Customer Reviews:
Classic Hard Rock Collection.......2006-07-21
Canada's Coney Hatch was very much a product of its time. They played melodic hard rock with a metal edge, and had that certain indefinable quality that lets you know instantly that you're hearing mid-eighties hard rock. There are shades of Journey and Foreigner-style AOR here, but the band's sound is closer to bands like Axe, Rail, and countrymen April Wine. Heavy, but not quite metal. Melodic, but not quite AOR. Definitely hard rock though.
Best of Three is a compilation of material from Coney Hatch's three studio albums. Surprisingly for a "best of" compilation, there are no live tracks, though there is one song "Fuel For the Fire" that is exclusive to this disc. Best of Three is a great introduction to Coney Hatch, a band that should appeal to fans of classic hard rock.
Good Music, But a Complete lack of Hooks..........2003-10-05
By that I mean, each song sounds good, in theory they have great grooves and nice solos and they make you think this is going to be a great song, but for some reason, each and every song lacks the certain something to really make me get into it. They sound a little too much like Loverboy to me.
I recommend their version of "Hey Operator", "Fantasy" is a good ballad-type song great harmony, and I can't live without a track like "Where I Draw the Line" and "The Girl From Last Night's Dream" strange how this one seems to say exactly what I've expeirenced before, after a dream like that, it felt so real.. and I thought I was just crazy...well maybe...but that song is cool. Also I gotta plug "First Time for Everything". Again, it's not a problem with the music, and the singer's voice is also great, I like him and he seems fresh and not like any one else but the songs...I don't know...the band seems to miss the killer hook almost everytime. Save your money, rip the few songs from a friend who owns this and go get Loverboy. 6/17
GREAT CD!.......2002-02-10
This greatest hits is a compilation of music from the 3 albums that Coney Hatch released around the 80's. I would prefer to have the 3 individual discs, but unfortuntately one of them is not available. This is a good collection, but with all greatest hits albums there are favorites missing, but let's get into this CD. The good news is there are at least 5 songs from each of their releases and you get almost a discful of great tunes.
Coney Hatch wasn't quite Hard Rock, but they had a straight forward approach to music and had a great beat, guitar work, and vocals. I have to thank Kim Mitchell for helping these guys out and getting them signed to Anthem records to get their music released to the world. With luck maybe OUTA HAND will get released on CD soon and the world can have the complete Coney Hatch. I'm not familiar with singles by the band, so, I'll just get into a few of their great songs you may want to treat yourself to. My favorites here are "First Time for Everything", "Don't Say Make Me", "This Ain't love", and "Devil's Deck". I would buy this just for those songs, but you also get AOR hits "Hey Operator", "To Feel the Feeling Again", "You Ain't Got Me", and "Stand Up". It's unfortunate you can't listen to clips of these songs, because Coney Hatch is full of catchy riffs and choruses.
These guys are from Canada, but present a great talent on all of their music. If you've heard them and like them, this is a great start. On the other hand, if you are looking for something new with a good sound, try BEST OF THREE. You won't regret it!
An Excellent sounding 80's rock band album........1999-04-22
I first purchased this group on Album, and listened to it often. I remember liking the power riffs and sound/vocals this band produced.
The album has since dissappeared, and I want this title back in my music catalog.
Thank-you. Jeff Cunningham
has dark tones with crisp suttle bass.......1999-04-16
this band created a sound of the new wave but with the same constant baet of rock and roll. It is unfortunate that this band is no longer around to pump out some of the finist music that is worthy of being purchase with money.

Customer Reviews:
a highly impressive start to an astonishingly great career.......2006-01-24
Listening today to The Cure's debut album "Three Imaginary Boys", originally released in May of 1979, it's intriguing to see how it compares with their subsequent '80s records. But don't get the wrong idea--even though Robert Smith himself has admitted over the years to not being particularly happy with this album, "Three Imaginary Boys" is far more than a mere curiosity for diehard Cure fans; this is a highly impressive debut album. It's even more remarkable when you consider that Smith was less than 2 months past his 20th birthday when the album was released, and his vocals do have a youthful exuberance on many of these songs.
The group often displays a sense of humor here that's completely absent from the next few albums. Songs that point this out include "Grinding Halt", with its 'bouncing ball' intro and 'dying engine' ending; the amusing, cartoonishly creepy "Subway Song"; the rambling "So What" with its classified-section lyrics; and the Jimi Hendrix cover "Foxy Lady" which actually features then-bass guitarist Michael Dempsey on lead vocals, and sounds mind-bogglingly like Devo. Also, although not intentionally funny, notice how Lol Tolhurst, who was the drummer at the time, falls back on the same damn drum fill on all of the uptempo numbers, which does get to be a bit annoying--it's been reported he wasn't a very accomplished drummer at the time, and it really does show.
There are also no noticeable keyboards anywhere on the album. A harmonica crops up on "Subway Song", but that's basically the only deviation from the guitar-bass-drums instrumental arrangements. Somewhat ironically though, this album actually comes across as a bit more diverse than the next couple.
Although many of the tunes sound underwritten, there's lots and lots of ear-catching stuff here. "Object" is surprisingly punkish; and the uptempo "Grinding Halt" has a great bass hook and sounds strikingly similar to The Jam. The skeletal, starkly-arranged "10:15 Saturday Night" is engagingly mysterious-sounding. "Accuracy" and "Meathook" each have crafty guitar licks. "Another Day", with its woozy-sounding guitar intro, is a very fine tune with a melancholy, yet strangely uplifting feel. "So What" has an irresistibly catchy, riffy backing track. "Fire In Cairo" is a wonderfully catchy, mellow, mid-tempo minor-keyed tune; and also excellent is the title track which strongly foreshadows the direction the band would take on the following album "Seventeen Seconds".
So, although it's not a masterpiece like so many of The Cure's '80s albums, "Three Imaginary Boys" is still a very fine start to their astonishingly great career.
(P.S. "Three Imaginary Boys" in its entirety wasn't released in the US until Rhino issued it in a 2 CD "deluxe" format in December of 2004. In late '79 or early '80, the "Boys Don't Cry" album was released in the US which uses 8 tracks from the "Three Imaginary Boys" album, and adds the title track, "Plastic Passion", "Jumping Someone Else's Train", and "Killing An Arab" to the track list. If you're on a budget and/ or aren't a totally obsessive fan, you're probably better off just sticking to the "Boys Don't Cry" release for your fix of pre-'80s Cure.)
the songs are great.......2004-09-30
For a debut album, especially that of a three piece, this is brilliant. Working within the tight constraints of guitar, bass, drums and vocals, this actually comes off very well, despite its all over the place sound ( it reminds me of a K-tel compilation in its diversity ). Even the novelty cover of Foxy Lady, with its almost smug " rock is dead" deadpan vocal delivery, is amusing, if nothing else.
Auspicious Debut by Cult Giants.......2004-02-20
While not a landmark album, except that it is the Cure's debut, `3IB' was a creative mixture of punk and post-punk, released in 1979 right as the cusp between the 2 scenes was developing; Siouxsie and the Sisters were formed right on this same razor's edge. The key song's were the suicidal "10:15 Saturday Night" and the title track. 10:15 is basically a minimal, almost brushed rather than outright strummed acoustic sound with a very nervous, desperate undercurrent. Then the jarring, jagged electric guitar screams in making a sound that truly sounds like someone cutting his or her wrists - it's simple but brilliant. The title track remains one of the band's best ever, a brooding, iconic post-punk masterpiece similar to Bauhaus' classic "She's in Parties". Here is a quick summary of the other tracks:
Accuracy - short & sweet punk
Grinding Halt - like above but with clever beat/rhythm that slows down to come to a grinding halt
Another Day & object - short & bratty punk; Smith sounds like he's 12
Subway Song - minimal and very creepy... a well kept Goth secret
Foxy Lady - a funny, fast-paced cover of Hendrix (Cure doing Jimmy - ha!)
Meathook & So What - back to short, bratty punk
Fire in Cairo - quirky punk... funny chorus when he quickly spells out
"f-i-r-e-i-n-c-a-i-r-o"
Solid and punchy throughout with a pair of great songs. Auspicious start with some towering moments.
Simply a classic.......2003-10-12
This is the record that sounds odd when the rest of their discography is taken into consideration. But at the same time, it makes perfect sense that they made an album that sounded like this. It's very representative of its time period, but at the same time, it doesn't sound dated. On the contrary. I like this record so much more than when I first heard it. It's a very subtle album, but in the subtleties is where its charm lies. The songs are some of Mr. Smith's most enduring and catchy. No less than three post punk classics are included in the form of "Subway Song," "Fire In Cairo," and the undeniably great "10.15 Saturday Night." All Cure fans should hear this album at least once to hear one of the band's finest albums, and one of the finest albums of the initial post-punk/new wave movement.
The album.......2002-02-28
These songs are more than 20 years old, and remain some of the best musical experiences around. Time has not altered their strength. Much the contrary.
I discovered the Cure when this album was released in France. Those were the days. Therefore, I guess I'm sort of stuck with my fond memories of these fantastic tunes, as I don't quite agree with other reviewers. To put things simply : this first album is my favorite.
I remember that upon discovering this record, I thought : How did these guys manage to construct such a powerful debut ? The first tune was arresting (10:15), then it got better and better. I was amazed. They were confident enough to keep the best tunes buried inside !
Sure, the Cure evolved after this first opus, they got more experimental (Seventeen seconds, my second best), onright depressing (Pornography, "the black gem"), or playful (Japanese whispers), and then they toyed with these ideas, fleshing them out, creating variations (Disintegration, Kiss...). But they never captured again the brilliance of their debut, this obvious display of Robert Smith's genius.
My guess is that Robert was disappointed with the response to his first songs, got weird, depressed, then gradually decided, I'm able to give them the tunes they want. Consequently, the Cure released "Japanese whispers" and the others. I confess I listened to each one of them. But at the time I did not want to admit that I was gradually losing interest (yeah, that's right, I was getting older. But hey, I don't dribble all over yet).
This first record has got it all. This IS "the Cure". Any "real fan" should, in my opinion, listen to it. Try to forget about those "synth layers". Had this first record been the succes it deserved, my guess is that the Cure would have subsequently followed a quite different path. But then again, who knows ? Art is such a mystery...
So, there we are. I don't think I'm a purist. I'm glad the Cure got the immense following it rightly deserves. I don't systematically consider first albums as the best albums. But. This one is the one. Believe me. Treat yourself. Do it for Robert Smith. Whatever. THIS IS THE REAL STUFF.

Three 's a charm.......2006-08-29
Another solid album from the UK babes. Hole in the head is one of those songs that if you here it enough love or hate it you can't stop listening to it. Once again this trio continues to show growth with each album as well as a continuing effort to showcase vocal talents with the ballads such as with the last two tracks on this album. But....... I still say what best represents the babes are the party jams like hole in the head or In the middle. Great album.
Have a taste of Sugababes!.......2005-09-06
There are very few straight pop acts I can stand, UK teenage trio Sugababes are easily among them. I fell in love with their music right from the brilliant `Overload', `Freak like me' (which I preferred to the original by Adina Howard), and `Round round'.
The babes have always stood apart from the rest, maybe it is their aloof cool, or their offbeat pop, or the fact that they write most of their songs, I don't know but they are great.
`Three' is as the name implies, their third album. It starts off with the superb catchy man-bashing `Hole in the head' with lyrics like `Oh boy do you miss me like a hole in the head', and a jerky slight Bangra feel. A UK #1.
`In the middle' is an upbeat number with off beat sounding horns and a fab bridge. A UK top 10 hit. There are other upbeat danceable songs like the quirky retro sounding `Nasty ghetto' with warbly sounding guitar.
There's the rock tinged intricately layered `Whatever makes you happy' (with a sample of the 1986 Sly Fox hit `Let's go all the way), the swirling `Situation's heavy' (with a slight 2-step feel), `A million different ways' (which also has a Bangra feel with jangling sitars), the funky R&B of `Buster' and `Twisted'. Each song is a totally different sound and feel from the other.
Then there are the beautiful ballads; The Dianne Warren penned `Too lost in you' (I usually find her ballads too cheesy and dramatic but this is just great, great electric guitar and no over-the-top vocals. It was a UK top 10), `Caught in a moment' and `Sometimes' really showcasing the girls impressive vocals.
Pop perfection!
Great CD!.......2005-08-07
A must buy! My favorite song on it is, Too Lost in You.

hey the album is really good plus their new single "caught in a moment" is so great but the u.s. realease would had been so much better i mean they delayed their album realese here and they didn't realese at all!! i mean the album is alright but the price was unberable and the blue one from austraila was cheaper but it was missing a lot of tracks from the great brittan realese sorry but event the hit "hole in the head" was a tremendous track no one else in the u.s. could not find the album so oh well
Awesome CD.......2004-12-31

old wine in a new bottle.......2004-07-09
Fantastic CD! The oboist with this group continues to astound with each of their releases. I don't personally care for the vocal portions added to LeTombeau, but I wonder what Ravel might have thought? The 2 new members of the quartet really seem to pull their weight (and I really liked the former members!) The new accordionist just dazzles. This CD has something to offer for lovers of all musical flavors.

Yuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmy!.......2000-09-23
Oh My god there's some monsters in here. My reaction to Quests "accelerator" was "God I hope I'm not off my face if I hear THAT in a club." If only it came out on vinyl. Right up there in an odd sort of way with dave seaman, except dave's a demon mixer, and I want to have his babies.
hohohoho, well maybe I am off my face

Pure Quality House Music.......2000-08-23
I have now recently got Factor 3 which is absolutly outstanding. The DJ's who put this together are outstanding. I would definatly recommend this to any hardcore Klubber anywhere in the world. All the tracks on the double album are fairly new execpt 2 or 3. I played the CD in my car one night full blast windows down and Oh boy it certainly turned heads. I had several people ask me what Album I was playing so I informed them. If I go to a party I always take Factor 3 and move the furniture out of the way. Both CD's are excellent. Well mixed and have some quality tunes on them. Many Thanks
slinky goodness.......2000-08-13
how can any cd with a remix of BT's dreaming go wrong, really?
mate of mine brought the cds over to me, with the comment that he'd thought they were kinda boring, but that maybe i'd like them.
the remix of "dreaming" (evolution mix) is great. harder, faster and much more energetic than the original, it's impossible not to get up, turn it up to max volume, and dance to it.
the first cd kicks it off with another mix (pvd mix) of 'tell me why (the riddle)' by paul van dyk (featuring st etienne) ... and really, just gets better from there. it _is_ a mix cd, and occasionally the teasing bridging between tracks can be frustrating, but always in a good way.
the two cds are technically better (the mixing between tracks is smoother, and the tracks match each other more, in my opinion) than tech-nique, but definitely and identifiably slinky.
two cds worth of slinky goodness, what more could you ask for?
the best slinky album yet............2000-07-06
ok i got the other 2 slinky albums.........i thought "slinky tech-nique" was great but when i heard this album, i was amazed with the selection......if you liked the other slinky albums i recommend this album to to you.

Customer Reviews:
Amazing Collection, Amazing Ensemble!.......2006-03-30
This set is an absolute gem, and for two reasons: First, because it is so rare and hard to come across; Second, because the quality of the music is at such a high level. This 5 CD SET ought to be part of every collection of fine music. Christopher Hogwood is one of the finest conductors of Baroque music that I've ever heard. The included rendition of Corelli's "Christmas Concerto" is the best recording I'v heard. As well, this set includes the complete "Four Seasons," which, while not exceptional, are quite satisfactory. This is a must own set for high quality recording collectors.
highly recommended.......2004-07-18
highly recommended by antonio-vivaldi dot org along with Pinnock's version.
I enjoyed these CDs & would highly recommend their purchase........1998-11-19
A must have for anyone who enjoys Baroque Music!
This would also be a great buy for those who are interested in Classical Music but are wondering where to begin.
