The greatest b-sides ever to grace this fine planet........2006-09-17

Let me start by saying that Genepool Convulsions is the best modern punk rock song of the past five years. It has everything neccesary to blow your face off one atom at a time. Sharp, jagged guitar riffs abound, managing to sound like evolution; primal yet advanced beyond the average man's understanding. The words are deep and thoughtful, yet witty in their multiple syllable nature. The track even incorporates one of The Hives' signature bass solos to provoke the life-changing rising action that they've become so known for.

Keel Hauling Class Of 89' is a glorious anti-collegiate anthem, pushing itself forward on a Devo based b-movie type chord, which moves beyond this self-proclaimed reviewers' musically descriptive vocabulary. The first listen may render a confusion, wondering what's so great about this tune; but as soon as the song stops playing you'll find yourself whispering the words "THE KEEL HAULING CLASS OF 89'" to yourself, and you'll listen to it over and over, finding it better and better until it's bumped up to the top of your list of favorite songs ever, behind only Genepool Convulsions.

And the title track is no slouch either. Creeping yet pounding along, shoving itself into your head one howled verse at a time, with a chorus changing your views on what a chorus should be. A pop song to end all pop songs, and by a punk rock group, no less. You'll find yourself so immersed in this jam that you might yell "yeah"s and "oh"s in the background, mimicking the glorious backgrounded howls of Nicholaus Arson and Vigilante Carlstroem. Oh, and don't expect that bass line to leave your head any time soon.

Please support this band; the Swedish saviors of all that is Punk, Rock, Roll, and Soul. The Hives will not let you down, especially once you get hooked... and if you're not hooked, this is a great starting point... but don't say I didn't warn you.

This is pretty good stuff. Walk Idiot Walk is the best song of the 3 by faaaaar. The b-sides are just that, b-sides. not all that good. in fact the tag/hook lines in each of the b-sides get annoying after a few listens.

this is good to buy if you can't wait for the new album to hear some new hives, but not worth buying after the album comes out. you can see the video for free at mtv.com or on the hives website.

I may be in the minority here, but I almost think the B-Sides outshine the single ! They're easily just as good, anyway. I prefer "Keel-Hauling Class of 89", due to some awesome production and catchiness.

But then again, "Genepool Convulsions" has a very catchy "mommy mommy, daddy daddy" chorus, so its a tough call. I'm on my way out the door to buy this right now, and I thik you should all do the same.

BTW - I've heard the album, and it rocks, though i wish these B-Sides were on it too : ( Ah well, theres always the import !

After seeing the video for "Walk Idiot Walk" on FUSE last night, I had to go out and get a copy of the single right away since the new album isn't out yet. It's worth picking up for the 2 B-sides and the music video which is one of their best. Check it out...
