3 out of 5 stars Non-Score Mark Kozelek Songs.......2007-04-28

The 3 Mark Kozelek tracks are available:

"Lily & Parrots"
"Carry Me Ohio"
from the album "Ghosts of the Great Highway" by Sun Kil Moon
Ghosts of the Great Highway

"Make Like Paper"
from the album "Songs for a Blue Guitar" by The Red House Painters
Songs for a Blue Guitar

Mark Kozelek wrote and sings all 3 songs. He's been a member of The Red House Painters (now defunct) and Sun Kil Moon. I think at least one of the tracks above is available on a solo live recording, "Little Drummer Boy Live." Little Drummer Boy Live

5 out of 5 stars An older man who can write from the POV of a young woman.......2007-01-13

I loved the novella written by Steve Martin. It was a quick read that I really enjoyed. It is one of those books that is small, but says a lot.

Unlike most book-to-movie projects this one did not dissapoint. It was very true to the story. I love to see Steve Martin playing a subdued character. He is an amazing actor, comedien, and writer. Is there anything he can't do?

I would suggest buying the book as well. You will be able to read it in just a few hours, and it will make the movie even better.

5 out of 5 stars what is the song.......2006-10-31

hey whats the song they play at the end of the trailer?

5 out of 5 stars sad, yet beautiful.......2006-10-17

This is my all time favorite original score soundtrack. I call this cd a "night" cd, as I always listen to it when going to bed, or driving home late from work. The music is so beautifully passionate, and yet very sad and haunting. The songs will literally bring you to tears, depedning on what kind of mood you are in. Anyone who is a true lover of music will enjoy this cd as much as I do.

5 out of 5 stars Shopgirl..........2006-06-14

Shopgirl is an elegant soundtrack that is deeply in passion. I was dissapointed like Greenteagirl, because there wasn't any songs from the movie on the soundtrack. I really liked:

Lily & Parrots"
Written and Performed by Mark Kozelek

"Carry Me Ohio"
Written and Performed by Mark Kozelek

"Make Like Paper"
Written and Performed by Mark Kozelek

"Somewhere In My Heart"
Written by Jeff Oaks and Bill Peterson
Performed by the Volebeats

"Gimme Little Sign"
Written by Joseph Hooven, Alfred Smith and Jerry Winn
Performed by Brenton Wood

"I Only Want To Be With You"
Written by Michael Edwin Hawker and Ivor Raymonde
Performed by Dusty Springfield

But the score was beautiful and sad. It mostly has strings (violens, cellos, etc...) It brought a few tears to my eyes.

2 out of 5 stars not to great.......2007-04-04

We were disappointed with this CD, but for the price I guess we can't expect much. I didn't care for the new style presentation of the songs. I like a more traditional rendering.

3 out of 5 stars Not so bad, 100 tunes for 4$.......2005-06-22

I red the comments of two other people who have bought this 4 CD BOX SET and it is not really so bad. I will even add that there are some excellent tunes. However, I must agree with the fact that few tunes seem to have been recorded 40 or 50 years ago, mainly when you hear the scratches of an old turntable but it is just 2 or 3 tunes. Furthermore, if you do not know American music, it is a good BOX SET to buy if you consider that you received 4 CD for 4$ including 100 tunes. On these 4 CD, I have heard some orchestration that I have never heard before and I consider that they are different but interesting. Any way, after hearing these 100 tunes, you will say to yourself that you like this tune, this other tune, this other tune and so on and you will be able to buy a more expensive CD with the tunes that you like. However, I have bought many CDs in the last few weeks and as you know, there are always some tunes that you like and some tunes that you do not like on every CD that you will buy. So, don't buy it at 25$ but at 4 or 5$ dollars, it is a very good choice for 100 tunes.

1 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for........2004-07-04

You get what you pay for. The singers put their own spin on the singing of each song. If you didn't hear the words you would not recognize some of them. Even some of the music sounds like a bad recording of music played on a turntable. Definitely not worth the price.

1 out of 5 stars Now I know why there were no song samples to listen to ..........2004-07-04

I wish this review had been here when I was thinking of purchasing it. I guess you get what you pay for. If you are thinking of buying this, you are better off recording your own CDs (or at least buying one that you can listen to a sampling of the songs). This album includes songs that were mere recordings of the songs playing on an old record player. It's almost so unbelievable that it is funny.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Set!.......2007-07-01

I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith. They did a great job preserving his vision. I can listen to this collection for hours. Great music!

5 out of 5 stars Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection.......2006-11-03

This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton?

4 out of 5 stars Overall a strong Goldsmith sampler.......2006-04-11

Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo.

Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm).

Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks".

It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison.

But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva.

4 out of 5 stars Jerry Goldsmith - 40 years of pleasure.......2006-02-22

It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius!

4 out of 5 stars Almost the perfect compilation.......2005-12-31

Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having.

However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe.

However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan.

Before there was Hans Solo there was Napolean Solo, before ER there was Dr. Kildare. Jerry Goldsmith IS Sci-Fi. "Resistance is futile.. you MUST assimilate this CD collection."

2 out of 5 stars Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15

As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".

3 out of 5 stars Mediocre.......2006-05-17

The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06

I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24

Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.

5 out of 5 stars Really Good Collection.......2004-07-11

I bought this in part because it had soundtracks to tv shows that are unavailable. My husband and I watch aome British programming. Many of the theme songs are for what seems like obscure British shows. That said; it has been enjoyable to hear music that I would normally never hear. Some music does sound tinny; some are very very rich, and some music is derived from actual preformances from the original artists. I think this is worth buying because is has a wonderful blend of music. The pieces are full soundtracks so they includes the parts of the theme song which are often edited out. I think the orchestra's who preformed the music did a great job. I have MonsterMania which redoes the soundtracks to the Godzilla movies. The interpretation is less heavy and stark than the preformance we associate with the original soundtrack; but I regard it as a new way to appreciate the music and all the componets which make the song unique.

2 out of 5 stars utterly dissapointing.......2007-02-25

Honestly, when it comes to the master of funk, i expect so much more. i bought this album to add to my p. funk collection expecting to hear some classic bass lines, and funky grooves but instead got a hip/hop infused, almost completely funkless, soulless album. i actually considered throwing it out the window after a first listen, the second listen saved its life. to say ive never been this dissapointed in an album is an understatement. RIP to the funk....

4 out of 5 stars R U Absent?.......2006-09-14

This CD is bomb. I love to hear a good compilation. It's all about the art in generating a disc that flows.

I've been a fan of Clinton's work for a long time (two concerts). These other reviews are just from critics stuck in the 70's. It's called G Funk not Funk Hop and it's only a couple of songs. Clinton's songs and production with people like Outkast, Too $hort, or Dre... You can't denie that this funkster has Hip Hop in his soul.

The whole CD is crazy bomb, Del's Hip Hop is hit or miss really (excentric)... heance the 4 star rating. The reason I bought this CD is because of the song Somthing Stank. I heard that song at the concerts and loved it and loved Shondra for rapping it, but never saw it recorded until now. It's completely different besides the some of the lyrics. I liked it better done over the 808 but now it's just a funk song, oh well - it's fine.

Buy the CD if your a die hard fan, buy it used if you want to hear a good colaberation of funk love.

4 out of 5 stars The Return of Dr. Funkenstein and his Clones.......2006-02-21

As a long-time rabid PFunk fan, in my fear that the best of the mob may well be in the past I've contented myself during the last several years with nostalgia over the mob's great recorded hits of the 70s thru' the 80s (from "The Mothership Connection" through to "Trombipulation" for Parliament, "Let's Take it to the Stage" through "Electric Spanking..." for Funkadelic and the great output of the past from the myriad other spin off acts of the mob, including the eventual solo albums of George Clinton (the Funk overlord himself), Bootsy's Rubber Band, Parlet, the Brides, etc.. and even the renegade Funkadelic (Shady Grady, Fuzzy haskins and the (now good Rev) Calvin Simon). The last real new new material I heard was about 7 years ago "US Customs Coast Guard Dope Dogs" of 1998 which was a great disappointment overall. "How Late Do U have 2B..." however has re-energized my faith in "the One" and I must happily say the good Dr.Funkenstein is indeed really back with a bang. And in addition to a few of the amazingly talented clones of the old brigade who seem to have survived with him (Bernie Worrel, Michael hampton, Gary Shyder, Billy Bass etc..) there are fresh new faces whose individual talents make for a healthy regeneration of Pfunk. Belita Woods' voice is out of this world and so are the vocalizing skills of Kendra and the rapability of the first grand daughter of funk, sativa. I love a good number of the tracks including "Bounce to this", Whatchamacallit", "Something Stank, "Sexy Side of you", Paradigm (which features Prince), and the everlasting "I can Dance" which goes on and on. The track that however blows the cobwebs that have settled over the years of PFunk stagnation right out my mind is "U Ain't Running Sh*%t". Rejoice all believers, Pfunk is back!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Dope.......2006-02-08

What is a booty, and how do you know if you're shaking it? Thank God for George Clinton so that we will always have an answer to that question. ...Absent is a sprawling conglomeration of P-Funk-related tracks, great and small. In all honesty, this album really deserves around 3 stars, but the pieces and parts can be removed and built into a 4-4.5 star funk opus. There is no question that some songs drag down the average a bit.

One thing that concerned me before I bought this album was the wide variety of artists credited to different songs. Kendra who? Sativa? Don't worry. GC is all over this thing, and when you listen to it you won't be able to tell the difference. There are a variety of flavors here, just take your pick. "Watchamacallit" sounds like a TAPOAFOM-era jam. "Because/Last Time Zone" is a trippy, Funkadelic-style piece that borrows from the Beatles. "Sexy Side of You" is the perfect semi-sleazy slice of funk/pop that you didn't even know you've been waiting for. Its arguably the best thing Clinton has done in a decade.

One aspect that I really liked about this album was the integration of hip-hop, throughout. P-Funk and Hip-Hop have been intertwined since DJs began sampling Parliament in the early 80s (or late 70s, maybe) but never has it been married together as convincingly as "Trust in Yourself", for example. Another selling point are the guest spots, with two in particular standing out. While the Prince collabo, "Paradigm", doesn't exactly live up to the billing of the two greatest funkateers this side of Sly Stone, it is a can't-miss moment nonetheless. Del the Funkee Homosapien's freestyle over Funkadelics sludgy metal is the reason I picked this up in the first place. Ultimately, if you love the funk, you can do worse than this release.

Here is my ultra-sleek streamlined version:

1. Bounce 2 This
2. Butt-A-Butt
3. Paradigm
4. Gypsy Woman
5. Inhale Slow
6. Viagra
7. Because/Last Time Zone
8. Su, Su, Su
9. Sexy Side of You
10. Watchamacallit
11. Trust in Yourself
12. I'll Be Sittin' Here

Of course, you'll want to cater yours to your specific tastes.

3 out of 5 stars Is this "funk-hop"?.......2006-01-27

This album took me some time to get into. My first impression was frustration because it felt like a rap album, largely devoid of funk. But after a few listens there are several gems to be discovered and it has grown on me. This is certainly a mixed bag though, heavy on rap/hip-hop and light on funk.

My biggest problem with the record is how rap/hip-hop seems to be extinguishing the life out of funk music, at least in my opinion. I like my funk uncut. There are numerous times where a great song gets going and then rap music trashes the song. For example, "Viagra" (Viagravation?) starts out with an excellent, exciting riff and then goes limp the moment the rapping begins. What a waste of an otherwise outstanding guitar track! This would have been my favorite track if it wasn't for that dreadful rapping. Too bad it wasn't just an instrumental like an out-of-control "Maggot Brain" in high gear. Nice lyrics at the end though.

Another great funky track is "Something Stank." The beginning and ending are great but the middle takes a sharp nosedive into an annoying rap song which defuses the good groove they had going. Mercifully, the rap part is only a minute long before the funk is restored.

"U Ain't Runnin Sh#t" is a gangster rap song that I find quite unpleasant. "I'll Be Sittin' Here" is a decent song that would be far better without the rap interlude. "Trust in Yourself" is easily the worst song on the album. It has crass and sexist rap lyrics that just don't belong on a funk record. This song is the anti-funk! "Otherside," a bonus track after the puerile "Booty," is another rap song with a profane chorus. What's the deal with all the foul language on these rap songs? Innuendo is fun but I don't want to hear cussing all song long. No class. "Butt-a-Butt" is too hip-hop for my tastes, but not as bad as other rap tracks on the album.

But there are some great moments as well making this album worth checking out. "Bounce 2 This" is the type of song that reminds you why you love funk so much. It's up-tempo and fun. "Su, Su, Su" has a nice funky slow groove. "U Can Depend On Me" doesn't have much in the way of funk but is one of my favorite tracks on the album. It's got some nice guitar weaving its way through the song and a lovely chorus. The Belita Woods songs are all outstanding. My favorite song though is "I Can Dance." It's a 15-minute loop of "Nappy Dugout" with Sue Dog having a conversation with George. Bad language aside, the track is pretty damn funny. Other favorites include "Gypsy Woman" and "Watchamacallit."

If you are new to funk skip this one for now and start elsewhere, but for long-time fans I'd say there are enough satisfying tracks to make it worth picking up. There are more positives than negatives. However, I have an impending sense that the Mothership is going in the direction of rap and hip-hop, and if that be the case, it feels like the beginning of the end to me.

A nice mix of classics that are soothing without being boring. I have this in my office and have found myself both happier and more relaxed when I play it. Because there are no real extremes in volume I can put it one low and have it in the background during a meeting or turn it up when I'm by myself.
I recommend it was antidote to stress and crabbiness.

Album Description

Silence is the fourth studio album of the band A.C.T., whom consists of five eager and ambitious young musicians from Sweden. With their 1999 debut album, Today's Report, A.C.T. have won the hearts of rock fans the world over. Their fresh and energy-laden mixture of melodic prog, rock and pop comes across entirely convincing and recently won them an opening slot with the legendary Saga on their recent European tour. Silence contains over 60 minutes of pure listening pleasure and is packaged with a multimedia section that offers a live clip serving as witness to their spectacular live performance.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Solid mix of prog and pop.......2007-03-30

Silence marks the debut of Sweden's A.C.T. on Inside Out, and expands on their classic pop-driven prog heard on their previous efforts Today's Report and the more intriguing Last Epic. The album consists of two parts -- the first ten songs being the independent pieces, marked by the Saga-like vocal harmonies of "Puppeteers" and "This Wonderful World", the latter decorated with a sweet classical arrangement in its ending. The fervent bass opening of "Out of Ideas" suggests the band are going to launch into a rocking song, but it quickly takes on a symphonic vibe, with lush keyboards, a gentle string attachment, and a neat guitar solo behind Ola Andersson's Jon Anderson-styled vocal delivery. The album does offer a heavier approach with the arrival of the anthemic main riff of "Hope", a song that is right up there with the material Asia offered in the early 90's. Touches of Supertramp, ELO, and Queen come in and out of the songs in the blink of an eye, but what they keep intact throughout is the use of gripping vocal harmonies, supported by symphonic and vintage keys, and melodic guitar effects.

As is the case with previous A.C.T. records, the second half of the album is dedicated to a lengthy piece, simply titled Consequences. This epic-scale composition contains three independent stories: the heavy, more intricate opening of "Silent Screams", complete with wide-open strings, ties in with the delicate acoustic intro of "Introduction" -- according to a recent interview of the band, this is sort of like the storytelling of a Quentin Tarantino piece. "Joanna", one of the high points of the CD, is drenched in a tense synth patch, as a driving bass line carries it into a more rocking domain. The interlocking guitar theme sounds quite interesting and does a nice job depicting the tragic story of a young lady who gets killed in a car accident after having a fight with her boyfriend. The repeated piano melody during the slowed-down section is really beautiful and I love how it transforms back into the mammoth arrangement it is as they weave heavy bass and guitar rhythms into the mix. Also, the vocal melody of "A Father's Love" is truly moving. The third and last mini-concept of the album starts with "The Diary, examining the confusion of a lost little girl who is mentally deranged. The state of her mind is excellently captured with hook-strong vocals harmonies that alternate between innocent whispers to psychotic bursts of drama, with the addition of a wide range of sounds. Perhaps the most Asia-meets-Saga type of composition, it also boasts nice instrumental interplay between bass, guitar, and keys respectively.

The production was done by Andromeda keyboardist Martin Hedin and is to be praised for its use of space and transparancy. A.C.T. have delivered a fine record, but something inside me says, their best is yet to come.

3 out of 5 stars Falls Just Short Of Their High Standards.......2007-01-14

It was three years between albums, but at long last the 4th A.C.T album, "Silence" has been released. The Japanese release was on June 21st of 2006, and the rest of the world had to wait until October. This particular item is the Enhanced CD which includes the bonus video of A.C.T performing "Mr. Landlord" in concert. With three strong CDs already to their credit, this fourth release is hoped to propel the group onto the international stage.

This CD returns to the format of their first two CDs where they have a number of individual tracks, followed by a longer work made up from shorter pieces or movements. There are 10 individual pieces, including some very solid tracks such as the opener "Truth Is Pain", "This Wonderful World", "No Longer Touching Ground", and "The Voice Within". The longer piece is called "Consequences" and is made up of 9 tricks, including several strong pieces such as "Joanna", A Father's Love, "Memory To Fight", and "A Wound That Won't Heal". Overall, in many ways this is the most accessible album that A.C.T has done, but it also falls a little bit short of the previous three.

The band A.C.T includes members Jerry Sahlin (synthesizers, lead and backing vocals, vocoder and deck of cards), Ola Andersson (electric and acoustic guitars, lead and backing vocals), Peter Asp (bass guitar, synth bass and bass pedals), Herman Saming (lead and backing vocals), and Tomas Lejon (drums and percussion). On this album they have as guest musicians "The Acting Orchestra" which includes Tomas Ebrelius (violin 1), Hanna Hajslund Hansen (violin 2), Catharina Holm (viola), and John Löfgren (cello). In addition, Kenny Sahlin provides additional lead vocals on "Puppeteers" and Martin Hedin is the angry customer on "Call in Dead".

I have listened to this album repeatedly since purchasing it, and as with their previous works it does get better each time, but it does lack the great tracks which the prior CDs had. So, while this CD will probably earn the group a larger audience, the long-time fans are probably going to prefer their earlier releases. I would put this album at around 3 and ½ stars, but as Amazon doesn't allow that I have to round down to 3.

5 out of 5 stars Super Cool Album!!!.......2006-11-12

This is an incredible album to listen to. Unlike its predecessor, Silence is soft, soothing, catchy, melodic and most importantly SUPER COOL! I found ACT just a few years back when Last Epic was released that was just an eye opener for me as ACT is band of multi musical genre blending progressive elements with aor melodic rock. At times it was heavy and technical but on the other hand it was also, soft, soothing to the ears and playful indeed with reggae feel. It was just so cool to listen to them. Now with Silence the album title matches with the overall feel of the album.. At first it was like oh my god this sounded like pop music but once it grows in you, you'll be singing all day long!! Still there are progrssive elements thrown into the mix but it is just on the softer side. If you just want to relax and enjoy something cool this is it!! Highly recommended! It never surprises me that it is the Sweds that did it again. Get it!

4 out of 5 stars A.C.T.-Silence.......2006-10-18

Many secrets surround the Swedish quintet A.C.T, who are about to release their fourth studio album "Silence". What does the abbreviation A.C.T actually stand for? "We won't tell you", says Keyboardist and vocalist Jerry Sahlin, "it's up to the fans to guess". What about the album title "Silence"? "Well, it's good that this word has so many meanings..." Okay, let's move on from this. It's also a mystery as to why the band are still only considered a "hot tip", despite their extraordinary song material and strong tour supports for well-known acts such as Fish and Saga. With "Silence" however, their first release for InsideOut Music, this all looks set to change.

The band's music, which the protagonists themselves call "Melodic/Prog/Rock/Pomp/Pop", has become much more mature and concise with each album. The band's skills are not just limited to impressive solo spots but can be best appreciated in their ensemble playing. There are some stand out examples on the new album such as the guitar and keyboard interplay in the middle section of "Hope", or the bass and keyboards working together in "No Longer Touching Ground". The first half of the album is a collection of individual songs, while the other half tells the tragic story of Joanna, a young woman desperately wanting a child, who ends up experiencing a tragic turn of events. It is in this second half of "Silence" where the band really shines and captivates the listener with its finer tones and complex song structures. Each listen reveals something new in the music without ever taking the magic away from it. How the band achieves this will probably remain A.C.T's biggest mystery.

Full CD comes with bonus live footage of this exciting band.

4 out of 5 stars Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19

Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.

My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.

5 out of 5 stars The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

Album Description

Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Trainspotting) once again reinvents the cinematic experience with a heartwarming story of two little boys, faith, miracles...and lots of money. Starting anew after the death of their mother, 9-year-old Anthony is ever practical, while his 7-year old brother Damian uses imagination, fantasy, and faith to make sense of his confusing world. When a suitcase full of money falls out of the sky at Damien's feet, it sets the boys on the adventure of a lifetime that leads them to realize that true wealth has nothing to do with money. Featuring original score by John Murphy, "TUMBLE AND FALL" by Feeder, "BRAZIL" by S'Express, and the film's signature song "NIRVANA" by El Bosco.

5 out of 5 stars A mantra for love.......2007-05-19

Whole disc it is beutiful, the movie too. But, the song Nirvana is the most beautiful song that a lot of people can hear. Its a kind of mix of apocaliptic premonition with love song. Chorus like it were came from the sky by angels. Really, beautiful song for all kind of liking.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!.......2007-05-12

The soundtrack and the film are both brilliant!! The touching tracks on the soundtrack help you remember what it feels like to be a child. Imagination. That is what is missing from today's society and that is what Millions helps us recapture!!
