this is the greatest album coming from USA since Kansas´s "Leftoverture"

Product Description
World trade is layers of Yes, Saga and Starcastle. Billy Sheerwood, a parttime member of YES, is the masteridea man/songwriter of this often underrated band. The lyrics often bare resemblence to yes, still, their style remains their own. Its like someone told Yes, to get- a grip, go for it!

Since Soundgarden's lamented breakup in 1997, grunge stud Chris Cornell has been working with his longtime friends and musical peers in the band Eleven--keyboardist Natasha Shneider and guitarist Alain Johannes. These stellar musicians make Cornell's latest album crisper, more musical, and less rocky than what one came to expect from Soundgarden. The soaring "Follow My Way" is epic in scope, and, in fact, Euphoria Morning is aptly titled; the album is a cohesive mood-invoking musical meditation, especially tracks such as "When I'm Down," which has a near-gospel feel thanks to backing vocals and a spare, uplifting vibe. Fans of Cornell's mellower work with the supergroup Temple of the Dog will enjoy this ardent and mellifluous 12-song collection from one of rock's most recognizable voices. --Katherine Turman

Album Description

UK pressing of the 1999 debut solo album from Soundgarden/Audioslave vocalist Chris Cornell features one bonus track. 'Can't Change Me' (French Version). Polydor.

4 out of 5 stars Vocal talent soars.......2007-07-11

I'll admit at the outset, I'm 53 and had not listened much, if any, to Soundgarden. As a matter of fact, I didn't realize who Chris Cornell was, or is. And when I saw this in a used cd store, I gave it a spin on their player, and I was just blown away by Chris's vocal power, passion, and range. He really struck a chord in me, that I bought this and have not been sorry. I find it really enjoyable while on the cardio machines with the headphones on, making it easier to get through my 50 min. of aerobic torture.
Chris has the vocal clout to just grab your attention from the first song, and carry you on his throat to the very last song played. Oh, and he has a great band that plays lights out!!
I would recommend you buy this....NOW!

5 out of 5 stars Absolute vocal perfection........2007-07-02

If my preteen and early teenage years had had a soundtrack, it would, in the main, have comprised the work of Seattle bands. Even before hearing Soundgarden live for the first time (at Lollapalooza '92) I was already firmly convinced of Chris Cornell's status as the world's greatest vocalist. His voice carried the full force of every emotion I'd ever felt but had never been able to express; hours on end of Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog tracks were the only thing that made many of the worst days bearable.

And yet Cornell's performance on this album blows all his other work away.

If such a thing as perfect vocal performance exists, this is it. Cornell's voice carries, and evokes in the listener, a torrent of conflicting emotions in every song, and flows from the low to the high register and from a whisper to an explosion with unmatched fluency and virtuosity.

After listening to this album hundreds, if not thousands, of times, I haven't yet tired of a single track.

5 out of 5 stars Flawless Effort Both Vocally And Musically!.......2007-06-20

After the breakup of Soundgarden in 1997, working alongside his longtime friends in the band called Eleven, Chris Cornell released his solo effort entitled "Euphoria Morning" in September of 1999. "Euphoria Morning," clearly a softer and more melodic album compared to his earlier work with Soundgarden, allows for Chris's voice to reach the pinnacle of his vocal potential. All 12 tracks exude flawlessness both vocally and musically. The only negative is that his superior solo effort, "Sunshower," does not appear on the album. Nevertheless, this album is a "must have" for any rock collection. Below, please find the rating for each song individually:

Can't Change Me - 9/10

Flutter Girl - 8/10

Preaching The End Of The World - 10/10

Follow My Way - 10/10

When I'm Down - 10/10

Mission - 7/10

Wave Goodbye - 8/10

Moonchild - 10/10

Sweet Euphoria - 10/10

Disappearing One - 8/10

Pillow Of Your Bones - 10/10

Steel Rain - 10/10

5 out of 5 stars Mellower Chris.......2007-06-12

This CD is a mellower version of Chris Cornell's previous CD releases. Nothing wrong with that, since this CD is described just as such in the jacket.

I have always loved Chris's voice. He can hit a higher octave like no other!

If you are also a Chris Cornell fan , as I am, then this CD is a must in your CD library. It will round-out your collection of Chris' evolution as a singer.

But if you are looking for a heavier metal Cornell sound, then plz note that this CD is much mellower than Chris' other CDs.

I rate this CD a FIVE-STAR becuase it shows Chris' ability ( & flexibility)as a singer, as compared do his other Cds.

Tongue firmly in cheek, Def Leppard vocalist Joe Elliott once referred to his band's wildly successful anthemic hard rock as "deep and meaningless." Indeed, while peers of the Sheffield punters were scrambling to embrace successive waves of punk, new wave, alternative, and post-whatever, the Leps stayed true to their arena-rock roots and became one of the most successful, if least hyped, bands of the 1980s and early '90s. Only their 1996 album Slang bowed to market trends; its disappointing showing only spurred a return to familiar form on Euphoria. The band also brought producer and de facto sixth band member Robert "Mutt" Lange back into the fold for a trio of tracks, including "Promises," a seamless wall of hooks that outshines even the band's Pyromania and Hysteria prime. And if the Lep-Lange lineup bats only .333 (faltering on the goofy, Prince-ly funk of "All Night" and the bubble-gum pop of "It's Only Love") this inning, they redeem themselves with balladry that beats post-Diane Warren Aerosmith at their own game ("Goodbye") and enough glossy energy ("Demolition Man," "Back in Your Face," "Day After Day," "King of Oblivion") to reclaim their strange niche on the pop plateau midway between AC/DC and Abba. Though they've largely been left out of the critical debate, Def Leppard long ago established their credentials as power-pop monsters with the public. All that's left for the pundits to decide is: Def Leppard--band out of time or band for the ages? --Jerry McCulley

Euphoria rocks! Promises is the best song on this CD as is Back In Your Face, oh... every song is great! Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Def Leppard is the rockinest band............2006-09-13

Def Leppard just can't go wrong.....I am a fan, is a fan, will always be a fan. Some albums I like better than others, but I like them all.

5 out of 5 stars Would have been huge in the 80's!!.......2006-08-16

Boy I miss the 80's. This CD I felt was great. Promises, Guilty, To Be Alive and Paper Sun would all have been Top 40 hits in the 80's. Wish music could have just stayed 80's style....much better than that hip-hop junk we get force-fed with today.

4 out of 5 stars Slowed down, but still an excellent album........2006-03-30

Euphoria surprised me. When I first heard that Def Leppard had made an album in '99, I was doubtful that it would be good. I think that despite the fact that they have changed with the times, this is an excellent album.

Demolition Man: A great song that is very catchy and starts off
the album well.
Promises: A classic, and a very good intro, chorus, and solo.
Back In Your Face: A overall good song that has a catchy chorus.
Goodbye: An ok song, but it's too sappy and slow.
All Night: What happened? It's so odd, you just gotta love it.
Paper Sun: By far the best on the CD. An excellent hit song and
just one of their best.
It's Only Love: Slow, but still pretty good.
21st Century Girl: Strange, but still ok.
To Be Alive: Another slow song, and it still is good.
Disintegrate: No singing, just pure instruments. Nice.
Guilty: Definetly not best, but it's still ok.
Day After Day: Yet another slow song, but very good.
Kings of Oblivion: Good tune, weird verses.

After reviewing all the songs, I gave this album 4 stars because it is a good CD but not very great.

3 out of 5 stars I cried when I bought this album!!!.......2006-01-12

This was definitely not the direction Def Leppard should've gone in. Their previous album Slang took them in a new direction. Like it or not, it was different, edgey and simply put, much better music. After Slang didn't do as well as they'd hoped or expected, they went back to their old 80's pop style music, trying to rekindle old flames......... and it didn't work. This album to me was sort of like Adrenalize Part 2. And Adrenalize sucked (minus White Lightning and maybe Tear it Down and I Wanna Touch U)!!!
My review of this album is as follows:
1. Demolition Man: Nothing new here. Ok song, upbeat. Not bad, just not good. This is the perfect lead up to the rest of this album.
2. Promises: Very catchy tune! Good musically but the lyrics are abysmal! C'mon guys, you can do better than this! When I was 13 this would've been cool.
3.Back in Your Face: Sucks. Sort of like a Don't Shoot Shotgun/Run Riot sound but.....not!
4. Goodbye: Not horrible but just another Def Lep ballad recycled
5. All Night: Horrible
6. Paper Sun: FINALLY! Something that sounds like older bluesy Bringin on the Heartbreak/Too Late for Love edge to it. But what the hell do the lyrics mean?
7. It's Only Love: Sucks
8. 21st Cent. Shala....: Kinda catchy but ????? We've gotta work on the lyrics a little guys!
9. To Be Alive: Best ballad on cd. Not bad.
10. Disintergrate: Nice departure. Stricly instrumental. Like it
11. Guilty: Almost threw cd out of the window after I heard this one!
12. Day After Day: Best song on the CD by far!!! but.... (see Paper Sun comments)
13. Kings of Oblivion: Sounds more like something off of Slang. Not bad but too over-produced.

Believe it or not, I LOVE Def Lep; just not this version of them. Basically it's not a bad album. It's just not a good album.
Guys, if you ever by some miracle read this PLEASE, just pick up the instruments, play something, record it and stick it on a cd. STOP OVER-F*#KING-PRODUCING every album you make. And the soft overdubbed back ground vocals, i.e., Love Bites, Have you ever needed..., Guilty...... STOP IT. Go back to something real. Something more Slang meets RetroActive. Better yet, don't try to rehash anything. Just try to expand musically. Please, for the love of GOD, don't give us another Euphoria or X.
I'll give it 3 stars because of Day After Day, and a couple of catchy tunes and also because Vivian Campbell's solo's on Day After Day and Paper Sun ROCK!!! Viv and Phil's styles are easily discernable.

Euphoria make slide-groove "guitronica," blending spacey beats with looping spoken word, breathy vocals, multilayered guitar wash, and intense yet playful drum and keyboard programming. Featuring more fingerpicking and strummy noodling than their electronically centered genre sisters, Euphoria are a stylistic hybrid that works due to their low-key yet pointed adherence to aesthetics. The brief "Notting Hill Gate," for example, opens with deliciously blues-inflected fractured slide à la John Fahey and adds Dobro, ney, and swell cymbal to make something both exotic and altogether familiar. "Lost on a River" places Maddie Willis's multitracked soulful vocals at center, gorgeously complementing the unusual "orchestra" of funk guitars, Hammond B3, and acoustic bass. Elsewhere, Euphoria go all oozy with melting ambient drips of sound or forge new means of rhythmic travel (think Pell Mell) as on the beautifully orchestrated closer "The Road," featuring reverberating and chiming guitar work, harmonica, shattered key and drum accents, and brilliantly utilized bagpipes. --Paige La Grone

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Avant garde for the masses.......2003-01-21

Euphoria manages to be approachable at the same time as being avant garde, which is no small feat! The music is tranquil and refreshing, and while the genre is totally unidentifiable (another review referred to it as "guitronica"), listeners to pop, jazz, techno-trance, and country will all find something vaguely familiar in the tunes here. Think Enigma in a horrible transporter accident with David Lanz, George Harrison, and Union Station. What strikes this reviewer most is that some tracks are more jazzy, some more pop, and some more trance, yet the album stands as a cohesively unified whole.

Most of the tracks rely entirely on their instrumentation (which is quite well produced, balanced, and mixed by the able hands of Tom Elmhirst and Garry Hughes) but the occasional insertion of some beautiful female vocals from Maddie Willis, Julie Galiatsos, Juliet Roberts and Michaela Harrison adds to the euphonia of the experience. A number of subtle string arrangements are provided by Anne Dudley, who composed the soundtracks to "Buster," "Pushing Tin," and "The Full Monty."

Rush fans will be amused by the guest appearance of Geddy Lee (on keyboards and bass) on the final track ("The Road"). He also produced the second track, "Is This Heaven?," in his Toronto studio.

The busyness of some of the drum tracks may make "Delerium" unsuitable as background music for a dinner party (although, ironically, the current reviewer did decide to purchase it over a somewhat unorthodox Italian dinner), but for personal listening, meditation, and inspiration, it's difficult to beat sound like this.

Like many people in northern California, this reviewer has been hooked on the opening track of this album ever since the first time he heard it. But given the limited exposure it had on the radio, you're probably reading this because a friend mentioned it to you. Take your friend's advice, listen to the samples on a couple of the tracks here, and dive in to a pool of sound, crystal clear.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is magic.......2002-03-15

Sensuous and melodic. This CD is an incredible blending of genres that will take you on a whimsical journey. Euphoria has managed to capture the best aspects of many different flavors of music and make a cohesive blend that seems magical. For anyone with a passion for music this CD is a must.

    5 out of 5 stars Vanilla Sky.......2001-12-07

It was a pleasant surprise to hear "Delirium ", the opening track of this album, being used to promote the new Cameron Crowe film "Vanilla Sky" . I really like this song and its cool when I hear it used in stuff like Malcolm in the Middle, & Rosewell . I've heard other songs used as well , like "Is This Heaven" in the Wayne Wang movie "The Centre of the World".

This is a high quality album that has obviously attracted some of the best of the film and tv world .It deserves to be included in anybody's album collection.

4 out of 5 stars Another fine release from San Francisco label Six Degrees.......2001-10-04

"The album was originally intended as an exploration of dreams," says Ken Ramm, Toronto-based guitarist and the brains behind the Euphoria project. The subtle use of vocals - soulful voices drift in and out - does give Euphoria a hypnotic, trip-hop quality. But the signature sound of Euphoria is the slide guitar. Inspired by the way Pink Floyd used the slide guitar to create "a real expressive, emotional quality", Euphoria brings a uniquely guitar-driven twist to downtempo electronica.

Recorded in London, Ken Ramm plays many of the guitar parts himself but is joined by the legendary B.J. Cole on pedal steel guitars to add a more atmospheric, electric texture. Other musicians lending a hand include Anne Dudley of Art of Noise, ex-Soft Machine bassist Roy Babbington, and Rush bassist Geddy Lee. Live vocal contributions come from Maddie Willis and gospel singer Juliette Roberts (on the excellent "Lost on a River").

It is not all swirling guitar harmonies and layers of slide guitar though. Other instruments include the Arab ney flute, the Bulgarian kaval flute, harmonica and bagpipes. The intricate and richly textured songs dip into ambient groove, world music, trip hop, blues, psychedelic rock, drum & bass. This unlikely mix of styles and instruments work surprisingly well and results in a distinctive and memorable sound. A beautiful and inspirational CD.

    5 out of 5 stars I love this CD..........2000-10-03

I am no critic, but I have to say I also bought this CD on a whim after hearing one song on the radio. This is the most interesting relaxing CD I have purchased in a long time and is one of my favorites.

Fans of Euphoria's earlier semi-chilled CDs of ambient Americana might be taken aback by the nasty blues snarl of "Back Against the Wall," the opening track of this third Euphoria CD. Sounding like the J. Geils Band circa 1975, guitarist Ken Ramm unleashes a backsliding electric blues scrawl over a crushing four-on-the-floor groove and doesn't let up until Howard Levy drops in with some gut-bucket harmonica. Since their semi-hit "Delirium" on the first CD, Euphoria has traded on an organic brand of electronica, picking up on Moby's rustic roots sampling ethos. But instead of samples, Euphoria boasted the real guitar playing of Ramm. On Precious Time, he dials up some changes, with Steve Sidelynk (Madonna, Massive Attack) mixing live drums with the programmed rhythms for an even more organic sound. In addition, vocalists top out several tunes. Tina Dico, who has sung with Zero 7, adds a sophisticated yearning cadence to the song called "Blue," and her "Sinners and Saints" is a strong bid for a pop single. Tracy Bonham brings her soulful voice to the mournful, yet still propulsive, title track. But most of Precious Time is instrumental, with "Cowboys" and "The Getaway" returning to the more countrified electronica of earlier CDs. Euphoria is still an exploration in sound, even at their most pop. Ramm mixes fingerstyle guitar with Indian tabla drums and vocal percussion on the aforementioned "Blue," and goes purely acoustic on the solo 12-string-guitar idyll, "The Glendale Train." "Vapor," an impressionistic 10-minute excursion composed with Brian Eno's Oblique Strategy cards, is an odd closer for an album that otherwise relentlessly lives up to the Euphoria name and promise. --John Diliberto

    Album Description

The music Euphoria makes is truly unique: lush, sweeping soundscapes which blend acoustic and slide guitars with modern electronica and trip-hop to create a sound that has been dubbed "guitronica." Euphoria's music has struck a chord with listeners over their first two albums, earning radio chart success and garnering placements in TV commercials for Nissan, Lee Jeans, and Apple (iPod), films such as "Vanilla Sky" and "Hidalgo" and television shows such as "CSI," "Malcolm in the Middle" and "Roswell." The third Euphoria album is the strongest yet, filled with an energized blend of slide guitar and psychedelia as well as stunning vocal tracks featuring Tina Dico (Zero 7) and Tracy Bonham. With this release Euphoria is poised to become a household name among guitar aficionados and electronic music lovers alike.

4 out of 5 stars Synths and Blues guitar actually sound pretty good together........2006-11-14

The fundamental song-type from which the album is built is a 3-5 minute instrumental, featuring gritty slide guitar reinforced by heavily-produced drums and a strong synthesized bass line. "Cowboys" is my favorite of these. While this is a really cool sound, one song at a time is enough. It seems that producer Ken Ramm knows this, since two of this type are never placed consecutively on the album.

Among the more varied fare are "The Glendale Train," an acoustic guitar solo, and "The Getaway," which is reminiscent of Massive Attack. "Blue" and "Saints and Sinners," featuring guest-vocalist Tina Dico, and "Anyone Can Lose," featuring guest-vocalist Tracy Bonham, would be at home on Balligomingo's Beneath the Surface or Conjure One's Extraordinary Ways with their electronic foundation and supporting guitars. The title track, "Precious Time" (another Tracy Bonham contribution), would unfortunately fit more comfortably among the song's of Delerium's Poem. The final song, "Vapor", is a long (over ten minutes) atmospheric experiment that reminds me of the Donnie Darko soundtrack, with a synthesizer drone and what I'm guessing is a guitar track played back in reverse. Apparently, "Vapor" is the result of an Brian Eno-style Oblique Strategy session (look that up if you don't know what it means - its an interesting concept).

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Breadth, Style and Substance .......2006-10-29

I bought this CD after hearing "Back Against the Wall" on KCRW a few months ago--the nasty guitar riffs set to electronic beats intrigued me. But over time, what has emerged from many listens--and what still stands out for me--is my impression of how rich this record actually is--contributions from Tracy Thorne ("Anyone Can Lose") to Tina Dico (the amazing "Blue"), tracks that traverse very different worlds, the record is quite an amazing blend of style, guitar, and moods--it has very easily made it into my 'Top Five' of 2006, a feat considering how much music passes through my ears annually. It's also a fabulous listen with the top down. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars One hell of an ecclectic mix.......2006-09-06

For starters let's just say this. My musical tastes go all over the spectrum. I purchased this CD along with a King Crimson disc from 1982 and once upon a time I wrote jazz and blues reviews for a small, local paper.
So what got me onto Euphoria? I haven't really been listening to the radio for several years now. Just too much junk out there that gets too much airplay. "Bovine bands" I call them. They're good because everyone else says they are. Just like TV - most people really can't think for themselves.
So I'm actually LISTENING to the radio a few weeks ago and hear Back Against the Wall on WXRT out of Chicago. The "bluesy" feel of the song grabs my attention so I get home and check out the samples on Amazon. Wow! 30 second samples and they all sound good! Reckon I gotta get it so I do.
A wonderful CD! Can't say what category you'd put this band into and that's half the beauty. Shades of blues, jazz, country, new age and more.
I'm not big on vocals but Tina Dico and Tracy Bonham lend themselves to the music superbly!
I can't honesly say that I could listen to all of their CDs in a row from what I've heard as it does start to mesh together but the music is VERY refreshing. It IS an excellent change of pace and I hope this band does well without going "commercial". In other words don't go "bovine". This world needs a lot more original bands and there are so few out there.
Close your minds to the "popular" stuff and listen to artists. Who cares what everyone else thinks? After all, if I jumped off a cliff with a "hit" CD in hand would you do the same?
Open your mind to real music. Buy this CD.

3 out of 5 stars caught my ear.......2006-07-06

nice intro of instrumental sound, blended with the vocals, but wishing for more variety. still a nice listening for wishing to just be laid back and relaxing for the afternoon.

5 out of 5 stars Conjures Texas of fantasy.......2006-05-25

Having grown up in Texas, I have a static image of this state, one shaped by its cities and suburbs which are much like the cities and suburbs you find anywhere but with more barbeque restaurants and Tejano music. Living now outside of Texas, I am also familiar with the Texas of popular imagination, filled with cowboys, Cadillacs, and people like President Bush (for better or worse).

Popping this CD into the player conjures up an image of Texas entirely different from the other two. And in particular, I'm referring to the tracks featuring slide guitar prominently: #1, 3, 5, 6, and 10. I've never been on Highway 90 which goes through West Texas about 50 miles north of the border with Mexico, but I imagine these tracks might make a perfect travelling companion for a drive out there at sunset. You can almost smell the dust being kicked up.

Personally I find the other tracks to be more standard-fare, but at least they're done with high production values. On another CD they might be perfect, but following the aforementioned tracks, they rift the mood, like someone pulled the curtain back on my drive out in West Texas.

Overall, good stuff. If you like this CD, you might also want to check out CDs from the group Lanterna, such as the CD Sands.

5 out of 5 stars Best Anthrax Release, Don't Listen to the Haters.......2007-05-14

I own all the Belladonna years material (don't bother with the John Bush stuff). I really don't understand why the fans dog this album. This album showed their serious side, but also retained their goofiness. Perfect balance. It boggles my mind that everyone is trashing the song '13'. It's a quick little fun instrumental ditty, but people treat it like Anthrax was going for something big with it. If you're new to Anthrax I'd say pick up this one and Spreading the Disease first. Disease has bad production, though, so I'd say get this one first. Among the Living is far overrated.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad at all.......2006-05-09

Many grief that this is Anthrax's worst album. For the record, I agree but its not so bad that its stands out being total [...]. While most of the songs are average at best, Finale and Be All, End All are very enjoyable. Music of complexity and I like that.

    5 out of 5 stars I Love Anthrax.......2006-02-27

I bought State Of Euphoria the night of FuMaR's inevitable last show. When I popped that sucker in, I was instantly hooked by that awesome cello intro on Be All, End All. That celloist, without a doubt, must be on the top 10 list or something, it is that good. Anyway, Anthrax's SOE is my favorite album by them or anybody, and it will remain so for years to come. I will give you a rundown of all 10 amazing tracks right now.

Be All, End All - A catchy tune that will leave you begging for more cello.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind - This song proves that Scott Ian is metals worst, and yet best, rythm guitarist out there.

Make me Laugh - my second least favorite track on SOE

Antisocial - my least favorite track on SOE

Who Cares Wins - this song contains Dan Spitz's best solo in his entire career, I am listening to it right now and it is good.

Now It's Dark - Incredible. This song has an outright addictive shout-a-long chorus and a sort of off tempo verse.

Schism - my favorite song on this Cd and by Anthrax in general. Spitz's breaks out the arsenal on this one.

Misery Loves Company - This song showcases Charlie Benante's best drumming performance in Anthrax. He really knows how to use a china.

13 - A funny little break from the madness until...

Finale - Anthrax's best closer to date. Scott Ian craps it up with the best rythm in the land. Guitar virtuoso Spitz's whips up some big cheese. Charlie pounds his bass drum of doom. Frank Bello thumps his bottom of steel. Joe Belladonna tears his vocal chords of chasmatic chaos. I love Anthrax.

In short - This is Anthrax's BEST album. If anyone wants to talk about how bad it is compared to Among The Living, I dare you to listen to this album twice for everytime you listen to ATL. This is Dan Spitz's and Charlie Benante's best musicianship ever and I love it. Over, finished, gone, done, out.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Anthrax!!!.......2005-11-08

This is my favorite Anthrax album, EVER!! The song writing is catchy, with great inner-song changeups and progressions! I am baffled by the negative reviews of this album. I will never forget buying this tape on a choir trip in 6th grade (1988) and listening to it with my walkman on the buss. I bought it because I liked the album cover (lol) and had heard from older friends that Anthrax was heavy, thrash metal style (I was like 10 or 11 years old). The experience changed my life! I remember riding through the Tennessee mountains listening to State of Euphoria, absolutely mesmerized. Get it!!!

    4 out of 5 stars a dip in form..........2005-06-04

Hmmm what can I say about STATE OF EUPHORIA? That it is an awesome metal album for starters. It is the only dip in Anthrax's Belladonna career. 1987's AMONG THE LIVING was incredible, and it's last song 'Imitation Of Life', was the final great cry from one of metals greatest vocalists, Joey Belladonna. This album sees none of his amazing high pitched screams, and in fact vocally is a muted affair. Production is also a bit shabby, as is the song writing. But, if you took this album on its own and didnt hear other Anthrax, its still great metal. Highlighs are....

    1. BE ALL, END ALL - Great opener, with a violin beginning which becomes a crunching riff. Great chorus too. Its only let down is it's production? WHY IS IT SO SHABBY!?

2.OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND - Another great song, but below par from previous albums. What many bands forget is how important the second track is, and again the sound and feel let another great song down.

4.ANTI-SOCIAL - Written by Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrains' old band TRUST, this is a great song with a more punchy sound than all the other tracks. The obvious radio choice, and the only hit single off the album, this is a clear standout and an Anthrax anthem.

10.FINALE - Lame previous track '13' builds into this great track, which again could have done with some more punchy production. Great chorus, and what could have been a great closer.

13 sucks, but the rest of the album rules. Its not as bad as it is percieved to be, but yes a great let-down from Among The Living and Spreading The Disease.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Work Music.......2007-04-19

I thoroughly enjoy ambient techno (especially any that uses the tabla drum) when I am trying to concentrate on difficult problems or reports. This album has an amazing mix of different artists that come together seamlessly to relax my mind and focus my thoughts. I highly recommend it for any college student or over-worked cube monkey (like me)!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro to the World of Six Degrees .......2005-08-08

I love finding great comps like this one. The variety keeps things interesting and it's a great way to get turned on to new artists. Even if you don't find every track appealing, chances are you'll find much else to love if you like international flavors and have a sense of adventure.

For me, the most thrilling discovery I've made through this CD is dZihan & Kamien. Their modern take on Latin-jazz found on "Stiff Jazz" is at once relaxing and thrilling and I love the electronic touches. Some time ago, I fell in love with a certain David Bowie track called "South Horizon" from his BHUDDA OF SUBURBIA CD (see my review if interested). It's basically an excellent jazz track with techno elements mixed in. Since then I've been on the lookout for innovative variations on jazz that incorporate electronica, trip-hop, etc. If you have any suggestions for this kind of music, please get my e-address from my home page and drop me a line.

Other highlights: practically every track here is a highlight! There are other great examples of original, Latin-flavored jazz like "Lenu" by Bobi Cespedes with some stellar trumpet, vibes and fantastic drums. There's also some wild turntable action on this track that works amazingly well. The Michael Franti & Spearhead track is smooth and wonderful with a positive message. I also love the East Indian club track by MIDIval PunditZ and the Karsh Kale cut is epic and beautiful, love all those tablas.

If you're new to 6 DEGREES I would highly recommend getting this sampler. It's a great way to expand your musical horizons.

5 out of 5 stars ear popping smorgasbord.......2004-04-10

I came to this collection in search of the track "Delirium" by Euphoria, which, with its slick guitar work, is an innovative invitation to the rest of the album. While originally intent on finding more Asian electronica, this international collection has an amazing array of gems, ranging from the sultry "Stay Human" and "So Nice (Summer Samba)" to the perky "Stiff Jazz" and "Bhangra Fever." Karsh Kale's "Milan" rounds out the collection. By the end of the collection, I feel as though I have taken a trip around the world, sampling a wide assortment of music from the four corners. Music for mutliple moods will be found here. It's also a great introduction to new artists that you may not have come across before. Having heard this collection, I'm on the search for more by Euphoria, Wally Brill, and Karsh Kale. I would also really be interested in hearing more of the Six Degrees albums. This is a great testament to the quality of the work of the label.

This set is amazing! All three discs have awesome tracks. Honestly, I can't pick my favorite disc. The Brisk & Ham and Dougal & Gammer discs are both positively awesome! Sy & Unknown is still good too. Lots of great vocals and lots of hard beats! Bottom line, you won't be disappointed!

"The Drowning Man Knows His God" is a song title that immediately lets you in on just what kind of nouveau surf band the Mermen are: a strange, mysterious one best approached with caution. Guitarist Jim Thomas picks up the gauntlet thrown down by thrash master Dick Dale, in turn tossing it into realms of overamped sound generally occupied only by the likes of Neil Young, Sonic Youth, and Glenn Branca. On A Glorious Lethal Euphoria, Thomas eschews the feel-good for excursions into riff wreckage ("Pulpin' Line") and lengthy wavescapes that crash over the living room ("Obsession for Men"). Add a wry nod to the Gilligan's Island theme on "The Intractable Boy" and a passage from Brahms's Third Symphony, and you've got one that not even Brian Wilson would have thought up. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Love at first riff.......2006-03-13

My first encounter with The Mermen came from my boyfriend's collection. I immediately fell in love with the first song and knew I would appreciate the complexities of the all-instrumental, surf-rock music. The guitar riffs and the strong, meaty drumming consistently evolved into another emotion; which is what music is all about.

      5 out of 5 stars don't be a chump, just buy it.......2005-09-16

there is no excuse for anyone who likes the sound of guitar not to own and cherish this ablum. i HATE guitar players and the crap that comes out of their guitars most of the time. i am IN AWE of the sounds that flows from Jim's bright red strat. this is purely amazing work. one of the BEST ALBUMS I've EVER HEARD. it hurts to listen to this sometimes... it's just that good. amazing drumming bass and guitar. the tones in this album rock you to sleep then tear your eyes out. DYNAMIC. thank you for such a wonderful album, mermen. THANK YOU!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Beyond amazing. To listen to this album is to reach euphoria.......2002-10-23

I cannot possibly describe how much I love this album. Every emotion we harbor... this album gets to them all. The tones are euphoric, the melodys are enthralling... it's the perfect CD. Any true music lover should love this CD.

      5 out of 5 stars brilliant.......2002-01-05

While at first I didn't really think this sounded like a surf album (when I think surf I think Dick Dale), and I still really don't think so though with the amount of reverb on the guitar I guess one could say so - its still hypnotic in its appeal. If it is surf , it transcends the genre. The bassist for the band is to be quite blunt, amazing. The album's full of really crazy songscapes that are soothing and sublime and drenched in reverb and melody. If you like music get this album. It's the only thing from a rock band that I can still bear to listen to.

      5 out of 5 stars Very Challenging--near death-like in its intensity.......2001-06-21

The 1st time I listened to this CD--I frankly did not know what to think. I was a fan of previous releases, Krill Slippin' and Food For Other Fish--but this was quite a departure, melodically, rhythmically, texturally, thematically, and I had to get my mind around the fact that this band had morphed into something else again. There is no question that this music is ecstatic, it reminds me very much of a close encounter with death--like being rolled under a 100 foot wave for 4 minutes while trying to hold your breath. But it requires some faith and commitment on the part of the listener, to open the mind and surrender ones expectations--if you can do that, perhaps you will discover that the Mermen have redefined everything we previously thought of as psychedelic music. Surfing, in this context, is a metaphor for something more than riding waves of water--this is more like riding the waves of the electromagnetic spectrum.
