Life Is But A Dream..........2006-08-30
This CD is just pure magic. I know that is such a cliche' thing to say, but it really is. Of course, it really won't appeal to those people who are into EXTREME LIVING...whatever the hell that means, because to me, extreme living is living close to the soul, close to the spirit, close to the Invisible Source that makes and creates all things in and out of Itself.
Debussy was a composer who lived very close to this Invisible Stream. His music reflects a gentleness and yet a strength that flows throughout each composistion. The arrangements are dreamy and mystical and allows one to go into their "inner chamber" and pray in secret to the One who knows their heart as well as their soul.
As much as I love this CD, I tend not to listen to it in the car. I once listened to it while making a routine drive to Santa Monica. The CD stopped and I had somehow missed all of my exits and ended up in Ventura...talk about being in dreamland!
It's a great CD to put in your walkman and go to an outdoor cafe' where you can sip a cafe latte and write poems to an unknown lover whose face you cannot remember, but whose gentle breath is the scent of lavendar...oh, I wax poetic...so sorry...
If you are into quiet and stillness, get this CD...it's truly a breath of fresh air in this noisy, crowded, extreme world we have to be in but not necessarily of...
Peace & Blessings
Beautiful, dreamy.......2006-07-17
This music evokes both emotions and images of life waking up in spring, even being in a magical forest where anything can happen, or floating on clouds. You can just enjoy the music and let your imagination soar or the music can take you into that trance-like state where you can access creative ideas and creative solutions to any problems - and maybe they just dissolve of their own accord.
Fabulous collection !.......2005-09-13
If you like Debussy - whom I have heard called one of the progenitors of ambient music - you will love having his most inspiring and beautiful works together on one cd. These works are tranquil and serene, and yet they don't fade into the background - no matter what you are doing - because they are true art. When this cd is playing you can't help but listen and sigh. My cats love this cd, too.
An excellent introduction to Debussy and French music.......2005-06-30
Compilation CD's like this are an excellent first CD to purchase when first exploring a new composer or style of music ("Expressionism" in Debussy's case). And this Philip's "Set your Life to Music" collection is usually a sure and safe way to do that given their well thought-out selections, themes and quality recordings. This CD here contains many of the most popular, lyrical and enchanting works of the 19th-century French composer, Claude Debussy. The range of selections are diverse and satisfying: from his major solo piano works through his top chamber music (for 2-5 instruments) to the full-blown orchestral selections of great imagery and dreaminess that can transport one into another world of great serenity. (But, there are enough sudden changes in loudness and rhythm to upset any notions of perfect bliss and keep the daydreamer from falling asleep - hence the title, "for Daydreams" and not "for Bedtime" like in other offerings in this Philips' series) Regardless, this CD is an excellent introduction to Claude Debussy as well as being overall relaxing music to enrich one's life.
One interesting music history tidbit on Debussy that might interest the new listener: Even though Debussy did not like the label, his music was labeled "Expressionism" for the similarities to what the French artists like Monet were doing at the same time. In Debussy's case, his intent was to create "emotional impressions" with music that evoked specific moods and images in the mind - not unlike what the "impressionistic painters" were trying to do on canvas using pure color and form to evoke the fleeting, emotional moment of a landscape scene. "Prelude of the Afternoon of the Fawn" is a good example of this dreamy, lingering, emotive style of music.
Dream and Classical music are magic.......2005-02-16
This CD is one of the best among its classical collections. (bach for breakfast is my one of them) It puts me to any place I dream of whenever I listen to this cd. It usually brings me into outer space, or sometimes go to the sky or under the sea. You can also just sit back and relax while listening to the music. In addition, once I get mad or not calm enough, I just put this cd on and it cures my anger.
Classical music is magic.

Wonderful and helpful!.......2006-04-09
The Quiet Thoughts CD, 1 of 4 audio CD's in the Mental Medicine Collection, gently guides me to focus and slow down my thinking. Her calming voice explains how to quiet my mind and how to be present with my environment. My entire body is relaxed as this occurs. It is truly a soothing and calming experience. I highly recommend it for anyone.
Quiet Thoughts: The Mental Medicine Collection.......2006-02-21
I've ordered all four of the audio CD's in the series - Sacred Moment, Sleep Ease, Non-Thinking and Quiet Thoughts. Described as " ... to heal and slow down a busy mind'. My reviews of each are similar in their praise and satisfaction. They are 4 terrific guided meditations. I've personally found it difficult to meditate without some assistance and rarely have time to go to a meditation center, many of which have limited sessions. What I was searching for was a guided meditation that could guide my positioning and mental focus and then provide soothing music to sit with. There are two components to each CD, talking with background music and then a period of just music. I've tried other similar CD's but didn't use them for long because, for some reason, I just couldn't get relaxed by the audio portion. That was not the case with these CD's. Pakvilai's gentle soothing voice is so beautiful and relaxing, I never tire of listening to it. The timing (about 30 minutes) on each CD is perfect for the morning before work and before going to bed at night. These CD's will work well for both beginners and experienced meditators. The music background on each CD is different and truly relaxing.
Quiet Thoughts focuses on learning how to slow down your thinking. It starts with basic guidance and flows into how to be present with what you are doing and your surroundings and how to quiet your mind and keep it at ease. She guides you on how to relax your entire body. As she speaks, she pauses just long enough for you to digest what's she's said and then moves on.
Non-Thinking focuses on learning the freedom of non-thinking. Pakvilai varies her introduction and guidance enough so that each CD is different and refreshing. In this CD she focuses on your mind and how to follow your thoughts at they arrive and leave, then how to focus on non-thinking - by focusing on breathing, your body feelings and the present moment. She guides you on how to detach from your thoughts during meditation, just by letting your thoughts gently flow in and out of your mind as you observe them arriving and leaving.
Sacred Moment focuses on finding present moment awareness. It starts with basic guidance and flows into a wonderful description on how to bring your focus to the present moment and keep it there when thoughts arise. She guides you to think about each moment as being sacred and how to feel still, calm and free.
Sleep Ease is all about getting you so relaxed you fall asleep. The introduction is different in that you are instructed to lay on your back. This CD focuses t getting you to relax your entire body. Pakvilai gets you to the point of feeling like you are as light as a feather and floating on a cloud. She slowly guides you to focus on your entire body, part-by-part, from head to toe. I've found this particular CD invaluable on those days when I'm under a lot of stress and can't easily fall asleep or sometimes when waking up in the middle of the night with a monkey mind, I listen to it to put me back to sleep.

The Best of Erick Satie.......2007-06-11
The reason I bought this product, is because I was familiar with the 3 Gymnopedies of Erick Satie and also another of his work: The Gnosiemme (I'm not sure about the spelling) No. 4. After listening to the CD I felt very happy with it because include both versions of the Gymnopedies, the Orchestral and the one for piano and of course the Gnosiemme No. 4 which I now like it very much. The pianist makes justice to Satie's work and if you like his work is a good buy.
A forerunner to minimalism.......2007-04-13
Satie is a forerunner to minimalism. Each piece of his music is a beauty. He also had great influence on many famous composers and musicians in his age. This album is one of the best piano classical.
Wonderful.......2006-07-07
Just a great collection from Erik Satie. I would highly recommend this one!
Richard review of Best of Satie.......2005-09-02
The recording is well done. Eric Satie is not the type of music that many people will appreciate. I like his music and this particular recording.
Got Satie?.......2005-07-27
... Well folks. This may be the perfect album to get started. This features some of the best-known works by the wierd and witty Erik Satie, including the Gymnopedies (both the original piano and the orchestrated versions), the Gnossiennes, just to name a few.
The performance done by pianist Klara Kormendi is relatively plain and simple, just as Satie might have wanted. Some of his music is actually not too difficult to play... A great CD at a budget price. Kudos to Naxos for a good performance at a good price.
Also, what I'm equally impressed is the fact that in this "appreciation" album, the listener will actually be listening to many "sets" of pieces. Some of those albums (Beethoven and Mozart for example) are mere collections of selected tracks, many just one movement of a large work, such as a symphony. In some you will only be listening to selected numbers of different large "sets" of pieces. In Chopin's for example one may listen only few of the 20+ nocturnes (No. 2 for example), 15+ waltzes, and 20+ mazurkas he wrote, so one would not feel complete listening to the whole "cycles" of short pieces. Satie, fortunatley, prefered using tiny sets of pieces, most of them only comprising of three movments each. Plus each piece is short. ALL of the three Gymnopedies. ALL of the six Gnossiennes. ALL of the three Sarabandes. ALL of the three nocturnes. One can already feel happy listening to couple "sets" within a single CD.
Once again, this may be the perfect album to get started with Erik Satie. And get ALL out of those pieces!!!

Aldo Ciccolini's late-1960s survey devoted to Erik Satie's piano music helped spawn new interest in the idiosyncratic French composer. The pianist rerecorded the cycle digitally, and it is from these remakes that the present reissue stems. While the performances are refreshingly pert, stylish, and perceptive, the rather glassy, treble-heavy engineering can't hold a candle to EMI's warmer analog sound for the earlier recordings. Be that as it may, this disc covers a spectrum of Satie's creative moods (to say nothing of his bizarre titles), from the pensive Gymnopédies, Gnossiennes, and Nocturnes to the upbeat irony inherent in the character pieces. Gabriel Tacchino joins Ciccolini for a balletic romp through La belle excentrique. Happily, this duo will have none of the fussy rubato with which a handful of world-class pianists distort Trois Morceaux en forme de poire. If warm, rounded piano sound is not an issue, then this disc will do just fine as your basic Satie starter kit. --Jed Distler
Customer Reviews:
Great Performance, disappointing listening experience.......2007-05-06
The performance of all of the pieces on this disk are exceptional, and the recording of the piano itself is well done. Unfortunately, both are almost irreparably marred by a loud recording hiss throughout the performances. The fact that this hiss fades to zero between sets only serves to highlight the hiss and make it distracting again. I am stunned that this disk advertises itself as a DDD recording, the engineers and producers should be ashamed. If you know how to process hiss out of a recording, go for it. Otherwise, be warned, you may be disappointed.
Great Performance, not so great quality recording.......2006-01-19
I think that the interpretation of Satie's work here is really good, but my complain is that the recording has a lot of noise in it, is not just the noise of a life performance (which I don't mind), but there is a clear white noise in the background that spoils the overall effect. Still, as I said the interpretation is just great, but the noise issue forces me to give a 3 start rating.
Splendid Introduction to Satie's Piano Music.......2004-05-29
I must confess my ignorance with respect to Satie and his music, so this fine CD was a revelation. Satie clearly falls in the same group of "Impressionist" composers such as Debussy, but still remains an enigmatic figure, in part because of the satirical content of his music, as well as his personality. In Aldo Ciccolini, Satie had one of his foremost champions. This CD is replete with graceful, lyrical playing of Satie's works. I am truly surprised that Satie was neglected until the 1960's, when Ciccolini began championing his music. The sound quality isn't nearly as warm as earlier EMI analogue recordings, but this isn't a major disappointment in what is otherwise a splendid introduction to Satie's music.

Customer Reviews:
A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10
Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.
The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).
This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.
I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.
a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15
I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.
Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

They may seem like the latest in an endless line of overnight sensations, but San Francisco foursome Stroke 9 have been playing together for over 10 years. They formed the group as a high-school senior project, and jammin' 'n' groovin' since their teens has given Stroke 9 the kind of musical chemistry many outfits only dream of. Theirs is a story similar to that of teen-sensation-turned-multiplatinum rock band Live, and appropriately, Stroke 9 worked with Live producer (and ex-Talking Heads keyboardist) Jerry Harrison on their debut album, Nasty Little Thoughts. An upbeat collection of strummy rockers and jangly ballads, the album combines the earnestness of a band like R.E.M. with the hook-laden songcraft of acts like the Connells and the Counting Crows. Luke Esterkyn's vocals are consistently emotional without sacrificing melody, and guitarist John McDermott coaxes a rainbow of textures and tones from his instrument without straying from the simple core rhythms of the songs. But most importantly, Stroke 9's energetic pop is utterly infectious, making songs like "City Life" and "Little Black Backpack" echo through your head long after you click off the CD player. --Jon Wiederhorn
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Album.......2007-01-04
If you like alternative rock, this album is for you. The lyrics and the music just flow wonderfully in the album, and though I do not believe it to be their best album to date, it is way up there on the list. There is quite a mix of styles, meaning not every song sounds exactly the same like most of the bands out there today. Not to discount those bands, I enjoy some of their music, but this album really has a richness to it that is lacking in much of today's music.
I am quite suprsied to find out how many people are listing these guys as one hit wonders or claiming they have disappeared. They are quite alive and have actually released two albums after this one, one of which is much better I believe, and are on the way to releasing a third. They also have many albums that proceed this one, so check them out as well.
One Hit Wonder.......2006-10-27
Well, for one hit wonders, this was a gem of a band. 'Little Black Back Pack' itself is worth five stars, but the other songs are great as well. A great buy if you are a Third Eye Blind fan.
FULL EFFORT! GREAT BAND!.......2005-08-06
i usually am more into old classic rock and roll but i picked this up used at a yard sale and didn't even have time to listen to it for like a year. i finally put it in and i realized how great they are!
this CD has great lyrics and everything you want out of a pop/hard rock band!
the only bad song was the last one.
buy this cd and you will not regret it!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!.......2004-12-30
I just bought this CD in Dec. of 2004, almost six years after it came out. I always liked the songs that were on the radio but I never picked this little beauty up until now. I must say, I wasted 5 years of my life by not hearing this CD everyday. Every song on here is sweet. From little black back backpack to tail of the sun this is a disc that you can blast in the car through the whole trip and not have to skip a song. PICK IT UP!
I don't think you dabbed them, oh no, one-hit wonders????.......2004-10-27
They disappeard off the face of the earth after this raucous CD and you just wiped your ass to say what???? Wanna get away from mainstream hype, then this CD is the way to do it. After repeated listens, you beg, more???? Little Black Backpack. Sounds funny? A top 10 hit on Billboard's modern rock chart. A no-brainer for a follow-up, then bam }:-( Worth checkin out.

With his unparalleled dulcet voice, Texas honky-tonker Lefty Frizzell represents the crucial link between traditional country and modern interpreters such as George Jones and Merle Haggard. Frizzell grew up listening to Jimmie Rodgers and borrowed heavily from Rodgers's country-blues approach, infusing his vocals with sweet slurs and melodious slides. Wisely, this 2 CD set focuses on his early creative peak: 22 of the 34 cuts are from 1950 to 1953, adding only highlights of his erratic 1955-1965 work. Frizzell dominated the charts with hits including "If You've Got the Money I've Got the Time" and "Always Late." The two Rodgers covers are superb, as is the previously unreleased ballad "You Can Go On Your Own Way Now." One drawback: The notes make absolutely no mention of the fine musicians that contributed to his organic sound. --Marc Greilsamer

Worth it!.......2006-10-20
Lefty is one of the great honky tonkers and this set showcases his talents. If you like his music, this is the set to buy. All the major hits and most of his standards are presented in this two CD set. Sound quality is excellent throughout, crisp and clean. It is great fun to put this on, listen and remember those days when this music was not mainstream and did not try to be.
Long Black Viel was taken to the top by others but no one sings it like this. This is a must have set for your collection.
Honky Tonk Supreme.......2006-04-03
There's noone like Lefty. Never was, never will be. Fortunately, here's a 2 CD collection covering the biggest of Lefty's Hits, in their original form. All of his biggest numbers are here, and there's quite a few less-known songs here, as well. All of them are signature Lefty and they're all sure to please. No real complaints, although a better set of liner notes would be appreciated; but for the affordability of this set, I really cannot complain. Well worth your money.
If you like honky tonk you are going to LOVE this CD.......2005-11-03
I was young when Lefty Frizzell was at his best but I had an older brother who was in a country-rock band and he thought Lefty was a great talent for both his song writing and performing. Now that I am old enough to appreciate honky tonk music I understand that my brother was right. This CD surpassed my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone who likes original country music.
Lefty's Legacy.......2005-08-03
Apart from one song about his Ma and Pa,the double C.D.is a fine example of 1950's country music, my favourite being "Run Em'Off"!A must buy!'Rockin'Johnny.
Go Away, Naysayers! This is GOOD!.......2004-10-28
Growing up around Memphis, TN., I had a lot of musical influences and was unsure of how much I liked country music, but Lefty Frizzell was something of an icon. I see this CD and am surprised to see how many commercial hits there are from when I was a lad. I remember clearly "I Want to Be With You Always", "I Love You a Thousand Ways" (at the same time), the classic "If You've Got the Money", "Always Late", my mother's favorite "Mom and Dad Waltz" and "Cigarette and Coffee Blues" (though I prefer its songwriter Marty Robbins' 1963 version better with, I believe, Owen Bradley on piano). Then down the line was "Saginaw, Michigan". Unless you want MORE songs since you like ONLY Lefty Frizzell and no other OR you are an audiophile, I can't see how one could complain about this compilation. It's a good deal and it fully deserves the best rating. Shame on anybody who says otherwise.

His First was His Best.......2007-05-25
Avant is an underrated artist in the game, but i think he rushes his albums and they aren't as good as "My Thoughts". This album had very good songs as well as inspirational like "Why". This album touched a few topics and the songs seemed liked they were well written by Avant and Steve Huff but they lost some steam along the way. The rest of his albums suffered since but this one definitely is worth a listen.
Avant.......2007-03-12
This album is fantastic, i love it, every song you can isten to over and over again if you are a fan of avant.
I LOVE IT.......2005-11-03
I actually bought this cd the week it came out a couple of years ago. But for some reason I felt the need to rate it. Now let me just say that I love love R&B. I love albums that I can put into my cd player and basically walk away from it. This is one of those cds that you can do that with. The lyrics range from diffrent outlooks and everyone can relate to at least 2. I would go on track by track but I cant say enough about it. This cd is a must for every R&B colection......GET THE ALBUM IF YOU DON"T HAVE IT AND IF YOU ALREADY HAVE IT Y NOT PLAY IT. IT'LL MAKE YOU FEEL AS GOOD AS I FEEL WHEN I LISTEN TO IT
Album sounds very R. Kelly-ish.......2005-07-20
This was a good first effort for his debut. But most of the time Avant sounds too much like his Chicago competitor R. Kelly, since this album was recorded in the same city. The same bump and grind themes so common in R's songs are felt within this album. Steve Huff's production wasn't as well known in 2000 before his 2001 assault on three different albums. But it showed Avant's promise as an R&B singer and he has gotten better. Album #2 is really his best.
avant is no r .kelly...... .......2004-11-22
avant is a great artist... one of the only r&b male artist i will listen to nowadays (van hunt, glenn lewis, and donell jones are the others i can listen to without trippin)....i love his first cd... i like 'seperated'. i remember this song hit hard. every1 felt this song because mostpeople went through a situation like that. but i like the remix w/ kelly rowland of destiny's child better... it gives the girl a chance to say something...
'my first love' w/ keke wyatt is one of the best tracks on the album.... this is probably the best love song (practically the only one since every1 is talkin about cheating and drama) to come out in years.... 'serious' is also a great song...
if you like real men singing about real situations and no exaggerations.... buy this album.... its packed with real issues (good issues that you can learn from)
4.6 out of 5 stars

Album Description
Thoughts of a Predicate Felon is the debut album from G-Unit member Tony Yayo. Recorded after a stint in a New York prison for gun possession, the album sticks to the 'club' sound of fellow G-Unit members 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks' solo albums, with tales of street living delivered over a backdrop of grimey beats and minimal hip hop production.
Customer Reviews:
Yayo Should Have Stayed In Jail.......2007-07-05
Tony Yayo is the 2nd reason why I despise the G-Unit movement. 50 Cent may be terrible because of his sloppy rhymes, his humongous ego, and his decision to make a feud with The Game, but hearing about Tony Yayo makes him tied up as the worst G-Unot member.
Yayo was sent to jail for gun charges, and incarcerated again for skipping out of parole. He should have stayed in jail. But no, he is set free and he cuts a song called "So Seductive", a song consisting of pop beats, weak flow, idiotic lyrics, and mindless yelling. Just take a listen to this one song and you'll get an idea on how terrible Yayo is.
Also, the album flopped and was considered one of the worst of 2005. No explanation needed here. Unless you like hip-pop, stay away from this abortion.
Trash garbage wack.......2007-05-28
Tony yayo's "thoughts of a predicate felon" is pure trash & should be recicle for cents.I cant even belive people nowdays listing to garbage like g unit , t.i., mims, bowwow, young jezzy, dipset with juelz santana rhyming about nonsense, lil john and have the nerve to call it hip hop or even rap cause its not that, at all.Why would anybody buy Tony yayo's cd ? Idk? I still wonder.Want real hip hop ? Listing to krs one, kool g rap, rakim, oc, lord finesse, planet asia, organized confussion, gangstarr etc...Leave this clubby bubble gum rap alone its pure wackness.
REAL NICE PRODUCTION.......2007-03-31
This debut release from Mr. Bernard really lived up to my expectations--production wise, that is. While seemingly stronger than "The Massacre", it doesn't seem to surpass his comrades' albums, "Straight Outta Ca$hville" and "The Hunger for More". Now that I think of it, it's all around as good as Buck's and Banks's releases but still ain't no "Get Rich or Die Trying".
While most of his rhymes seem under average and his lyrical skill is kind of crappy and stupid at times, his producers beats is what keeps people listening...(if you enjoy Kokane and Mobb Deep, you know what I mean). His straight New Yorkan beats is what attracts me...and his willingness to tackle stuff even if his rhymes aren't up to par...rather than just (rather than just saying "f**k it").
His album did sell pretty much...because of the buzz and the whole "he got sprung fresh outta jail" thing that's been circulating (including the whole "Free Yayo" campagin). .
Cameos include 50 Cent, Eminem, Joe, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Obie Trice, Olivia, and more...
Top Songs:
1.) Drama Setter feat. Eminem and Obie Trice
2.) So High
3.) Curious feat. Joe
4.) We Don't Give a F**k feat. 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, and Olivia
A G-Unit Breakdown.......2007-03-07
If you're looking for good Aftermath-produced or G-Unit affiliated music, here's which artists to go to and which to stay far, far away from:
50 Cent-- Go nowhere near The Massacre. You're 5% more likely to suffer a slow, painful death just by touching the case. It is the worst CD you could possibly ever hear. Same thing goes with the movie soundtrack.
Get Rich or Die Tryin (the original) on the other hand, is solid... especially on those bonus tracks (Heaven, Life on the Line, U Not Like Me), Patiently Waiting, 21 Questions, and anything featuring another G-Unit member. PIMP, with its lack of Snoop Dogg (which the music video seemed to promise), High All the Time, Many Men, and Wanksta can kind of get old though.
The thing about 50 Cent these days is that by himself he is no longer any good at all. He needs to be held up by a crutch of some better rapper before he can make good with his own rap. The reason he succeeds so well in his collaborations with The Game in The Documentary and Eminem in The Re-Up is because he has actually GOOD rappers holding him up. He's like the Abbott of the comedians Abbott & Costello now. He has nothing worth contributing without his Costello of some kind to be there for him.
The Game-- As soon as I heard this guy's album and compared it to 50's Massacre, I knew that if G-Unit was going anywhere, this guy would be the one to take it there. And now it turns out he left. Can't blame him when the clique-label's leader is so dumb. Was the most progressive rapper of the crew, and his reason for leaving is probably because of how anti-progressive 50's Massacre was. Has the best, deepest subject matter within his songs, if not the best flow (Although his underground 300 Bars song would automatically crown him king if he did that well all the time on his main albums). As far as the mainstream and not underground CDs go though, I'd give him a 2nd best for flow of the G-Unit crew.
His Documentary album has been called the third Chronic, and has the best of Dre's beats you'll find on any G-Unit CD. Criticisms are that he name-drops Dre & NWA a bit too much, but overall, I think it's not that big of a deal. He's a big hip-hop history fan, and he's still a little starstruck over the chance of being able to work with Dre. Given a very brief profile of the rapper, he fits into an uncomfartable stereotype, (average-looking rapper from Compton who's been shot a few times), but he immediately carves a personality of his own in the Doctor's Advocate and his even better The Documentary.
Young Buck-- I'd say probably the best G-Unit member still in G-Unit. This guy has the best flow, as far as mainstream CDs are concerned. He also seems to be the 2nd-most concerned about the world (a.k.a. 'progressive'), with references to the Illuminati amongst other secret organizations. I like this guy the best of the remaining G-Unit. 2nd best comes sort of close to him, but still doesn't match Buck's raw skills.
Lloyd Banks-- This guy is second best. His flow skills somewhat tie for 2nd place with The Game's, or at least land in that area. He, Buck, and The Game are my top three for G-Unit (even though The Game's not G-Unit anymore). Anybody else you can probably pass up. I'll go over them real quick just to make sure you know who the others are beforehand.
Tony Yayo-- The one male member who is worse than 50 Cent. In the G-Unit CD, they always shouted 'Free Yayo!' and now he is free. The G-Unit had done a terrible thing by campaigning for his release. His is of no benefit whatsoever to them. He might even be responsible for the gradual dumbening of 50's style & outlook on life.
Joe-- The kind of R&B star you'd expect to sing chorus or backup on an Outkast track, mixed with a bit of R. Kelley and a very small splash of Stevie W. He's not bad I guess. I hated him completely on 'Wanna Get to Know You' of the G-Unit CD, but would definitely still listen to his 'Ride Wit U' track off his own solo album.
Olivia-- Pssh, are you dumb? No. She's partially responsible for Candy Shop. That should be reason enough to hate her full-on and never turn back. She kind of can't sing either. Bad move to make an R&B CD without being able to sing, I think.
Lil' Scrappy-- This is the same Lil' Scrappy you heard on Lil' Jon's "What U Gon Do?" track. He's pretty good. Decent at least. Definitely not as decent as 50 Cent's original Get Rich or Die Tryin, but decent. He's got a good enough style though that places him above everyone else still in G-Unit, excluding Lloyd Banks and Young Buck, but including 50 Cent by himself.
I think that's everybody. So... now you know all about G-Unit, and who's good and who's not. If you HAVE to buy G-Unit, now you know who to avoid and who to embrace. If you plan on buying the original Get Rich or Die Tryin, I suggest you don't. Burn it, or have a friend burn it for you. 50 doesn't need the money right now or ever again. If you decide not to buy G-Unit, then more power to you. The Game is actually now sort of the anti-G-Unit since he left, because, you know, the majority of their members still suck.
I'd suggest Mos Def's Black on Both Sides instead of any of this stuff though... even if you were planning on buying G-Unit. That's probably the best hip-hop album I've ever heard, or will hear.
3 good songs (and a lot of bad ones).......2007-02-26
I like "So Seductive" "I Know You Don't Love Me" and "Drama Setter" The rest of the album is awful. I have been a G-unit fan since GRODT, but the music they've been putting out since the Massacre has been really lame. It's bad enough when 50 sings on his tracks, but now 50 has Yayo singing too? Yes, Yayo basically sings on several tracks on this album. And you'd have to hear it for yourself to really believe how bad it is. I'm actually kind of mad at 50 because now that he's producing all the g-unit albums and running the g-unit "label" the music has really been disappointing and a real diservice to any fan of g-unit. Slowly but surely people will get tired of paying for crappy music and g-unit albums will be completely ignored. 50 needs to give musical control back to Dre and Em. 50 cannot produce or run a label; he's doing an awful job.
