Product Description
Exotic moments and disorientation are not always where you expect them to be ! Let's take the example of DISCUS, an Indonesian Progressive line-up. The simple fact of mentioning this far away place would be the ultimate argument to push crowds to consume it without boundaries. And yet, "…Tot Licht !" (2004) deserves so much more than that ! This second album proves once more than talent and originality can transcend things much further than just appearances. We find then there six tracks with complex yet accessible structures, helped by obviously virtuosi musicians. This music is not at all subservient to never-ending technique demonstrations, but reflects more a sense of composition and stylistic associations that can sometimes seem even extraordinary. The track goes in no time from the brightest jazz to the roughest heavy-metal. Thanks to DISCUS you'll know how the Canterbury school started an unnatural affair with thrash and traditional Indonesian instruments! ! Let's also mention contemporary musics, vocal polyphonies that blend feminine and masculine vocals, strong classical inspirations, a touch of dissonance, an inkling of fusion, the shadow of Frank ZAPPA… It's not worth looking at your archives, you've never heard this before !
