Contains 14 tracks, including two bonus tracks: 'The Life We Left Behind' & 'Looking Forward Tomorrow'. The full title is 'Wind In The Willows Rock Concert'.

I bought this CD for the song "Love Is Spoken Here" which was sung at my father's funeral, to celebrate his life and love of music, especially Church music. Our soloist was a friend whose voice warmed our breaking hearts. But when I saw that I could also get the Mormon Tabernacle Choir version along with many other beautiful American songs, I ordered this. I highly recommend MTC if you are seeking choir music to lift your spirit.

If the black-vampire-hunter-as-action-hero genre isn't exactly oversaturated, it's hardly because of the strong star turns of Wesley Snipes in the film adaptations of the popular Blade graphic novels. This sequel to the '98 original may have a plot hole (or three), but Marco Beltrami takes the baton from the original vamp-hunting thriller's Mark Isham and delivers a rousing orchestral score full of dark corners and ominous percussive thunder. While the film's strong, club-mix-heavy song score emphasizes the story's contemporary setting, Beltrami instinctively gets the tale's gothic, sword 'n' sorcery roots, punctuating his rhythmic, suspenseful score with blasts of Barbarian-friendly blasts of brass. The title track fuses the composer's dramatic instincts with the back-to-the-'70s synth-swagger of electronica artist-producer Danny Saber, while "Nomack the Knife" is anything but playful, powered by a beat-heavy symphonic wallop that just might clear the dance floor. --Jerry McCulley

... Blade 2 was actually pretty good. Tough, many of the tracks i hoped for, wasent on the disc at all. Its a ok CD to add to your soundtrack collection.

#Not a review of the actual score, but soundtrack#
Look, for those of you coming to this in search for the songs appearing in the movie other than the composed pieces for the movie will find them on the release titled SOUNDTRACK. Yes, they did pull a big nasty on us with the first soundtrack release with Blade (not II). But if you [iago27sp, I understand your frustration, I can relate] would look a little closer..there is a soundtrack for Blade II, which does actually feature many of the songs appearing in the movie (yet cdnow requires searching for Blade 2, not Blade II, to find it)..take a look..they call this a SCORE for a reason =)

Looking for a Song from the movie.......2002-11-12
Does anyone know the name of the song that plays after Blade emerges from the pool of blood in the last few minutes of the movie when he begins attacking all the security guards in Blade 2?

Remember all the bumpin jams from the last movie that didn't seem to make it onto the soundtrack? Well, it's the same with this soundtrack. I too was interested in the songs from the 'House of Pain' scene. The good news is that I found them. (That's right, there are two songs in that scene.) The first one--the one with lyrics that begins right when they show all the vampires dancing--is "Tao of the Machine" by BT, and The Roots. Run a search on google, I found a downloadable mp3 from some foreign site. The second song, the techno music without lyrics, is "Blood is Pumping" by Voodoo and Serano. I hope this helps everyone looking for the GOOD music from the movie. As far as a review of this CD, take a listen to the samples below and see if it's what your looking for, it wasn't what I wanted.

Top of the line - incredible!.......2007-05-13
If I could give this 100 stars I would do it. Since my trip to Russia in 2006 I "discovered" Dmitri Hvorostovsky, and have since purchased much of his music on CDs and DVDs. All tracks on this particular CD are incredibly beautiful - beyond imagination. Mr. Hvorostovsky was rightfully chosen the "Best Singer of the World" when he was a young man. His lush, full baratone voice is, as the young generation says, "to die for". He has an impressive range, and one can tell he feels music deeply by the nuances in his singing. This CD is one of my favorites of his singing.
Long-awaited follow-up to "Dark Eyes".......2003-01-04
Ever since "Dark Eyes", one of the first albums of Dmitri Hvorostovsky, came out, I've been wishing for the baritone to record more Russian romances. Looks like Delos is more committed to preserving this magnificent voice on record more than Philips did. After all, "Dark Eyes" had a lot of orchestral music, though wonderfully performed by Ossipov orchestra, it effectively reduced the sang material by some about 15 minutes or so. This is certainly not the case here. Well oven an hour of excellent singing is recorded (close-miked) with no interruptions. The songs themselves are the ones most often performed as encored by Russian singers. While baritones or basses have the strongest claim to them, most likely stemming from a long Russian tradidion of low male voice solo, tenors and even mezzo-sopranos have performed some of those to great acclaim.
The absolute hardest thing about performing these songs is not to make them sound sappy, vulgar, or over-done. Of all Russian singers who dealt with this material, I most often think of bass Boris Shtokolov, who sang them with utmost care. Dmitri does just that here. His care for the texts is what strikes me first while listening to "I Met You", a reflective serenade to love long lost. While all songs are spectacularly presented, I would like to mention "Misty Morning" and "I loved you". Like the title song, they are both filled with gentle melancholy, and sang with great tenderness and feeling. Some high-energy items, such as "Troika" seem just a little out of place, but the voice is a sheer pleasure to listen to. In "Oh, Could I in Song Tell My Sorrow", there's a strange change from traditional "your heart would break" to "my heart would break". I am not sure as to why this was done, particularly since the Cyrillic texts are absent.
In liner notes, Hvorostovsky explains the dedication of this album to his father, a chemical engineer, who managed to convey his love for the classical music and Russian romances to his son. I think all fathers need to learn from this man. Wondrous results stem from right upbringing!
The only minor quibble I have is the cover picture. It seems like the producers wanted to target exclusively the female part of the audience by using lots of shades of red color and lots of subdued candlelight. Well, I am sure there are lots of Dmitri's fans among men, particularly those of us who study voice, so I wish Delos would not make the cover so extravagant.
The engineering of this album, though, is very appropriate. The voice is placed well above orchestra (conducted with perfection by Constantine Orbelian) and each word is clearly heard. Together with Verdi Arias recording this shows that Delos engineers are fully capable of capturing the voice of this size and beauty well on record, something I doubted when listening to an otherwise lovely album of Neapolitan Songs.
I am sure non-Russian speakers will enjoy this CD just as much as Russians. After all, we all feel the same, and Dmitri's exceptional talent just makes it easier to communicate across cultural barriers.
ANOTHER WONDERFUL ALBUM FROM DMITRI.......2002-10-11
Once again, Dmitri Hvorostovsky has done another beautiful album. I'm completely thrilled with his last three releases on the Delos lable--the Verdi Album, the Passione di Napoli album and this new Russian love song album. As I have previously indicated on my review of his Passione di Napoli album, I've been a fan of his since his very beginnings in opera, and I do feel that he is truly in his vocal prime.
This album is for the "romantic at heart". The songs are beautiful as is the singing. All I can say of this endeavor is Bravo!!
I'm truly grateful that Hvorostovky's recording career was extended by the Delos lable!!
Dmitri at his best.......2002-10-09
What a treat this CD is. I've been waiting years for the great Hvorostovsky to record another album of Russian folk music, and this is arguably his best collection of that genre to date. Recorded in August, 2001, Hvorostovsky has never sounded better, and the sound quality admirably complements his rich, velvety baritone. Unlike his earlier collection of Neapolitan songs for the same label (DELOS), the recording balance between singer and orchestra will please everyone this time. Furthermore, the CD benefits from stylishly idiomatic arrangements, some fine conducting from Constantine Orbelian, and the sympathetic support of both the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and the Russian folk music performers, the Style of Five.
The 19 songs on the CD are described as "Old Russian Romances", or in professional music terminology as "Russian Domestic (Household) Romances". These are passionate songs of love, "often against the background of vast, empty Russian landscapes with long roads under foggy, gray skies", as the liner notes tell us. Hvorostovsky's dark, expressive baritone is ideally suited to such music, and Dmitri aficionados will no doubt recognise two songs from his earlier CDs of this genre, the haunting title track and the wistful "O, If Only I Could Express In Sounds". The latter was featured on his best-selling 1991 "Russian Romances" CD for Philips, but here - if anything - his singing is even more poetic than in earlier days. Comparing the two versions, one is immediately aware of how much freer Hvorostovsky's top notes are on the latest CD, with his upper register showing none of the slightly constricted quality that occasionally marred the earlier CD. This is the voice of a mature artist, and it is rare indeed to hear such committed singing from the soul.
As if the above wasn't enough, the CD comes with translations, generous liner notes, and an alluring cover photo of the handsome Siberian.
Hvorostovsky in his Milieu.......2002-08-31
This is Hvorostovsky at his finest. His magnificent rich creamy baritone is not taxed. He makes you sigh at beauty of his high
mezzo-voce notes, held endlessly, and trailing off to nothingness. The songs themselves are lovely-sad ballads of lost love for the most part, with a few catchy little ditties thrown in for a change of pace.
As crossover discs go, this one is one of the best. A fabulous singer at his prime, singing the songs of his childhood memories.
Bravo Hvorostovsky!

Sensational Vocal Album by Carole Farley and William Bolcom.......2007-02-13
Carole Farley and William Bolcom have recorded this landmark CD, and I can easily understand why this CD received a GRAMMY nomination in the "Best Vocal Recording of the Year" and a 2nd GRAMMY nomination in the "Best Engineered Recording of the Year" category. It's indeed one of the best vocal albums of contemporary songs ever made. Carole Farley, who made her MET debut in the MET's first LULU production, seems to be just at home with Puccini, Poulenc, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and even Latin American popular songs (her Lecuona songs album is extremely beautiful).
William Bolcom's accompaniment is brilliant, and the songs are a revelation.

Great Songs, but Mind the Singer.......2006-07-04
This is one of those discs where the listener has to balance the advantages of the program with the disadvantages of the performance. Bolcom is one of this country's most versatile and brilliant composers, and those qualities are demonstrated to great effect in the songs on this album. His piano playing is, as one would expect, also solid and expressive. The drawback here is Carole Farley. Although her diction and intonation are good, as far as tone-color goes, she seems to be a one-trick pony; and if you don't like that trick (opera singer trying to sound like what she thinks a musical theater singer sounds like), listening to her can get very tiring. So while I highly recommend the disc for its content, I suggest listening to excerpts first before buying just to make sure that the singer's voice doesn't drive you batty.
The Songs of William Bolcom.......2006-02-14
The American composer William Bolcom (b. 1938) is best-known for his large-scale setting of William Blake's "Songs of Innocence and Experience," which is available on a 3-CD Naxos set. This new collection of Bolcom's songs also on Naxos shows the composers's lifelong fascination with Blake. It includes an early lyrical setting of Blake's poem, "Mary" which deals with a beautiful and intelligent young woman and her rejection by her society. In the several torch and cabaret-style works it includes, the collection also shows Bolcom's attempts to fuse classical with popular styles of music. Bolcom also has done so in his piano music, much of which is heavily influenced by ragtime.
The songs on this CD are performed and selected by soprano Carole Farley with Bolcom himself at the piano. Ms. Farley has also recorded for Naxos' "American classics" series a selection of the songs of Ned Rorem with Rorem at the piano. Ms. Farley and Naxos are doing listeners a service by introducing them to the world of the American art song.
The highlight of this CD is the 20-minute song-cycle "I will breathe a mountain" in which Bolcom sets 11 poems by American women. The poems were selected by Alice Fulton, and they include Fulton's own "I will swing those obligatos around" in which the young singer describes a come-on from a boor. The song writing is declamatory in character with many twists, turns, and shouts in the vocal line. Only the setting of H.D.'s "Never More Will the Wind" is lyrical and flowing. Besides Fulton and H.D. the settings include poems by Millay, Gwendolwn Brooks (a poem called "The Crazy Woman" with appropriately wild shrieks) Anne Sexton, Denise Levertov, Marianne Moore (listen to what Ms. Farley makes of the poets wish to be a DRA' GON), Emily Dickinson (in a moving poem of the stillness of a home after death),Louise Bogan, May Swenson, and Elizabeth Bishop. "I will breathe a mountain" is an outstanding and moving contemporary American song-cycle and is in itself sufficient reason for hearing this recording.
The CD also includes a second exquisite cycle, "Songs to Dance" which sets ten miniature poems by George Montgomery. This is a work to be danced as well as sung, and it has apparently been performed live only once, by the composer, his wife, the soprano Joan Morris, and dancer, Dan Wagoner. It has never been recorded before. The work deserves to be heard and seen.
Many of the remaining works on this CD are cabaret-style theatrical pieces that Bolcom composed in collaboration with lyricist Arnold Weinstein. The best of these are two torch songs from a show called "Casino Paradise": Night Make my Day (a parody of the torch style which is sometimes performed straight) and "My Father the Gangster", in which a young woman laments how men are, understandably, worried about her father and afraid to approach her. The collection opens with a scream by Ms. Farley in the erotic novelty "You cannot have me now", about the affairs of the wife of a German officer, sung with a heavily inflected German accent and also set to words by Weinstein.
I enjoyed Bolcom's short setting of May Swenson's poem "The Digital Wonder Watch" with the tick-ticking in the piano. This song is a satire of technology, with the poet describing the features of her "wonderful watch" while asking: "Does it show how to wind up/a broken heart?" The other songs on the CD include the passionate "The Last Days of Mankind", conceived for rock singer Marianne Faithful, two eloquent settings of poems by Richard Tillinghast, and four concluding early collaborations between Bolcom and Weinstein.
This CD offers an opportunity to explore the world of American song in the works of a leading contemporary composer. The cycle, "I will breathe a mountain" will be a lasting achievement in American art song.

I've liked the King's Singers for a while and remember hearing this version of The Reluctant Dragon years ago. I was ecstatic to find it on CD and upon receiving it, happy to find that The Wind in the Willows is just as good. I hadn't actually read The Wind in the Willows so I got a copy and read it. It is a delightful book, even for adults, if you haven't read it I reccomend it. I think this performance captures the feel of the book and the attitude of the characters very well. I also find I can't help listening to the 'Let's Whallop a Weasel' song over and over again. Great stuff.
Brother Heinrich's Christmas is okay, but it's more of a tale told than a story sung. More narration and less singing than the other two. It also feels like it's more directed at children than the other two.
Still, all in all a very good collection of music and story.
Great Classical CD.......2000-02-19
This is a really wonderful CD, especially the first musical "The Reluctant Dragon". This musical is suitable for everyone, even those without musical backgrounds. I am sure everyone will find it a truly enchanting musical. I strongly encourage everyone to get the CD.
Wonderful Fun.......2000-01-16
The Reluctant Dragon is a silly but warm mix of musical styles that together tell the classic tale in a way that only the King's Singers could do it. It's a seasonal classic at our house! It's great to have it re-released in CD. I had to ask my sister in England to get it the first time on vinyl.

A wonderful sampler of music.......2005-09-23
This disc is a sampler of other Cambridge Singers discs. The tracks on the album were recorded at different times and places, including the regular venues for the Cambridge Singers such as the Lady Chapel at Ely Cathedral and the Great Hall of University College School, London.
--Music--
Selections on this disc come from eight different Collegium recordings, representing a wide range of the Cambridge Singers' work. Pieces here include secular and sacred work, ancient and modern. There are a cappella and accompanied pieces. Composers represented here include Stanford, Bruckner, Verdi, Debussy, Taverner and Purcell, as well as a number of pieces by John Rutter himself. The latter pieces include the first movement of Rutter's wonderful 'Magnificat'.
Guest performers include the King's Singers and the City of London Sinfonia, Richard Baker as a narrator and Wayne Marshall on the organ.
The music is very well done; Rutter's ear for tone and balance is superb, and his building of this ensemble of singers has retained a consistent beauty and grace through the years. Their best pieces are liturgical and religious pieces, but there is a good deal of power and fun in the secular and folk songs.

The notes for this recording include the titles and words of each anthem or hymn. The notes for each piece also includes brief biographical information of the composer, and unique information about each work, when particular composers are represented more than once. One thing conspicuously missing is much biographical information about John Rutter, or any descriptive information about the Cambridge Singers apart from the most basic of information.
--John Rutter--
Rutter was born in London and educated at Clare College, Cambridge. This was where his career as a composer, arranger and conductor began. His early work was with groups at King's College Chapel at Cambridge as well as the Bath Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra. He has worked for the BBC providing music for educational series such as 'The Archaeology of the Bible Lands', until in 1979 he began forming the Cambridge Singers, and has continued a remarkable career of performance and recording as their director ever since.
--The Cambridge Singers--
The Cambridge Singers are a mixed choir of voices, many of whom were members of choir of Rutter's college, Clare College, Cambridge. While they specialise in English and Latin liturgical pieces, they have a wide range of recordings that span from modern compositions (including a remarkable requiem by Rutter) to English folk songs of the Middle Ages. Many are former members of the choir of Clare College and other Cambridge collegiate choirs (hence the name, Cambridge Singers). In the quarter-century since the founding, the Cambridge Singers have produced an impressive body of recordings.

This is a very good 60's release. But yeah, Baby-boomers wouldn't like this stuff, they like anything from the 70's or 80's, like the Eagles, Jimmy Buffet, and stuff from the 80's like Journey, REO Spunkwagon, and yes, Blondie. I kind of like some of the Blondie stuff, too bad that it had to be 80's produced mass marketed music and ruined by garbage producers. This disc has Deborah Harry singing background and lead on a couple tracks. she was probably 18 or 19, and it's better than anything Blondie ever put out. It's original, and somewhat corny, but if you are into anything Indie, Psychedelic, or trippy, you will get the point. Baby Boomers just didn't get it in the 60's and they don't get it now. They still want to hear the same old garbage over produced junk. Jesus, how many times have you heard a baby boomer blab about how great Neil Diamond is, and they don't even know who wrote "Solitary Man" or "Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon". All they know is the stupid Jazz Singer. Jesus Christ of later day saints, baby-boomers have no musical taste whatsoever. Blondie has a dated sound, and most of that dated stuff was produced by baby-boomers. Baby Boomers love over-production, they thrive on it. Who do you think invented Synthesizers and Drum Machines, that's right, Baby Boomers did. Who invented SUV's, that's right, baby boomers once again. Baby Boomers go for the "over-the-top" feeling. They love David Hasselhoff, oh, they cream for him every night, man and woman alike.
The Wind and the Willow was produced back in the 60's probably by some old guy that worked for Walt Disney or something, but that's better than Baby Boomers. Hey boomers, stick to you're Margaritaville and Steve Miller, and live happilly ever after. Sunshine pop lives on in the depths basements full of reels that were never released because of David Hasselhoff lovers.
P.S. Question- Why do Germans love David Hassellhoff so much?
Answer- Because he is the reincarnation of Hitler!
Debbie Does The Mammas & Pappas.......2004-01-21
A young Debbie Harry offers the only real interest here, and chances are, if you found this CD and are bothering to read this, you already knew that. Blondie guitarist Chris Stein called this a "folkie baroquey" group, and that pretty much sums it up. Debbie was less charitable when "High Times" asked in '77 if Wind in the Willows was "easy listening". Debbie replied "Depressing listening." And indeed, it's about as far from Blondie as you could imagine!
Apparently aspiring to do something along the lines of a woodsier Mamas & the Pappas, The Wind in the Willows badly missed their mark, with weak songwriting the primary culprit. It's just plain bad--pretentious lyrics that mean nothing, and a lead singer that can't sing. Debbie's voice, however, is a standout in the background, alternating between a pretty falsetto and a full-voice alto.
With a virginal purity reminiscent of a choirgirl, and completely lacking the campy ironic distance that later characterized her singing in Blondie, Harry is very touchingly earnest on cuts like "Djini Judy" (where she gets to sing lead), but good luck trying to figure out what the song is about. It evokes rainy days spent looking out windows...the whole album at best is a mood piece. It's hard to imagine them really making it big. Unlike the Mamas and the Papas, there's no central image here--either visually or aurally. It's quite simply all over the place. The lyrics are a riddle of in-jokes and oblique references to Tolkein that frequently embarass.
But it's not without it's moments--"She's Fantastic and She's Yours"--a duet with Debbie--sounds like the Velvet Underground on uppers, and even Wayne Kirby's braying can't ruin the cute harmonies or the novelty of this catchy boy-girl duet.
The two singles were "Moment Spent" (a dirge, again complicated by Kirby's bad singing) and "Uptown Girl"--a cheesy attempt at hippy-vaudeville (ick!) complete with kazoos, no less!
Still, if you love Debbie Harry it will be interesting to take this musical stroll with a 23 year old girl who sings with a touching conviciton that is more than the songs deserve, and think about the fact that Harry's "lost years" began right after this recording was made. What exactly happened is still shrouded in mystery. Apparently the drummer, who was Harry's boyfriend, died of a drug overdose, and when the band broke up, Harry thought her musical career through. Even she doesn't seem to remember what she did for the next few years ("I was crazy--completely out of my mind. I wanted to blank out whole periods of my life. I used to cry and cry.").What is known is that she took drugs to "self medicate", worked as a Playboy Bunny for awhile in New York, then ran off to California with a multi-millionaire ("these forty year old guys with guns and infections all over their bodies..."), ran back home after a month, and--apparently in emotional tatters-- moved back in with her parents where she did battle with her drug dependency and paralyzing fears about trying again. As we all know, the story has a happy ending. Less than a decade later, she beat her demons and dramatically metamorphasized into Blondie, kicking off a career that continues to this day. Think of this CD as a chance to peek inside her young head for clues to the mystery.
