Product Description
In the year 2000, Yoyo Records was very proud to release The Microphones' album Window. This collection of six songs and seventeen audio recording experiments helped to establish The Microphones' Phil Elvrum as one of indie music's most innovative artists. The album features the playing and/or voices of some of indie music's best-known names, including Dennis Driscoll, Mirah and Calvin Johnson, and was mostly recorded at that hotbed of audio activism, Dub Narcotic Studio. The songs and experiments run the gamut from tender to bombastic. Stereo is used in uncommon ways and tape delay is used on instruments that don't often experience echo. Many of the sounds used in the experiments are drawn from tracks off The Microphones' album Don't Wake Me Up. The heavenly backing vocals on the song "Ocean" are an example of Phil Elvrum's ability to translate what he had heard and loved about the Pet Sounds-era Beach Boys, and in doing so he made it his own and gave it to all! of us. Now, in the year 2004, Yoyo Records is proud once again to offer the re-release of the out-of-print Window. We hope you love it as much as we do.

For the parent looking to ease their child into a familiarity with classical music, this is a very well chosen set of Beethoven works. It begins with a generous selection of airs composed late in the composer's life. The presence of the flute as the lead instrument on these selections has a soothing quality that moves the ear in an ideally subtle way, especially as it gives way to the more excited piano sonata pieces. Zoltán Kocsis's reading of "Pathétique" is followed by Claudio Arrau's take on the 7th, 15th, and 18th sonatas and Sviatoslav Richter's lyrical take on the 20th ("Pastoral"). Programmed amidst the piano pieces, which are great studies in dynamics and musical spacing, are some fine orchestral snippets, none longer than five minutes. The collection does a fine balancing act, condensing works that don't inherently lend themselves to shortened renditions and carefully managing moods, entry, and egress to each segment. This is fine anthology work. --Andrew Bartlett

Beethoven for Babies.......2007-05-21
My baby and I really enjoy this CD. It is so fun to feel the baby get excited when I play it. I have a pillow speaker and just place it right up against my stomach. It evens helps me to get in a nap or just rest for a while.
Nicest classical CD I have found for my baby (& me).......2005-09-01
This is a very pleasant CD to listen to, and I think the quality of the music is excellent. I enjoy listening to this with my 10 month old son, and we also listen to the radio and lots of modern music. I recently purchased 5 of the classical "Baby Einstein" CDs and I consider them to be inferior to this Beethoven for Babies CD. The Baby Einstein are very synthesized sounding and I think they are annoyingly mellow and kind of dopey. This Beethoven CD is beautiful. In fact I'm going to buy 1 or 2 more from this series.
Ode To Beethoven.......2005-05-13
The actual reason I bought this cd is for "Fur Elise" but it turned out to be much more than I bargained for. Before road rage sets in while sitting in a traffic jam during rush hour, play this. If you need to take it easy and escape from your reality, play this. Need something to play at work that's not explicit or offensive, play this. Of course, it's not Beethoven himself, but if you need some quiet time, play this. Even while you read, you could play this. If you want some authenticity to your collection, get Beethoven for Babies.
Pseudoscientific crap, but some of the music is good here.......2004-05-27
The 3 stars is only because the hucksters that put this together at least had the decency to tracks featuring Arrau & Richter on this CD. A lot of these "turn your baby into a genius with classical music" CDs and tapes feature only lousy musical performances from hack musicians you have never heard of.
That having been said, if you are stupid enough to believe any of this "Mozart Effect" horse manure --- which continues to have no support in any sort of controlled test environment --- then your babies will probably inherit your limited intellectual capacities & no amount of Beethoven & Mozart will ever be able to help them.
If, on the other hand, you are introducing Junior to classical music, you could do worse --- but you could also do better. Go get Arrau's complete Beethoven sonatas & concerti, get the Berg Quartett's complete Beethoven quartet cycle, and get John Eliot Gardiner's complete Beethoven symphonies --- just for a start. Also, don't stop with Beethoven & Mozart. My 9-month old daughter gets a diverse exposure to a thousand years of music, and very little is off limits. She got acquainted with the Bartok Quartets within her first couple of months, and it doesn't look like we have created an axe murderer or anything like that.
Anyway, if you want to create a classical music lover, do it right and go the distance, rather than doing it piecemeal with CDs like this. Your baby may still be a moron, but at least will be a moron with exquisite taste.

SoCo's Finest Showing.......2006-08-09
I first stumbled across Something Corporate with the new musical stylings of Jack's Mannequin and what I found was music that that was just as good as JM but also had a nice flair of harder rock with a little punk edge. This album is SoCo's best work. 'North' is a very good album in itself but just isn't comparable to LOTW. 'I Woke Up In A Car', 'Punk Rock Princess', 'Fall', and many others make this a must have for any JM or SoCo fan.
its not for everyone but that doesnt mean it sucks. .......2006-07-29
ok...so here it goes...this is my last review for a while. if you think about it...reviews are kind of pointless. everyone has different taste even in the same genres. for example..i happen to like some (dare i say it?) emo music, but i dont really dig this album. i mean its a nice piece of work. i respect the talent and effort that went into it..and there are some catchy songs. i dig hurricane...and thats why it was a single. and FYI...just listen to the samples...if they dont grab you...dont buy it. i mean...surely if you've been dumped enough to the point where you listen to deat metal you wont like this album at all...thats a no brainer. and by the way...death metal is the PERFECT music to listen to if you want to prevent being dumped again because noone will want to come near you anymore if they hear you listening to it. (but thats just my opinion...im entitled...right?) so...while this review wasnt really about the abum...i hope it helps people to realize that they need to trust their own tastes...and not the taste of others. i know what i like..so i buy it...im not going to tell you to buy anything i like...because you might not. and...for the record..(pun intended)..i know that if i was a musician...i would LOVE to sell as many copies of my album as humanly possible. besides...if im going to spend so much time making music for people to listen to..im gonna need to make money. i would still love doing it...money just helps. so...selling out aint that bad. or i could just write death metal and have some lonely overly dumped tortured souls at my concert. that would rock. try before you buy....reviews cant help you choose.
Amazing.......2006-05-25
I sometimes have to moderate how much I listen to this cd because if I don't, I would listen to it all the time. There's nothing like a sweet piano solo in the middle of a punk song! I saw these guys in concert back in 2002 and ever since then I have been a big fan.
Punk? Not A Chance.......2006-05-20
I had to find this album in the "punk" bins, likely owing to the fact that this album was released on Drive-Thru records, a haven for Southern California punk bands. As soon as you hear the opening chords of "I Want To Save You" you know this is not a punk album. Like, I mean, who ever heard of a piano in a punk band?
This is the inaugural full-length release from the Dana Point, CA group, having released several of the songs on the album on an earlier EP called "Audioboxer". One more thing that is apparent right from the start of the album is that the writing is not typical of a bunch of 19 year-old kids. It is smart, sexy, and melodic, influenced by years of Elton John and The Beach Boys yet definitely sporting a large dose of New Found Glory and Simple Plan. Most of the writing is done by pianist/frontman Andrew McMahon. McMahon has a way of taking the experiences, the positives and negatives of his everyday life and turning them into engaging and sometimes uncomfortable anecdotes, the verbage put to music with a definite hook. Guitarist Partington has his say on the album as well, his edgier music providing a great counterbalance for some of McMahon's softer offerings.
This album has everything from pure pop, to punk, to heart-wrenching ballads about the effect being on the road has on a relationship. "Cavanaugh Park" is a gentle reflection about growing up in suburban southern California, while "Drunk Girl" is a somewhat embarrassed look at the consequences of overindulgence. All in all, this is a good addition to any music collection, with enough angst to satisfy the teenage crowd yet enough intelligence to please any adult listener. Based on this album, Something Corporate holds the promise of great things to come.
Groundbreaking.......2006-05-18
By far one of the emo CD's made (in the category of Taking Back Sunday's "Tell All Your Friends", Matchbook Romance's "Stories And Alibies", Dashboard Confessional's "The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most" and Fall Out Boy's "Take This To Your Grave"), I'm actually amazed that this release did not become a mainstream success, espicially with it being as appealing as it is to younger audiences with its cathcy hooks and at times "pop" sound.
Singer/Songwriter Andrew McMahon went above and beyond on this release, perfectly expressing the emotions that make the genre as popular as it is. From love and loss to anger and frustration, to even just a few wierd lyrics about child hood bullies, the lyrics of this album are just as dynamic as the hypnotizing sound placed to them.
Track Ratings (1 being the lowest grade, 10 the highest)
1. I Want To Save You (8 - 10): Perfect begining to the CD, espicially with the simple piano opening, then blended in with a drum and guitar line. Opening lyric of "standing on the edge of morning, scent of sex and New Found Glory, playing as she's pulling back her hair" is perfect. Song's about trying to save a modern girl, the mentioning of sex involved in why she needs to be saved is essential really. Song and guitar picks up for chorus throughout the song... simply a perfect opening.
2. Punk Rock Princess (7.5 - 10): I dont know why, but I really couldn't ever get into this track. The guitar riffs are great, pounding throughout. McMahon's lyrics of "You could be my punk rock princess, I could be your grage band king. You can tell me how you just dont need this and your going to be something" is great and placed perfectly in the song. I'd like for the piano to take more of a prominiant role inthe song, but other then that, my complaints are at a minimum and I still dont like the track. Wierd...
3. I Woke Up In A Car (10 - 10): First single from the album, is the defination of 'piano rock'. More fast paced paino opening from McMahon, again with the start of the song with only his voice and piano (similiar to track 1). What gets me about the track is the chorus, by far one the best I have ever heard (one of the reasons why SoCo is such an amazing band are their chorus's). Building guitars to the lyrics of "Well I woke up in a car, I traced away the fog so I could see the Mississippi on her knees. I've never been so lost, I've never felt so much at home. Please write my folks and throw away my keys". Fast paced song, exceptional lyrics of moving on, and amazing instrument plays makes this one a classic.
4. If U C Jordan (6 - 10): I'll give the band credit for writing a song about a childhood bully, plus putting pop sounding instruments to the song, but as a whole I'm not a fan of this track. In a way, its too poppy and McMahon's vocals go from edgy to plain whiney on this one. Always skipped...
5. The Astronaut (7 - 10): First true ballad on the CD, but one that does fall short on some levels. My biggest problem with this track is comparing ones self to a space traveler, how tackful is that? Its a shame becase the piano on this track is excellent, along with the drums and McMahon's lyrics hit perfect pitch on the chorus, espicially when saying "I need to be high". If you take out the stupid comparison, its a great song, so if one can get past that then I'm sure you'll enjoy the song much more then I do.
6. Hurricane (10 - 10): Best song on the CD, would be the top SoCo song if not for that pesky old "Konstantine" song. Great monotone opening, giving into heavy guitars and a perfect drum line. McMahon basically ditches the piano on this one (except for the small solo near the end) to focus on keeping up with his band mates thriving guitars throughout. Make no mistake, this one is a rock song that will get you off your ass. Slow break of McMahon on the piano to the lyrics of "You don't do it on purpose, but you make me shake. Now I count the hours 'til you wake with your babies breath, breathe symphonies. Come on sweet catastrophe." to a final pounding chorus is amazing.
7. Cavanaugh Park (8 - 10): Much better ballad then the first one on this track, about childhood reflection and what we all once had innocence wise before growing up. Is perfectly placed on the CD to go after the up-tempo 'Hurricane'. McMahon again shines on this, his work on the piano is amazing. Only thing keeping from it getting a better grade is the lyrics are subpar in my opinion.
8. Fall (10 - 10): Another one of my favorites. Again McMahon ditches the piano to focus only on singing, although this is a much slower song then 'Punk Rock Princess' and 'Hurricane'. Very slow begining to the track with only vocals over a blase guitar and drum line, however both picking up to McMahon's pleading chorus of "And so I fall...". The lead into the second chorus of "I was so close, that was the most that i have ever been through. Now old cassettes and cigarettes will be the ones to save you. How can you ask for me to stay when all you ever do is go? Just go!" is one of my favorites on the CD. This one gets in your head like 'Hurricane", another great one.
9. Straw Dog (9.5 - 10): If you ever get your hands on a live perfomance of this song, cherish it because its amazing live. That said, this is one of their more poppy songs, however the guitar riffs are simply addictive and will have your head swaying back and forth through out the entire track. Song about confusion and trying to figure out what to do next, the fast paced guitars and extrememly catchy (once again on this CD) chorus make this one another great one.
10. Good News (6 - 10): Really nothing special about this track, lyrics and instruments are very bland and lacking any sort of direction on this track. I really see this one simply as a filler track without any sort of purpose or audience to enjoy it. Shame because its really on the only track on the cd that isnt aimed to anyone or different enough to give credit for at least attempting to write. Always skipped.
11. Drunk Girl (8 - 10): Haha, as a guy who has done this way too many times, I always laugh at this song. Very poppy, but they lyrics are just plain funny to me, espicially simply saying "I kissed a drunk girl on the lips" as part of your chorus. Brings me back to some questionable calls of my own drinking life! Great boozing song!
12. Not What It Seems (8 - 10): I want to like this song a lot more then I actually do. The message of ones life being worse then what people actually thinks it is is an intriguing topic to write about. Chorus is great, as usual, but the insrumentals leading into it are lacking any sort of buildup. Most tracks also feature a great fast paced section to the song, which would have been great on this track, however is absent.
13. Your Gone (10 - 10): I'm shocked more people dont like this song. I think the mixture of acoustic and electric guitars throughout the song fits the song perfectly, espicially when the emotions are suppose to be one of sadness and anger at the same time. What makes this track though are McMahons pleas of "Your gone... your gone... your gone... your gone... your gone... your gone... your gone away. If you don't like being hurt then please dont stay." The raw emotion going into each 'your gone' makes shivers go down my spine each time.
14. Globes and Maps (9 - 10): Best piano ballad on the CD. Only the piano and McMahon vocals on this one, where he is simply spilling his hear about missing someone. I'll always give massive credit to anyone who has the courage to write a song that exposus themselves down to their core, which this track absolutly does. The final chorus and meloncholy piano base can invoke some tears.
"I Woke Up In A Car", "Hurricane", "Fall, "Straw Dog", "You're Gone", and "Globes and Maps" are all amazing tracks and will get into your head for days on end. As is not the case with most CD's in this genre through, there really aren't too many tracks that need to be skipped each time (with the exception of one or two)... in a 14 track album that is impressive. McMahon is one of the top individual performers of this time and his musical and lyrical prowess are on amazing display on this release.

One of my favorite songs.......2007-03-25
I am a hardcore fan, and this single is one of the best song they have released.Totally worthy.
One of U2's best Singles!.......2007-03-21
I've been a U2 fan for a long time and have collected several of the single releases of their music for some time. Window in the Skies, Pt. 2 is near the top of my list of the best. Window in the Skies is much different than most U2 songs as it is almost the perfect receipt of U2 at it's best, a dash of the Beattles, and a hint Sinatra making it very unique. The 2 live tracks Zoo Station and Kite are great inclusions to this single, with the live version of Kite being the jewel of the album. This live cut is very well done (much different than what was performed on the Elevation Tour) and includes a long Edge guitar solo...it is amazing! Overall, you will not be disappointed with this single.
Taking you higher.......2007-03-13
Excellent single to own, especially if you are a die hard U2 fan. The live tracks Zoo Station and Kite from the Vertigo tour, really make the purchase of the disc extremely satisfying. I think Edge's guitar solo on this live cut of Kite may be one his best.
With an 8 minute version of Kite..........2007-03-07
You can't go wrong. Windows in The Skies also a great song, but i'm guessing most people reading this review probably already has U218.

Great movie, better soundtrack.......2007-05-19
I just recently saw this movie and the only thing I could think about afterwards was that I had to get this soundtrack. I'm not usually a big fan of movie soundtracks, but this cd is unlike any other out there, soundtrack or not. The use of strings and carnaval type instruments is completely unique and makes this a must by for any fan of music.
great collection of unusual music.......2007-05-07
Rented the movie on reccomendation from Netflix, it was pretty good. But the music was the star of the show. The soundtrack follows the course of the movie pretty closely, it's kind of like listening to the movie. Each track brings to mind a specific scene in the movie. One of the highlights is the ecclectic treatment of Burt Bacharach's "Close to You". Most will remember the super-sweet Carpenter's version, but this interpretation was the main reason I bought the music. Unusual augmented chord progressions and almost minimalist format (complete with the mechanical background sounds made by the female jack-in-the-box-like, life-sized, mostly metal toy dressers) make the tune as captivating as in the movie when they 'convert' the trapped Helena into the black princess. Great music to play while relaxing, too.
Supurb.......2007-03-08
This soundtrack is truly a delight to listen to. It ranges from quirky circus music to deep and melodic mysterious tunes. It is a great CD to relax to and to use as background music for most any relaxing time hanging out with friends.
Amazing!.......2007-02-24
This is a very good soundtrack to a very good movie. The music is amazingly composed and is nice to listen to.
excellent.......2007-01-17
This CD is excellent! All the music from the movie in its entirety, all the songs are complete songs, and the songs are all top notch compositions.

With dark shades of dub and songs that stretch with patient grace, 100th Window finds trip-hop legends Massive Attack seeping through your speakers with the same eerie intensity they mined on 1998's revelatory Mezzanine. The burden of high expectations has been a constant for this band since they released the classic Blue Lines in 1991. Under pressure to produce yet another record that changes the playing field of dance music, the collective has turned in a brooding, orchestral work that profits greatly from collaboration. The breathy, distinctive voice of Sinead O'Connor elevates a song like "What Your Soul Sings" into a deeply affecting, candlelit nocturne, while Horace Andy's stylized vocal washes through the string-laden "Name Taken." O'Connor also shines on "A Prayer for England," a remake of "Safe from Harm" off Lines, as her barely contained emotions artfully collide with Window's stark, distorted production. It may not turn the world upside down again, but Massive Attack retains the power to keep you transfixed and blissfully off-balance. --Matthew Cooke
Customer Reviews:
Great album!.......2007-06-27
This Massive Attack album is outstandingly great. From the photographs in the booklet to the music itself. However, this one features less rap influences that Mezzanine and has more electronica on it. I loved it and if you like trip-hop or are a Massive Attack fan, this is a must-buy. Completely worth the money.
Massive talent!.......2007-02-22
This is Massive's best effort yet. Seldom do I give 5 stars, but this one deserves it.
Possibly too dark..........2007-01-16
If you come looking for a simple, happy set of tunes, don't! This time Massive Attack have teamed up with Sinhead O'Connor, whacky Irish artist, and in places it becomes downright depressing. It can be a grower, but if you want to get into Massive Attack, do it chronologically!
HIP-KNOT-TEAK........2006-11-28
Well. This is certainly going to take some getting used to (and I mean that in a good way.)
Got turned onto this ensemble by way of a friend's recommendation, and when sampling the incredible music of SHPONGLE. As others in here have alluded, the group's misleading name made me ignore them at first. (So did Daft Punk's.) When I learned they were electronic, though, I decided to look into their world. I've sampled all of their music, and so far, MEZZANINE sounds like the only other one I'll explore. I don't want to incur the wrath of others by saying this, but their first few CD's sound a little too urban for me...my tastes lay more in the realms of electronic chill-out music, and 100TH WINDOW delivers that in spades. What's going to really take some getting used to, though, is the dark atmospheres this music takes you through. Remember the 1983 vampire movie, THE HUNGER? (Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, Susan Sarandon.) This CD sounds like music that would have been played in the chill room of the bar in the film's opening sequence. Which is not to say that this is BAD chill music...far from it. It just shines a light on the darker side of humanity from one track to the next, even in the face of Sinead O'Connor's spiritually-uplifting lyrics in the excruciatingly beautiful and haunting "What Your Soul Sings." The songs also have a typically-dark King Crimson feel to some of them (ESPECIALLY "Special Cases"); in fact, I'd venture to guess that if Robert Fripp himself had been asked to guest on this CD, he might very well have jumped at the chance.
The bottom line: I can fully understand why those who loved Massive Attack's first two releases are unhappy with this one. They're entitled to their feelings, but I don't believe it justifies giving this release negative reviews and/or low stars. It's a work of art unto itself, taking us on magic carpet rides through dark, icy realms that instill both fear and a sense of childlike awe. The electronics, production and engineering are all first-rate. The vocals, for the most part, complement the music well (some selections better than others). My only gripe about the disc is the electronic passage hidden at the end of "Antistar." I love ambient electronic passages, but this seems to have just been tacked on as a single loop, and as an afterthought of 3-D. Much could have been done with this section of music, and it was more or less just left to fend for itself. Oh, well.
At any rate, for those into hypnotic, haunting electronica that brings to mind evenings spent in the quiet company of others of like minds (and with a large plate of magic mushrooms on a coffee table in the middle of the room), this release from Massive Attack is absolutely essential. Enjoy your trip, and thank you for flying Trans-Love Airways.
Whispers of Deep.......2006-09-13
Captured and hypnotized by something too distant to explain. My life has actually been altered and improved with the introduction of 100th window. I have no explaination of what to expect or how to describe the absolute brilliance. I can tell you that I've actually introduced Massive Attack into several lifes since my initial purchase several months ago, with nothing but positive response. I've waited a long time for something like this.

Customer Reviews:
Great to Hear All those great Voices from the Past.......2007-07-05
I just wanted to confirm what the first reviewer had to say about this CD. To hear Ethyl Merman, Mary Martin, Andrea McCardle etc. singing their trademark songs brought a lot of memories from the mid-centry musical theater back again. The last song by Glynis Johns is especially poignant.
You certainly can't beat the price!
A Good One!.......2006-11-10
This is a very good CD, mostly because it's the original artists. I've had some that were re-recorded by no name artists that were ghastly. This one is a really good one--including the sound quality. If I had one wish, I would wish it were longer!

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Customer Reviews:
A beautiful voice - wasted.......2007-07-10
I was introduced to Mary Fahl via October Project. I had never heard anything like them before or since and Fahl's voice is nearly beyond compare with anyone else, though as an earlier reviewer said, Annie Lennox and Carly Simon come close. I just don't think they have Fahl's range.
So, you can imagine after October Project's demise, I was looking forward to hearing more of Fahl. After-all, a voice like that just can't be silenced.
Too bad it wasn't - at least for the garbage on this album. Redemption is probably the only song that shows what she can do with her voice. The rest is just a waste of her talents. God, I certainly hope she does not go down the same road that Karen Carpenter did and make everything she sings sound like a funneral dirge. She's trying very hard with the muck written for this album to do just that. The writing credits alone should have been enough to give it away right there. HOW many people does it take to write ONE song? Apparently as many as want to have a say in it for this disaster. Listen, if you start getting more than two people tossing in their two cents worth on any one song, you had better consider not writing it, much less trying to sing it. It is going to sound like a collage of miss-matched ideas and influences. Gee - just like most of the music (if you can call it that) on this album! I certainly hope that Mary Fahl will be able to find another record label willing to take her on when her current one dumps her for this waste of money and resources - with the priviso of course that all she does is sing the songs a talented songwriter creates for her.
only 3 good song.......2007-01-11
still, october proyect is the best and her voice is the best, but this cd is not the greates but think about if you like her and then buy it.
Beautiful and Perfect.......2007-01-09
The more I listen to this cd the more I am entranced with it. I have enjoyed Mary Fahl's voice since October Project. I am eagerly awaiting some more new material. She has a very powerful and touching voice. I gain something new each time I listen to her voice, music and lyrics. Thank you Mary!
Emotional Voice.......2006-06-09
Since when the founder October Project came to an end, Mary's voice was already one one of the highlights of the band. And this is proved here. A very good debut album!
Style departure.......2005-08-14
Like previous reviewers, I too was sceptical about this CD."The
Great Unknown" seems to be an October Project track right off, billowing, inspiring and lush, you would never know the difference. It is my favorite. The rest of the songs really take a departure in style from what I am used to hearing from Mary. Though enjoyable, she seems to be searching for an audience. I hope she continues to put out sounds which can inspire and provoke thought in their writing without getting too sentimental. Pretty girl, great voice, don't let them change your style.

Trout Fishing in America has wide appeal.......2007-04-12
After hearing Trout Fishing in America at a concert in my home town, I decided to buy a CD for my husband and me and one for my 7-year-old granddaughter. When we got together, we played (her) "Big Trouble" and (our) "My Best Day". I don't know who enjoyed it more--the children, the parents, or the grandparents. My granddaughter was soon singing along with "When I Was a Dinosaur" and other favorites on the CD which is not surprising when you consider how many times she listened to it during the weekend. Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood are wonderful musicians, clever song-writers, and just all-around great entertainers. Here's to many more years of their audience-pleasing CD's and personal appearances.
Big Trouble is great.......2006-08-09
My favorite is still Family Party, but that's probably because I've had it for years--I bought it even before my son was born. We enjoy Big Trouble, we just have to listen to it more often to really get to know the songs. We especially like the title song--that poor kid, in such big trouble because the monsters have wrecked his house!
Great, Upbeat Music for the whole Family!.......2006-07-02
I used to work at a toy store and believe me we had to play some really bad music, but when this cd was on, the time just flew by. Now I listen to this music with my son. It is really upbeat and is something I would recommend when you need to pass the time like when you're in the car or cleaning up. The songs are creative, not the same old sing alongs you get on all the other kids' music cds.
this is so funny!.......2006-03-10
I HAVE THREE CHILDREN WHEN I PUT THIS CD ON WE LAUGH AND IT'S EVEN FUN FOR ADULTS! I THREW HER OUT THE WINDOW! MY SON WHO WE GOT THIS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY LOVED HEARING THIS ON HIS SCHOOL BUS!HE TOLD ME THAT HE WANTED THIS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY.WELL THANK GOODNESS AMAZON HAD IT AND FOR CHEAP! I NEVER KNEW THAT ORDERING COULD BE SO FUN AND FAST!
The Reason I rarely buy stupid popular character kids music.......2006-01-07
Popular fad kids music willl never be able to compare to the perfection that is Trout fishing in America. Fresh, funny, lively addictive music the whole family will want to listen to together.
I was introduced to Trout fisning in America long before I had kids. My husband had 2 CDs fromhis college days.
Every single son on this tape is memerable. YOu will find yourself singing, or trying to sing along in the case of Proper Cup of Coffee!
There are way too many laugh out loud lyrics, the music is contagious and makes you want to move.
Lastly Lullaby is actually a sweet beautiful piece.
NOt only are they fun songs but these 2 men have great voices!

A Great Entrance for Another U2 Era...........2007-05-10
What a wonderful little treat from those Irish boys. This single is taken from the album U218 Singles. "Windows in the Skies" being the second single from that album, while "The Saints are Coming" was the first. Now this CD only features two tracks, which is a slight disappointment. I can recall when CD singles had at least 3 to 4 songs, in the old days.
Windows in the Skies: This is a jovial and up beat song. It is a beautiful arrangement of melodies and vocals, a very catchy tune with wonderful lyrics. I had heard this song had a Beatles feel to it. I didn't know what that meant until I actually heard "Windows in the Skies"; once I did I can see why the comparison was made. This song is very different from anything on "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb." I really hope this is the direction U2 will be taking with their new material. However, I thought they would be going in a certain direction when they recorded "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" (featured on the Million Dollar Hotel soundtrack) and they didn't. I also thought they would take a new approach with "Electrical Storm" (featured on the Best of U2: 1990-2000) yet again they didn't.
Tower of Song: This song is from the film "I am Your Man". The lead vocals are by Leonard Cohen. I have to be honest, the only song I ever knew by Cohen was "Coming Back to You", and I had only heard covers of it (for instance Martin L. Gore's version). So this is my first time really hearing his voice. I have to say the first time I heard "Tower of Song", I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Cohen's voice is coarse and a bit abrasive. It appears that he is talking more than singing. However after a few listens, I really began to like it. The music is amazing; of course U2 is playing, the music is mellow and hypotonic. In the latter part of the song, Bono jumps in to sing a couple of lines. This is cool, but I almost think his lyrics and vocals could have been omitted and it wouldn't have affected the quality of the song. Mainly because Cohen does such a good job. I know that this is a reasonable charges for heresy, saying that Bono was needed. Don't worry, still much love for Bono.
Overall nice little package. Just a side note, it is always strange when a band records songs in between albums, it might be an indication of what is to come or it isn't. So I am not sure if these two songs are foreshadowing the future of U2 or just more musical experimenting. Either way I am sure my ears will be pleased.

Great Single and Great Collaboration with Leonard Cohen.......2007-01-27
Veteran rockers and humanitarians U2 return with a single that is bold in its determination to focus on the light in these darkened times. A plea and a reflection, they ask us to see what love has done to individuals and to nations, in effect, allowing us to survive and work always to enhance its scope and power.
The collaboration with Canadian Leonard Cohen is exciting as well, demonstrating Cohen's power as a vocalist and wordsmith and the Edge's masterful, I dare say genius, use of the guitar to transport listeners to sonic spaces replete with all the colors of the emotional rainbow.
Just between us, this little two-song set is what the people who live in France refer to as a tour de force.
WORTH IT FOR THE B-SIDE ALONE!.......2007-01-21
Don't get me wrong - "Skies" is a satisfying and ebullient U2 track, but the Leonard Cohen collaboration, "Tower Of Song," is the real attraction here. Cohen's lyrics and delivery are gritty, poetic, and spine-tingling; and Edge's guitar/synth/backing vocal concoction is above-and-beyond. Bono only sings a single, if memorable, verse, but in this rare case it works that he took a back seat - Cohen is incomprable on this song!
"Tower" has officially turned me on to Cohen (whom I only know a few great songs by), and makes me want to check out the tribute film ("I'm Your Man") it originally appeared on. This is one of U2's best singles in years.
