Writers' Block Party: Audio Magazine Issue One

Writers' Block Party is a magazine on CD, a collection of small, audible gems. Unlike a print magazine, most often read once and recycled, you'll want to keep this debut issue, maybe even put it on "repeat." United States poet laureate Billy Collins's irreverent verse on memory, "Forgetfulness," performed in front of a warm crowd, kicks off the 51-minute disc. What follows is a bowl of sweet Lucky Charms: songs, monologues, stories, various clever musings, a play, and a lovely little greeting card. Each is bite-sized, entertaining, and original. Performers include humorist Patricia Marx; the witty, heavy pop duo the Good; writer Cynthia Kaplan (New York Times, McSweeney's); and comedienne-songwriter Christine Lavin. Pop in this CD and the gaggle of sharp, silly, artsy friends you always wished you had will parade into your home or car, eager to entertain. The McSweeney's-esque liner notes and hidden blooper tracks are icing on the cake. --Amy Horn

Audio Food For The Ear The Brain (and a big Time Saver Too)!.......2002-05-17
The producers have collected and put in one convenient place what I could have never discovered on my own even after spending hours listening to several different kinds of radio station formats and reading piles of newspapers, periodicals and literary magazines...and then ignoring all the stuff I wasn't interested in.
I have listened to it at home, in my car, on a plane, at the gym and at work. It's a wonderful audio magazine full of surprises and delights and I can't wait for future releases!
