5 out of 5 stars Solid Buy!.......2007-04-04

I am not a music savante, I admit, and I judge my music differently from a lot of people. That caveate in place, let's proceed.
Trapt is, frankly, my favorite band. Their first song I heard was Lost Realist (from Someone In Control), and it is now my favorite song. From there, I bought both albums and thuroughly enjoy them (on my iTunes, about half of my 25 most played songs are by Trapt).
Trapt is not a band with an 'original sound', per se, but rather their strength lies in taking from multiple influences and managing to beautifully mix them together. Many bands borrow from multiple places, Trapt just does it well.
Other strong edges Trapt has are excellent lyrics, Chris Brown's powerful vocals, a wide range of sounds, and a rather positive message.
Rather than just getting up and whining about being alone, adicted to drugs, hating parents, etc, the lyrics reflect a deeper level of thought than many other bands. Yes, the songs deal with relationships, such as those with a boyfriend/girlfriend, as well as parents, but rather than just sitting there and saying "My life sucks" or "I'm going to do anything and everything oposite of what you want", they go deeper and are more so contemplative. Rather than telling us to get in our parents faces and do anything and everything to rebel, they advise us to just take a stand and make our own lives. Instead of cutting our wrists when a girl leaves us, look deeper on your soul and figure out who you are, and then move on. When things are spinning out of control, are you will to give anything and everything to start all over again?
Trapt's songs branch across a wonderful spectrum of styles. Let me break it down:
Headstrong-The big hit single (though it's only average on my personal scale), is hard-hitting and strong. Live your life rather than be controlled, because someone else's life may not be the perfect one for you. But hold your own. It's loud, fast, and powerful.
Made of Glass-Following up Headstrong, we have this much more down to earth song. It's got a bit of bounce, with a strong (though not overpowering) chorus. It's a good song for just about any time of day.
Hollowman- Just as you feel your blood cooling from Made of Glass's soothing tones, Hollowman fires you up again, with vocals which are a bit sharper than Headstrong. Still, a strong song with a chorus which people seem to really love.
These Walls-A personal favorite, this song gets two guitars in addition to the bass, and Monte gets to show his drums a little mercy by lightening up a bit. It's strong, but not agressive, and will help to calm you down from Hollowman.
Still Frame-Of course, just like last time they got to pumped and then calmed, they hit you again with Still Frame. A bit more rap-esque than many of their other songs (though there's a lot of distance between rap and what goes on here, the words don't come out at a pace which you don't often see in straight rock).I don't care for the repeated use of the "F" word (I have it editted, personally), but the song is still solid.
Echo-Very melodic, Echo is a song the girls like because it's romantic, and guys like it because it isn't really mushy and has some good sound.
When All Is Said And Done-Personally, I don't listen to this song. However, it is strong with good lyrics and a nice beat.
The Game-One song which I love more so for the sound than the lyrics. Chris Brown really shows you what his vocals can do when he is constantly going from a creeping, bass melody to a fast, powerful chorus. Of course, the strength of this song is the amazing bass, which completely overpowers the guitar and stands out from the drums, it just sounds amazing.
Enigma-A bit more eerie than their other songs, Enigma is about struggling to overcome loneliness, with the a creeping narrative which explodes into a powerful chorus, and Chris Brown pushes his voice to the limits!
Stories-Ever girls favorite song, Stories comes at you out of nowhere. Just when you feel pumped from the previous songs, Stories is a wonderful accoustic song where the other band members get to hold back and the beauty of the accoustic gets to flow. If you like the sound of the accoustic guitar, this is a great song. If you just want fast, hard rock, you probably wont care for it.
New Beginning-My second favorite Trapt song, New Beginning sounds similar to Headstrong, but is much more subdued and reflective, with a fraction of the attitude. I love the message of the song, and the guitar riffs are wonderfully soothing and a great way to end this cd. I admit, the hidden track which is tacked onto the song does hurt it a bit, but the song itself is still great. The song itself is about four minutes or so, with another four to five minutes of random bass and drum sounds and other various sounds in the background.
Overall, it's true that Trapt isn't revolutionary or anything. Instead, they took what they liked, mixed them together, and they did a good job. If you judge just based upon how original or experimental a band is, then this cd wont blow you away. If you want some great tunes with deep lyrics and that'll inspire you, then go for this cd!

5 out of 5 stars a classic.......2006-12-03

Before "Someone In Control", which was mediocre at best, Trapt put out a masterpiece. It's hard to believe that it's been 4 years since this cd came out, because I can still listen to it today with as much attention as I did back in '02. Songs like Made Of Glass and Stories are timeless, no two ways around it, and the rest are so far above average that it's not even funny. I don't care what you're into, punk rock or nu-metal, alternative or arena, even jazz, you'll find something here to enjoy. If you don't already own Trapt's debut of the same name, get it ASAP. You can't even argue this one, s/t is a classic.

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2006-11-12

Hey guys, just an advice: simply buy this cd, you won't regret it!!!
Bye!!

5 out of 5 stars Immaturity.......2006-10-04

Trapt is a great band. They produce fabulous music. I just don't get why Trapt put the F word in all their lyrics. It's unnecessary. Just be mature and keep on making great music! Curse words will not add to popularity unless rebels are fans, lol. I love "Still Frame", but I don't like the needless cursing; however, it's funny.

2 out of 5 stars What are you thinking, it's so misleading.......2006-09-11

Trapt embodies everything that's wrong with mainstream rock. Having said that, I find it very easy to hate these guys. Their sound, aside from maybe two songs, is just one big retread and their lyrics are ponderous. Plus the pretty boy image just isn't working. Rock is about pure and honest emotion, these guys are giving rock a bad name plain and simple.

When Headstrong first hit the airwaves I knew it was terribly corny and that I should hate it but I couldn't; it was far too catchy. I honestly still do like the song mildly but it's worn out it's welcome. Hollowman is one of the two standout tracks included in their self titled debut. The vocal work is nice and there are a few nice guitar riffs, not to mention the great melodic verses. Enigma is the other good track included. Melody rules throughout with an almost brooding sensibility. When the chorus comes pounding in you automatically feel like you've heard it before. A warm welcome you could say. Either way, this is a great song.

If you MUST have this CD get it as cheap as possible, never mind if it's used or not. In the end this is nothing but a trend CD. Sure the majority of these songs are catchy and easily listenable but there's no experimentation in the tracks, they stick to a predetermined path. Trapt could be something great if they'd actually experiment with their instruments. A few guitar solos never hurt anyone. Discernable bass is always a good thing, just look at Korn. Getting agressive with your drumming isn't hard either. I don't think that's too much to ask.

My favorite songs are Headstrong, Hollowman, and Enigma. Basically what it all boils down to is the lack of originality. Yes Trapt came out at a time where it was easy to get them mixed up with any other radio band but still, Breaking Benjamin came out fighting and have gained a huge following. Of course it didn't help their case that it took them so horribly long to come out with a followup. Trapt is a joke and it's no wonder that you don't hear from them anymore. Oh, and my rating, that's being generous.

The pop song-score is often accused of being little more than ancillary merchandising for many a film and the supporting evidence is often hard to deny. But this well-chosen collection of modern rock and metal for director Jonathan Hensleigh's adaptation of the vengeance-obsessed Marvel Comics anti-hero is a gratifying exception; apt sonic seasoning for the film's bleak, contemporary edge. The thrash of Hatebreed, Chevelle, and the new Drowning Pool lineup and tracks by more established acts like Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback, and Queens of the Stone Age (who turn in a smart, chunky cover of Romeo Void's Rock-of-the-80's staple, "Never Say Never") alone would make it a welcome rock-metal sampler. But its 19 tracks also encompass an intriguing range of lesser known bands and one-off collaborations (Seether and Amy Lee, Jerry Cantrell and Damageplan, Ben Moody/Jason Miller/Jason "Gong" Jones); all bristling with a dark, moody energy that perfectly echos the film's dour, relentlessly violent tone. -- Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars An Instant Classic Compilation.......2006-02-19

Anyone questioning whether or not to add this album to their collection need only look at the back of the case. With a role call that boasts an enormous amount of talent, this album delivers hard hitting rock and insightful lyrics that give it depth. It is rare to find an album that not only has great music for a listener who wants some music and also lyrics for those who enjoy looking a little deeper into their music. From Hatebreed to Smile Empty Soul, this CD covers all ranges of emotion and never disappoints!

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Punisher Sound.......2005-12-07

The songs on this album are just the type of music you think of when you think "The Punisher". Even if you haven't seen the movie, but love the sound of rock, this is one of the best albums you can get that comes with a nice variety of artists. If you are a fan of The Punisher movie and or comics, this is definitely a can't miss soundtrack. As is the Original Score to the film...

5 out of 5 stars Powerful music!.......2005-09-20

I was actually more attracted to The Punisher by the music coming from the soundtrack than the actual movie. In fact, I was a little disappointed that the music wasn't more prominently featured in the movie.

The bands and the songs selected for the soundtrack are all so energizing and powerful. I could hardly believe that the collection was so good - not a weak song in the bunch. Give it a listen, and you'll be smiling and rockin' too!

3 out of 5 stars measuring up (now 4 stars instead of 3...).......2005-08-26

Technically, this isn't my second review of the product; it's just me taking my original review and completely rewriting it. Quite frankly, as time went on and I heard other Marvel-based movie soundtracks, I started to realize just how good The Punisher's soundtrack is. With the ultimate combination of rock and... more rock, Punisher contends for best soundtrack I've ever heard. A few of the standout tracks for me (not in order of how much I like them, but in how they appear [for the most part] on the CD) are:

Drowning Pool- Step Up: Now, if you've read my review of Desensitized, by Drowning Pool (the album this song came off of), you would have heard me mention that I love this song, but it just isn't really Drowning Pool due to the lack of Dave Williams in the song. I stand by that thought, although I do still really like this song.

Nickelback- Slow Motion: I'm pretty well impressed with this particular song, but not as much as I am with some of the other songs on this soundtrack. It's got its merits, though, mainly cause it's Nickelback...

Seether (feat. Amy Lee)- Broken: Damned if I can't label this the best damn song on here. With Seether and frontman Shaun Morgan's ex-girlfriend Amy Lee (of Evanescence fame) as the backing vocalist, this song is both hard-hitting and haunting at the same time. If you've heard this particular song, you know what I mean.

Smile Empty Soul- Finding Myself: I also call this one "Smile Empty Soul Goes Acoustic"- and amazingly enough, alternative rock band Smile Empty Soul's first all-acoustic song works like a charm and is one of my favorites.

Trapt- Lost in a Portrait: In my opinion, Lost in a Portrait isn't as good as some of Trapt's other songs, but it's still a good one and a good pick for the soundtrack; I believe this one was recorded specifically for the soundtrack, as I couldn't find this one on either Trapt or Someone in Control...

Seether- Sold Me: Seether's second contribution to the compilation; like Broken, this one comes from Seether's (semi)second CD, Disclaimer II, a reworking of their debut cut Disclaimer. This one is much more hard-edged than Broken, but not necessarily better... it is good though.

Edgewater- Eyes Wired Shut: Tied with Broken for the best song on here. I love how Edgewater so succintly draws you in with the first hook of the chorus- "Eyes wired shut, running through my brain..." Awesome song, guys.

Hatebreed- Bound to Violence: A bit more heavy metal-ish than I'm used to, but I got used to this and actually started to like it. Hatebreed (and more particularly, this song) is what got me listening to bands like Lamb of God and Chimaira, so thanks.

Mark Collie- In Time: By far the most haunting songs on the soundtrack and one of my favorites. Go Mark!!!

Most people would expect me to end this with some kind of witty saying to aid you in making your decision to further research this product- but I'm just too damn tired. So here it goes: The Punisher is frankly one of the best movie soundtracks out there, so go check it out- you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Mass Attraction.......2005-07-07

I too, was pleasantly surprised by the lesser-known alterna-hard-rock acts on this disc (Trapt, Finger Eleven, Submersed). Along with Span's 2004 2CD masterpiece "Mass Distraction," this is one of the best guitar-driven experiences of the last year-AND that's saying something for a soundtrack to a movie!

Album Description

The hard-rockin' Northern California band's much-anticipated follow-up, Someone In Control, co-produced by Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Pearl Jam, Good Charlotte) and led by the track "Stand Up," expands on the strong sense of melody, soul-searching lyrics and archetypal hooks that separate Trapt from its Modern Rock peers. Fans are standing up for Trapt.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Just an EXCELLENT Album!.......2007-06-19

I'm ashamed of myself for taking nearly 2 years to pick up Someone in Control. Trapt's sophomore offering does anything but slump. Just a jam-packed disc of great music.

I always like to count how many songs I'm into right after buying a CD, as to let myself know whether I just wasted my money. SiC, which features 11 tracks, features EIGHT that I'm already hooked on, and I haven't even broken the CD in all the way! It's THAT good. If you loved their eponymous album, add this one to your collection.

3 out of 5 stars No Me Gusta!.......2007-06-15

I liked their debut far better than this CD. This CD will be featured soon in a used store near you. Nothing really grabs you like their last CD. It's nothing terrible, I just wouldn't find myself thinking, "Gosh, I'd love to listen to Someone in Control right now." I haven't touched it for months, almost forgot I had it. Oh well, maybe next time. Anyone want a cheap used CD? It's yours for about $2.99 plus shipping. Just kidding, I'm probably not supposed to advertise on a review, ha ha.

3 out of 5 stars Barely half as good as their debut........2007-04-13

I give it 2.5 stars. There just wasn't anything on here to keep me coming back. Maybe once every couple years I'll say, "I feel like listening to Trapt" and I'll give it one spin, but there is so much more out there that is better. I really liked the debut, but talk about sophomore slump here. They better get their acts together.

5 out of 5 stars I keep coming back to this........2007-02-22

I really loved the well-known singles from their first album. I think those singles are superior to the songs on this album. However, with all of the music in my library, I keep coming back to this one. It's been a staple in my car for a year and frequently finds its way back onto my MP3 player. Pretty well all of the songs have grown on me and I just have to highly recommend it, even if it's not quite up to the level of what their first stuff was.

5 out of 5 stars Trapt's 'Coming Of Age' Third Release.......2006-11-15

This is the follow up to the 2002 release. This album is exceptional and the best the North Californian young band has come up with so-far. With only one listen of 'Someone In Control' I was hooked. Maybe initially it was the CD artwork that pictured a working class man who seemed to have it all, on his bed with his head in his hands. For me this picture could have depicted me. How many times have we felt not in control of our lives, of our family, of our work? This album was made for the working man and woman and I will explain why.

It is quite unique to find an album with the first 3 songs pretty much the best in the album. 'Disconnected' deals with how each of us can feel apart, out of touch with our loved one's, our friends and colleagues. The lyrics are sung gracefully and full of meaning with the abtuse deep rock riffs in the background. 'Waiting' and 'Victim' are songs for the working man/woman. The lyrics depict a person who falls victim to a unfeeling/uncaring working society.

Another great song is 'Lost Realist' that is a song based on our morals and how they stand up to today's reality. Are we going to stand by our morals or succumb to the flavour of the month? This song asks the listener to think and reflect on what we term 'reality'.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable album with a great message of hope and reflection within its lyrics and Trapt have earned my respect in their approach. Through the on the road experience they are trying to impart what they have shared and learned to their fans. There are no mindless lyrics here. This album is great. Nothing is skin deep.

This CD is for any rock fan and especially for die hard Trapt fans.

I bought this CD a while ago. The most the songs are pretty good, especially Stories, Echo, and Headstrong. The enhanced material isn't all that good in my opinion. Its live stuff and Chris Brown doesn't really sing that well live be totally honest. Overall, good CD, good band. Heard better, though.

If not for the gratuitous swearing, I would have rated this a 5. I bought the CLEAN version and enjoy it without having to be concerned about who else is listening in.

Grounded by Shriekback rhythm section Dave Allen on bass and Martyn Barker on drums, this quintet made a hell of a noise as the 1980s drew to a close. Walter Wray supplied rock star vocals. Alternative rock, no matter how far out there it is, is still based on and grounded in rock and roll. Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars OMG put out a new CD!.......2004-09-08

Alright the first cd was amazing, and the song on this cd is also pretty good, but we real trapt fans don't want a f****** t-shirt, we want an entire new cd of music. this is a complete waste of time for one trapt song, buy it on itunes or wutevr u have, but don't buy this cd/t-shirt combo, its a waste of money.
