If you're looking for something with wafting steel drums and a little literature on the plight of the humpback whales, it is best advised you immediately type "Sting" into the search engine. There are few signs of maturity on Andrew W.K.'s sophomore album - the tempo is a little slower, the production bigger - although after coming up with three songs with the word "Party" in the title last time around he does narrow it down here to just the one, "Long Live The Party." Like everything else on The Wolf, it is completely out of control, piled high with fire-breathing riffs, demonic choruses, and the kind of message even toddlers can grasp: "I want to have a party / You cannot kill the party." Playing with former members of Florida speed-metal bands, the white denim clad rocker delivers a set that is as brutal as it is brutally funny. Oprah has nothing on the sage advice delivered in power-ballad "Never Let Down" ("You're doing O.K. / Just follow your heart"), while lingering Loverboy and Night Ranger fans will welcome the melodic collision of pianos and screaming guitars on tracks like "The Song" and "Totally Stupid." There aren't too many records like this, and that's probably a good thing. --Aidin Vaziri

Stunning.......2006-09-11
I LOVED I Get Wet.
It is likely one of my all time favorite records, and maybe you will base your reaction to my review based on that fact, but AWK rocked so hard in I Get Wet that it was only measurable on a scale of simultaneous orgasms.
The Wolf is NOT as good as I Get Wet. I was heartbroken, but if you're getting The Wolf hoping its just as AWESOME, you're in for a letdown. However, if this is your first Andrew WK record, or you are just getting it without expectations, I recommend it highly.
He is truly a genius without bounds.
Utterly ridiculous--in a good way.......2006-08-15
"Every song is set out to be the most exciting song I can possibly write."
After delivering a debut in 2001 whose only flaw was rocking too hard, Andrew was faced with a daunting task: craft a sequel.
This is why we are alive. The triumphant opening words of the album. The guitars come in. Then, only two minutes later, the shouted refrain: I wanna have a party/Can I get a party? announces the album has begun in earnest.
Given that three songs on his previous album also involved the word "party," Andrew W.K.'s life oevre is clearly not a collection of separate works, but a gestalt that will continue to grow as long as he is alive, like Dante's Divine Comedy or Radiohead's Amnesiac and Amnesiac. He is unapologetic for rocking hard, and asks no permission to do so: this is a refreshing attitude in a post-Matrix world in which every action scene must be accompanied by lengthy philosophical exposition. Andrew stays true to his artistic vision.
"Every song is written as, I am so incredibly blown away by what I just heard. I'm gonna do it again and again, I'm gonna repeat those parts, I'm gonna play them again, I'm gonna play them louder, and I'm not gonna hold back."
As A.B. Spellman said in his liner notes to John Coltrane's A Love Supreme, Andrew's music is "Like Wagner -- it begins on a plane at which most performances end and builds to a higher plane than the average listener considers comfortable." After years of radio waves clogged by Sir Nose D'voidofrock and the Placedo Syndrome of disco, lo-fi, unplugged, anti-loud elevator music, it's understandable that having our collective mind rocked so severely would hurt a little bit--but it's pain that hurts so good, baby.
"I want each part to be more exciting than the last, so you can't even decide what you like, and just know it's all not a coincidence, or accident, or mistake, that it was done with a purpose and a commitment to be slamming, exciting music. It all is written on piano and it goes from there."
Admittedly, this isn't a great album. But it is a good one, and it's fun, and the music feels much less self-conscious than other fashionable retro-rockers from the Strokes to the Darkness. Nothing bad will happen if you don't listen to it, but something good will happen if you do. Smile, baby.
I truly feel sorry for people who can't enjoy Andrew W.K........2005-01-18
Like the title says, by hating on Andrew W.K., you're only truly hurting yourself. The man's a ball of healing white light, and if he passes on before me, I expect to have a beer with him, Mr. Rogers, and Bob Ross in the afterlife when I go. I Get Wet is the greatest party record since... you know, I'm not even sure. It's been so long since a record partied that damn hard. Probably something by Queen, honestly. And The Wolf is every bit as good a record, if not better. Unless you're just the most jaded hipster in existence, you will feel genuine uplift during tracks like "I Love Music." I've seen the man live, and it was one of the greatest shows I've ever attended. I'm a pretty quiet, reserved guy, but I never once stopped jumping up and down for that entire two hours. And Andrew rocked a thousand times harder than I did that night, for certain. If you're reading this Andrew, many thanks for the phenomenal albums, and thanks again for that message you left on my answering machine.
Repetitive,Loud and Boring!.......2004-12-22
I first heard A.W.K. on a Warped Tour cd from 2003. I heard Ready To Die and I loved that song. A couple weeks later I went to best buy and saw somw A.W.K. albums. I was hesitant to pick one up but I had to get it knowing that it probably was awesome. I must warn a lot of people don't pick up an album because of one song! I learned the hard way.
When I heard the first song I wasn't impressed. Sure, I admit it does pump you up like all of these songs, but that's it. Every song on this album sounds the same, loud, repetitive, and boring. But the worst part is most of these songs average out to be up to four minutes long! It's so repetitive I don't know how anyone could like this.
Just before I wrote this review I listened to the album. It's around 45 minutes long so brace yourself. The real problem is you can't get into this, the vocals sound the same every song and there is nothing to them. Loud noises and a few synthesizers here and there. Overall don't get this! Download maybe one song from this album, because they all sound the same REPETITIVE, LOUD, LONG, and BORING!
3-1/2 stars -- I defended his first album, but..........2004-09-28
Being a fan of Andrew W.K., I praised his first album. But I can't necessarily do the same thing for his latest album, The Wolf. Not that it isn't a good album, but you really can't tell the difference between a lot of these songs. In fact, you could play a song like "Your Rules" and not be able to tell whether it's from this album or I Get Wet.
All arguments aside, this album has its moments in songs like "The End of Our Lives" and especially "I Love Music". But there are also some missteps, like the corny "Make Sex"; and "Victory Strikes Again" has more music than actual singing. And as for "Really In Love", please, Andrew, no more power ballad attempts.
It's too bad that this album isn't selling very well, and Andrew's show on MTV2 didn't really do much for publicity either (I'm not even sure if that show still comes on). While not the most creative of records, The Wolf is still good to listen to for a tremendous rush of energy.

Hour of the Wolf Delivers an Excellent Performance.......2007-06-09
Being a long-time Steppenwolf fan and a musician myself, I purchased this album when it was first released in 1975 and also saw the band play this live on their promo tour for this release. The album delivers some great straight-up, hard-driving rock music and the band played a very tight, excellent live show. The combination of original members Kay and Edmonton, along with seasoned, long-time bassist George Biondo (and excellent bass player), coupled with Bobby Cochran who joined the band for the previous album "Slow Flux", all combined with newcomer and excellent keyboardist, Andy Chapin to turn in a stellar performance (this was, unfortunately, the only Steppenwolf album featuring Andy on keys). It's just too bad their record label didn't aggressively promote the album because there is some very strong material there. BTW, I was saddened to read on the Steppenwolf web site some years back that both Jerry Edmonton and Andy Chapin have both since died in accidents (different accidents). Andy died in the same plane crash as Rick Nelson and Jerry was killed a few years later in a car accident.
A Must For Real Fans Of The Wolf.......2005-05-28
"Hour Of The Wolf", is one of Steppenwolf's best albums ever and has since become a collector's item since it's now out of print. It rocks from start to finish with some blistering tunes, "Hard Rock Road", "Two For The Love Of One", and "Mr. Penny Pincher", just to name a few. There really isn't one bad song on the album. It is a bit different sounding than their earlier albums which had a bluesy sound. "Hour Of The Wolf", has more of a straight ahead rock sound which was the sound of the day when it was released in 1975. Joining original members John Kay, drummer Jerry Edmonton, and longtime bassist George Biondo on this fine release are new keyboardist Andy Chapin and guitarist Bobby Cochran, who had joined the band the previous year. Both had a lot to do with the band's fresh new sound. Bobby Cochran had proven himself to be an outstanding guitarist and songwriter on Steppenwolf's previous album "Slow Flux", and new keyboardist Andy Chapin was a much better keyboardist and over all musician than Goldy McJohn. Not enough credit has been given to Andy Chapin which is a shame because he played a major role in bringing that added punch, fresh new sound to the band. If one of the Steppenwolf greatest hits collections is the only cd you have by the band in your collection...do yourself a favor and check out "Hour Of The Wolf", you won't be sorry.
Hour Of The Wolf (An Unsung Classic).......2005-02-13
Originally released in 1975, "Hour Of The Wolf", wasn't one of Steppenwolf's best selling albums. The reason being, it didn't feature a classic, signiture hit single, and the band's sound had changed from a gritty, hard-blues-rock to a more polished hard-pop-rock style. I'm not saying "Hour Of The Wolf", wasn't a good album, it has it's moments. Of the 8 songs featured on this release, there is only one clinker, "Annie, Annie Over", written by Alan O'Day who also wrote "Train Of Thought", that was featured on Steppenwolf's follow up album "Skullduggery". O'Day also wrote Helen Reddy's number 1 hit "Angie Baby', and scored a late 70's pop hit for himself, "Undercover Angel". While Alan O'Day is certainly a talented songwriter, musician, his style of writing just doesn't work for Steppenwolf. Now, let's look at the positive side of "Hour Of The Wolf". "Caroline (Are You Ready For The Outlaw World)", written by Mars Bonfire (who also wrote the Steppenwolf classic, "Born To Be Wild"), was released as a single but got no promotion whatsoever from the band's record label (Epic Records), and died a quick death. With no support for "Caroline...", (or the album) from Epic Records, "Hour Of The Wolf", lingered in Billboard's top 200. The one song that did get some airplay on the FM stations was "Mr. Penny Pincher", that remains to this day as a favorite by the hard core Wolf fans. Other highlights on this fine release include, "Hard Rock Road", "Just For Tonight", "Someone Told A Lie", and "Another's Lifetime". While it may not have sold a million copies, "Hour Of The Wolf", is a very good album that just didn't get the record company promotion it deserved.
No Goldy + No Larry + No Nick = NO GOOD.......2003-04-25
This 1975 release saw the band at their lowest point since the beginning of their career. Gone was the great band from the Monster\Live days with the only remaining band members the drummer and the lead singer. When Larry Byrom left after the 7 album they lost a great writer\ guitarist and this is the first effort without origional keyboard player Goldy McJohn. They also miss Nick St. Nickolas even though George Biondo is a fair bassist. If you want to hear good Steppenwolf then buy 7, Monster, or maybe the Second. For hardcore fans only.
Downhill From Here.......2002-03-16
In the mid-70's there was a change in direction for Steppenwolf, the band had left in 1971 on a hard-rocking album, and came back in 1974 with pop influenced album. For the next album, "Hour of the Wolf" the band comes dangerously close to do disco sounding material. They went a step further and actually did with "Skullduggery". There's some good ole rock n' roll here and there on this album. One more Mars Bonfire composition. A completists/hardcore fans only album. Not for the new fans.

Sorry, folks, but you've got the wrong record.......2002-11-24
I'm reviewing "Canis Lupus", wich is the album you've posted as "Saturation Point". "Canis Lupus" was the first of three records Darryl Way did as a solo artist between 1973-74, connected with all the troubles happened with Curved Air. If you're into rock music with an approach to most elaborated (aka classical) music this should be a record to pay some attention, although not as good as "Saturation Point". The songs are quite good, John Etheridge's guitar mingles in perfection with Way's violin extravaganzas, supported by a fairly good rhythm section by Messecar and Mosley. Anyway it's a record from another era, suitable for symphonic rock nostalgics of the early seventies. Before you heard it i strongly recommend an audition of the earlier records from Curved Air ("Air Conditioning", "Second Album", "Phantasmagoria" or the supperb "Live" album).

25 years.......2004-07-11
Nothing like Saturation Point. My favorite best and only one. More than 25 years passed since I first had this LP album in my hands, now I can enjoy listening this magnificent sound in a CD format (I honestly prefer LP's). I mention this just to let you know that you are in front of a rare, rare, difficult to find album. To start with, in order for you to know what kind of references I can provide, I enjoy Yes (close to the edge), Pink Floyd (whish you were here), Pallas (the sentinel), Van der Graaf (pawn hearts), Montefeltro and Roxy Music (stranded), among other groups like those.
I love violin and this remarkable work of Darryl Way is breathtaking. The balance and personality of the violin is excellent, you never get enough of the sound, also it is clear that the instrument has the lead role. Darryl Way's performance is much more spontaneous compared to his previous work with Curved Air (which I also respect). Saturation point in my opinion is the best of Wolf's three albums (Cannis Lupus and Night Music).
If you really are involved into progressive rock and appreciate violin, listening to this album will be a milestone in your life.
