Team Mint, Vol. 2
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
There isn't a defined style to quirky Vancouver indie label Mint. The imprint got its start with the cutesy pop of Cub and the instrumental twang of Huevos Rancheros and then made it big with the noir-twang of Neko Case, but if this low-priced sampler proves anything, it's that you can still make a go of releasing a variety of different sounds independently. Huevos and Case both appear here--Case on her own as well as crooning with the extravagant pop combo New Pornographers. The other tracks skip from the snotty punk-pop of New Town Animals and the Smugglers to the modish pop of Duotang, the vocal harmonies of the Corn Sisters and the explosive thrash of the Evaporators. Team Mint Volume 2! is predictably uneven, and the lack of new or unreleased material seems a bit cheap, but as a snapshot of one label's contribution to Canadian independent music, it's gold. --Matt Galloway

Album Description
Just in time to celebrate the holiday season, Mint Records unleashes its second Christmas release. Four years ago, the It's A Team Mint Xmas, Vol. 1 7" presented five songs from Mint-related bands, and now in 2004, Mint has added six more songs to the original lineup, making an 11-song holiday disc with a twist! Profits from the sale of It's A Team Mint Xmas, Vol. 2 will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, the foundation set up by the United Nations Secretary General's Special Envoy For HIV/AIDS in Africa (stephenlewisfoundation.org).

I don't think so.......2005-03-09
Every year I search for obscure holiday music gems. I didn't find a single one here. The only song with any redeeming value IMHO was the cover of "Do They Know It's Christmas", which is done to death anyway, and this version is nothing special. I'd like to support groups that contribute to charity, but in this case just send the money directly to the charity and save your ears for better things.
