Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An album that sparks..........2005-12-04

This album is rich with moving melodies combined with the sweet voice of Bridget Mullen (her real name). Most songs consist of as little as an acoustic guitar and her pure vocals, sometimes accompanied by drums or sparse and subtle electronic tones. On Nothing I Can Say she gets a little too experimental though, using distorted noises in the background, ruining a song that probably would've been great if she had left it more plain and simple.

In general the atmosphere of the songs are anything but uplifting. She especially sounds dark on Cry For Her, but even this mood makes way for upbeat songs like Spring and Day In Day Out or even happy songs like Midnight Rendezvous and The Demons.

All tunes have great lyrics, personal, pensive and intimate, most likely because they're about the more depressing side of life like break-ups, losing close friends or the rut of life. Some songs have very little words to it, leaving you with the lush melodies, making the lyrics effective all the more.

Standout tracks are the beautiful Downtown Cafe (musically as well as lyrically), Let It Show, and the slightly rocky Miscommunication.

Though the album runs about 40 minutes, it will most likely leave you wanting to hear more of Emily Sparks. Make sure to look for two other songs of hers, Down In Virginia and her best song in my opinion, Find Your Own Fire, a dark gem of a song. They were both released on the Amos House Collection compilations.
