Cy Coleman and David Zippel's City of Angels is a seductive depiction of 1940s Los Angeles, capturing swinging jazz, torchy ballads, witty lyrics, and even a Manhattan Transfer-like Greek chorus (arranged by ManTran guru Yaron Gershovsky). James Naughton and Gregg Edelman star as Stone and Stine, respectively a tough Raymond Chandleresque PI and the writer who dreams up his adventures. Randy Graff plays Stone's long-suffering secretary and Dee Hoty the requisite femme fatale. Loads of atmosphere and tasty songs such as "What You Don't Know About Women," "With Every Breath I Take," "You're Nothing Without Me," and "You Can Always Count on Me" make City of Angels a modern classic. It won 1990 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Leading Actor (Naughton), Featured Actress (Graff), Best Book (Larry Gelbart), and Best Original Score. --David Horiuchi

3 out of 5 stars Fun Show, Average Score.......2007-02-21

Fun show, ingenuos concept, so-so score, with one exception. The ballad With Every Breath I Take is brilliant. One of Coleman's best pieces.

5 out of 5 stars Cleverness personified.......2006-10-16

A duet between an author and the character he created, each claiming "you're nothing without me," is just one example of how sharp, witty and clever show is, with an unusual score, jazzy and bluesy and very 1940s, and some of the best lyrics I know.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Jazz Musical That's FUN!!!.......2006-04-14

City of Angels is an incredibly fun, classy, and jazzy musical that delivers. Stellar vocal performances are provided by the entire cast, particularly the female end. The fact that Randy Graff was the only female from this cast nominated at the Tony Awards that year floors me. Kay McClelland and Rachel York deserved nods for their powerful solos, With Every Breath I Take and Lost Found, alone. These two songs are also the type of sultry, jazz solos that one would expect in the 40's, which is why the show works. The music is completely period with when the show takes place, and that's why I love it. The best tracks are:

3) What You Don't Know About Women
6) With Every Breath I Take (destined to be a classic)
9) Lost and Found (wonderful solo)
10) All You Have To Do Is Wait (FUN! FUN! FUN SONG!!! Hilarious as well)
11) You're Nothing Without Me
13) You Can Always Count On Me (Randy Graff's Tony!)

4 out of 5 stars Great Jazz-Oriented Score.......2005-06-25

1990 Tony winner for Best Musical, "City Of Angels" contains a great score, filled with jazz-oriented melodies & torch songs. Not all the songs are terrific, but most of the score lends itself to repeat listenings. Best tracks include:

Double Talk
What You Don't Know About Women
With Every Breath I Take [beautiful song!]
Lost And Found
You're Nothing Without Me [the show's hit]
You Can Always Count On Me
Funny

Great cast ... great buy!

5 out of 5 stars I love it!.......2005-02-22

This is one of my favorite soundtracks ever! Since I'm going to be working on music for the show, I'm happy that this is the case. It has been in my CD player for a few weeks now, and there's enough variety for it not to get old. But having read through the script makes the lyrics infinitely wittier. Musicals are supposed to rely partially on the lyrics and partially on the script. This show does that perfectly. Without the script, the lyrics are (apparently) lacking. But without the lyrics, the script is missing something. When you put the two pieces together, however, it's really easy to see why this show won a Tony.

Inspired by the astoundingly popular The Three Tenors series, Broadway director Marion J. Caffey conceived and directed Three Mo' Tenors, bringing greater visibility to the classically trained African American voice. Starring seasoned tenors Roderick Dixon, Thomas Young, and Victor Trent Cook, Three Mo' Tenors is a theatrically staged concert set taped for public television's Great Performances. A companion to the taped show, the disc features just over an hour of live music from it. The phenomenal showmanship of Dixon, Young, and Trent Cook takes shape in the styles of opera, Broadway, blues, jazz, soul, spirituals, and gospel. The three virtuosos hit high C's with clarity and brilliance; scat with grace and grit; belt, bend and hold a note to beat the band. They move the audience to a state of near-ecstasy performing the traditional "Were You There (When They Crucified My Lord)" and Puccini's glorious "Nessum Dorma." Other standouts include the jazz classic "Twisted," a rollicking version of "Today I Sing the Blues," and the salty "Minnie the Moocher." Boisterous, bold, and bountiful, Three Mo' Tenors is a modern classic. --Paige LaGrone

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Bravo! Mo' Mo' Mo'.......2006-05-13

The word "Mo'" in the title got my attention. I bought the CD to compare it to the already popular "Three Tenors" (Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras). Wow! Was I surprised. I had expected an all opera, classical and possibly spiritual repetoire. But, the music varies from "Nessun Dorma" to "Love Train" was truly, truly delightful. I enjoyed the wonderful voices of Thomas Young, Roderick Dixon, and Victor Trent Cook and the variety of musical selections so much that I purchased several other copies for my family and friends. Then, several months later, I saw their performance on PBS. I immediately ordered the VHS offered by the TV station, paying way, way over the retail price. But, I had to have it. It was, and is, the most exciting musical performance that I have seen. Later, when I put the tape into the player at my son's house, my 5-year-old granddaughter Ciara stood next to the sofa to watch. I expected her to move away soon, but, she stood there, during the entire playback of the performance, and I do mean from beginning to end. I left the tape there so that son could see it later. The following day, and for most days during the next several weeks, Ciara asked to have the tape played, until she later was taught to handle it herself. The family has since replaced my VHS with the DVD so that now, when Ciara visits me, we can watch the show again (and again). "Three Mo' Tenors" was so surprisingly wonderful- with great voices, charismatic personalities, terrific orchestral arrangements, lively and precisely choreographed routines, and just an overall feeling of mutual admiration and respect among the three gentlemen. The beautiful cinematics, with frequently interspersed shots of the enthusiatic audience, contributes to the feeling that I am actually there at the concert. Every time I watch it, I see and hear something new. When I first heard the CD, I was not fascinated by the countertenor voice. After seeing Victor Trent Cook's heartwarming performance on the DVD, and hearing his comment about his mother's definition of a countertenor, I have been granted a new appreciation for his voice. Here it is, years later, and I'm still enamored, remembering Roderick Dixon's "Make Them Hear You" elicits tears, Thomas Young's "Twisted" makes me laugh, and the duet with Victor and Thomas (see, I'm now on first-name basis with them) is so beautiful. I could to on and on. In fact, it's time for another listen.

5 out of 5 stars This is a must have for any music lover!.......2006-01-07

I would rate this CD more than five stars if I could! I picked up this CD not knowing anything about these guys, but, knowing that I liked some of the songs contained on it. I was absolutely blown away by this collection! These guys have it all. Voices, talent, showmanship, style, technique, etc. Everytime I listen to it, I feel like I'm sitting right there in the theatre. I am a huge fan of opera, jazz and gospel. This CD covers it all! Although my favorite tracks are La Donna e Mobile, Make Them Hear You, and Nessun Dorma, they are all so good! I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again. You have to hear them to believe them!

5 out of 5 stars wonderful collection of music.......2005-08-23

A good album is one that can't be categorized neatly. Three Mo' Tenors tackles classic opera, Broadway tunes and other genres with ease. They have beautiful voices, and the music they choose to interpret is so universal that even my toddler girl loves listening to it! Their technical expertise combined with their stage presence and charisma makes for an enjoyable cd. Highly recommended - especially if you are looking to introduce yourself or your children to different musical genres.

5 out of 5 stars awesome music selection.......2005-08-02

These are amazing musical selections and amazing vocalists; a must-have for any well-rounded music collection. This trio can really sing!

4 out of 5 stars They Left Out The Best Song.......2004-11-11

One of my most favorite performance DVD's, but how, or why, on earth did they leave off the most stiring single number on the CD - "A Song For You," by Rodrick Dixon?

Put it in, and it's a "five."

Album Description

The first ever collection of recordings by one of the founding members of Motown legends The Supremes. 18 tracks that were unearthed from the Motown/ABC vaults & are issued here for the first time. Tracks, 'Like You Babe', 'Yesterday', 'Yours Until Tomorrow', 'It's Not Unusual', 'Impossible Dream', 'It Doesn't Matter How I Say It', 'Let's Stay In Love', 'Walk On By', 'Going Out Of My Head', 'Sweetness', 'Everything Wonderful', 'Love Ain't Love', 'Forever Faithful', 'My Heart', 'Buttered Popcorn', 'Ain't That Good News', 'Hey Baby' & 'Heavenly Father'. 2001 release.

Album Details

Arguably the best singer of the Supremes, the late Florence Ballard's talents were eclipsed by someone else in the group. This collection takes her to the forefront on all the tracks that show she could have been something a lot bigger than most would give her credit for in her time.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars The Original Dreamgirl.......2007-03-29

The Supreme Florence Ballard: 18 Essential Original Recordings, is 14 tracks from the 1968 recording sessions with ABC Records for a scheduled album, with the working title, You Don't Have To, with selections 15-18 - Buttered Popcorn, Ain't That Good News, Hey Baby & Heavenly Father - featuring Ballard as lead vocalist for the Supremes.

The way the collection is put together is dubious at best, since it's the pull of the Supremes/Motown Records which may draw fans to the CD and not the tracks slated for Ballard's solo debut.

There is some irony with the inclusion of the Motown Records' selections, since Ballard - as part of a settlement with the company that was finalized in early-1968 and included a cash payout of nearly $140,000 - was forbidden to ever mention that she was a member of the Supremes.

In 1968, ABC Records released only two singles - It Doesn't Matter How I Say It (It's What I Say That Matters)/Goin' out of My Head and Love Ain't Love/Forever Faithful - and put the remaining songs in the proverbial vault, though Ballard had a 2-year recording deal with the label.

Like You Babe has a solid, rock sound and is arguably as strong as the pair of A-sides that were issued, but drew minimal radio play and - because of that - little fan interest.

The remaining nine selections are of varying quality, with the arrangements a venerable hodge-podge, almost like an audition tape for a new artist attempting to sign a deal, not for a famous vocalist from one of the hottest groups of that time.

There has been bootleg copies of the "album" available for many years and even the recordings of the studio rehearsals & alternate takes were floating around for the most curious of fans who were willing to do a little searching.

It would have been a better release if the 14 cuts, rehearsals and alternate takes had been packaged together to give the listener a more complete picture of Ballard in her brief time with the label.

Ballard was not given the time or real quality material to succeed as a solo artist. The reasons are many - and there were plenty of rumors then that Motown Records may have played a major role - but Ballard deserved better.

5 out of 5 stars Fallen Star..........2007-03-08

This is a great CD and Florence Ballard could have very easily replaced Diana Ross when she left the Supremes and held her own. She has a really, beautiful, thick voice that just mellows you out when you listen to it. It's like you have to stop in mid-track whatever you're doing, to give her your undivided attention. Her voice almost puts you in a trance.

However, her voice does sound kind of sad, she has a pain in her voice similar to Billie Holliday's. The last few tracks are songs that she led while she was still with the Supremes and you can hear the difference in her voice. She sounds much happier and bouncy on the Supremes tracks than she does on the tracks she sang alone. Bless her heart, she really did try to pick up the shattered pieces and make a new start.

This album didn't go anywhere because Florence wasn't allowed to be identified as a former Supreme (this was part of her departure agreement). Because so much attention was given to another member of the group, the public probably didn't even know her name or Mary's name for that matter. Also the ABC label didn't have a "Black" division in their department so they really didn't promote it. I also believe the Detroit radio stations refused to play it because they were completely behind Motown all the way.

This is a good CD but it's kind of sad to listen to. It's melancholy, bittersweet. It makes you thankful that someone finally released this album, but it also makes you sad to think about what could have been, how far she really could have gone.

If you want to hear how well 'Ms. Blondie' could sing, this CD is for you. Ms. Ross wasn't the only one in the group with talent, Mary and Florence just never did get their chance to shine. This CD finally gives Florence that chance. Enjoy!

2 out of 5 stars Oh, so disappointing..........2007-02-22

After reading for many years about Ballard's big voice and the suppression of her talents as a backup singer for Ms. Ross, I had high expectations for this disc, even after reading the reviews that all mentioned sub-standard material. It is true, with the exception of two tracks slated as singles, the material is either uninspired or inappropriate ("The Impossible Dream"? Come on!). However, I was unprepared for the lack of fire, intensity, charisma, "star quality," call it what you will, in Ballard's singing. Frankly, her vocal abilities, as displayed on the (wisely) unreleased tracks from her aborted solo album, are best suited to backup work. Perhaps it was her well-documented depression, or problems with substance abuse, that resulted in these lackluster performances. If you, like me, are expecting to hear a voice that was a cross between Aretha and LaVern Baker, you will be sorely disappointed. Ballard's cover of Edna McGriff's "Heavenly Father" can't hold a candle to the original - another poor A&R decision, enabling us to make a direct comparison with a truly superb and underrated singer (seek out the McGriff import compilation while it is available). For Supremes completists only.

4 out of 5 stars The right Songs.......2007-01-29

The music ABC gave her was not the best. Listening to the tracks on this CD, I think with "Ain't that Good News" and "Buttered Popcorn" on a single she would have had a hit!

5 out of 5 stars History in Lyrics.......2007-01-10

I greatly enjoyed this score. The songs gave a broad perspective of human feeling in that awful time and some of the lyrics break your heart. I wish I could have seen the play and, when I told a friend (who is somewhat of a history buff) about it, she wanted to know if there was a video! Unfortunately, there is not. Thanks for a great experience.

5 out of 5 stars Great show Great songs.......2006-08-09

Saw the show under the new name of for the glory in gettysburg..some of the stars that did the cd was in the gettysburg show....It was a great show...and the songs were great

5 out of 5 stars OMG AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.......2006-07-20

I saw this amazing show while in Gettysburg where it is now called FOR THE GLORY and believe me they need to put this back on broadway! The music is so moving yet its so modern it really catches the younger crowd. Getting this cd just brings me back to the theatre where I experienced this awesome musical!

5 out of 5 stars VERY powerful.......2006-06-23

I saw this in NYC. I have this on CD and on my iPod. This is the most powerful album I ever heard. This album really communicates the pain everyone felt during the Civil War. Hootie and the Blowfish's song, "Freedom's Child", sounds like a rallying cry for all black people living in that difficult time. Linda Eder is her usual exemplary self and Amy Grant, Trisha Yearwood, Carl Anderson and other artists add to the experience. This is an excellent compliation which balances country, pop and even narration and a bit of rock, with Shiloh's track, "Judgement Day." In total, this is an extremely highly recommendable album, featuring 39 tracks of good, solid music.

5 out of 5 stars I was there!.......2006-02-21

I am completely in love with this music because I was in THE CIVIL WAR musical and was able to work with the music first-hand. The affects used in our version of the play - the screens, the tents, the battles, the lighting, the orchestra - made this play come to vivid life. I loved the Civil War time period to begin with, but the words in these songs just made me shiver - they force you to realize that this war actually happened, and real people were caught in the middle of it. This music is a masterpiece that should never be filed away.

4 out of 5 stars Great gems from musicals that dissapeared.......2004-11-30

Songs from 1987's "Smile" make this well worth the price. The previously unreleased material from the late, great Howard Ashman deserves to have it's moment in the spotlight.

Also, there's Judy Kuhn's beautiful performance on "Starfish", Christine Baranski's vampy turn on "Sherry".

Finally, there's" New Words" from "One, Two, Three, Four, Five". This show has been restaged, by small theatre groups, under the title "History Loves Company". "New Words" is by far the best number of this show and Liz Callaway's voice fills with love as she sings this lullaby.

For a consummate musical theatre fan who's heard it all, this disc is a refreshing look at what has been lost over the years.

3 out of 5 stars some gold mixed with dross.......2003-12-21

Some of these songs desrve to be unsung. But then you get a showstopper like Sherry and you wonder how could this show have flopped? That number alone makes this cd worth purchasing.I also enjoyed Marvin Hamlisch's toe tapping title song - Smile. There are also a few other lovely melodies which makes this cd a nice addition to a Broadway collection.

5 out of 5 stars Diverse offering full of laughter, love and the blues!!.......1998-12-24

This musical soundtrack is my favorite! It has a diverse offering of artists who range in vocals from a very robust and alluring tenor to enchanting soprano. The types of songs go from fun & upbeat to "somebody-please-get-me-a-tissue" blues. These selections will make you envision whatever scene/theme that is being performed and will force you to crawl into the number and savor/enjoy the fun or the blues of it.

I love it!! I believe you will, too.

"The blues is a chair . . . the first chair," John Lennon once said, struggling to find an analogy for the genre's elemental place in popular music's scheme of things. Emblematic of pain, struggle, oppression, and ultimately triumph, the history of the blues has all the dramatic elements of a great play. But a Broadway musical show? Well, why not? What are conventions for, if not restless tweaking and reinvention, as the blues itself has ably demonstrated over the decades? The producers have gratifyingly imparted the adventurous spirit of their quadruple-Tony nominated show (including Best Musical) to its cast album, bringing in a mini-pantheon of blues greats old and new (B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang) for guest star turns, as well as the gospel mastery of the legendary Andrae Crouch. Pushing the medium's envelope, they've also used the enhanced CD format to present a concise yet informative history of the blues in music, pictures, and words, the latter penned by show creator Ron Taylor and narrated by Taj Mahal and Whoopi Goldberg. Oh, that all history lessons were this well produced and lovingly imparted! --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars but the blues is enough.......2000-10-01

i saw this show, with several members of the original broadway cast, in september, 2000 in grand rapids, mi. it was fantastic and much better than anticipated; it is a review in the style of "smokey joe's cafe" and may have a tie-in to that show. i liked this one better. one song followed another and the big photos shown as background gave a poignancy and sense of history to the whole thing. it started out with old african songs and chants and one song followed another for a good two hours and it should have ended with the rousing version of "good night irene." it ended with a bizarre song, billie holiday's strange fruit," and then a train of freedom type song, the low key, feel good "members only." the latter is on the album and comes off well.

my only criticism of the album echoes another, earlier one -- too many songs from the show are left off the cd. i would rather they put out a two or even three cd version and included more songs. it would be worth the money to get all the songs. the ones they picked are good, but they left off quite a few of the raunchier, blatantly sexual blues, such as the cutesy good girl/bad girl song and the crotch-grabbing king snake song, and the appalachian ones and the patsy kline tribute, which may not sound like the typical black blues, but they are tied in nicely, and gave them a way to get a white guy up there... I guess phenom johnny lang was originally on broadway in this and no one can touch him on blues guitar these days.

we bought the cd ... and when i played it i was struck by the great sound. it is from a live show, with clapping and comments and is crystal clear, both vocals and instrumental backup. again, "good night irene" rocks out and will get you going. my only picky criticism of the songs on the cd and in the show is that they should have put more oomph into "st. louis blues," and done it as a group ensemble, building to a more raucous finish, as on the louis armstrong plays w.c handy album. it is too restrained, but maybe that is how bessie smith originally did it. "fever" worked perfectly in a restrained, controlled, smolderingly sensuous delivery.

the voices all were strong and the heavy-set guy who was sort of the the leader of the ensemble stole the show. the guitar playing white guy in back was slick and great on "good night irene." the guy who wrote the show is a dead ringer for redd foxx, albeit with shoulder length hair and overalls, and the three female vocalists are foxes who will knock your socks off. everybody has a strong broadway, jazz or blues pedigree and there is not a weak voice in the show. the saxaphone and keyboards that come in occasionally help capture the bluesy mood.

i recommend you buy this album; it will be money well spent. if you are not a blues brother or sister, you will be one after you listen to this. it has it all -- old african; gospel; howlin' blues' chicago blues; and modern, glitzed up blues. contrary to one of the songs, the thrill is not gone... if you buy this album, it won't be gone for you either.

2 out of 5 stars Dissapointed.......2000-09-30

I had the pleasure of attending a performance of the touring company and loved every minute of it. Unfortunately the "original cast" recording does'nt (Live performance low audio quality) match the current casts performance level. A lot of the music is missing.

3 out of 5 stars Where's the rest?.......2000-06-05

After seeing the show, I was eager for the CD to come out, but many of the songs are missing and the gaps that creates is noticeable. The show is a history of blues and all the songs should have been included. What is there is fabulous, but too little for such a compilation of blues music.

5 out of 5 stars It shouldn't be anything but "It Ain't Nothin but The Blues".......2000-05-12

In one word, spectacular. Unfortunately, this musical never got the true attention it deserved during and after it's broadway run. Sickness of cast members and a highly-publicised snubbing by the Tony Awards have conspired to keep this most original musical from us, and thank the Gods of Blues in Heaven (Or Chicago, depending if Blues is your religion, and it just may be after listening to this CD) that the original cast recording, starring Ron Taylor and so many other Blues greats has come to CD. "It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues" traces the evolution of Blues music from Africa and Slavery days to the present day. I was fortunate enough (by what can only be interpreted as an act of fate) to see this show before it went to Broadway, at the Lyceum Theatre in San Diego, California, and even though I was skeptical at the beginning of the night, by the end of it, I was singing the blues!

I'll state that I am a person that people would least expect to like Blues music, and until I saw this musical, I had no real conscious desire to listen to any. This musocal made me an instant convert. It is so good that in just two hours I had discovered by soul and by the last song I was singing along with everyone else in the theatre.

I'd recommend this CD to anybody wanting to expand their musical palette, and it's a great introduction to blues music. Since you get to listen to it from the beginning of its roots you develop an understanding of the music that is better than just putting on a Blues CD from the present and pressing play.

Want more? How about B.B. King? Jonny Lang? Buddy Guy? The best part of it all is that the lead singer and co-creator of the musical is "Bleeding Gums Murphy" Himself, Ron Taylor.

Buy this now and let the good times roll!

4 out of 5 stars Not your typical Broadway musical.......2000-03-24

Before you buy this CD, I feel obligated to let you know that IT AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT THE BLUES isn't your average Broadway style musical. If you're looking for showstopping chorus numbers, you'd best stick to CABARET or JEKYLL & HYDE; this show had a grand total of 7 cast members. It's also not the typical boy-meets-girl narrative of so many shows, either. Instead, it's a history of the blues.

That being said, there is some GREAT music to be found on this disc. The songs go all the way back to African tribal chants, includes a sampling of the songs slaves sung in the fields, and gradually makes its way up to a form that is now recognized as the Blues. Some great talent is asked to help out on this record -- Taj Mahal, BB King, Jonny Lang, and others.

One final thing: do not just listen to this CD on your stereo system. It doubles as a CD-rom with a fascinating half-hour A/V presentation on the history of Blues, narrated by Whoopi Goldberg and Taj Mahal. IT AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT THE BLUES, while not synonymous with the great Broadway shows, is a musical history lesson of the highest regard.

Amazon.com essential recording

Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown's 1950s recordings fuse the energy of big-band horns, the shuffles and boogies of R&B, and his own white-hot guitar leads. Greatly influenced by fellow Texans Blind Lemon Jefferson and T-Bone Walker, Brown absorbed their smooth, melodic, single-string solo technique, but added a rough-edged intensity to his explosive style. The slow blues "Dirty Work at the Crossroads" added Jimmy McCracklin's rolling piano to Brown's bold and brash guitar work, but it was the 1954 instrumental "Okie Dokie Stomp" that put Brown on the map. With blaring horns urging him on, Brown attacks the music with ferocity. "Ain't That Dandy" is another instrumental guitar romp, while 1959's "Just Before Dawn" features Brown's swinging violin. --Marc Greilsamer

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars "Gate" opens many many doors.......2000-04-12

The Peacock Recordings are wonderful, to me, who came late (just in the last 15 years) to Gatemouth's army off fans. His fiddle sizzles, his guitar is immediately recognizable - a veritable signature style. It's hard to distinguish between these tunes and most of his recent releases. To say that is a curse to some but to my ears it means he has ploughed many many different rows and yet the Gate imprint is on every one. Fans or would-be buyers should also check out his "new world" (somebody else's term not mine) recordings with a Namibian drummer and Ry Cooder. Better yet, if you can find it, check out his "Making Music" album created with Roy Clark (yes, Hee Haw's Roy Clark, 5 or 10 times winner of artist of the year in circles around Nashville). A veritable how-to for about six or seven different kinds of blues-ish music. Buy this Peacock album, play it (or inflict it) on friends because they will only - ears open - love it. It is musicians like Gatemouth who make the blues so personal, so enduring, so powerful. A living history that I pray will be still accessible twenty, nay, 50 years from now.

5 out of 5 stars Gatemouth's swinging blues..........1999-08-24

T-Bone swings, B.B. swings, and Gatemouth swings. Rare blues violin performance shines. A1 sound quality. You must have one.

5 out of 5 stars Rare violin blues........1999-08-15

Although most tracks are guitar blues, the finest part of this compilation is, needless to say, "violin blues". It is a shame that this phenomenal blues violinist recorded only one violin blues song.
