Yeah! [Import]
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Here Barnes pays tribute to hard bop pianist/composer Horace Silver. Pianist John Donaldson has transcribed all the pieces, which are mainly taken from the classic Blue Note quintet recordings of the early 60s. Donaldson's crisply funky playing is a neat fit with Silver's soulful, airy tunes, but his occasional Tyner-esque splashes take the energy level up a notch. Trumpeter Steve Waterman (an eclectic, technically assured player) takes the Blue Mitchell role with relish. Fat-toned, precise and fiery, he's a perfect foil for the leader. While there are only two ballads here, they provide Barnes' best moments. Donaldson's lucid, Bill Evans-esque chording inspires a sweetly poignant reading of "Lonely Woman", while the opening of "Peace" features a meltingly gorgeous statement on alto, accompanied only by Dave Green's ever thoughtful bass. One of my favourite musical moments of the year so far, I reckon. Not that the uptempo numbers are in any way shabby; the band kick up some serious dust at times and of course Barnes enjoys working at speed - check the furious solo on "Finger Poppin'" for details. This is assured, beautifully played jazz. It won't change the world, perhaps, but who cares.

Diplo Remix Rocks.......2006-04-20
The Diplo remix of Gold Lion on this album is tooooooooooooo tight. Really, so good. Well worth the $$.
Gold Lion.......2006-03-28
First single off the new album "Show Your Bones" is amazing. Guitars and vocals are a bit more produced than "Fever to Tell," but they still maintain that edgy YYY sound. The two remixes by Diplo and Nick Zinner make this a great purchase for any fan as well!

Well before the release of this solid but slender debut, the Brooklyn-based Yeah Yeah Yeahs were the subject of so much international press hype that the White Stripes were probably taking quick, nervous peeks over their shoulders. But while Fever to Tell captures a lot of what's good about the trio--mostly the caterwauling energy of their club shows--it also exposes the band's limitations. Singer Karen O is the undeniable star here, contorting her voice from a primal P.J. Harvey growl to the pre-orgasmic purr of Chrissie Hynde. Nick Zinner chops, slashes, and torpedoes his guitar around, across, and straight at O's voice, while drummer Brian Chase delivers a suitably raw trash-can thump. There are a lot of cool sounds on this 11-song, 37-minuute disc, and enough metallic-KO attitude to make a bare-chested grandpa like Iggy Pop proud. What's missing is a more varied set of fully fleshed-out songs, the kind it took the White Stripes four albums to write. Hype too early in a career can be terrible burden--ask Liz Phair or, soon enough, the Vines. Better to enjoy Fever to Tell for what it is--an uninhibited blast of garage-rock fury--without swallowing extravagant claims for a potentially great band still under construction. --Keith Moerer

Wow... I can't believe this hasn't rated higher.......2006-03-09
I think this is a really awesome cd from start to finish. Yes, I suppose if you were hoping for an entire album sounding like Maps then maybe it is a bit disappointing but the amazing energy and raw vocals make this a very sustainable orgasm of an album. I mean, I like to f*** to this. I've never heard their other material but I am so deeply impressed and turned on by this effort that I'm seeing there next show pretty soon and if they're good live i'll definately buy their other records.
Really I think this is a 4 star cd but I rated it with a 5 in hopes of bringing it up its overall rating a bit more. But check it out, it's certainly worth a listen or two.
Good edition but not good price.......2006-01-24
this album is a great upgrade from the u.s. edition but hard to follow up on price for the matter and the bonus tracks already appear on their single c.d. "date with the night" so mainly this is a backup if you can't find the single but otherwise a good album for alternative tastse maps is a solid run and hit song while date with the night is just a screech fest till mainly y control gives ou a chill (mainly from the promo video) and to top it off pin is just a bump bump bump beat track this c.d. is not a solid grunge album mainly to play on like lounge or whatever...
Y-Control... or Lost Control?.......2005-12-17
It seems as though the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have gone from super-original with "Maps," to just another rotten band, uninspired and drained of creativity. Karen O seems to have a nice, controlled voiced in "Maps" but sometimes, in her other songs, you just want to plug your ears. I don't actually have this CD, but I've heard nearly all of the songs on it and they're nothing like "Maps." Don't get me wrong, the songs are good. In particular, I like "Maps", "Date With the Night", "Rich", "Y-Control", and "Black Tongue", but like someone has already said, if you're buying this CD for "Maps" and hoping the other songs are just as good, don't buy it. I think of the other songs as a softer kind of Distillers song, if you know who the Distillers are. If you enjoy the Distillers but want something you can understand a bit better then this CD is great for you.
this rocks!.......2004-06-19
if your getting this cd just for the song "maps" and hoping the rest of the cd sounds the same, you might want to think twice.if you like pj harvey you might like this.my fav. songs are rich, black tongue, maps and y control.

Yeah!............. Right........2005-10-29
I don't really like this kind of music. I heard this song at school and had a headace for several days after. I give this 3 stars because of the beat of the song and you can dance to it and Usher can sing. The song is still popular right now and I just wish it would go away. It is over-played and im tired of it.

Customer Reviews:
Great band, great cd and the added bonus of Deja Vu.......2006-04-09
For those that already own the US version you will probably don't want to purchase this CD. While the addition of Deja Vu is a great track that is sadly missing from the US version I'm not sure that it is worth paying an additional 16 or 17 dollars for. Hopefully it will be available on a music service for 99 cents.
This one of those CD's that every song is brilliant from the first song Golden Lion to the twelveth and last song Deja Vu. It's hard for me to pick a favorite sone because they are all outstanding.
There are some songs that remind me of the band White Stripes in terms of their sound and style. Some of the vocal styling that Karen uses also reminds me of Kate Pierson of the B52's and Debbie Harry of Blondie, but by enlarge their sound is unique to them.
Karen has toned down her vocals somewhat and I think that works very well for her and the band on this CD, she has a beautiful voice. On the cut Cheated Hearts she has a very sultry sexy style that really makes the song work. Brian Chase plays the drums in a style that really lends a backbone to the songs and Nick Zinner is great on keyboards and guitar All of the songs have a nice soul and passion to them and each song has its own personality to it. The music on the CD is very well done. This is a three musician band that has that kind of eclectic style that you get with three piece band but Brian Chase, Nick Zinner and Karen O's styles mesh so well together that their sound is so much bigger then that even in their live performances. It's an amazing blend instruments timing with the occasional random sound thrown in that makes the CD so interesting to listen to.
The CD mastered and engineered in a way that really highlights the bands style.
This is the best new release that I have come across in a while in the art-avant-punk-genre.
