon sings it with such heart, and his version is all set to become a great Aussie classic ballad.

Then follows a catchy rock number, DRIVE, written by Bryan Adams that will be the next giant single. The lyrics are upbeat and groovy and are about 'going all the way'-- a slice too subtle for the previous reviewer on here.

Then there is a selection of haunting, emotional and downright sexy ballads where Shannon sings and creates this wonderful chemistry that just sizzles your blood.

Shannon has this lovely texture to his voice that makes 'love lost' really wrenching.

BURN is incredibly sexy, as the verses and chorus blend seamlessly together sung in that hot yummy voice:

"Oh, you twist and turn me
Ignite and stir me, yeah..."

NEW BEGINNING brings out the most beautiful lyric lilts in Shannon's voice:

"If I'd known what you would say
I'd have turned and walked away."

TUNE IN is sad -- "Out of work, out of place and out of love" -- but hopeful in the end. It really is one of my favourite tracks.

LEARN TO FLY is a complete tearjerker about finding your way through the impossible roads life sometimes asks us to travel:

"When you feel the dream is over
Feel the world is on your shoulders...
Even though the walls may crumble
And you find you always stumble...

Remember never to surrender to the dark...

Learn to fly."

This is really wrenching, but beautifully melodic.

The really big tearjerker is the emotive, THE WAY SHE LOVED ME about love lost and gone forever.

"I light a candle for her every evening
Pour me a glass of wine
I will remember so clearly
The way she love me for a time."

This will make you weep into your wine, this track.

There is so much beautiful emotion in this album. It is just a pleasure to own.

And, hey, what the heck! I am going for gold and giving it 5 shining stars! Because they just don't come much better than this!

Well done, Shannon.

I just love it.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Debut!.......2005-07-23

I have recently moved to Australia & in searching
out some fresh new Australian music was recommended
"THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT" by friends in the
music business in New York, this ia a wonderful effort
by a young man brand new to the industry, a delightful
mix of rock, ballads, pop, something for just about
everyone, well done Shannon, keep up the good work &
I'm absolutely looking forward to your new album!

1 out of 5 stars Rubbish at best, an insult to music at worst.......2004-07-07

Utter dross, a butchering of some half decent tunes into a worthless mess. Alex Smith and the boys of Moving Pictures might be happy with the royalty cheques, but I can't help but thinking this insipid version of "What About Me?" should make them re-release the original and put this mediocre imitation to sleep permanently.

I only heard this album once, but it was once too often. Leave this for the bargain bin at the local CD store and for garage sales where it will surely end up.

How come Steve from Melbourne is now Chicky from Dalby? How come Chicky from Dalby is now Annette from Kingaroy?

4 out of 5 stars Love this one!.......2004-04-29

I love this album. There is not a single track that you want to hurry through.

Shannon has a big 'rock' voice but he sings soft romantic ballads so sexily that he burns.

In fact, one of my favourite tracks on this album is called Burn -- and it does.

Wow!

4 out of 5 stars Really excellent album.......2004-04-28

There are so many beautiful and very emotional tracks on this album that would make excellent singles: Burn, Wise, New Beginnings, Tune In and Learn to Fly, not to mention The Way She Loved Me and The Way That I Feel. He has chosen beautiful tunes to include in his album.

And his voice has tiny touches of Richard Marx and Bryan Adams and Australia's own giant, John Farnham, but is quite different from all of those and distinctive in his own right.

I really recommend That's What I'm Talking About. This album is very addictive and once you start listening you just don't want to play anything else.

    5 out of 5 stars fantastic.......2006-07-15

i just bought this album (finally old enough to get a job, earn money & spend it how i want) i know now why everyone i discuss Shannon Noll with who has heard his music or been to one of his 100s of concerts says what an amazing talent he is... awesome songs, awesome talent & awesome human 5 outta 5!

    5 out of 5 stars TWITA.......2006-05-23

#1 Jen you need to stick to frotown before we pay it a visit while you sleep & return the favour.

MOST IMPORTANTLY Shannon Noll is NOT an Australian Idol & having him referred to in such a way is an insult to him, he is a wonderful Australian talent and this is a wonderful debut album.

1 out of 5 stars So NOT the Australian Idol.......2004-06-07

It was a sign of how far Australia has come when they voted Guy Sebastian the winner of Australian Idol over this "Aussie Bloke". Whilst I don't have an issue with the kind of person Shannon seems to be, or the fact that his blend of Aussie-Country-Rock has it's fans, it is insulting to the Australian public and the talent of Guy to list this CD as the Australian Idol Winner (with or without a question mark). If you want some standard Aussie country rock, and aren't too fussed with pitch, diction or tone - buy this album. If not, and you want to experience the best that Australia has to offer - buy Guy Sebastian's "Just As I Am" (which can also be purchased through Amazon.

I was looking forward to this album but unfortunately the lyrics on the album are very, well, boring and uninteresting

"I've got a car, I've got a big black shiny car"

Not a great opening for a cd in my opinion

Alot won't agree with me this album really isn't worth the money, same with Guy's album.

Spend your money on cold chisel or living
