2 out of 5 stars 2 good tracks.......2003-03-24

This CD is a combination of David LaFlamme's two solo albums: White Bird and Inside Out. To be honest, I have only heard White Bird, so I can't vouch for the last half of this CD. Here are my opinions on the songs from White Bird:

White Bird-a short, uninspired version of It's A Beautiful Day's greatest hit. It is only 4 minutes long and not that interesting. It is a pointless remake. It was only included so stupid fans like me would buy the album.

Hot Summer Day-another It's A Beautiful Day classic. This is a seven minute version, with a really interesting, spacy instrumental in the middle. It reminds of Pink Floyd's Echos. The singing isn't on par with the original version, but the music is more interesting.

Swept Away is a jazz fusion instrumental similar to what Jean Luc Ponty or Michael Urbaniak would do. It is very nice, but not up there with the best of Ponty.

Easy Woman is a lounge act song. It sounds like something Tom Jones would do or like the theme song to the Love Boat.

This Man is kind of disco a number.

Baby Be Wise is like a combination of Easy Woman and This Man.

Spirit of America sounds like something Kansas would do, with a little Bruce Springsteen and John Wayne thrown in.

This is really not an album worth getting, but if you do, you will get a nice, spacy Hot Summer Day.

Hal Wagnet, from the first It's A Beautiful Day album, plays bass on some of the tracks.

The back up singer is called Dominque DelaCroix. Her real name was Linda. She ended up marrying David LaFlamme, and became the second Linda LaFlamme. She is not to be confused with the first Linda LaFlamme. The first Linda was responsible for writing much of the great music on the first It's a Beautiful Day album. She also sang and played keyboards. She left the group, and David, after the first album.

After the Linda split from David, David was not as successful at writing songs. After the first album, all the best It's A Beautiful Day songs were written by Fred Webb, who replace Linda on keyboards. Patty Santos replaced Linda on vocals, and It's A Beautiful Day recorded four more albums. On the last album, Today, David had left the group. Fred Webb and Patty Santos both died later.

It's A Beautiful Day has constantly been fueding with their original manager over the rights to the group's name and music. For this reason, the It's A Beautiful Day albums were taken off the market and have become very rare.

David and the second Linda stayed together and have been performing since the late seventies. Currently they are performing under the name David and Linda LaFlamme, IABD, formerly known as It's A Beautiful Day. Val Fuentes, the original drummer from It's A Beautiful Day is also in IABD.

5 out of 5 stars excellent cd.......2002-09-04

A must for It's A Beautiful Day Fans. I've been listening to IABD since they came out with White Bird and had no idea he was flying solo until I saw this cd. It's refreshing to have something different in my collection. Excellent version of White Bird on this one as well as alot of great new material. The master violinist still hasn't lost his touch . For serious fans, there are a couple more out . One is called Creed Of Love and the other is called Workin' the Goldmine. Both Live concerts with Linda. Both excellent. I was thrilled to receive both cd's autographed from David personally and to know he's still around.

3 out of 5 stars An acquired taste.......2001-03-05

I bought this CD specifically to get my hands on this version of "White Bird." I always thought it was a better version than the original one from It's A Beautiful Day (though some may call me blasphemous). This CD is most definitely a product of its time. It's late 70's progressive-fusion-jazz. At least that's the best way to describe it. There are occasional jam sessions such as on "Hot Summer Day." It is definitely not distracting. Fans are already aware of LaFlamme's talents as a violinist. The second half of the CD appears as if it was more of an attempt at commercializing his music. I remember hearing radio stations play "Where Flamingos Fly" even though it sounds like Brian Eno crooning...kind of monotone and eerie. "Forever and a Day" is enjoyable enough. Mostly I use this CD for background music at work. It's excellent for that purpose.

1 out of 5 stars Utterly disappointing.......2001-02-21

I thought I'd take a chance on this disk, since I love White Bird on the old "It's a Beautiful Day" album. Sorry I did. This ENTIRE CD is garbage. It's hard to know where to start. No talent song-writing, and horrible back up vocals come to mind. Even this version of my beloved White Bird is flat (and too short). Don't waste your money.

5 out of 5 stars LaFlame's Camel.......2000-10-26

The title of the album you are looking for is Big Bad Beautiful Day. If you email me at criddle@cbnn.net I can give you a contact for purchasing it. I don't have the page bookmarked from this terminal. LaFlame is one of the finest rock violinists of the 20th century and so far, of the 21st as well. He hasn't stopped making music. As consumers, we need to support his work.
