Skepticism are one of the most important Funereal Doom Metal bands in existance. Their earlier releases such as "Stormcrowfleet," "Lead & Aether" and especially "Aes" were seminal contributions to the world of dark and reclusive Doom Metal music. This release however, sounds much less inspired, lazy, and rather boring. In the past the band was slow, yet the atmosphere was hypnotic and totally enthralling. Now it is just slow. This release is very short, two longish songs, but they never really *do* much. The second and title track, is basically just a bunch of juvenille *BONG* sounds behind what might have been a halfway descent Doom Metal song. Sorry, but this is not 'stoner rock' and I am really irritated that a band I always assumed had class and intellect would include something so corny on their CD. The EP ends with a bunch of useless sound effects and neither of the songs really develop or offer anything interesting to the listener, which is a shame because this band is definitely capable of much more.

This was EXTREMELY disappointing to me, as I am a HUGE fan of this band. I can't recommend this release however, and it is sad that Amazon only carries this one. Contact Red Stream Records and pick up "Aes" and the early work of this band. They are truly fantastic but pass this release by.
