Great Sound.......2007-06-02
'Wide-Eyed And Mystified' is an album with a great sound and even better lyrics.
I had only heard two songs prior to buying the album. I really liked both of them, but considered just getting those two on ITunes and skipping the rest. I'm very glad that I decided to get the album.
The two songs that I had heard before, 'The More' and 'A Better Way', are excellent, but so are several others on this CD. I could name a couple of other great songs here, but I would be doing the reader a disservice. All of these should be heard.
This is an album that has grown on me the more that I've listened to it. Several of the songs are very catchy and you might just find yourself replaying these in your head. Highly recommended.
Downhere is up there with the best .......2007-04-13
Wide eyed and mystified was one of Christianity Today's top 10 albums of 2006, I heard some samples and decided to take a risk and buy the album. This album is excellent. The composers are also share tasks as the lead singers. You would swear Freddie Mercury was still alive after hearing Marc Martel's vocal performance on "More". Jason Germain's vocals have a deep rich quality both vocalist are excellent. Lyrically they are good and the issues they address are incredible. Not only Christians should get this album, but everyone. This album left me satifised and proud of this purchase.
Inspired music - Incredible voices!.......2007-03-10
This music is soul-stirring. "A Better Way" is one of the best songs I've ever heard.
Humble rockstars release their best yet.......2007-02-23
How is it that so few people have heard of these guys? I started listening to their first album a few years ago, and I could immediately tell that they're extraordinarily gifted musicians - I've been hooked ever since. "So Much for Substitutes" was probably more impressive musically than the first album, but it was a bit dark and thus an acquired taste. "Wide-Eyed and Mystified" is a truly brilliant addition to the previous two albums, with a wide variety of musical styles, and a continuing trend of lyrics with substance. Unlike most fluffy Christian rock I'm hearing these days, it's evident that the guys of Downhere understand the rich depths of theology and are producing more than just catchy riffs and sugar highs for the seeking masses. Listening to any of their albums and especially this one, I'm refreshed that I'm not the only one weary of the times we live in. "I Will Follow...", "The Real Jesus," and "I Miss You Here" resonate with me on that note. "A Better Way," "Little is Much," and "Unbelievable" keep reminding me of my identity in Christ, and I relate so well to the anointed passion that went into those songs. Beyond the depth and theology, this is definitely an album that I'd listen to just for musicianship. If you've never heard this group's vocal talent, you'll be amazed, even if you're not really a musician. I could go on and on about the eclectic variety of influences I hear, from Keith Green, a very distinct Queen tribute, and possibly even Kevin Max. (Where did that vibrato technique come from?) The reality is that no amount of words could do this album justice, and I think it's well worth buying.
Awesome album from a virtually unknown band!.......2006-12-26
I had the chance to see these Canadian guys twice, most recently with Barlow Girl and Matthew West. I had always thought that Martel's voice was hauntingly similar to Freddie Mercury's, but when Downhere opened their set with WE WILL ROCK YOU, I got cold chills. By all means buy this awesome album as well as see them live if you get the chance. They are well worth every penny.

The Christian Walk's Dark Side..........2006-11-03
This is by far the darkest Christian album I have ever heard. It is also one of the ablums with the deepest thoughts. I bought this album when it first came out and have listened to it very much ever since. From the moment I heard Nichole's first song, "To Know You," I knew I had to get her album.
Much of this album focuses on the mystery of God, talks about our striving to do right in the midst of humanness, and asks the tough questions such as "Why me? Why this storm?"
I can't say anything more without reviewing the songs themselves...
"To Know You" opens the album and sets the theme. It talks about our striving and searching to know and understand God in the midst of doubt. We've all been there, whether we admit it or not. Nichole writes with stark honesty and vulnerability--something more Christians should possess.
The album continues into the title track, where Nichole raises two crucial questions: "Have we forgotton that even the pagan, unsaved, 'sinners' and supposedly ludirous people are created in the image of God and He died for them, too and loves them... just as much as He loves us?" and the second one, a more hard-hitting one: "What would we have done had we been there when Jesus walked the earth and proclaimed to be the Son of God? Would we have believed Him? Or would we have laughed at and scorned Him like so many did?" These are questions we don't want to face or have to answer. But they need to be asked.
"Who You Are" is almost a continuation of "To Know You" that focuses a little more on the mystery of God. Instead of human doubt, the song focuses on human simplification of the awesome power of our Creator. We could never fully explain the omnipotence of God, nor could our human minds conceive all that He is, and yet we try to know everything about Him when there is "so much more You."
"Anyway" switches things up a little bit. Using a metaphor of dusty old paintings being restored, Nichole describes how God loved us even the midst of our sins and cleansed us, used us, and displayed us for His glory.
"I Wish the Same for You" gives our minds a rest for a few minutes and concentrates on a more surface-level topic. It's more up-beat and "happy sounding" than the previous tracks. The song unfolds like a letter to an unbeliever. It hopes that each and everyone could come to know the saving love of Christ and stop searching and fearing the unknown. I like this one a little less than the rest, but it's still very good.
"Is it Any Wonder" goes a level deeper. The song describes pop society's pressures placed on males (money, success) and females (outside beauty and form). No one is going to find what they're looking for in these things, and giving into these expectations can actually destroy a person's life. The "love that can't be glamourized" and "hope that won't be downsized" are the only things that can fill an empty soul. This song has a very unique and even strange melody, piano line, and beat to it, almost rock-sounding, but it's very catchy.
"Burnin'" talks about the refining power God uses during our trials. Nichole confesses to attempting to avoid the "fires" of this life and play it safe. These trials can and will hurt us. They will be hard. But this is where we find God. (side note: this was probably my least favorite song on this CD. I thought it was slow and kind of boring. But with each listen, I came to not only enjoy the theology of it, but also its slow 'jazz club' feel. Now it is one of my favorite songs on the CD and one I often skip to)
"Gone Are the Days" is more along the lines of "I Wish the Same." It talks about ceasing to run and fight, and, instead, surrendering to God's love and power. Like "I Wish," this one's a little less enjoyable than the rest but it's still catchy, with a lighter beat, and challenges listeners to stop resisting and just give in. Also, this song showcases Nichole's very wide vocal range with incredibly low notes, but a couple relatively high ones as well.
One of the songs I have been able to identify with the most on this record is "To Say Thanks." Nichole uses more of her respectable honesty and vulnerability and asks the "why's." This song talks about the storms of life, and how, even though we know of God's sovereignty, it gets so hard to appreciate it because we DON'T understand why we're going through them. It not only expresses a lack of understanding, but also frustration and even anger: "I'm shaking a fist in the dark/and I'm asking why, why, why, why." Also, the song expresses the inability to decipher which trials are from God and which temptations are from Satan: "And I cannot pretend/to know the difference/between the storms you send/and those I find" I've played and sung this song when I've been going through a hard time, because I am feeling everything that is expressed in this song. Nichole is so honest in this song about human misunderstanding, frailty and faults, which is so admirable from a Christian artist.
The close-er, "River God," is a beautiful piano ballad. Along the same topical lines as "Burnin'" this song compares us to stones in a cold mountain river and how God uses tests and trials to mold us, removing our "edges" of character defects and making us "smoother" and more spiritually mature. Excellent way to close the album.
Nichole's debut is by far the BEST debut album I've ever heard. It's amazing that this was her first album. It is, by far, one of her best and one of the top Christian albums ever. Nichole's songwriting and analogies are pitch-perfect. She neglects the sugar-coated, "everything's perfect as a Christian" topic that all too often dominates Christian music today, and dives deeper.
'Wide Eyed' is an excellent record that examines the mystery and the darker side of a Christian's life. New Christians need to hear this album to know that the Christian life is not going to be a cakewalk.
Kudos, Nichole!
Brilliant! Life Changing!.......2006-05-01
One reviewer wrote that "Wide Eyed" is not just for Christians. They were correct! While I consider myself to be a Christian, I have not been to church in years. YEARS!!!!! This CD is not preachy. Instead, Nichole takes you along for her wide-eyed ride through (at times) painful introspection in search of an understanding of good and God.
I can't explain Nichole Nordeman's talent or how she is SO capable of creatively conveying life-changing lessons of peace, hope and profound understanding...but she can and she does! Boy, does the world need to hear this now!
"Wide Eyed" really is a masterpiece! BUY IT...BUY IT...BUY IT!!!!
Fabulous!.......2005-04-24
This disc can be played the whole way through-and you won't be craving for the skip button.
Nichole Nordeman is so mature. So talented. So beautiful. Her debut 'Wide Eyed' was released a while after winning a songwriting contest. She was a waitress in LA. and Nichole was hesitant about entering becuase the $200 fee was steep for a waitress. Thankfully, Nichole entered and won with her powerful song "Why" (Featured on This Mystery).
Wide Eyed is full of reflections, challenges and honesty. The opening track talks abpout doubts, it was the first Nichole Nordeman song I heard, but it is a little deep to start off the album. "Wide Eyed" follows, quite deep as well, but there's nothing wrong with that. It is challenging and inspiring and something this generation needs to hear- everyone is created in God's image and He loves them very much-and all the same.
"Who You are" is fabulous. Nichole belts outin the chorus pasionatly-the chorus is the best! "Anyway" is easily a favourite. It is beautful and amazing. Great lyrics, too.
" I wish the same for you" and "Gone are the days" are both good songs, but not as good as the others. they are definitly listenable, but not so inspiring. A bit more upbeat.
"Is It any wonder" is a jazz-inspired. I really like it. At first I thought the piano was wierd-but it's not. Really good! Great! "Burnin" is a fabulous song. It kees getting stuck my head. I really like it! I'd like to hear Nichole's commentry on it though, and figure out a bit behind.
"To say thanks" talk about saying thanks for the bad situations becuase thye can mold you. Nichole goes kind of high in this song, it's fine though. Very challenging. Just what people need to hear.
The album closes in "River God" a wonderful song. A fabulous song, a little like "Every Season" but without the strings and not so high-quality. Fabulous! this album is better than This Mystery.
God, not man made.......2004-02-18
This album is a joy to listen to. One song in particular I sing loudly when alone in my car. The songs written by Nicole Nordman are connected by a theme. This theme comes from the first song of the album titled :To Know You. The song talks of an individual "awake with questions"; Asking oneself about how does one "separate fact from fiction" . She compares the struggle with how the scholar and religious authority ( Nicodemus) could not understand How a grown man could be born again? And how Thomas did not believe without seeing the nails in Jesus' hands. She talks about common ground she has with these men. Which I understand is the struggle of any finite man understanding an infinite God.
Wide Eye begs the question: What type relationship one has with God is dependent on how one relates with others who walk on this earth. The clear message is all humans are created in the image of God, no matter how off base their theology. How do you who believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ are to relate to others who hold another theology { or truth}. In the song there is given a couple examples of people talking of weird theology that leave the listener "confused and disillusion". Listening I ask myself is she talking about the person or faith? How am I to respond to{these}people who seem to be disconnected with reality {nuts}. Jesus did talk about how one treated the least so you have Him.
Who You Are is the song I enjoy singing along with most on the album and is the reason I purchased the album when the CD first came out. The song uses the voice of Nicole to great effect. She sings sweetly how people taught her to comprehend God in simple/easier ways so the relationship would be less daunting . To make coming to him easier and simpler. She talks as if one could put God " in my pocket". Then in a loud outburst manner she responds "I know I cannot explain You". She continues to talk how Jesus walks with us: "so near yet so far". How does anyone understand the personal relationship of a finite being with an infinite being. That is who I am and that God is so much more. My finite ability to comprehend God does not give me an excuse to reinvent God, so I do not need to revere Him as much. If I do, I am honoring the Onewho lowered himself so I could have a relationship with Him.
Who You Are is the reason I chose to review this album at this time. In the book titled: Christ Among Other gods by Erwin Lutzer is a quote by Nietzche.
"You have caged [God], tame him, domesticated him, and the priests have plenty lent their aid. the roaring bull has became a listless Ox."
From the song: " Every teacher, every preacher-with the very best intent- Found new ways to hide the mystery-Replaced with common sense".
Does [your] perspective of God `make' God less awesome. Scripture should teach the Christian who God is. God's word should pierce your heart. Only by knowing God's power, might, and righteousness can one begin to comprehend the grace of God. Only through some comprehension of God's hatred for sin may one understand the humiliation of Christ dying on the Cross for my disobedience. This is the only way to begin comprehending having a relationship with God. The privilege of knowing Jesus.
Anyway is a simpler and calmer song. The song talks as if God saw something in me so He sent His Son. I do not agree. What ever I am? Jesus gives me value. I have no value in myself. It is who God is that gives me value. No redemption, no value.
I Wish the Same for You. First one has joy in his salvation. Second one wants others to know this joy. Third one wants to share this joy with others. Remember the song Wide Eye: it is how a Christian relates to others, that determines how close his walk with Jesus is.
Is It Any Wonder talks about what does really matter. "You do not need the softest curves to have love" is phrase to communicate that physical attractiveness is not the goal or idol to be served. Young girl [ and boys] should seek something more important. the song also talks about the "fastest and biggest toys" as the goal to become a winner in life. This is most certainly not what God wants us to strive for. These things can most certainly effect your relationship with God.
Burnin the song sounds very moody and can be a downer. "Until nothin is left to show", "a new life begins to grow". Does spiritual growth come when a Christian lets go of the things of the world and learns to grasp on God instead? The song is about seeking the things of heaven.
To Say Thanks I use to dismiss this song as meaningless with the lyrics crying repetitively the word why and concluding with the words to give thanks. I used to think nice sounding but what meaning. Listen closely, the songs talks about trials sent by God for our own good. Yes I have wonder why God brings trials to me and at times I have been most ungrateful. Nicole does remark about self inflicted pains briefly, but that is not the subject of the song.
River God A variation of the potter and the clay. God is the river and the Christian is a rock in the river. God flows water over the believer to smooth out his
rough edges. I agree that God chooses times and events [often the mundane] to shape His followers. "Never is the river dry" ,God is always workin on the believer.
It Left Me Wide Eyed.......2004-02-06
One of the most Amazing CD's I have ever listened to. I have all of Nichle Nordemans CD's and I would have to say this one is her best. I listen to it almost every night its one of the first CD's that got me into listening to more music. I think every one should listen to this CD a least once.

The problem with emo.......2006-02-17
The problem with emo nowadays is that there is TOO MUCH!! i am big addict to emo and pop-punk myself, but even i know where the line is being crossed. Some of these bands either need to take more time and make sure their albums are up to par with the other up and comers, or find another genre to play in. the only reason i say this is because there is much of it, that unless you are amazing, no one has the time for you! i am all for making music, even if it is amateur. but honestly people...
this album has a few catchy songs on it. The first track Get Comfortable is actually a sublimely amazing song, with good catchy choruses and fun verses. I got very excited about the album from that song. But then all of my hopes of finding a new sugar kick was destroyed while listening to the rest of the album. A lot of the songs aren't exactly bad, but quite frankly they aren't good enough to hold my attention. Maybe I will look them up in a year or two and see if they have expounded more on songs like Get Comfortable. here's hoping for you, kids!
Junior Varsity Home, Hooray.......2005-10-11
Bought this CD by mistake having ordered it on line but wanting to get the new book WIDE EYED by Trinie Dalton. What an idiot I am. However it turned into a lucky break for yours truly.
Nick Dodson, synthesizer player, must like his keyboards turned down because on almost all of the tracks you can barely make him out, they're floating underneath the other instruments like some sort of safety net for trapeze artists. Nick might consider playing louder, but what he's got is taste, which we all know is rare among synth "wizards." Meanwhile the opposite problem affects Asa Dawson's peculiarly pitched vocals. If Dodson can barely be heard separately, Dawson's vocals seem eerily disengaged from the rest of the band (including his own competent work on bass). I like the way this sounds but I wonder, how different would it be live? Where's this band from, I've never seen them around here. Don't get me wrong, Dawson's got lungs for days, and could hold his own in one of those tobacco auctioner's contests, whatever he's smoking hasn't hurt his voice none.
The lyrics are outstanding, I got a kick out of "Mad For Medusa," with its repeated inner assonances. Medusa, Amelia, Bermuda, it's sort of like an updated version of, you know, that Beach Boys tune from Cocktail. Kokomo. Well, that sounds like an insult but just the opposite. WIDE EYED is a sincere sort of compilation, which I appreciate more and more as I listen to it. These boys are pretty spacey, as though they'd taken the long way around the dark side of the moon, but technical, harmonic and general songwriting chops keep them this side of febrile, if you know what I mean and I expect you do if you're grokked with me so far.
A bit different than your average emo/rock band...........2005-09-09
I saw these guys live back in April when they came up to my university to play a show. They were a great live band with lots of energy, a good singer and a cast of members that knew how to play their respective instruments well. After a 3 month wait their CD finally hit the shelves and I picked it up right away and wasn't disappointed one bit by what I heard. I noticed a few things that I didn't really have the chance to notice the first time I saw them live. These guys are excellent songwriters and the maturity really shows in every song on this album. The album starts off with a bang, showcasing 3 faster paced and well written songs that will pull you in right from the start. The middle of the album slows down a bit and I'll admit that it took a few listens of the entire album before I really got to liking the songs in the middle (tracks 4-9) and appreciated them. "What It Meant to be Clean" heads back to the same faster and catchier formula of the first three tracks while "Saltwater Fountain" is a masterpiece that ends the album well. If you pick this album up I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. There's something on here for everyone, be it emo fans to classic rock fans (you can kinda hear the Rush influences on the bridge of "Everyone's Got Something They're Running Out of". So if you're looking for something that breaks the mold of most alternative rock music out there today, pick up "Wide Eyed" and enjoy.
JV's Wide Eyed & Excellent CD.......2005-07-22
The JV seems determined to prove their control over inventive chops and excellent synth melodic passages that is 100% listenable. My fav track is Saltwater Fountain; with a great synth back melody and swirly sorts of lyrics, the band proves themselves well beyond their years with a well-produced, fresh CD.
JV's sound is as much jazz-fusion as it is alternative rock. A Dave Brubeck fan can find as much to like here as Emo fans or Mania TV addicts and baby, that's impressive.
By the way, for the price of a single CD, the album is packaged with a DVD of other bands on the Victory label's videos (Taking Back Sunday, Silverstein, etc.): a really good deal.
Awesome Major Label Debut.......2005-07-13
I didn't know if JV would be able to top The Great Compromise (released on British Records) but they have done so with an awesome album. The whole thing is great from start to finish. The album is focused without being contained. There was never a point listening to it that I thought I had already heard a song. The songs all vary in sound while mainly staying in the same musical direction.
Its hard to give these guys a specific genre. Most people will immediatly lump them in with the emo genre but I think thats being a little bit close minded. While the overall sound is somewhat emoish, the band does many things to seperate itself from other bands of the genre. One being creative lyric writing. Asa Dawson has got to be one of the most creative energetic vocalists and it comes across in his lyrics. He really thinks outside the box. Plus his voice isn't nasal sounding like other singers.
Another plus is the actual music. Andy and Sergio are an awesome guitar pair and actually play things outside roots and fifths. In fact, they hardly ever resort to just power chords. The rythem section is great with Chris doing some great drums, Asa keeping the bottom end full with bass, and Nick doing some great stuff on synth.
Overall this is a great album, not just for emo and punk fans but for almost any music fans. This is one of those rare albums that almost transcends genres. Even metalheads might enjoy the technical guitar playing. Fans of Keane and Coldplay will enjoy its atmospheric sounds and relaxed feel. And of course the Punk and Emo kids (probably the main audience) will love the energy the band puts into their songs.
A must buy for any music fan. Also check out The Great Compromise.

Great songwriting and great singers. Fresh and refreshing. Who says they don't write 'em like this anymore!
So much fun, I laughed out loud!.......2002-11-03
This album is filled with songs that were such fun, i found myself laughing out loud. This CD also has some great ballads featuring Susan Egan and Tami Tappan and others which truly sent shivers up my arm. If you are a big broadway fan, this album is for you. I really wish Tami Tappan would do an album of her own. Her voice is so lovely, every note she carries out with such perfection. Can't get enough of Tami Tappan!!!
SHE WRITES GOOD!!.......2002-02-21
It's always a pleasure to hear Adryan Russ's material. I was familiar with her musical "Inside Out"--even made it my business to see it when it played off-Broadway in NYC. But this CD gave me a chance to sample from her diverse catalogue of songs. Some of my favorites: "I Want To Live This Love" (destined to be a pop sensation when the right artist finds it),"The Gift" (should be a Holiday classic), and the lovely "Matters Of The Heart." There's also some sensational performances on the CD. Karen Benjamin sings a poignant "Hopscotch," Sharon McKnight delivers a sensational "I Slip Into This Place" and Adryan herself (who has a wonderful voice) scores with "Number." I rate this CD as one of my best buys of the last year!!
Extraordinary!.......2002-02-19
This is an extraordinary recording. Every song is top-notch. I was literally glued to my seat listening to every note and lyric until I had listened to the CD in it's entirety. It's rare that ANY recording can hold my attention like that. Susan Egan's poignant rendition of, "I Hate to See You Go" brought tears to me eyes. And at the same time, there are songs like, "Them" ,that made me laugh out loud. This is a great CD. The songs are great. The artists are great. (Adryan Russ actually sings a song herself. Her voice is GORGEOUS!) The arrangments are BEAUTIFUL. The world is definitely going to hear more of Adryan Russ. So, buy this CD while you can still get a copy!!!!!
Everyone Has A Story.......2002-01-28
With unmistakably Broadway melodic lines, razor-sharp lyrics and wide-eyed performances by top cabaret stars like Sharon McNight and out Jason Graae, EVERYONE finally puts this gifted composer front and center. Russ, best known for her off-Broadway musical Inside Out, couldn't ask for a more convincing showcase. Thanks to the dedication of the participants - especially arranger Grant Geissman and producer Bruce Kimmel - what could have been a mixed bag is an embarrassment of riches. You'll hear shimmers of Menken, Hamlisch, and Shire, but more often, an original voice sings out.

A very underated cd.......2005-09-19
I can't believe there is not one review for this cd? Granted, its Lolita Nation(Game Theory) but, its still a must have for any indie fan of bands such as Lets Active, Go Betweens, Tommy Keene, the Feelies,Connels,Smithereens& yes even some Game Theory.
If you are a fan of college radio, this is a no brainer. I know that I have made some bold statements, but I'm telling you,you wont regret adding this relatively unknown gem to your collection. At the price, how could you go wrong?
The only reason I bring it up is because my copy was stolen from my car with some other of my favorites, but if this means anything, they left my Mission of Burma and stole this one?
I thought I would have a terrible time finding it again, but I could not understand why it was so easy to locate? Unless my taste is not as refined as I thought, but thats highly unlikely. Buy it and you'll understand.

Quality English Record Making.......2004-12-15
Besides the obvious talent of Andy, these recordings display the awesome in-studio genius of two super producers in their prime,Eliot Mazer, and my all time favorite,Glyn Johns. No one could make a mediocre talent sound good and great talent sound better than Glyn Johns. He created a mix of sound that was truely magical. Buy this for Andy's personality---but listen closely to how it was mixed, arranged and recorded by one of the true studio masters----Glyn Johns
An idiosyncratic album!.......2004-07-31
There's no point listening to this album if you can't stand the voice, because in order to really enjoy it you have to accept the idiosyncratic vocal style that Fairweather-Lowe possesses! It also needs to be said that it was never intended that all three albums should be listened to at once. Thus this set is comprised of "Spider Jiving"(1974) tracks 1 to 11, "La Booga Rooga"(1975) tracks 12 to 21 and "Be Bop 'N' Holla" (1976) CD2 tracks 1 to 10 with a bonus 'b' side as track 12.Fairweather-Lowe emerged from 'Amen Corner' and in trying to move on from the restrictions of the format of that band, followed the prevalent Brit Soft rock example of others like Gallagher and Lyle. The session players are excellent with the Memphis Horns featuring throughout the album. Two really outstanding tracks "Every Day I die" and the 'hit' "Reggae Tune". "La Booga Rooga" is more country orientated than its predecessor, with B.J.Cole on pedal steeel featured prominently, along with another set of luminary players including Mick Weaver, Georgie Fame and Bernie Leadon. The obvious attraction is "Wide eyed and legless" [I've gone and done it again!] and "If that's what it takes". The third album is more laid back. Favourite tracks are "I can't take much more", a good attempt at the Beatles "Rocky Raccoon" and "Ain't no fun anymore." There's no doubt that Andy Fairweather-Lowe is an acquired taste, but there's no doubting his pedigree, as he's still touring with Eric Clapton. If you're prepared to give this album time to deliver its own peculiar blend of styles it will reward you with some memorable moments. As you might have guessed I have got to like the style!
Wide Eyed and Wonderful.......2004-07-16
Three of my all-time favourite albums, at last on CD. He's a gritty soulful singer, a songwriter who covers all the bases from R'n'B to reggae to late-night jazz, plus boozy regrets, rage at the music business, despair, delight, regrets, recriminations... The playing throughout is stellar. He's no slouch himself as a guitarist - catch him on the Roger Waters 'In the Flesh - Live' DVD where his rhythm playing is Cooderesque and his solo on 'Money' shows up every other player who simply copies David Gilmour. Anyone into roots music, great singing and intelligent and witty lyrics will surely love this collection.
Just gotta keep on rockin'.......2004-06-10
This great value CD comprises of three albums recorded in the 70's by
Andy Fairweather-Low. Now with Eric Clapton's band, he used to front 60s group 'Amen Corner' With his distinctive voice and outstanding songwriting talent he should of had more success than he did. With a dream crop of backing musicians and first rate songs, you really must buy this CD right away.
You will not regret it I promise you. They just don't make 'em like this anymore!

Flumpa, the adventurous tree frog is going Out of This World! in the much anticipated second release in the multi-award winning Flumpa's World fun, educational audio series from Ion Imagination Entertainment, Inc.. Innovative and unique, this children's album weaves various high energy and melodic musical styles with factual science based lyrics. Wendy Whitten and Rick Florian have joined together again to write fresh and inspiring music with a conceptual theme of space, making this science subject entertaining and accessible for all. Flumpa's World - Out Of This World! is dedicated to all those who worked on the manned and unmanned space missions. They brought the dream of a man on the moon into reality and gave it to the world. A personal dedication to Wendy's father who worked for NASA (Greenbelt, MD) from the beginning (unmanned) up to all the Apollo missions, including Mercury, Gemini, SkyLab and the docking of the Apollo 18 with Soyuz 19. This international space mission took place July 17, 1975 and this album commemorates its 25th Anniversary in hopes that future generations - around the world - will be inspired by our world, our Universe and beyond. Discover a world of twinkling magic, journey to the stars and beyond, explore our galaxy and the mysteries of the Universe in these 13 original, exceptional quality sing-a-long songs for ages 3-9, grades PreS-4th. All lyrics are included. Whitten's clear-as-a-mountain-stream voice (Family Fun Magazine) is featured along with Florian's expert background vocals. Flumpa's World - Out of This World is perfect for use in the classroom or home as a launching pad for creativity and discussion on the fascinating subject of space. In the belief that music can teach in ways that traditional methods miss, parents will appreciate that the lyrics are factual and the songs are engaging. Teachers and museum curators will be able to supplement their science units and displays and make space come alive through the upbeat music and clever lyrics that will stimulate active learning. Extensive testing of the songs on age appropriate focus groups are used before the product goes to market. This insures high-quality standards and instills Ion's commitment to excellence. This collection will stimulate young earthling's imaginations, curiosity and wonder of the Universe. Bound to be a hit with all space fans and explorers, this collection will instill wonder and fascination, while encouraging exploration in children and adults. SONG INFORMATION Eyes to the Sky: a soaring introduction into the Universe. An over view on planets, stars, gravity, motion, our Earth and Moon. There's so much left to discover, just open your mind and wish upon a shinning star! Oh, Astronomy: How did it all happen? Was the Earth the center of the Solar System or was Copernicus right? Just ask Galileo and use his invention, the telescope, to prove that! the sun is the center of our Solar System in this fun, Italian folk style song. Razzle, Dazzle: The billions of stars up in the sky have always allured people through the ages to make up stories and legends of how the stars came to be. This Broadway style song will have you connecting the stars and introducing you to some of the legends in the sky. A Star is Born: The layers of the sun are described in fiery detail in this ethereal song about our source of heat, energy and light. ROY G. BIV: The colors of the rainbow, the visible light spectrum, come to life through an artist named Roy G. Biv (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet). A swing beat for a real cool cat! Out of This World!: Flumpa, the cosmic frog will have you flying by Andromeda and through our own galaxy, the Milky Way. A spacy, 60's vibe will take you on your journey through the Universe. Flumpa Hop: Jump North, South, East and West - you'll have a lot of fun with Flumpa and learn about direc! tion using a compass or the stars. Space Challenge: The dream became real in this high energy, techno pop challenge! In 1969, Apollo 11 with Neil Armstrong and `Buzz' Aldrin (and Command Module Pilot - Michael Collins), made history. One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind made the space program and NASA the center of attention. Special Note: President John F. Kennedy's speech to Congress on May 25, 1961 precedes this song. Actual conversations between Apollo 11 and Mission Control are included. Thank you NASA - Kennedy Space Center, Florida for the audio! Planet Swing: Straight forward, big band, swing beat naming the planets in order from the sun and some interesting facts about each planet . Earth in Motion: Rotation and Revolution - hard motion concepts to understand are explained in a swirling energetic beat. Big, Blue & Green: a melodic and poignant song that focuses on our planet Earth. Our Earth is the only living planet that can sustain life in our Sola! r System. But what makes up our Earth? What are the forces that keep it changing - both subtly and quickly? Earth's Satellite: Since the beginning of time people have wondered about the glowing, ever changing object up in the sky. Our Moon has evoked dreams and desires in everyone. The lyrics are thought provoking and the music is simply beautiful. Anybody Out There?: Everyone wonders, at some time or another, about other forms of life beyond our planet. Is there life out there? Maybe. And if there is, what might it look like? A funny, weird, tempo changing song will have everyone laughing and making up their own aliens

Album Description
Produced by Joe Chiccarelli(Beck, U2, Rufus Wainright, Hole). Careen have been a band since 2002 based in Portland, OR. Newcomers in the longstanding NW Pop/Rock/Alternative music world that brought us The Posies, Pavement, Dandy Warhols, Everclear, and The Shins. Twelve songs about girls and God, love and hate songs. Songs about the art of collision and explosion. Pop rock songs for your stiff sugar-fix playing alongside heavy sad songs, manic mood swings and short attention spans. Just like that.
Customer Reviews:
couture quality.......2005-07-22
Crash Couture is likely the least "indie" album we have received in our existence that introduces itself to us without a proper label. With octopus-ink slick production (thanks to one Joe Chiccarelli, of U2, Hole, etc.. note) and and album filled with songs begging to fill the FM airwaves, I would describe Careen's latest effort as an album set to sell (or "sail") the band high on the mainstream market.
Equipped with a bio dropping names like Foo Fighters and and Fountains of Wayne, that is exactly the crowd (and a huge demographic of album buyers) I expect Crash Couture to grasp. With a full range of the pop/rock formula - from relationship anthems ("Who Loves You", "Tragedy") right up to full force guitar/keyboard/bang on the drum burners like album opener "Lights" - you have every choice to mold the proper inception of Careen from the get go.
With thoughtful lyrics in tow (I think I know how many "rock!" bands would choose to follow the line "no more Christmas out of luck", and it's not with "it's time to suck it up".), Careen have obviously set their sights on a bigger listening crowd.
