This posthumous release gathers together the best-known inspirational numbers by "Gentleman" Jim Reeves, the East Texas troubadour who perfected traditional country's smoothed-out Nashville sound. With his inimitable velvety baritone, Reeves caresses each note in his signature laid-back style, performing with genuine confidence rather than smarm. "I'll Fly Away" marries Reeves's classic tones with Floyd Cramer-styled piano and "Padre of Old San Antone" captures the highly polished Tex-Mex flavor introduced by Reeves on his monster hit "Mexican Joe." "We Thank Thee," an eloquent ballad of gratitude, exemplifies the sophisticated country-pop that Reeves and contemporary Patsy Cline popularized, "In the Garden" shines brightly with ringing guitar coupled with Lawrence Welkian group background vocals, and "Trouble in the Amen Corner" is a first-class tearjerking talkie. --Paige La Grone
Customer Reviews:
Jim Reeves At His Best.......2006-11-12
I usually do not write reviews (I don't do concerts either) but this one I could not pass up. If for whatever reason at the end of a hard day you need to relax, listen to this CD. The music has a most soothing effect and when it is over I feel real good. I am an avid Jim Reeves fan and his beautiful voice is always the key, but the song selections on this disc are wonderful.
All Time Gospel Favorites by Jim Reeves.......2006-03-13
We love Jim Reeves and his music. We just returned from a visit to a hospice where a close friend of ours is dying. We played it in our car going and coming. It is quite comforting.
Almost As Good As It Gets.......2000-01-29
The recording is excellent. Many of the songs I have heard before but there are some good ones that I haven't. I would recommend this to any Jim Reeves fan. I rated it 4 stars because I have the "Essential Jim Reeves" and I feel it deserves the 5 stars. This one isn't quite as good.
this is an excellant cd.......1999-02-01
Christian or not you will enjoy this music, it has a calming affect if your having a bad,or not It's great music. It also has an important message. I can't say enough, it's just beautiful, enjoy. JESUS LOVES YOU, beleive it. If you want to talk about JESUS and your future contact me, no silly stuff please

Customer Reviews:
More than the sum of the parts........2001-02-04
I bought this as wallpaper music - and got a very pleasant surprise!
Several of the pieces stopped me in my tracks, made me sit down and forced me to listen.
Michala Petri demonstrates a masterly control of her instrument and a high level of musicianship in a wide ranging selection of material - from reconstituted Bach to specially composed 20th Century pieces.
Outstanding for me was the Sammartini Concerto: Ms Petri shows a lightness of touch combined with serious enthusiasm and an obvious delight that literally stopped me from working and made me listen. The support given by the Moscow Virtuosi also deserves mention.
Koppel's pieces are fun, as are the arrangements from Grieg and Satie.
Overall, although this could be taken as a glorified sampler... it is much more - there are complete works played intelligently and lighter, throw away pieces you'll want to chase after and listen to again.
A Great First CD.......2000-06-22
After falling in love with the recorder, I started searching for CDs and this was the first I bought. It quickly became a favorite CD. I like the fact that it ranges over a wide period--Baroque to Modern, and showcases the instrument in different settings. The liner notes are quite comprehensive as well. In a word--enchanting.
The sublime collection.......2000-06-18
I must confess up front to being a Michala Petri fanatic. I also play the recorder, although after listening to this album, I feel like throwing my instruments into the nearest dumpster.
Michala Petri is a national hero in Denmark, and a recognized name among classical music fans in Europe, Asia, and Canada. If you listen to this album, you will ask yourself how the music business in the USA can frantically promote "The Three Tenors" while mostly ignoring the genius of this amazing young woman.
This is not your kid's recorder. Ms Petri's complete technical and musical mastery of her instrument transforms the recorder into the equal of other familiar solo instruments, but with its own peculiar sound, penetrating but sweet, that sets it apart.
This album is made up mostly of tracks from her many earlier recordings. Some are transcriptions of well-loved piano miniatures (the Grieg numbers are perhaps more charming here than on the piano, if that is possible); of baroque works for flute, recorder, or strings; of modern recorder music written for Ms Petri by contemporary masters. Some are accompanied by small orchestra and others by Ms Petri's husband, the excellent guitarist and lutist Lars Hannibal. The combination of recorder and guitar is an intimate match made in heaven, and I recommend also this duo's complete album, 'Air'.
Ultimate Collection is Gross Understatement.......2000-03-28
This is by far the best "sampler" I have ever heard. The playing is so superb and the recorder so perfect a vehicle that I found myself listing to too often played pieces like Satie's Gymopedie No.1 as if for the first time. Same for the Grieg. It is very hard to believe these renderings aren't the original intention of the composers. This is a guaranteed winner.

Premier Collection a hit.......2006-05-10
Loved this c.d.
Streisand's rendition of MEMORY has always been my favorite version of the song outside of the show...Betty Buckley's is my favorite within the show. I am a Streisand afficiando, and this is my FAVORITE Streisand song period..so it must be good...
Michael Ball singing anything is wonderful...It captures the wonderful feeling of being on a cloud when you listen to this album
It is a great CD........2005-10-14
Whenever I listen to this CD, my heart and my soul are deeply touched.
Problem.......2003-11-02
Has no one else noticed that on the version of this CD produced in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada "Past the Point of No Return" from "The Phantom of the Opera" is NOT Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman? The male is obviously Colm Wilkenson (most famous for originating the role of Jean Valjean), apparently the soprano is Rebecca Caine?
Okay.......2003-04-17
If you are an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan, you probably already own some of the versions of songs on this CD. Having them all in one package is nice. I like to listen to this at work, as I know the music so well that it is nice background. I could do without Amigos Para Siempre.
Even Better than the Original.......2001-08-18
This anthology is definately better than the original Premiere recording. Here we get the star who were famous for the part they are performing. On the original collection, Phantom of the Opera was sung by someone I had never heard of and the tone and atmosphere were all wrong. I am pleased to say that here we get performers who are established in the role or are well-known for including the song in shows or other recordings. I love "Amigas para siempre," "Hosanna," and all the others. I find it fascinating that we get two Josephs fot the price of one. Not only can we compare the merits of Donny Osmond and Michael Damian, but two others as well

At Last!.......2007-04-17
I have finally found Kenny Rankin CDs here on Amazon (as well as CDBaby) and what great joy it's added to me life. I can't believe I've survived all these years without listening to his glorious voice while driving in my car. I've rediscovered the perfection that is his voice and the clever lyrics of many of his tunes.
I work in the "industry" and I still marvel at the songs that first lit the fires in my mind and heart decades ago. The music is still fresh and relevant.
Simply an amazing talent.
Kenny Rankin Resides in My Karass.......2007-01-22
Kurt Vonnegut, the brilliant and revered sci fi oriented novelist of generations ago wrote about something he termed a "karass", something inside of you that is your own systemic mausoleum of sundry items that although perhaps of even an inconsequential aspect are all of inherent importance to you. My karass has all of Kenny Rankin's Cd's assembled as a unit together with my favorite carrot cake and especially including Bottom Line Encore collection, which is a brilliantly produced and performed CD that is simply special to me as one of Kenny's millions of fans and admirers.Getting back to Kenny and digressing from the esoteric ruminations of cult authors past, I first heard his name mentioned more than thirty years ago while listening to Allison Steele, The Nightbird on the old WNEW FM radio, one of New York's first hippy stations to step forward giving us artists like Richie Havens. the Chambers Brothers and Mad Dogs and Englishmen with Joe Cocker.Kenny Rankin was starting to catch fire then at a now defunct club called My Father's Place in Roslyn, Long Island. As Kenny started to be come a staple product at that club, his listening public began to realize that Kenny's voice is much like a musical instrument in and of itself. Kenny's immaculate guitar playing and his uncanny cover song abilities make him one of the most treasured artists still touring and besides,he has got to be good to make it into my karass. My favorite tracks on this CD are Penny Lane, Haven't We Met and Why Do Fools Fall In Love and She' a Lady- all send us reeling in amazement of this super talented and gifted recording artist. If you don't already have Kenny Rankin Bottom Line Encore Collection, as a CD Reviewer of some notoriety I humbly suggest that you initiate what will ultimately become a truly pleasurable purchase.
Jay Adler, CD Reviewer
While Kenny's Guitar Gently Smiles.......2005-01-24
"I just feel privileged that I've been allowed to continue in my craft, and I've been encouraged by all the positive feedback I've gotten from people over the years. When someone tells you a song changed their life, or inspired them to look at things in a slightly different way, well, you can't ask for a better reward than that." ~ Kenny Rankin
FLASHBACK. Late seventies. Hearing "Haven't We Met" for the first time on the airwaves and liking the song. It was love-at-first-hear! The album: "The Kenny Rankin Album." Some of the songs: "When Sunny Gets Blue," "On And On," ("...puts on Sinatra and he starts to cry...") "Here's That Rainy Day," "Groovin'," "You Are So Beautiful," and "I Love You." And that was the beginning of Day One!
Then came more nice albums: "After The Roses," "Peaceful," "Here In My Heart," "Inside," "A Song For You." And more great songs: "Misty Roses," "Sunday Kind Of Love," "One More Goodbye, One More Hello," "Inside," "In The Name of Love," "A House of Gold," "Peaceful," "What Matters Most" and the list is endless.
NOW. "Professional Dreamer" on my Wish List.
Mr. Rankin has a special way of singing a song so uniquely his own. And all the songs he recorded became exceptionally great and left lasting impressions to the listeners' tasteful ears. I have loved and enjoyed Kenny Rankin's music as far back as I can remember. He's such a great singer, composer, arranger and a gifted guitarist as well, and he's one of my all-time favorite musicians. Needless to say, his music has greatly moved and inspired me.
"The Encore Collection" is my most recent Kenny Rankin CD. It was recorded LIVE at The Bottom Line (New York) in 1990 and the repertoire is simply fabulous with seventeen best-loved songs performed to perfection and to the delight of his audience and listeners. Listening to this CD is like being in that live concert. The sound quality is flawless and Mr. Rankin's performances are outstanding.
For me, the most special number is his marvelous a cappella performance of Irving Berlin's evergreen, "Always" (this is my late parents' ultimate favorite song, and mine, too). It just blew me away while listening to it and I had to press repeat quite a number of times! It's simply spellbinding and now I realized that his voice is the greatest I've ever heard after Sinatra! I'd say this is the very highlight of the concert because of the audience's enthusiastic prolonged ovation.
The rest of the highlights are The Fab 4's "With A Little Help From My Friends," "Penny Lane" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (with a touch of Rodgers & Hart's "My Funny Valentine"), a medley of Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Doralice" and Stevie Wonder's "You Are The Sunshine of My Life," one of his personal favorite songs "Why Do Fools Fall In Love," the very haunting "Inside" (which he whispery ended with three nice words..."I love you"...then applause, applause and more applause), and of course, to me the most memorable song that drawn me to his music, "Haven't We Met."
The FINALE was "Blackbird" which he started with a 'bark' and ended with...."I Love You, Good Night." But the audience was clamoring for more...more....and more!
And the ENCORE was his heartfelt a cappella rendition of a very nice old song "Because of You" which he started with...."This is all for you for all the years." The words and music are so enchanting...
"Because of you
There's a song in my heart
Because of you
My romance had its start
Because of you
The sun will shine
The moon and stars will say you're mine
Forever and never to part."
What a lovely way to wrap up the terrific concert! He has an extraordinary ability to express himself thru his beautiful music and his impeccable guitar playing skills. Congratulations Mr. Rankin for your unparalleled performances!
This recording is truly remarkable and it's a MUST-HAVE to all Rankin fans. Five stars would be underestimating this superb CD. I'd give it ten stars! I'm sure you'll all agree with me.
Like I Was Young Again!.......2003-11-10
Listening to this CD just takes me back to clubs in New York during the late 70's. Real honest musicians, at their best! Saw Kenny many times back then, at the Bottom Line, My Fathers Place, The Other (Bitter) End. He is as good here as ever. This is a great set of what Kenny does best. I highly recommend
this CD to both old & new fan alike.
Greatest Live CD Ever!.......2000-08-24
I have prided myself over the years as being a connoisseur of a wide variety of musical styles. Albums and cassettes aside I have a collection of well over 600 cds. This is the only one that I have ever bought a second copy so I would have another one available if anything ever happened to the original. I bought it months ago and still listen to it almost daily. Kenny accompanies himself on guitar, piano, and sings a capella. It is just him and the music. It doesn't get any better than this. I grew up with The Beatles and they covered Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, and others so well that their versions became the standards. I never in my life imagined myself saying this, but Kenny's covers of I've Just See a Face and Blackbird on this CD may be better than the originals. That's heavy stuff!

A good budget collection.......1999-10-08
The newest collection for Tony Orlando & Dawn features five hit singles and five album cuts mostly from the debut "Candida" album. The fanatastic version of "Love the One Your're With" is the only song not already on any other available Tony Orlando & & Dawn disc.

Roger Whittaker / RCA Victor releases.......2007-02-24
There seems to be some discord in the commentary regarding not only this disc but others available now as to whether or not certain versions of certain songs, particularly "The Last Farewell" are the original recordings or not.
It appears as if the original circa 1971 release of "The Last Farewell" was on EMI Records, outside of the United States. Listeners here in the US were in all probability first exposed to the circa 1975 release on RCA Victor; I have recently purchased this CD and played it for my brother, and we are both entirely positive that this CD's version is identical with that heard on 'easy listening' stations in the US in the mid-late 1970's. I cannot prove whether or not the RCA and EMI releases were actually different recordings, or if the RCA release was the original re-licensed and remastered since the EMI version is unavailable. But rest assured, if you heard this song on the radio at that time or else recall the television advertised Roger Whittaker album (released by Tee Vee Records, but actually pressed on RCA Victor discs and labeled as such) then this CD under review here will not disappoint. (More on changes in later versions of this song in a moment.)
Having said that, the other popular Roger Whittaker songs on this CD will be familiar to many -- but the song "Dirty Old Town" is a surprise to this listener. It has a lovely melody, incredible vocal by Whittaker and very rich (and seemingly typical RCA) instrumental backing. The result is haunting. That song, which I'd never heard prior to having purchased this CD would be worth the price alone; I like it better than either the title track of the album or "The Last Farewell."
I own many hundreds of songs (largely by Artie Shaw) on both LP and CD and there is indeed some fidelity loss on many CD versions. Regarding this Roger Whittaker CD, though, I find the loss between the original high fidelity analog quality and present CD quality FAR less than the average. Perhaps we need an old vacuum-tube console stereo to help duplicate the original experiences - but as disc or tape to CD re-releases go, I would rate "New World in the Morning: The Encore Collection" as very good quality.
Finally, as Roger Whittaker went along, not only did he perform "The Last Farewell" many thousands of times, but his voice changed with age as well. Thus, we have, in later recordings not only changes in the actual sound of his voice, but also changes in the notes he chose to hit and in cadence (and tempo, later versions tending to get slightly faster). If one strings together a large number of performances of just this song chronologically the changes are obvious; the version of "The Last Farewell" on THIS CD is my personal favorite. Should anyone wish a primer on Roger Whittaker, this CD is it - although in point of fact it does contain at least one much later (live) recording, so that listeners can get an idea of just how different he sounds older and live.
Oh -- one more note. Cover photos can be misleading. When Roger Whittaker recorded "New World in the Morning," "Durham Town," "The Last Farewell" and "Dirty Old Town" AS HEARD ON THIS CD his hair and beard were still all black. The cover photo shows a later Roger Whittaker, since it's a much later compilation!

Poor Quality.......2005-09-02
I have several LPs and cassette tapes of Roger Whittaker. The recordings on this CD do NOT have the fullness or richness of Whittaker's voice. Anyone thinking these recordings sound great would be shocked at how bad this CD is if they heard earlier (perhaps non BMG) recordings. Also, the cadence of several of the recordings doesn't match the earlier recordings (and the changes are for the worse). I must wonder if the recordings on this CD were mastered from MP3 (or AAC Apple) downloads and then run through an audio enhancement program in an attempt to compensate for all the information (i.e., quality) lost when using these (and all other) compression codecs (Note: normal/commercial quality CDs use AIFF encoding and this encoding loses far less information/quality) . Also, whatever happened to the AAD, ADD, and DDD markings on CD?
If you want to hear the real Roger Whittaker (and he is great) this CD doesn't come close.
Good if you like this kind of stuff.......2002-04-23
I have tell the story of how Roger Whittaker reminds me of Bozo. Trust me, it connects with this album. For years, I lived in the Chicago area, which is the home of superstation WGN. For years the show I watched on WGN the most was Bozo. And for years, the WGN theme song seemed to be this short horn piece that somehow reminded me of waves crashing and something important coming.
Imagine my surprise when I listened to this album and found that this horn piece is the opening to what seems to be the signature piece of Roger Whittaker, "The Last Farewell". When I heard it the first time, I asked my wife if Bozo was going to be on next.
That aside, this is a collection of songs, mostly written by other people, featuring a guy with a very soothing voice. Most of the songs are pleasant. Some of the arrangements sound like they were done in somebody's bedroom studio (in their simplicity), but with this kind of stuff, it doesn't need to be overproduced.
If you need a good chick album to get your lady in the mood after you've just given her a new puppy dog, this is the one for you. Trust me from experience, it works.
So you're driving in your car away from home..........2001-04-26
So you're driving in your car away from home and punching around the radio dial and you hear someone singing who is different and you like his voice and then the radio tells you that was Roger Whittaker and you decide to buy one of his CD's and find out if you really do like his voice...
Buy this one.
Live life to the fullest and be happy.......2001-02-09
The present is all we have. We are given the grace, the strength and one another to help us make it through the day. Therefore, live your life to the fullest each day (New World in the Morning). The Last Farewell reminds to enjoy life, to appreciate the little things, and never be afraid or ashamed to express true sentiments.
