Great soundtrack to one of the best & most important video games in video game history, but could of been much better!!!.......2007-03-28
this soundtrack is with out a doubt one of the best musical scores i own hands down. theres just that it about it. very relaxing, very happy, very dramatic, & very whoa...thats creepy & just gave me goose bumps. all 82 are classics in my opinion. with that said there are some annoyances & drawbacks. one is that alot of these tracks are just to short plain & simple. a coulple more loops per tracks would do these tracks more justice(I.E. ice cavern & fire temple with an average of 40-45 sec.?????). speaking of the fire temple, there was supposedly some sort of anger some muslims had reguarding the messages(fire temple chanting), there was a protest by them, & nintendo(in the muslims favor)respectivly removed the chanting(as found in the 1.0 & 1.1 versions of the n64 game)& instead replaced it with a new reworked version(as heard in the 1.2 n64 version & all gamecube versions). i like both versions but i like the reworked version a little better(it just has that creepy goose bump feeling about it). it reminds me alot of the shadow temple with those weird deep voices(organ like). i just basically call the new version shadow temple part 2. now with that said...the fire temple theme on this cd is only 42 sec. long. they could of indeed used the new reworked 1.2 version with the organ like voices to make it better & more complete. no istead they just strip most of it & all you end up with is just the fire temple intro. pretty dumb on nintendo's part to do this. bottom line...this should of been a 2 cd set to really let the tracks have their time to shine, & the reworked fire temple theme should of made it to this set(with about a 2 min average)instead of this short track thats on this set. i still recommend this great piece of history along with the the majora's mask 2-cd soundtrack, majora's mask orchestrations, the ocarina of time hyrule symphony, ocarina of time re-arranged, the wind waker 2-cd soundtrack, zelda the music soundtrack, & the zelda sound collection soundtrack. there are other zelda soundtracks floating around that have'nt made it to their official pressings yet(the minish cap, the legend of zelda, the adventure of link, a link to the past, link's awakening, oracle of ages, oracle of seasons, a link to the past: four swords, four swords adventures, phantom hourglass, & twilight princess). all this great music just sitting there in the nintendo vaults just rotting away. when it could in fact be made into the ultimate zelda anthology cd set. 21 cd's worth of essential zelda greatness. i wish nintendo would stop letting their music go to waste & just do something with it like turn them into big box sets. anyway i recommed this OOT soundtrack to all.
Great music, bad price.......2007-03-22
When people think of Legend of Zelda, they don't just see Link with his Master Sword and shield; they hear his music, too! As a Zelda fan, this CD is a very good reflection of the sense of pride I can feel when I play the game. =D
However, you shouldn't pay $50 for it. If you go to a Japanese import site, like CDJapan, you can find it new for only $20! Amazon just can't compare. Just search for "zelda" and you should find it. ^_^
BUY THIS CD!!!!!!.......2007-01-12
JUST BUY IT!!!!!!! and get a master sword too. there both found here on amazon!
Phenomenal.......2006-09-29
I've always been impressed with Koji Kondo's compositions for the Zelda and Mario series, and this is no exception -- most styles of music are represented here, and all of them have fantastic melodies. The instrumentals (all simulated, of course) are just right. Purchase this immediately if you're a fan of the video game, or just good music.
Best stuff ever--period........2006-08-31
Okay, I don't usually listen to orchestras and stuff. I listen to Heavy Metal, like Trivium and Slipknot. This CD is a LONG way from that. I love it. I played the game 1 year ago. I still remember, picture perfect, what I was doing when that song played. Shooting arrows at the sun, fighting Ganondorf, fighting Ganon, everything. This CD is just awesome. If you have played Zelda: OOT, you better buy this CD. It kicks butt.

Legend of a Mott.......2004-07-16
`Legend of a Mind' is a collection of songs from bands between the years of 1968 and 1974 from the off-shoot record label of Decca Records, neatly called Deram. Deram Records was actually set up in 1966 by the suits at Decca, who had already made the cringe-worthy mistake of turning down the Beatles. They realized then that the young folk of the day did not only want to buy Englebert Humperdink records, but needed something with a bit of street cred that they just plain did not understand.
This was a lucky break for them. In the summer of 1967 the Beatles turned the rock world on its head with the release of `Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band', allowing all serious minded musicians to break out of the 4/4 structures of 3-minute songs. There were literally hundreds of bands out there wanting to sign up to a record company to get their sound out to an eager public; some with 2½ -minute songs of cleverness, others with 20-minute epics. Deram was keen to sign them all - the good and the bad - (How would they have known the difference?) and here, spread over three 77-minute discs, is a selection of arguably the best.
Some bands on this collection went on to be household names like Thin Lizzy, The Moody Blues, and Camel; some miraculously are still going on today in one form or another like Caravan, Savoy Brown, and Ten Years After; and some went on to become bigger and better things namely Giles, Giles & Fripp of course became King Crimson, who went on to be both household names and are still going strong today. After a fine career Trapeze gave us Mel Galley for Whitesnake; Dave Holland for Judas Priest; and Glen Hughes for Deep Purple, insuring gainful employment for the trio years after they bit the dust. Other bands like Black Cat Bones, Leafhound, and Egg gained legendary status years after they had disbanded.
Some bands were plainly a little too ordinary or too way out to make it. East Of Eden had a massive hit single with `Jig-a-Jig', which is included here, but their other material never quite lived up to their early hit, although after the band's demise violinist Dave Arbus turned up on the Who's Baba' O'Reiley playing the fiddle solo that brings the song to a rousing conclusion.
Others, alas, only lasted one album, but that is where you come across some unexpected delights. If you like heavy metal guitar riffing to bang your head to, then look no further than the eight minutes of T2's 'No More White Horses'.
How Aardvark missed the boat to rock superstardom will always be a mystery. I mean they even had the perfect name. When you walked down your local record store racks Aardvark's album must of been the first album you came across, they would of even been in front of Abba. The marvelously monickered `Once Upon A Hill/Put That In Your Pipe And Smoke It' is Aardvark's tour de force over ten minutes of keyboard mayhem that only Keith Emerson or Jon Lord could of equalled.
The reason that Clark-Hutchinson did not last long is evident in their sole contribution song title here.
It's quite fun just to read the names of the bands with the title of the song(s) they play and then to imagine the sound and see if you were correct.
The set comes in a psychedelic cardboard box with each C.D. in a full color replica of one of the albums from Deram. The 48-page booklet includes essays from the people at Deram, plus a full page devoted to each band and some very embarrassing photos from the era (stand up 'Mellow Candle'). At fourteen pounds and fifty pence, the price of a normal single CD, this box set is a real bargain. Whatever your taste you just have to like something.

Really cool survey of Decca Progessive bands of the 1970's.......2003-11-09
Overall, this is a very valid and useful collection of the some of the best progressive sounds Decca released during the early 1970's. Like UK EMI's "Harvest Festival", also essential, if you like this kind of music, then this is for you. However, a couple of interesting points: first, The Moody Blues' "Legend Of the Mind" is about as progessive as The Partridge Family was! A totally bad choice for the first track. Similarly, really interesting early progressive bands like ASHKAN and SAM APPLE PIE are completely missing from this collection. And, truthfully, some of the tracks selected are really quite medicore examples of this era...but, I guess that speaks to the whole progressive era....lots of good stuff, and some real pretentious clinkers.
All in all, a great set and the sound is first-rate.
.."Of course it was all different in MY day..".......2003-06-21
It seems about the right time for a re-appraisal of progressive rock.By "progressive"I mean the wild, unfettered music that appeared after "Sgt Pepper"not the narrow stream of latter day "prog" (ELP,Yes etc)
The years between 1967-75 produced some of the most audacious music ever made.Much of it appeared on the Deram/Nova label from the UK (alongside other "head" labels like Vertigo,Island,Dawn and Neon)and much of it is captured on this mind blowing box set.
Many of the names featured here would be familiar to the average rock fan of a certain age.The Moody Blues,Ten Years After,Thin Lizzy and Trapezes Glenn Hughes all rightly stake their claim in rock history and are well represented here.(Ten Years Afters album lenghth "Love Like a Man" is a highlight.
It is however the doomed obscurities herein the provide the revelations.
How about Bill Fays "Screams in the Ears",a piece of ornate orchestrated pop that would resonate strongly with fans of Nick Drake and Colin Blunstone?
..or Bulldog Breeds "Austin Osmanspare" a creepy bit of just too late psychadelia?
or T2s "No More White Horses",which mixes a pastoral vocal with tripped out gutar and slamming brass?
It goes on an on,obscure but ridiculously high quality music made with nothing other in mind than expression and creation.
One can scratch the ol' noggin and wonder what happened to acts like Zakkarias (Out-Tim Buckleys Tim Buckley)Clark Hutchinson (I too "wanna be stoned for the rest of my natural life"!)Khan (Steve Hillage..)and Egg who display the most ridiculously synchopated over the top playing on the set.
Also featured are a host of middle level Brit underground names like the truly wonderful Caravan (who couldn't love "Hello,Hello"?)the almost funky Keef Hartley and the ornate sound of Camel.
I'm lucky to own lots of this stuff in it's original form, but much of it is new to me and I'm glad to have it all in one place.
I'm not a nostalgist by any means (Ed Harcourt,Be Good Tanyas,Radiohead are current favourites)but nor do I think the magnificent hairy bands of the past need to wallow in obscurity.
Great Compilation of Decca/Deram Underground Scene 1967-75.......2003-05-05
I picked this up after reading about it in "Ice" magazine. This is a 3 cd import set which spotlights the underground scene at Decca records from 1967-75. The cuts are remastered and the sound is excellent. Many of the tracks are new to cd for the first time and the set includes 1 impressive previously unissued cut from Pete Brown which features Jeff Beck and Jack Bruce. The set also includes an impressive 48 page booklet with pictures of the bands, albums, and concert posters as well as a brief history of each band featured on the set.
The music ranges from jazzier work by the Johnny Almond Music Machine and Egg to blues rock from Ten Years After, Savoy Brown and Black Cat Bones. The Moody Blues are featured with two cuts from their psychedelic period including "Legend Of A Mind" which gave the set its name. Heavy material from the likes of Leafhound, T2, Clark-Hutchinson and early Thin Lizzy is also featured. "Freelance Friend" makes a case for Leafhound being one of the great lost heavy bands of the period. While the Thin Lizzy cuts "Whisky In A Jar" (covered by Metallica) and especially "The Rise And Dear Demise of the Funky Nomadic Tribes" feature the Hendrix derived playing of original guitarist Eric Bell. "Free To Be Stoned" from Clark-Hutchinson features some great guitar playing and sounds like an outtake from the Edgar Broughton Band. The End a band produced by Rolling Stone Bill Wyman is included with the great psychedelic track "Introspection - Part One". Future King Crimson members are present on the cut "Suite No. One" by Giles, Giles and Fripp. Progressive rock is not short changed as cuts from the underrated Camel, Curved Air with Sonja Kristina, and the Canterbury's Caravan are well chosen. Darryl Way's superior violin playing is featured in cuts by Curved Air and his own band Darryl Way's Wolf. Aardvark who released only one album sounds like they should have been bigger with the bombastic progressive rock track "Once Upon A Hill/Put That In Your Pipe And Smoke It". East of Eden mixes jazz, rock and folk on their two cuts including the non-lp single "Jig-A-Jig" and Granny's Intentions sound a bit like Jethro Tull. "The Witch" by the German band the Rattles is a single that combines their early R&B derived material with a more progressive vision. Guitarist Steve Hillage of Gong fame is featured on a psychedelic cut from his rare Khan album.
The great part about the set is that the tracks by the bands that are more obscure are for the most part just as good as the tracks from more well-known bands. It is also interesting that many of the bands featured here attempt to mix different genres of music. This set illustrates why this time period was arguably the most adventerous in the history of rock music. I highly recommend this set and if you become more interested in some of the bands featured here so much the better! I now wish they would compile an underground compilation box set for the Vertigo and Harvest labels.

Customer Reviews:
Seventies soul singer with unique voice.......2005-03-07
Linda Lewis, a singer with a high soprano voice, had her greatest commercial successes during the late seventies (although she still makes new albums occasionally) and it is from that period, during which she spent a lot of time in America, that this collection is compiled. Fans looking for Rock-a-doodle doo can find it on the Reprise collection covering her music of the early seventies.
Linda is best remembered in Britain for her stunning cover of It's in his kiss, which was her only top ten hit there. She also did an amazing cover of Winter wonderland (it's my favorite version of this song) Other covers include Save the last dance for me (Drifters), Remember the days of the old school yard (Cat Stevens), Come back and finish what you started (Gladys Knight) and This time I'll be sweeter. Linda's distinctive voice ensures that her versions are always worth a listen.
Linda sometimes wrote her own songs, several of which are featured on this collection. Despite their quality, none of them are famous. If you enjoy seventies pop/R+B music, you will enjoy the music of Linda Lewis.
