For its first new set of music since 2000's Warning, Green Day tears up the blueprint and comes up with something unexpected: a punk rock concept album built around elaborate melodies, odd tempo changes, and a collection of songs that freely reference classic rock warhorses like the Beatles and Pink Floyd. "She's a Rebel" and "St. Jimmy" might sound like vintage Green Day, but the rest of the disc finds the Northern California trio trying on a variety of different guises: "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is a cliché-strewn Foo Fighters-style power ballad; "Extraordinary Girl" floats on Indian strings; and the hushed "Wake Me Up When September Ends" wouldn't sound entirely out of place on a Jessica Simpson record. It doesn't always work. "Dearly Beloved" eerily resembles the Alarm's "68 Guns," while the title track eerily resembles something Green Day has already done far too many times. But, overall, American Idiot represents a promising step forward. --Aidin Vaziri

Album Description

The first original album since 2000 from modern rock superheroes Green Day, American Idiot is one of the most anticipated and controversial albums of the year. Scathing yet self-effacing as it tells the tale of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, American Idiot is the punk rock epic. "A bold, polished punk opera." (Entertainment Weekly) "They're the biggest, most successful, punk band the world has ever seen. What's more, Green Day's next album may well be their masterpiece." (Kerrang!)

5 out of 5 stars American Genius.......2007-07-08

There is a lot of excellent music here. "Holiday," "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," and of course the title track are destined to be Green Day classics. It is obvious these guys ave something to say, and this album spares no risks in delivering that message. It challenges us, as Americans, to look at ourselves and society. I love music like this. It has meaning. Green Day has reached their peak with this album. They will never sound this good again.

3 out of 5 stars Fair.......2007-06-30

I'am Not Usually Not A Big Fan Of Green Day. Really I Pretty Much Hate All Of There Album's. But For Some Reason I Actually Like This Album Ok. I Don't Know It's Like It's A Step Of Good For Green Day. It's Actually The Only Green Day Album I Own. I Proabably Recomend This One, But It's The Only One I Would.

4 out of 5 stars Who Cares what people say!!.......2007-06-29

I bought this album about 2 years ago when it came out. Being an old school Greenday fan some of this album was new to me,but is changing really a bad thing. Everyone says GreenDay sold out with this LP but does growing up musically really considered selling out. If that was true than great bands such as Pink Floyd would be considered sell outs. Being a true GreenDay fan I will say some of the songs on this album sort of have the album "Warning" sound to it. So if you like good concept music buy this album!!

4 out of 5 stars A whole new Green Day!.......2007-06-15

Leaving their goof ball punk days behind,American Idiot sheds new light on new light on Green Day that we have noty seen before. At the risk of abandening fans,Green Day new album has a totally different style shift from the latest album Warning. The base line is still very simple but produces and amazing rythim.Billy Joes vocals are amazing espeally on songs like Holiday or St. Jimmy.Green Day shift from punk to rock is simply there best decision in there lenthly carrer.

4 out of 5 stars Great music, bad tech.......2007-06-05

The album itself is excellent, but I refer you to the other reviews for why. However, it isn't Red Book-compliant, so I had difficult playing it at first on GNU/Linux.

One of the must-own soul albums, Greatest Hits is fattened with five extra tracks in this reissue. Al Green brought the Memphis Sound into the '70s by slightly softening it, melding smooth funkiness with his miraculous voice and innate sensitivity: his love songs, while perfect for the bedroom, are as conversational as they are blatantly seductive. By adding the likes of "Belle," a 1977 single that's a near-goodbye to the pop life, to the original lineup of "Let's Stay Together," "Look What You Done for Me," "Call Me," and the others, this edition of Greatest Hits also intriguingly fills out the story. --Rickey Wright

No one, but no one, is better than Al Green when it comes to heart-wrenching, gut-churning tales of heartbreak and woe.
I call it singing that is absolutely emotionally honest and believable and easy to relate to (if you've ever been in any of these situations--and who hasn't?)

The man (with his voice) has the ability to heal/mend when it comes to matters of the heart. It certainly seems that way.
Can't praise him enough.

5 out of 5 stars A Greatest Hits Masterpiece.......2007-03-29

A lot if not most greatest hits collections have some hits and some padding. Not this album. This is one great collection. The five songs tacked on at the end made this album a must own masterpiece. If you like Al Green's 70's output, you WILL like this CD.Every single song is a classic.Ol Skool Al Green fans (like myself) might already have at least a couple of his albums already, but this CD sums up why he's soul legend.

P.S.:Do yourself a favor and pick up some of his 70's era albums starting with "I'm Still In Love With You" if you haven't already.

Leonard Bernstein's musical update of Romeo and Juliet, with a young Stephen Sondheim's brilliant lyrics, had already galvanized Broadway with its vivid reinvention as a parable of racial intolerance and generational conflict. But director Robert Wise's lavish widescreen presentation broke fresh ground by taking the story to its most impressionable audience, the teenagers who could identify directly with Tony and Maria, and opened up Jerome Robbins's kinetic choreography through bravura camera work. The original soundtrack album was not merely a huge seller but a unique touchstone for an otherwise rock-oriented audience, and its release on CD benefits from an expanded program untenable in its initial LP release, as well as a 20-bit digital transfer. With Richard Beymer, Marni Nixon (Hollywood's vocal doppelgänger of choice, here standing in for Natalie Wood), and Rita Moreno dominating, the show's bounty of terrific songs and exciting instrumental pieces remains an ear-filling treat, mixing operatic passions, tart social commentary, and high comedy. From "Tonight" to "One Hand, One Heart," "America" to "Jet Song," this is a landmark in American musical theatre and film beautifully realized on disc. --Sam Sutherland

Yes, this is the movie version and is an important part of 1960s pop culture, but it pales in comparison to the Broadway Cast. The sound quality is sub-par, and the voices are nowhere near as strong as the 1957 Cast. The movie also cuts some important music, or rewoks the score until it is completely different from the original. The order was also changed from the original show, and it is hard to listen to for someone that is familiar with the original. Overall, 1957 cast over this one, but buy it for the memories if you must.

Writing a credible musical is hard enough, but writing a credible musical based on both Nick Hornby's High Fidelity, one of indie rockdom's most beloved novels, and his film adaptation was a herculean task. Give book writer David Lindsay-Abaire (the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole), lyricist Amanda Green, and composer Tom Kitt credit for trying, even if when listening to this CD it quickly becomes clear that their middle-of-Broadway sensibility may not have been the most suited to source material completely immersed in the obsessive world of record-collecting rock purists. (Compare and contrast to the obsessive world of record-collecting show-tune purists, which is the background for the wonderful Drowsy Chaperone.) The energetic cast exerts itself--and, as in the movie, Rob's record-store helpers Dick (Christian Anderson) and Barry (Jay Klaitz) steal the show from leads Rob (Will Chase) and Laura (Jenn Colella). But while the shrieky, Guns N' Roses-meets-Beastie Boys "Conflict Resolution" is fun, overall the music lacks spark and energy, which is quite noticeable in a number that should be BIG, like "Nine Percent Chance." The CD includes "Too Tired," a bonus track sung by Colella that was cut from the show. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Album Description

High Fidelity follows the story of record-store owner Rob (and constant Top 5 listemaker) who - when things in his current relationship go sour - revisits his former relationships ot find out where he went wrong.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Broadway Album of 2006.......2007-07-06

I saw this show in previews and was fairly impressed, but after listening to this album a few times, I realize what a fantastic gem of a musical this really was. The music soars and the lyrics are the smartest and funniest I've heard in years. It helps if you relate to the material, which is directed at underachieving 30 somethings. Right now, I'm particularly fond of "Ready to Settle". A rare bonus is that all of the tracks are great.

2 out of 5 stars I'm ready to settle.......2007-06-29

Alright, I really wanted to like this recording, Hi Fidelity is one of my favorite books and I love the movie very much. The cast recording is highly disappointing. The lyrics are bad, really bad. The music is catchy and if you are a fan of the book and or movie its kind of neat to hear the parts of the story in song but honestly the only good part of this cast recording is leading man Will Chase playing Rob.

5 out of 5 stars How a Lack of Patience Killed a Great Broadway Musical!.......2007-06-27

After listening to this CD you are going to ask youself how did this play not have an extended run on Broadway. The score is a jewel in the tradition of "RENT." I can't get a number of the melodies out of my head. This score has it all! Excellent and fun lyrics and catchy tunes. I just can't understand critics. If a musical isn't completely unique it gets trashed. I read some of the reviews and could not believe what I read. Good Songs, Good Acting, Good Chemestry, Good Creative team, etc, etc, etc. So what was wrong? Well, the answer, is nothing! So if you want to listen to a wonderful musical score and scratch your head on why the producers turned chicken and dumped a wonderful play you must purchase this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific recording (5 stars) of a Flop show (2 stars).......2007-05-30

This is a wonderfully done recording of a show that was definately a flop. The music is entertaining, the lyrics particularly good. While the piece doesn't hold together as something that was worth 125.00 a ticket on Broadway, it certainly is fun listening. The music is pop rock, in the vein of The Wedding Singer (a much superior entertainment as a show). While I didn't like the show live, I enjoy the recording and have listened to it more than once. It is worth having in your Broadway collection, and it will surely be a show that is done across the country in community and college theatre, where new works are sorely in need (whether or not they are any good).

4 out of 5 stars SOFT ROCK.......VERY SOFT ROCK.......2007-05-17

Listening to the CD of "High Fidelity" presents a quandry. Although the music is tuneful and rock, it's soft rock at its' softest. Since the main focus of the story revolves around a used vinyl record shop, it's curious that the score doesn't contain at least one or two high energy, all-stops out numbers. This may have been a calculated risk on the part of the composer but it didn't succeed and the show didnt even last a week on Broadway. The score is blessed with literate and intelligent lyrics by Amanda Green and since lyrics are meant to compliment the music and vice versa- in this instance the lyrics for this score outshine the music.

The cast are unknowns but Will Chase is good as Rob, the perpetually unlucky-in-love record shop owner. He rates his romantic disasters like a top ten Billboard music chart.

The CD makes for pleasant listening but considering the storys locale it should have been a blast.

I rated 4 stars because despite my reservations Tom Kitt the composer and especially Amanda Green the lyricist are talented and probably have a future in music ahead of them.

Take one part Ramones, one part Buzzcocks, and one part Husker Du, and you've got the basic foundation of Green Day, a punky, witty, melodic San Francisco Bay area trio who became overnight stars in 1994 when this album, their third overall release and major label debut, catapulted them to the top of the pop charts. Led by guitarist/vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong and their secret weapon, powerhouse drummer Tre Cool, Green Day put '70s and '80s punk in a compact '90s package with songs like "Longview," "Basket Case," "Pulling Teeth," and the hit semi-ballad, "When I Come Around." One the few modern alternative rock bands with a bona fide sense of humor. --Billy Altman

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Oh, for Pete's sake!.......2007-06-07

I remember dancing to "Basketcase" at my middle school mixers when I was 12. I thought the song was absolutely amazing. I loved Green Day, couldn't imagine a time when I wouldn't love Green Day.

Well, my friends, that time has come. Green Day, along with the other alterna/grunge/punk rock groups of the nineties, have ceased to endure. It's sad, really, to think that a whole jaunre of music has boiled down to ultimate mediocrity. I agree with another reviewer, a kid, who notes that the songs ARE good the first hundred times; they're just not good ever after. By 1996, I was done with Green Day and the like. My general dissatfication with music left me restless and by a stroke of luck led me overseas to the Brit Pop movement of the 90s propelled by The Stone Roses, Suede, and Pulp, to name a few. ("I'm so bored with USA" shouted The Clash in 1977; I felt that sentiment twenty years later.) Finally, music as good today as yesterday and the day before that.

At any rate, back to Green Day specifically. All of this discussion as to whether or not Green Day is punk is absurd. Punk began in the seventies with The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and The Clash along with many others. The jaunre most prominately morphed into Post-Punk (ie Joy Division, Psychedelic Furs etc., now called Neo Post Punk ie Interpol), but it never ceased to exist unto itself. Punk is most vaguely defined as three cord music accompanied by vituperative, nihilistic lyrics. Is Green Day therefore punk? Absolutely. It could also be classified loosely as Alternative, but definately not grunge music. The better question here is whether or not Green Day is good Punk? What is it that they do with those three cords that make their work special?

The true answer is, not much. The music on Dookie has very little range and the lyrics are positively negligible. I mean, who was ever prompted to scream "Anarchy!!!" at the sound of a Green Day song? Think a minute... My point exactly. Punk that misses its mark. In addition, BJA's voice is an utter horror, which can work to the music's benefit, but not in this case. These are the three major problems with Green Day's Dookie, problems that make it not only bad punk, but also not so good music.

Now, I know I am going to get bashed with "unhelpful" votes for stating my opinion. Please be conscious then, that my review is not for someone who already loves Green Day, but for someone who uses Amazon as I do, as a source iin order to define their future investments in music.

I would like to end my review by stating that Green Day have muiscally improved over the years; I was impressed with their recent growth in the form of American Idiot. They have only gotten better when many bands just get worse. Now, do I like their music? More important, do I listen to their new music and want to scream "Anarchy!". Hell no! Thank the Lord I have Folk-Rock's subtle and poetic Bright Eyes for that.

5 out of 5 stars One of the biggest landmarks in music history.......2007-05-21

Green Day's third album, Dookie, has to be one of the greatest albums of all time anyway you look at it. The raunchy 1994 take-over-the-world album definately falls into my list of the top 100 greatest albums of all time, and I'm not saying that because of today's American Idiot craze. It helped kick off the mid to early 90s punk scene and proved that the trio are musical geniuses. The MTV hits, like "Longview," "When I Come Around," and "Basket Case" are some of the best songs in Green Day's arsenal, and it's to no one's surprise that they're contained in this album. So why is this album so great? Here's a song by song breakdown for an answer.

1) Burnout- 9/10 One of my all time favorite Green Day songs. It just screams "rebellious," as Billie Joe sings "I declare I don't care no more... I'm burnin' up and out I'm growing bored, in my smoked-out boring room" as the opening power chords start off the song. A definitive hit.

2) Having a Blast- 8/10 A great experimentation song, but somewhat weird vocals. Still pretty good though.

3) Chump- 9/10 Yet another song that represents the overall attitude of Green Day. It's about how Billie Joe's then girlfriend, Adrienne Nesser, cheats on him during the recording of the album, but it's not her he's mad at, it's the guy she's cheating on him with; hence the lyrics and feeling of the song.

4) Longview- 10/10 One of Green Day's most underrated songs of all time. Being transitional with Chump, it starts out with a heavy rain of bass drums by Tre Cool and a signature bass riff by Mike Dirnt. The lyrics and riffs of the song are brilliant, and is a great Green Day song to listen to if you've just come out of the American Idiot craze.

5) Welcome to Paradise- 9.5/10 Probably the most punk-rocking Green Day song you'll ever hear. The opening power chords make you rave for more as Billie Joe spits out "Dear mother, can you hear me whining? It's been three whole weeks since I have left your home". The eerie interlude of speeding bass, guitar, and drums all at once are a perfect fit for the song, in which after Billie Joe sings "Dear mother, can you hear me laughing? It's been six whole months since I have left your home," which is completely contrare to the first verse. Another must-listen.

6) Pulling Teeth- 8.5/10 Pretty good, which an actual touch of humor to it. It tells a tale of when bassist Mike Dirnt and his wife have a pillow fight and Mike ends up breaking both of his arms. No filler track here.

7) Basket Case- 10/10 Another masterpiece by the band. It starts out with speeding power chords which follow Billie Joe singing "Do you have the time to listen to me whine about nothing and everything all at once?", which immediately has you thinking that it's going to be an awesome song. Catchy, awesome fun.

8) She- 8/10 A nice, concert-popular song with an awesome bass riff that starts it off. It picks up where Chump left off, as it tells of how things are cooling down in Billie Joe's relationship with his girlfriend, and by that time, his girlfriend's life is a wreck. A good, easy-listener.

9) Sassafras Roots- 8/10 A simple song to say to least, but many parts of it are more catchy than you think. Another song that shouldn't be skipped while listening.

10) When I Come Around- 10/10 A very powerful song that could almost pass as a ballad. To me this song kills "Polly" and "All Apologies" by Nirvana, which barely even comes close to being good. When I Come Around is definately Green Day's finest moment in songwriting, and could possibly be their best song to date. No flaws found here.

11) Coming Clean- 9/10 Much similar to Burnout, this song is also a more "rebellious" song--it contains the witty lyrics and guitar work by Billie Joe, and a massive effort by the rest of the band. Also a catchy Green Day hit.

12) Emenius Sleepus- 9/10 This song really shows the mastery of bassist Mike Dirnt, as he was the brainchild behind it. This song is easily one of the best you'll here on the album, and like most of the album, is a song mustn't be skipped.

13) In the End- 8.5/10 A song that IS good, but then again, isn't the band's greatest. Like the previous two, it's quite catchy and doesn't provide any filler. A great listen.

14) F.O.D.- 9/10 A great song which also proves that Green Day can be wild hardcore punk-rockers. It starts out with soft vocals and acoustic guitar play, and near the third quarter the electric guitar comes in and Billie Joe starts singing a second chorus which repeats the title of the song, in word form. A nice, clean finish for the album.

So without any further ado, this album is a must-have in everyone's collection, and is one of the biggest landmarks in music history. Its punk-rocking attitude and overall feeling are what give it its recognition as a classic, and the album alone could stand to represent Green Day. There was even a hidden track which started about three minutes after "F.O.D." called "All By Myself," which was sung by drummer Tre Cool. Unfortunatly this track was removed on the CD version of the album, but can still be heard on the original records. To avoid making this review any longer than it already is, I'll just stop here by saying once again that this is one of the greatest albums of all time, and should be contained in everyone's collection.

5 out of 5 stars One Of My All Time Favorite Albums!!!.......2007-04-09

This album is the reason there are so many Pop/Punk bands around today, In my oppinion. Green Day were rocking out long before there was a Blink-182 or Simple Plan. "Dookie" is often considered to be one of the best albums of the early nineties and it's easy to understand why. This album is loaded with catchy, sing-a-long type songs and an unmatched musical energy. If you are a rock fan you've most likely found yourself flipping through the car radio, looking for something and landing on a Green Day song and whether or not you'll admit it, you soon found yourself singing along to it as you drove. This is the band that started it all for Pop/Punk and this is the record they did it with. "Dookie" is an absolute essential for any rock fan's collection.....If you don't have it in yours..GET IT!!!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest ever........2007-03-22

For my generation, this was the white album. Back in 199whatever I was but a teenager in highschool, struggling to find myself and to find acceptance among my peers. Alas, to no avail and I just ostracized myself from everyone. Anyway, that isn't here nor there. This was the genre-defying album that was the new face of punk. It wasn't political like it's predecessors, nor was it purposely inaudible and obnoxious. It was part of a new future for punk-rock as a genre. It was scarey because it defied the punk creed. At the same time it was amazing because it spawned an entire generation of "pop-punk." But none could ever par up to Green Day. Dookie set the standard, and set itself apart from bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. It was still punk and the spirit they showed here remains even in their current latest effort, "American Idiot." Whether you like it or not, Green Day did something extrodinary with this album and it started a phenomenom that will always be remembered. When I think of 90's music, I will always think of Green Day as a result. Thank these guys for changing music history.

3 out of 5 stars Fun Punk brings Green Day to its MTV heyday.......2007-01-14

I was introduced to Green Day back in 1994 right around the time they released 'Dookie.' One of my friends who was into the punk music scene had bought the CD and knew about Green Day before me and friends. He spread it around to our area and encouraged me to purchase 'Dookie' the next time I went to a record store.

So I bought 'Dookie' when the album was on the pop charts, when Green Day first became popular and many people were talking about them. Since punk originated in the mid-70's and gained popularity into the '80s, Green Day's 1990's music was considered a "new breed" of punk music. Not quite punk, not quite pop, not quite rock, but sort of a blend between all three. They weren't easily categorized, partly due to the level of fame they achieved. Nobody knew quite where to put them.

On 'Dookie,' Green Day delivers this quirky blend of musics and lyrics in typically catchy fashion. The CD really starts four tracks in with "Longview," a pessimistic but uptempo rant about the singer's life and problems. The next track, "Welcome to Paradise" shifts tone slightly to one of hedonistic pleasure with sardonic undertones. On the other hand, "Basket Case" is an introspective, fast-tempo rock ballad whose harmonic structure resembles and may have been consciously or unconsciously based on Pachelbel's "Canon in D major". "When I Come Around" is another sort of rock ballad, an outspoken, mid-tempo closer to this memorable CD.

'Dookie' lifted Green Day from their state of regional adoration to international fame at a time when MTV and the media started noticing them. The confident lead singer of the group, Billie Joe Armstrong, was becoming a household name. In terms of the popularity of the album, the raw 'Dookie' blazed a new punk trail through pop territory with a number of hit songs, staking out a place on MTV. With their increased exposure and popularity, the band continued to take on challenges and write additional thought-provoking popular songs. In a little more than a decade since the release of 'Dookie,' Green Day has secured a lasting place in pop music and most certainly will be remembered well into the future.

Check out 'Dookie' for its gritty style, raw subject matter, catchy tunes, and to experience some of what early Green Day hype was about.

Peter Himmelman has a rubbery voice, a vivid imagination, an ear for quirky pop songs that sounds ripe for the picking by some brilliant kids' comedy troupe, and a complete lack of self-consciousness--a combination you don't often find in kids' performers, even the most successful ones. My Green Kite follows the just-for-the-fun-of-it formula of previous discs like My Fabulous Plum and My Best Friend is a Salamander--here's Himmelman contemplating how confounding a word "maybe" can be ("Maybe Is a Bad Word"), examining the under-appreciated qualities of an egg ("Have You Ever Really Looked at an Egg") and, in a half-poignant, half-hilarious number, deeply regretting his embarrassment over his dad's painfully boring occupation ("My Father's an Accountant"). The word for these songs is screwball--there's a certain loose genius lurking below the surface. As the soundtrack to a Sunday-afternoon Lego marathon, they're pretty near perfect. --Tammy La Gorce

Hailing from Tampa, Florida, and wielding as many as three lead guitarists at a time, the Outlaws are perhaps one of the least likely bands to be deemed worthy of a major-label retrospective CD. Though supremely competent, the band is completely indistinguishable in both style and substance from earlier and better known acts of southern rock's golden age: Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Green Grass & High Tides culls 16 tracks from the five studio albums the Outlaws recorded between 1975 and 1980, including their two minor hits, "There Goes Another Love Song" and "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky." Recommended for southern-rock diehards only. --Roni Sarig

    4 out of 5 stars Underrated Southern Rockers -- worth a listen.......2007-05-14

For those of you who aren't old enough to remember, the Outlaws were arguably more popular than Lynyrd Skynrd in the heydey of southern rock (1975 - 1980). Skynyrd's unfortunate demise led to them being canonized, though they certainly had several wonderful songs to justify it.

The Outlaws' first 3 Albums (Self-titled, Lady In Waiting, Hurry Sundown) were amazing LP's and this "Best of" CD captures most of their high notes. Its missing a few great tunes (Holiday from Hurry Sundown immediately comes to mind) but overall is a good survey of their music.

The quality of their music tailed off quickly after Hurry Sundown -- partially due to Henry Paul leaving, but probably due to burnout on several levels. Billy Jones was an amazing guitarist with a unique voice, on par with Neil Young. Its too bad he wasn't with us longer.

These guys were the 'metal band' of the Southern Rock area, so if you enjoy loud guitars and Skynrd-esque music, this CD is for you.

    5 out of 5 stars heaven.......2007-02-28

This CD brings back such great memories,..I am almost in a different world when I hear "Green Grass & High Tides". This is some great stuff,..if you are into this kind of southern rock,..you'll love this. I have almost every Outlaws LP record,..but I can't play records in my car,.so I had to get this CD. Not disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Short on quantity, despite quality that is present........2007-02-14

This CD is loaded with lots of Outlaw favorites. I happen to be one who has always found "Waterhole" and "Knoxville Girl" relatively unappreciated on the grand scale of Outlaw songs, and their presnce on this CD is a must. The same can be said about Outlaw anthems "Green Grass and High Tides; There Goes Another Love Song" and "Freeborn Man." But this collection has gone further in years to dig up other favorites. I was delighted to see "Take It Any Way You Want It; You Are The Show" and "Ghost Riders in the Sky" represented. But perhaps a more up to date collection is in order. Granted, the band see-sawed line-up wise in it's latter years, as did the subsequent music they produced. But "Hurry Sundown" alone is worthy of more representation on this CD. The late 70s saw the remaining bands of both southern rock and the California sound (Eagles/ Poco, etc.) hit their zenith in production and music produced. It's no coincidence to some degree, as "Hurry Sundown's" producer did the same for the Eagle's "Hotel California" resulting in more refined, streamlined music that had crossover appeal. And "Hurry Sundown's" "Holiday; So Afraid" and "Heavenly Blue" each are worthy of being present on a conmprehensive Outlaws collection, as are cuts from future CDs like "Los Hombres Malo" and "In The Eye of the Storm," though they may be fewer in number. But, this is a best of CD. And to accomplish what I feel is necessary, an anthology is in order. The Outlaws may not have ranked up there with the Allmans, the Skynards or the Tuckers in mass appeal. But they did have quite a run for what many consider a not as consequential southern rock band. And their life span is certainly worthy of an anthology to be a more truly comprehensive look at a band that left its mark.

5 out of 5 stars Southern Rock you wouldn't understand, Dr. Bombay !!.......2006-12-27

No New American from India should ever be allowed to review Southern Rock or any Rock CD...I saw the Outlaws and ZZ Top in Roanoke,VA in 1977 and they brought the house down with every song and actually commanded the same applause as that lil' ole band from Texas did later that night !! and outside of a few songs in five albums wrote all of their own material...The Outlaws were truly electric in more ways than one and the new digitally remastered songs sound better than ever !! only real radio stations play the deep cuts and " Ghost Riders in the Sky " fits the bill for high fidelity sound !! Yep , it's a Southern Rock thing , Dr. Bombay ,you wouldn't understand !!!

    4 out of 5 stars Good memories.......2006-12-06

I saw the Outlaws live twice in the early eighties and had a great time at both shows. This album is just plain fun to listen to and brings back some very fond memories.

5 out of 5 stars good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

    3 out of 5 stars TV themes.......2006-07-05

Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

    5 out of 5 stars Deja Vu.......2006-02-17

Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

      Amazon.com's Best of 2001

Weezer, those geek rockers who topped mid-'90s charts with those oh-so-precious pop fables "Undone (The Sweater Song)" and "Buddy Holly," were almost undone by 1997's bombastic Pinkerton. Their sophomore release turned its back on the band's clean-cut debut, with a thrash approach more influenced by Sabbath and Kiss than the Beach Boys. On their third album (self-titled, like their first, but referred to as the "Green Album"), the band makes a concentrated effort to return to anthemic '60s punky pop, demonstrating that, for Weezer at least, it's rather easy being green. In fact, one could say they're almost as green as Green Day, especially on "Knockdown Dragout." At their best, Weezer show such boundless energy and gleeful aplomb that you'd swear you were listening to a lost Badfinger album. Conversely, Rivers Cuomo's twisted genius makes its way onto the anxious and paranoid "Hash Pipe" and the jittery "Glorious Days," making the "Green Album" the most absorbing and rounded vision from these pop masters yet. --Jaan Uhelszki

5 out of 5 stars Beware of CD errors.......2007-06-27

Hash Pipe is occasionally mis-burned on copies of the Green Album so when you get your copy, make sure Hash Pipe is greater than 3 minutes long. Otherwise...talk about a brilliant album.

4 out of 5 stars Joyous Little Record. .......2007-06-19

I've had this CD for several years and am only now taking the time to mention it but the Green Album is an even and invigorating release. It's short but it raises your blood pressure a little bit with every listen. I find it arousing and elevating which are emotions that all of us can use in the course of the day. I'd have to rate it slightly ahead of Maladroit on the Weezer scale--a good buy.

4 out of 5 stars Nice, but the synapses are already there.......2006-08-12

Weezer know what you like because you have heard it before. I guess in a way I would give this 3 1/2 stars. It really is just a continuation of their debut. They could package the two discs together and you really wouldn't be able to tell they were done 7 years apart.

You get it with the first listening, instantly enjoyable. But that often means it will get old fast and this one does. They take the best of power pop and they do it well. I can't recommend the disc as a whole but there are some songs worth downloading.

      5 out of 5 stars 100% Fun.......2006-08-09

There has been much debate among critics and fans alike as to which Weezer album is the best. Although not often cited as Weezer's best, the Green Album arguably offers the goods more than any of their other albums in the category of basic rock n' roll fun. This by and large is because the melodies on the record are of the highest order. The melodies here not only are more consistent than those heard on the other Weezer albums, but superior to just about any album released in the last decade. While some might dismiss the album as nothing original, very few artists carry out the pop/punk style as good as Weezer. Catchy pop/punk songs such as the ones demonstrated here will never go out of fashion. In fact, the album often reminds one of a distorted Beatles.

The lyrics generally are more straightforward and love song oriented than on other Weezer albums, but they're not devoid of the occasional clever line, such as "you'll play it so monastic that you blow it" in Photograph. All of the songs on the Green Album are abundant in their pop hooks, and usually fall under the three minute mark. By the standards of the last decade, ten songs and twenty-eight minutes represent an extremely short running time, but there is not a single wasted note to be heard anywhere on the disc. This is refreshing in the era of digital recording, an era known to utilize click tracks and longer running times. These practices have not often resulted in punchy and attention grabbing music, even if plenty of fine material has been released. The decision to cut back on certain prevailing excesses of the time, (in addition to the catchy melodies), has actually caused the Green Album to stand out favorably in its era. When all is said and done, each of the five Weezer albums have moments and songs worthy of praise, but arguably no Weezer record is as much fun as the Green Album.

      1 out of 5 stars Uhmm..........2006-07-25

What a waste of time and money. 10 songs and hardly 20-30 minutes... of pure mediocrity.

Weezer is an amazing band...just don't bother on this one folks. Pinkerton and the Blue album are just classics. I Respect those guys a whole lot.

This is just...disappointing to say the least. It's just BAD, even for a Weezer fan. Lately Weezer has been trying to do with their nerd-rock label and are going for an almost loveable, adorable sort cutesy label.

I can't make myself clear enough. Don't go near this album, it's just the bottom of the corporate barrel.
