Rob Thomas achieved huge initial success with his band, Matchbox 20's first record, ‘Yourself or Someone Like You'. The album generated a slew of hit singles and eventually went 12 x platinum. He followed that with ‘Smooth' a collaboration with Carlos Santana and a worldwide hit single. The pressure to go solo after that was probably overwhelming but instead he returned to his band and produced two more hit albums. In 2004 during a break from constant touring, he finally wrote his solo album and in 2005, ‘Something To Be' was released to critical and public acclaim. The album marks a much lighter, funkier edge to his songwriting and a distinctly more commercial feel than the harder rock sound of Matchbox 20.
