Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great Tunes.......2006-03-10

Dave Derby is a great tunesmith -- these are catchy songs, especially "California Nervous Breakdown" and "Middle Class Hero." Yes, it's a slightly melancholic world -- or at least nostalgic, as on "Boston" -- but that's a sign of being thoughtful, not morose. Derby's songwriting is more mature than during the Dambuilders era -- a sign of progress. I'm looking forward to his next CD.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Debut.......2004-10-31

Lots of good tunes and melodies; Derby's infusion with Lloyd Cole and the Negatives has had some influence on this disc...

2 out of 5 stars Slow road to nowhere.......2004-09-21

Nothing particularly to recommend here. If you're looking for singer songwriters who not only can sing, but write songs that will remain with you try Freedy Johnston, Todd Thibaud, D. Henry Fenton, Patrick Park, or Bill Fox. This one had me nodding off after song 4. I suppose if you want something non-offensive, this is ok. Personally, I need a little more.

5 out of 5 stars Dave Derby (The King).......2004-01-17

This album is a must have, Dave Derby is a pure drop in an ocean of noise!

4 out of 5 stars melancholy pop.......2003-09-12

Former Dambuilders frontman, Dave Derby, delivers great, sad, slow to mid tempo, pop songs on this album. He really has a nice vocal quality and songs that take you to another place.
