Morning 40 Federation is a ragtag team of New Orleans musicians that creates a rock `n' roll sound unlike any other. It is deeply rooted in the New Orleans style, yet the groove and soul conjure up Detroit circa 1975 while the rock feels like something out of New York in the early part of this century. Their live shows are the stuff of legend, and they cannot walk down the streets of the still-surviving New Orleans without Beatles-esque fan acknowledgement. This new album was the last to be recorded in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina. Like the band, it is a survivor that carries with it deeper qualities than just fun music to party to ... although that is there as well (it would not be Morning 40 without it). Ticonderoga is more primal than any of their previous releases, and shakes all genres up with a refreshing punk attitude.

New Orleans emanates from the first notes of Ticonderoga. All the booze, sleaze, debauchery - jeez it's no wonder that God sent Katrina as a wakeup call to our modern day Sodom. It's like a street party where you'd better have a chain connected to your wallet, otherwise by the end of the night it'll be gone, and the contents in the hands of some liquor store purveyor, or the drug dealer down the block. With a sound truly their own (if I had to make a comparison to any band I'd say Ween), Morning 40 Federation employ a wide variety of instruments, to come up with an honestly raw sound. Naturally you've got your drums, guitars, etc. but that's all augmented with an occasional brass section, and Hammond organ to pinpoint a few. Not for the effete, but certainly for the jaded, crack open a 40.

I haven't been this excited about a new young band in years. And while the album is multi-faceted and brilliant, you must see these guys in person to fully appreciate them. With 2 very charismatic lead men, this band is going places.
What kind of music is it, you ask? They are without genuine peers but throw all of these acts into a blender and you've got some idea: Linkin Park, Madness, Dr John, Sex Pistols, Eminem, & Olympia Brass Band.

quiet, subtle brilliance. its mathy in its rhythms, but soft still...music gentle and pretty, but truly deep beneath the surface. if you like touching indie rock but find it simplistic and boring, this album is perfect.
